Martha on the Fly is an absolute gem and a must-stop if you’re anywhere near downtown Cleveland.
I ordered the Shirley and my friend had the Doris, and honestly, no notes. The Shirley was perfection, a signature egg patty, melty American cheese, thick-cut house-made all-beef bologna (yes, bologna, trust me), caramelized onions, tomato jam, and their house sunshine sauce. Every bite was rich, savory, and comforting in the best way.
The Doris was just as good, with a fried egg, American cheese, a fresh-ground pork sausage smash patty, and that same sunshine sauce. It’s simple on paper but incredibly well executed.
We also split a Potato Crispy, basically a giant skillet latke or hash brown. It was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender inside, and topped with sunshine sauce and a local hot sauce. Don’t skip it.
The space is tiny, in the best way, just four counter seats and standing room, which adds to the charm. Alicia was running the front and she was fantastic. She was warm, welcoming, and took the time to chat with us about what to do during our visit to Cleveland, which really made the experience feel special.
Amazing food, genuine hospitality, and a small space that delivers big. We can’t wait to come back.
