"Maru Sushi & Grill, located in the Federal Building downtown, closed permanently after seven years. The restaurant was part of an Okemos-based chain with outposts in several cities in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, including Grand Rapids, East Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Midland. The downtown Detroit location opened in 2016 as the chain's sixth location. It featured a 4,400-square-foot interior with seating for 145 and an outdoor patio, offering sushi rolls, hibachi grills, and small plates like fire cracker shrimp and ceviche. A new location is planned for 2025 in Brighton." - Serena Maria Daniels

We decided to take advantage of the nice evening and have “Sushi Night With Grandpa” with the grandson who is in from out of town for his summer visit. He really enjoyed the California roll and I enjoyed the tuna sashimi and nigiri. Was able to get immediate seating. All of the staff were welcoming, friendly, and very helpful. The Lake Lansing road noise wasn’t intrusive. Didn’t have to speak loud to hear over the traffic.

Google
The food and service was SO tasty and beautifully done! My sister and I got some rolls off the menu and then a chef special that was created on-the-spot....FABULOUS!! Our server Yaz was the BEST!! She rocks y'all! See the pics of our food choices 😋🤤😋🤤 We got extra food for Leftovers/ varieties 😊😊💜 Two of our dishes aren't listed...our hot app and a Papa something roll with eel sauce.

The food was delicious and prepared fresh. The chef worked with food allergy options. The staff were helpful and friendly. This place is and was a hidden gem.

Google
Good food but a bit noisy, especially when busy. If you like good Sushi and Asian food combined with noise, that's your place.

Tonight was my first time here in a very long time. (I moved out of state and only recently got back.) Happy to be back in Michigan so I can patronize this amazing business again! The food was outstanding. The tea was exquisite. The interior design, tableware and service was better than I remember. A divine experience for sure. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars across the board is because of the number of birthday parties in the house during my visit. Not the restaurants fault of course but I was hoping for a more low key visit. Next time maybe. I’ll definitely be back regardless. The food and excellent service fed my soul. 💯

Google
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food. I've been to maru in grand rapids, and I can say both locations are amazing. Great service, even better food. Nice quiet place for meeting up.

Google
We spent $70 on sushi and got barely enough to feed one person. We love eating here in person, but to cut the orders in half for take out and still charge the same price is absolutely insane. In the restaurant we would get double the amount of sushi.

Google
Visited from out of state & heard it was great sushi however, the food was good not great & definitely not worth the trip due to lack of service. We pretty much got our food an hour after we ordered & our waitress did not check on us once. Atmosphere is boring nothing special. Spend your money elsewhere that has more ambiance & is fully staffed. Very disappointed.

Yelp
I recommend the tiger. I'm not LION. Apple Siri tries to hide information try answer ask a question two or three times that is directed towards Siri like who programs you Siri who writes your metrics and responses to see if you get a name or a company.my displays last only about 10 or 15 seconds

Yelp
Love the ambiance and rolls! Great place for a date or just hanging with friends. Salad comes with a fantastic ginger dressing. Best salad in the area as far as sushi restaurants go - by far. Look forward to it every time.

Neil A.

Yelp
Great food! I'm a repeat customer for years. Love taking family members here. Got my nephews to try new things.

Krista G.

Yelp
I went to eat by myself as I was staying overnight for work. I walked in and was greeted by the host. I was able to be seated immediately at the bar. The restaurant had a very nice ambiance and I don't think it would have mattered where I sat as the wait staff seemed to be very attentive to everyone. I ordered miso soup which came out fairly quickly. I then ordered a sushi roll. Both were wonderful! I would definitely return as it was great food and service!

Nolan J.

Yelp
Great vibe and great service! Andrew was our waiter and he was very attentive. Great food and well thought out menu. A bit pricier that I expected that's why not 5 stars, but all worth it. Definitely try if you're thinking about it.

Yelp
Walked in about 5:30 on a Thursday and the hostess asked if I had reservations. I looked around and the majority of the tables were empty. I replied "no", she seated us immediately. I was wondering why, but after about an hour, the place was packed. Looking at the staff, I was a bit concerned... "Where da Asian people at?" Also thought the same thing when people started to come in, "Where the Asian people at?" Finally saw 2 asians come in - separate party. Still a bit concerned. Had the following: *Honey Garlic Shrimp - If they could get the tempura batter to come out lacy it would have been perfect. The shrimp and green beans weren't overcooked at all. The green beans snapped. There's cauliflower in it but I would rather have more green beans. I had the sweet sauce on the side. Rather dip and it staying crispy. The sauce was good. *Maguro nigiri - The quality was much better than I expected. There wasn't wasabi under the fish. It was topped with slivered shiso which I liked. *Miss Saigon - It was ok. Would I order it again, probably not. *Super Mario - This was REALLY tasty!! I requested the sauce to be on the side. I tasted it and wasn't a fan. It has a spring mix salad on the side. This dish and a bowl of miso soup for lunch would be perfect. *Cosmo - Again, I had the sauce on the side. Glad I did. I wasn't fan of the sauce. This roll reminded me kind of a dragon roll. Yes I would get this again. The tea, looked like genmaicha in a french press. They didn't use overly hot water and tasted perfect. I would definitely go again. It's not the cheapest but the quality and service is good.

Raksha R.

Yelp
Yesterday I went to this place. It was an amazing experience as everything turned out to be perfect the food we ordered, the seating we got, the vibe and the person who served us. His name is Ben and I would really want to thank him for being so humble and cheerful! We ordered cucumber infused house sake, crouching tiger roll, soy joy roll, crabbed mushrooms, vanilla bean cheesecake. Everything was scrumptious!!

Ian V.

Yelp
TLDR: Great Sushi, Great Service, and great atmosphere I will fully admit I came into this restaurant very underdressed. I think this place is great for dates and a nice place to take friends and family out to eat. My server Jared was very friendly and informative, he helped me pick out the perfect sushi for what i was craving and was super helpful and welcoming The sushi while expensive was fantastic, I slowed down my chewing so i could really savor my food. I had the crouching Tiger and definitely recommend if you like savory sushi! I also recommend getting the cucumber infused Sake, its very refreshing!! I'll have to come back for crouching tiger Tuesdays or to try out their other sushi!

Ryan R.

Yelp
Came in for late lunch. Sat at the bar and chatted it up with employees and chefs. Excellent service and selections. I sat at the small bar with modern decor. Very clean facility. I didn't use the restroom. If if you're a rebel they don't have Dr. Pepper. No harm no foul, they have fine liquor and good table wine. Ice water was good. Sushi was fresh made and delicious. Had a great time. Will be back if ever in town. If your not sure where to eat, you won't be disappointed.

Nora R.

Yelp
Lunch was hibachi tofu. Never going back. Extremely small portions except for the white rice, which I don't eat, and everything was very greasy. My dish was not described as fried and it was and I hated it. They offered extra vegetables to make up for it but they were mostly onions. So disappointing and way too expensive. They used to be great. Not sure what happened. Not worth half the price.

Lesya D.

Yelp
Food was great and server was very pleasant. Food got there quickly and I was checked on adequately.

Eddie H.

Yelp
Insect in the sushi - enjoy We ordered many sushi rolls at this place and here come the salmon with an insect running around. Looks like the kitchen is not as clean as it should be

Clarissa M.

Yelp
Ok, first of all, Ashley, GREAT service. Very kind and sweet. My partner and I made a reservation for 5:45pm on a Saturday night and were seated right away. We ordered our usuals, crouching tiger and sexy bacon. We wanted a third roll so we asked Ashley if there were any specials. We decided on the K-Pop roll because Ashley recommended it and. oh. my. goodness. Excellent recommendation. It was phenomenal. I would argue it was better than my crouching tiger roll, and that's saying something. We finished the night with the pumpkin creme brûlée, which was topped with pecans and cranberries. I would go back again just for that. We had a wonderful time and it's safe to say we will be going back. Thanks, Maru!

Karrie B.

Yelp
We love this spot for nigiri, drinks and fried rice. Best quality fish in the greater Lansing area and a beautiful environment. Restrooms are always clean and children are welcome.

Valerie L.

Yelp
Maru never fails to serve up the best hibachi around! The carry out lunch version of the hibachi chicken was amazing, accompanied by delicious vegetables and fried rice. I love eating here when I'm the area and normally dine in the restaurant because it is a chill atmosphere. My only concern about my experience today was the service. I was told to pick up the carry out order in 30 minutes. I arrived and waited an extra 20 for our food. Don't mind waiting a bit extra, but the server seemed distracted and annoyed when asked how much longer I'd have to wait in addition to the 50 minutes that had passed. Don't mind waiting, just like communication. I will keep coming back, just enjoy customer first businesses.

Timothy C.

Yelp
Sushi and food is awesome! Clean, easy to read menus and the service is great too. The sushi is fresh and not fishy smelling. The other dishes are just as fresh.

Rita G.

Yelp
On point from the moment we walked in and until the very last bite. We were promptly greeted and placed in a roomy booth near a window. It was later in the afternoon and the place had a constant flow of patrons. The waitress asked if this was our first time here and since it was, she did a great overview of the menu and happy hour. They have a bunch of discounted lunch combos and 25% off sushi and wine for happy hour. We ordered some edename and firecracker shrimp off the happy hour menu. The spicy shrimp was a perfect companion to my glass of Malbec. My kids ordered three rolls to share. Surprisingly the boys really enjoyed the vegetarian roll, even thru neither is vegetarian. I ordered the sashimi salad. I asked for them to substitute tuna for shrimp and it was no problem. In fact, everything here is "no problem", just fresh food with a smile. I noticed that they have a few locations so we will definitely be stopping by again soon.

Yelp
Great service and wonderful food. The best in Lansing area, Strongly recommend especially for lunch.

D M.

Yelp
Atmosphere very fun. Service is excellent. Appetizers are very good. Sushi rolls are fresh but not as flavorful.

Annette C.

Yelp
Best sashimi ever! Everything was so good. Ingredients were fresh. The server Arianne (?) was amazing! Will be back and soon! Kudos to the chefs!

Stephanie G.

Yelp
We regularly frequent another Maru location and really enjoy it. Thought we would stop while we were in Lansing....hoping it would be just as good. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The restaurant was not the cleanest. The service was very slow for a restaurant that was only about half full. Flavor was good on the rolls however the cut of the rolls was very uneven.

Don K.

Yelp
The old and original Maru in Okemos was excellent with huge variety. I can't say the same for this small newer one. I guess an outcome of Covid . Too bad. It was great now only mediocre

Kalin G.

Yelp
Incredible sushi. Our local favorite spot. Great options for indoor and outdoor seating. We love the crab Rangoon dip and the spicy shrimp appetizer. The crouching tiger roll is out of this world!!! Food service can be slow at peak times (great sushi takes time) but we always enjoy our drinks and the ambiance. Highly recommend

Maddy V.

Yelp
I wish I could leave a zero star review here, but unfortunately I cannot. Up until today, Maru was one of my family's favorite restaurants. Today, my family and I ordered over $120 worth of their food. After the managers handed the wrong bag out to a random "Uber eats driver", they were incredibly rude and told us that it was not their problem and we should just hope our food comes, that could have been touched by anyone and very likely be contaminated. As a business owner myself, I am very familiar with how Uber eats works. As the driver, you must give a code to the restaurant to get your order for delivery. Maru never checks this and hands out bags freely quite consistently, I have seen this while dining in at the restaurant. Anyways, I am just incredibly disappointed with how they dealt with this situation and more disappointed in the incredibly rude managers that once seemed so caring of their restaurants environment. Will not be going back!

Alexandra P.

Yelp
Is the sushi absolutely delicious? Yes. But I feel like it is so over priced for what it is!!! I would implore the owner to just knock prices down a little bit because some of the simple rules are a bit excessive

Mike T.

Yelp
Bad service!! Sushi portions are small and prices is outrageous!! Not to clean of a place either!

Josh L.

Yelp
I'm giving them 3 stars for aesthetic only. Their prices are close to 20$ a roll, nothing on their menu has pictures, and the service is slow. like slower than slow. it took 1hr and 15 minutes to receive 2 rolls, I wasn't given the option for my 7 year old to get kid chopsticks or a fork and our food was served without both until I asked. Just careless service, in general They also charge 6$ for lemonade. I can buy beer cheaper than that. I'd avoid this place if you like your money to stay in your wallet. 2 rolls here and a drink will run you 50$ at the cost of shitty service.

Kourt C.

Yelp
Had an amazing experience here! Our server, Ashley, was very sweet and gave us a wonderful recommendation for sushi. My date and I ordered 3 rolls that were all divine. I especially loved the sexy bacon. (Don't tell GR Maru, but EL Maru makes it better!) I've been here before, and this one never disappoints! We decided to also treat ourselves to dessert and ordered the pumpkin crème brûlée. Now that has got to be one of the best desserts I've ever had at a restaurant, I literally scrapped the bowl clean to savor every last morsel!! 10/10 would recommend. Maru will be seeing me again and thank you Ashley for the great service!

Deb M.

Yelp
Food is good but takeout orders are NEVER ready when they are supposed to be, even when ordered 2 to 2.5 hours in advance. It's 35 minutes past the pickup time and I'm still waiting. It's not even busy. This same crap has been going on for 2 years now. Lousy management.

Jacki B.

Yelp
This was actually the second sushi place I stopped at, as my first choice had too long of a wait to be seated... but I was not disappointed! I started off with the house salad, followed by a Madagascar roll. The house salad was a generous portion with a yummy ginger dressing on the side. I didn't even finish the salad, so I could save room for my specialty roll. The Madagascar roll is listed as "spicy" on the menu, and they are not kidding! It was so spicy but so good! If you enjoy spicy food, you would definitely enjoy this roll. However, it was so hot that I had drank all my water and the server did not refill the empty glass until I had asked him to (as my mouth was on fire haha). The server also never checked back on me, which is the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. I would definitely come back, though, as the menu had an extensive list of specialty sushi rolls that I would like to try... it was hard to choose just one! They also have drink specials listed for each night of the week, which is a plus. The night I was there, their draft beer was on special. However, I went with a glass of their Reisling which tasted great and was standard priced.

Lorianne F.

Yelp
It was okay but loving Sushi Moto, I guess, I am spoiled! I got take orders (2). I looked around the restaurant, ok, clean and attractive but not my favorite Sushi place.

Laura H.

Yelp
Not what I remember. Our waiter at this location was not as attentive as I would've liked. It was dark in the restaurant and the food was not as good as I remember. The specialty rolls were huge from what I saw and there looked to be a lot of younger chefs that did not look east asian either which was different from the last time I was here. Hm

Brian W.

Yelp
They were very accommodating to our group. We made a reservation for 15 and they gladly accepted. Asked them to just bring us their favorite hors d'oeuvres and they were all wonderful. Each dish was a great presentation and wonderful flavors.

LJ F.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. That pretty much sums it up! Would definitely stop by again next time I was in the area and recommend to others

Sarah C.

Yelp
Went here tonight with a couple friends the sushi is amazing! I can't remember all of the rolls we got but cosmo, crouching tiger, nirvana-amazing, sexy bacon, all soo soo good!

Abe B.

Yelp
Okay it's definitely been some time since I wrote a review but this place deserves a special mention so I will be happy to write one as it's well deserved. I was in Landing, MI yes there's that town and it exists. Believe me I was as surprised to be at this tiny airport myself considering Albany airport is not much bigger. After a long day of work, I was exhausted and not to mention a lack of selection for non chain food joints which I'm not very fond off. So my initial search was of sake and to be fair before I even looked up after walking into this place I was already down two large bottles of sake. No I'm not an alcoholic, it was just cold and I needed something to warm me up. The reason this place was special for food was because things I tried here was special in a few different ways. I started with Firecracker shrimp..now most places make it with Mayo, and some sort of hot sauce whether is sriracha or something else they had a different way. Talking to my server I asked if they used the Thai chili sweet paste to create the heat factor. The flavors were perfect, shrimp were big and delicious. If anything my only negative would be they could be a little crispier. So again I have to say at this point the sale was gone, I was feeling pretty good and warm and I looked up and saw a great selection of Japanese scotch behind the bar and being a big scotch fan I recognized some and not the others which made me curious and started chatting with a gentleman next to me. Who turned out to be one of the general managers later but in conversation we discussed lots of different types of scotches and he decided to do a tasting for me for all the ones behind the bar...right you all have a right to be jealous...very jealous. Now the Madagascar roll was by far one of the most delicious and balanced rolls I have had period in some time and I can honestly say I have had the freshest fish in all parts of the world. On top of that the jalapeño's give a great kick. Moreover you didn't even need any soy sauce for the rolls it came with the chili dip which was just perfection..pair that with some Fukano whiskey (which the manager said they only got 1 bottle in all their sites) and the Ohishi were just multiple cherries on top. Lastly the Matcha ice cream was delicious and not just run of the mill mundane stuff you get in a scoop at all places. I'll be honest, I wasn't a fan of the town for work purposes but I'm extremely glad I stumbled into this place. I would have ended up there for lunch the next day if I wasn't leaving. Happy eating folks and more reviews to follow.

Shelby G.

Yelp
My department chair constantly raves about how amazing Maru is so we had to check it out! Got the firecracker shrimp and gyoza to start, then four rolls: Blue mango, soy joy, papa crema, and the oceans eleven. I always worry when rolls are just drenched in sauce since it can mask the flavors, but this wasn't an issue here. Overall a nice mix of options, and the clear winners were the oceans eleven and blue mango. I'm normally not a huge fan of fruit in sushi, but I thought it was a nice pop of brightness. I also think the sprinkle of edamame in the soy joy container was a nice touch. Though honestly I would just be happy making a meal of the firecracker shrimp - so good!! This restaurant takes some serious precautions, though the wait time is slightly frustrating. For those doing pick up, I'd probably add another 10-15 mins to when they say it's going to be ready so you're not just waiting in your car. Will be back!

Erin O.

Yelp
I can't believe I have never left a review for Maru, especially considering it is my absolute favorite restaurant! If you are looking for a cheaper sushi option, this definitely should not be your go-to. However, if you are willing to pay a little bit more for a delicious meal, this is your spot. I have never had a signature roll that I didn't love (although the cosmo roll with salmon is my all time favorite), and my very non-adventurous partner is always happy with his crunchy shrimp roll. We also looooove the chicken gyoza, sweet fried tofu, and crabby mushrooms for appetizers. I have only had one cocktail, and it was a while ago, but it was yummy too. I haven't been to dine indoors since covid hit, but I have always thought their interior was very cozy and modern, albeit a little too small for comfort. Service isn't anything out of this world, but is consistently good, which is greatly appreciated in a college town. I have graduated and left East Lansing (although I am still only a half hour away), but Maru is the only restaurant I continue to make the round trip to get. Which means that I should stop writing this review now before I make some irresponsible financial decisions for dinner (:

Gail D.

Yelp
I was in the area for a Dr. appointment so I thought I get something to bring home for my husband and I. I ordered 2 unagi hand rolls and a Cosmo roll. I was told I could wait out in my car and they would bring it to me. Well I waited....and waited....and waited. 50 minutes later I finally got my food. There were people at 2 tables. I truly don't understand why it took 50 minutes to make a couple of pretty routine rolls. Very disappointed.

Hinna S.

Yelp
I ordered for the first time at Maru two weeks ago. I have to say it was just pick up, and the wait time was 40 minutes. Unfortunately, I waited outside for an additional hour because they were running late. The only reason I would give it four stars is because the sushi tasted good, but I definitely wish I had advanced notice that they were running that late.

Erica C.

Yelp
Amazing staff! They allowed us to sit even though 2/3 people in our party were going to be 30 mins later than our reservation. The place was full but there was no line, so we were grateful not to have missed our reservation. Ordered: 1. Yaki Udon with chicken - great flavor, lots if garlic! 2. Teriyaki glazed chicken Hibatchi - so good, ate it all! 3. Archer & Boogie Veggie - almost too beautiful to eat! 5. Appetizer: Edamame with black truffle - very tasty 6. Hot strawberry tea - couldn't taste the strawberry, but was light and warm on a cold day Fun atmosphere and great food!

Maeve P.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of Maru, but I've been particularly impressed recently with their efforts to stay safe during COVID. You are able to pay in advance online or on the phone and then they will bring your order out to your car once you arrive and give them a call. You can also go in to pay, but if they don't have your order ready yet they'll still bring it out to your car after you go back to wait. The register is right next to the door as well, so you spend very little time in the building even if you have to go in to pay. NOW, the food. Always satisfying, and plenty of options. While it is probably the least healthy thing on the menu, I'm a big fan of the Papa Crema, mostly for the fact that they include tempura sweet potato with the order. Other recent favorites have been the cosmo and the ex-girlfriend, and aside from the sushi, I've always been a fan of the hibachi vegetables. I don't love that you have to pay for miso and a salad when many other establishments provide these for free with an entree, but I don't come here because it's the least expensive. Overall, it's worth it for the price for the good service, good ambiance (when you actually get to sit down there), and good food.

Stephen D.

Yelp
Pricy but great Sushi and Hibachi. Atmosphere is nice but I would like to see the portion sizes a little bigger for the price range.

Tom H.

Yelp
Nice restaurant with a great ambience. The rolls are fresh and nicely composed. I've tried a variation of general rolls and the Atlantic salmon continues to be my favorite. It's simple but consistently good. If you're looking for something a bit different in a specialty roll I'd recommend the Lollipop. It's salmon, yellowtail, and tuna wrapped in cucumber. A handy little stick holds it all together thus the name. No rice. That being said the flavor and texture are initially bit different but it still presents nicely. Avocado and a salad are included on the plate to complete a nice balanced portion. The simply green is a well thought of go-to if you want to compliment with a veggie roll. The staff here are helpful and friendly. I'll continue to come back and update this review.

Draya L.

Yelp
Me and my friend love going here because the food is consistent and good! The manger and staff are also very nice! As well, it's affordability is nice too.

Al S.

Yelp
I was one of the big fans and regular customer of the Sushi Maru restaurant in East Lansing until this happened. On the Mother's day evening I made a reservation at 7 pm to have a dinner with my wife and two kids. After sitting down and ordering the drinks and appetizer, 45 minutes passed by and I asked the server about our food and he answered " it's coming in 5 minutes" then 15 minutes later ( by now it has been one hour ) I asked again and I was answered with a loud noise "I SAID IT'S COMING". After 1hour and 15 minutes, I was really pissed off and I asked the manager to give me some answer and came to find out that the server never sent the order to the kitchen in timely manner. The only thing the Mr. manager did was keep emphasizing for giving me discount on my bill. He didn't understand that I am asking for my food NOT THE DISCOUNT. So I complained about the server who didn't know anything about waiting the tables and serving the customers, and WAS VERY RUDE TO US (of course base on my frustration on Mother's Day with my wife and two hungry kids and not having any food for more than an hour) I called the server "Dumb-ass" who has no respect for customers and not even apologizing for the delay. At that time the manager on the floor (an African-American guy) took that as an excuse and an insult and refuse to give us our food and practically asked us to leave BECAUSE OF COMPLAINING FOR WAITING FOR OUR FOOD FOR 1.25 HOUR. That was so non-professional and disrespectful to my family. I am a small business owner for over 20 years and I get the hiring employees problem in this economy, but that doesn't mean, you hire anybody who walks in the door, and has no knowledge of doing the job and tell them to take care of your customers. And putting another guy, like the first one, in charge and give him the manager's title AND OFCOURSE when a problem happens, HE KEEPS SPENDING MONEY AS A DISCOUNT OUT OF OWNER'S POCKET. That was the most disappointing experience at any food place in my life. YOU KICK OUT A FAMILY WHO WAITED 1.25 HOUR FOR FOOD AND COMPLAINED FOR DELAY, just because you can't find help and can not handle your workers. WOW WOW WOW.

Yelp
I have now been to a good amount of sushi restaurants in the East Lansing area and Maru Sushi is by far the best, but the most expensive. There are two locations, one closer to Meridian Mall and one closer to Eastwood Town Center. In my opinion, both are great, but I am writing the review on this location (closer to Eastwood Town Center) because I enjoyed my experience much more. This location is bigger and from my experience, has much friendlier employees and works more efficiently. If you are coming for dinner, make sure to call ahead or make a reservation if you ever want to be seated. I came here for dinner with friends and the waitress recommended the cosmo roll to me. Let me tell you - excellent recommendation. I'm not always the biggest fan of having a ton of completely raw sushi, so I substituted the raw topping of tuna or salmon with shrimp (yum!). We ordered the calamari to share and it was also excellent. I have had this app at both locations now and they are the exact same, but slightly on the spicy side. Although I didn't order the fire cracker shrimp this time, I know that is another excellent choice that I would highly recommend. One of my friends ordered from the hibachi grill and had the tiger shrimp entree. The portion was extremely generous and tasted great! I am most definitely coming back here again for dinner and to try some drinks.

Chloe A.

Yelp
Maru makes sushi seem like fine dining, with their elegant setup and low-lit area. The sushi is a bit expensive, but the price is definitely worth it, as well as the variety that they have. Their gyoza is especially tasty, and Maru is easily one of my favorite places to get sushi!

Tyra N.

Yelp
Hmmm... I walked in with an open mind and palette but as I sat my mind closed with the cynicism of a republican at a their first 2 Chainz concert. The place was lacking diversity in patronage and staff. Every person, excluding myself and two other, guests were homogenous. My skepticism of the quality and authenticity of the cuisine grew with every view of the the staff. Sushi, to my knowledge, is an east Asian art, particularly Japanese. My expectations are limited to what I've read or viewed from other sources so I don't hold guard of authenticity for sushi. But... Crab salad, offered in many of the rolls, is not something I've experienced on other sushi menus. The idea of mayo, crab and possibly cabbage on my roll is not appetizing. Keep it for a side at picnics. Many of the rolls were tempura or some form of cooked fish and included avocado and mayo, it reeked of new hipster health kick. To add a couple of the names were offensive; Yellow fever and Miss Saigon- meh side eye. I ordered the Nirvana after not reading the menu thoroughly. It looked completely unappetizing and experimental. I switched for their most popular. It still included the overused avocado but it was presented beautifully with asparagus, sauces and salmon atop the roll. This roll, in flavor and presentation, redeemed my apprehensions. My pinot noir was also spectacular. So I will return but I won't be having the sushi. I'll opt for the non traditional more American fare.
