Maru Sushi has closed its downtown Detroit location | Eater Detroit
"Located in the Federal Building downtown, Maru Sushi & Grill — part of an Okemos-based chain with outposts in Grand Rapids, East Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Midland — has closed its doors permanently after seven years of service; a sign on the door and the restaurant’s website say the closure took effect Sunday, September 1, and a statement posted in front thanked customers for the past "[seven and a half] years." When it opened in 2016 as the chain’s sixth location, the spot was noted for its sprawling 4,400-square-foot interior with seating for 145 and a spacious outdoor patio, making it ideal for office workers, happy hour, and large groups celebrating reunions, birthdays, or anniversaries. Its menu ranged from sushi rolls and hibachi grills to small plates like fire cracker shrimp and ceviche. A new Maru location is slated to open in Brighton in 2025." - Serena Maria Daniels
