Mary-O’s was pure coincidence. We were just walking by and decided to jump in line only because of the smelll without knowing what they were selling..— and it is 100% worth it. THE SCONES… Warm, perfect, freshly out of the oven. Absolutely incredible. The girls working there are super friendly and welcoming. I definitely recommend ordering to eat there so they can serve it with Irish butter and jam. That combination takes it to another level. Honestly, just writing this review is making my mouth water. Oh my God 😍

Mary O’s is the NYC line you never skip. Their soda bread scones hit like a tiny Irish punch—crisp on the outside, melting on the inside, and that butter? Soft, warm, and sliding on so smooth it should probably buy you dinner first.

The Sunday brunch is absolutely amazing! I hear it’s only every other month (or month) & with only 40 spots available it books up fast, but if you’re lucky 🍀 enough to snag one, wow! A Trad session with a full Irish breakfast buffet - complete with beans, toast & Irish butter, fried eggs, link sausages, ham, black & white sausages, etc. & an open bar. I washed it down with Guinness & the absolutely delicious Irish coffee! See my photos & videos for details. After a bit of stuffing ourselves & listening to the wonderful melodic Irish music quartet, Mary pulled out from the oven her homemade scones! These hot moist Irish soda bread scones are the stuff of dreams, as my late momma would say, the kind of deliciousness that if you “put it on top of your head, your tongue would beat your brains out to get to it!” It is served with her homemade delicious berry jam & of course, Irish butter 😋 Get yourself to the Mary O’s brunch. This is the closest thing to an Irish ceilidh I’ve experienced outside of Ireland. The Thursday jam session is also a must. Sláinte!!!

Such a great scone. Not even a scone person and this was superb. Felt like I’m in a little English cottage eating this. Even two days later, it tasted so fresh, fluffy, and crispy on top, right out of the oven. Delicious butter and jam, too. 5 stars!!!!

Five stars for everything! I finally had the opportunity to get Mary’s legendary scones and they are worth the hype!! By far the best scone I’ve ever had, warm with kerry gold butter and homemade blackberry jam. I could eat this everyday and never get sick of it. I ordered the shepherds pie as well for dinner and was surprised by the amazing portion size for the price. Delicious as well! Mary O is the real deal!!! I had the Irish soda bread with the fresh homemade blackberry jam and the shepherd's pie. Both were delicious. I was here for the music but once I smelled the food, I had to try it. The mushrooms were also amazing. Dare I say, they may have been my favorite!!!!

Tried to order for an hour, had 5 people doing every trick in the book, alas. Every other table had food. We were kind and sober. We said we wanted to order food too.

We’ve heard so much about Mary O’s Irish Scones in the East Village, where people line up for them, and off we went today. OMG! Out of the oven, melt-in-your-mouth delicious with Irish butter and homemade jam. I’ve never had better ones anywhere. Not even in Ireland.

I was expecting the scones and soda bread to be good, but it's rare when something far exceeds the hype and redefines what I thought about an entire category. I had a scone fresh out of the oven and it was on a level with the best food I have ever been served anywhere. If I had the recipe and 10 years I would not be able to reproduce what Mary accomplishes every day. Please don't change a thing, Mary!

Mary O's, your scones are DELICIOUS! I put in an order of the 'Limited Edition Mary O's "HONY" Irish Soda Bread Scones' last year, and due to the huge demand and the pub trying to catch up on all the orders, I just received mines, a little over a year later! Man, these scones are AMAZING. You just pop them in the oven to reheat, and spread some Irish butter and the delicious raspberry jam that came with - these are not like any other regular joe schmo scones one has had before - these are fluffy with a light crispy exterior, but the inside is dense enough to absorb the butter and the jam. It had little raisins throughout, and OMG, these were just sooo good. Not too sweet! I had these after dinner, and they were perfect! I actually called Mary O's to ensure that the scones were okay to still eat, as there were all these rerouting and attempted deliveries, and I didn't get mine until a few additional days later; I spoke with Ms. Mary herself, who was super sweet and kind, and she ensured me that they will be just fine, and if there are any issues, to just call back and let her know! Luckily, they ended up being more than fine! I'd love to check out Mary O's in person the next time I'm in NYC, as their regular menu looks great (the Garlic Buttered Mushrooms, Mary O's "Scrumptious" Shepherd's Pie, the Dublin Style Chicken Curry, etc.) - it's also cool that they have vegan options, too! I'm so glad to have supported this place! Try to get your hands on their scones - you won't be disappointed! +delicious Irish Soda Bread Scones! +ask for Ms. Mary!

OMG these Irish soda bread scones are insane. I knew they would be good, but they're way better than good. PERFECTION. Lighter than regular scones. Not sweet.

Was at Mary O's last night with some friends. We met the delightful Mary O herself and enjoyed her delicious scones and shepherds pie. I can highly recommend if you're looking for a relaxed and welcoming Irish pub.

Over the weekend, I attended a party at Mary O's. It was a private event. Mary and the bartender were very attentive and kind. The food was buffet style. The shepherd's pie was perfect, some of the best I've had. The potato salad did not skimp on the scallions and I love green onions! The host of the party raves about Mary's scones. I don't really like scones, but I tried one anyways. And oh my goodness, they were amazing. Not like a typical dry scone. It was moist and flavorful with the perfect amount of sweet. I even ordered some online for myself and my mom. Can't wait for them to be shipped! I also had an Irish coffee and it took me back to my trip to Ireland about a year ago. It was delicious and true to the traditional Irish coffee. Honestly blown away from Mary and her food.

Ever since the report on ABCNews, I knew that during my visit to NYC, neither hell nor high water was going to stop me from visiting this establishment. It was Friday so I was ready for fish and chips to prepare myself for Lent. Unfortunately, I wasn't getting that as the menu that night was limited... Despite being bummed out, I was interested in Mary's Shepherd's Pie. While I waited, I asked if I could meet the lady herself and waited for my audience drinking Carlsberg beer. The shepherd's pie was a delicate process and took time, but once it came out.....OMG!!! The mashed potatoes on top were phenomenal and unlike anything other I had ever tasted. The mixture of beef and vegetables was perfection in itself and Mary had sent me into a food Nirvana! What came next is what I had heard of even before the pie.....Blackberry Scones. Mary had been making these since the pandemic began and never stopped. Her bar and scores of Flour on the shelves were proof enough of its popularity. She brought out a pair for me and I took my sweet time eating them. To this day I continue to think about them and want very much to have a night as I did. Mary is an amazing woman and she will thrill your tastebuds. I can't wait to come back.

Mary always greet her customers with a smile and her warmth makes you feel like you are a part of her family. The food is delicious and I highly recommend her homemade Irish soda bread! The ambience is very cool and comfortable and the regulars make Mary's a true gem in our neighborhood. You also shouldn't be surprised if you find yourself making a new friend and easily engaging in conversation. If you haven't been to Mary's yet You really should stop in and have a drink. You'll be sure to come back!

We were warmly welcomed into Mary 'O's like we were family. Chatting at the bar over a Guinness, sampling delicious scones with butter (we've ordered some to be delivered to our home) and flavorful corned beef and cabbage made our visit a wonderful, enjoyable experience that we will definitely repeat on our next trip to NYC. Only made better by Mary's generous hospitality. Not to be missed! Would definitely eat there again, and highly recommend

AMAZING. Can I give 6 stars? Scones are the best I've had in my life (fluffy, perfect blend of sweet and savory, absolutely decadent with the butter and homemade jam they send in the package). I feel like when I order scones (non Mary Os) they can be dry or tasteless or doughy. Not these. They are game changing. But they will make it so you can't order scones anywhere else for the rest of your life because they won't be as delicious as the ones from Mary O's, but that's a small price to pay to taste these pieces of heaven. Bonus: the blessing that Humans of New York (HONY) promised would come with the scones? IT WORKED. We have had the absolute BEST LUCK since we first ordered these in 2021. Extra bonus: they are the kindest people. We ordered scones again recently (2023) when we saw the portal was open for new orders. And they wrote a message on our box "sending lots more luck your way" with lots of hearts. SO KIND!!! Extra extra bonus: we also sent a friend these scones in 2021 (after we had amazing luck), and he's also had an incredible string of good luck. We just ordered him another box, and I'm sure we'll be ordering boxes for years to come. Highly recommend. Thank you Mary O's and the HONY blessing!!

Mary, the owner of this charming establishment, is one of the most genuine and sweet people I've met in NYC. Her restaurant is filled with joy and delicious food and wondrous Irish music from 20+ musicians on Thursday nights. I explained that I was gluten free and the bartender brought Mary out to talk. Mary had seen gluten free flour at the market earlier that day and had decided to buy it. I tasted the first gluten free fish and chips she's ever made. It was the BEST fish and chips IVE ever had, gluten or no gluten! DELICIOUS, HOMEY, GRAND. 11/10 review, thank you so much Mary for the wonderful experience with my family!

This is a hidden gem run by the jewel herself, Mary. I could listen to her stories and eat her scones all day and night. We got the veggie cakes to start, the Shepherds pie, the chicken pot pie, a few pints of Guinness, an Old Fashioned made with Mary's recommendation of Irish liquor and Irish Coffees . We took some scones to go too. Everything was wonderful and Mary is amazing. I am so glad I got the chance to go in person, I ordered her scones from the HONY story and I still have Erinn's artwork on my fridge as my reminder that there is good in this world. I hope to get a few more visits in before we move again! Mary is the best this world has to offer. There is definitely magic and divine energy in this place

Mary o's is the classic and best local warm and friendly neighborhood bar. This is the neighborhood living room with great beer on draft and the best scones in nyc. The back area is a great place for small parties--I have hosted several there as well as in curbside seating area.

We arrived on Monday the day after St. Patrick's Day. Having not being able to celebrate the day before; we figured we would celebrate a day late when we had to travel to NYC. Being from New York, I knew with a little research I would find one. When we arrived at the restaurant it was closed for the evening. However, Mary, the owner invited us in after hearing we had just arrived from out of town. She proceeded to demonstrate what genuine hospitality means especially to strangers. The corned beef and cabbaged she served was delicious; the beef tender, cabbage cooked perfectly and every morsel full of flavor. Of course, we had scones, which yes, were delicious! I am most grateful for the wonderful experience, hospitality and very good food. Thank you Mary and your staff for making the evening one to treasure. I'll be back and can't wait for my scone order to get to Providence!

Mary O's is a NYC gem. The scones and shepherd's pie are both wonderful, as are the drinks. Most wonderful, however, is the atmosphere of the place. Mary was very kind to us when we came in and there was amazing live Irish music on the Thursday night we were there. I am excited to return and try more of their food soon.

I walked into this establishment where I was looking to meet friends. I needed to pee and went straight towards the bathroom and the bartender literally followed me (38 year old SOBER female) into the bathroom telling me I needed to leave unless I ordered a drink first. Honestly I was so shocked that this woman followed me into a bathroom, not allowing me to utilize the facilities immediately assuming I did not want to stay. I felt unwelcome and zero hospitality. I felt like she was chasing me away, I'm very unclear why. I will never return. I would give zero stars.

Love the scones! We will be ordering again. They came in time for Christmas, so this might be a new tradition for us.

This is my boyfriend's favorite spot in NYC, and even though I'm not a bar person, I agreed to go here with him shortly after we started dating. Boy, am I glad I gave this place a shot! Mary O's is like the bar equivalent of the friend that knows how to have fun, but still gets up in the morning, goes to class, and aces the final exam. It's a mixture of a lively and inviting bar scene tempered with the comfort and hospitality of Mary O, the proprietor, and her low-key regular customers. Mary O's is a great place to come for beer lovers - they have a ton of different types on draught, including a signature Mary O's IPA, which was very good with some floral notes. I also like the Irish Coffee, which is fantastic as a dessert or on its own, and comes piping hot and sweet with Jameson Whiskey and clotted cream. It's the perfect winter warmup after walking around the cold NYC streets all day! The food doesn't disappoint, either! Not only is it very high quality for bar food (the Shepherd's Pie is a standout), but it is also super reasonably priced for New York City. Nothing, not even the delicious Cajun Salmon, breaks the $20 price point. I'm impressed! Get yourself here the next time you find yourself in NYC. You'll be so glad you did! I'm not even exaggerating when I say that Mary O's has the best Irish soda bread scones I've ever had in my entire life. They melt in your mouth and are so delicious. I'm glad I got six because any less wouldn't have lasted more than an hour! I've had their food in many occasions pre-covid and can also say with great certainty that they have really incredible shepherds pie and some great appetizers. Mary herself is an Icon. Tonight was my second time and she remembered me from 5 years ago. Her stories are hilarious and almost as good as her food. This woman is such a vibe, you cannot go wrong. Amazing atmosphere, great tunes, great company. Can't wait to go back !

What can I say? This is a true Irish Pub. Mary is sweet and provides great service. Hand poured Whisky! No shot glass pours. And her food is awesome. The soda bread scones are amazing. Have them warm with some Irish butter and homemade jam. Heaven

I have been here a few times and have enjoyed myself everytime. The beer is always cold and the food is delicious. The best thing about Mary O's is the Scones!!!!!!! I took a dozen home with me because you can't get anything better when it comes to Irish soda bread. I had the pleasure of meeting Mary herself and she made sure my scone were right out of the oven. Mary put her heart into these scones and it really makes a difference. All I can say is its great bar with really good food and beer, great staff , awesome owner and the best scones ever!!!!

Went there on a rainy Sunday night with a few friends. Needed a wheelchair friendly place to eat some yummy food. (Able to enter, sit, and use bathroom with manual chair with no issues.) Very pleased! Didn't have many entrees on the menu that night, but knew this going in. We had previously called to check on the access. Wonderfully surprised by the delicious scones and garlic mushroom w/parmesan appetizer! Didn't know they were famous for their scones but I def know why now! We ordered entrees of baked cod, chicken curry, and Shepard's pie as well as two rounds of Guinness. When we left for the night we asked if they had any scones to go and brought some home for breakfast. The staff was welcoming, kind, and informative. My only slight negative was that my friends were a little chilly at first, but with the stairwell door closed afterwards, everything was better. We even were able to find a parking spot right outside. Although I suspect that was pure luck. Plan to return next time I am in the area. Thank you!

This place is a rip off disgusting. $11 for a draft beer? Are you kidding me? It's a dive bar in the east village I'm Really disgusted by the service and the drinks were highly watered down. So many better places in the neighborhood DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE

A while back a friend bought two packages of Mary's Scones after seeing a post from HONY-Humans of New York. Mary must have been inundated with orders as the order was just received..Mary fulfilled the order---no matter the time it took to do it! Love Mary O's moved to the EV area and was looking for a homey local bar with some good food that wasn't a crazy wild scene down here. Happened to see Mary's story on NY1 about her soda bread scones. Ordered some and met Mary in person. She is the best so down to earth like a old friend you've known forever. Whenever I get a chance will try to get down to say hi and get a drink or a bite. Definitely go order some soda bread order a bite ( Mary cooks a lot of things personally ) a gem in a wild neighborhood of bars and options. Gotta get back soon! It's great that things are opening up , would love to see it packed!

Mary O's is a hidden gem on Avenue A. It's truly such a comforting place. Popped in lasted month with a mate and came back ASAP. Mary is usually tending bar, she's super sweet and attentive. It's comforting because it tends to be filled with quiet folks, regulars, or her friends. It feels like drinking in someone's home. I absolutely love it. When I came with my friend the first time, she hooked us up with two free hot ciders. I really felt blessed. They were amazing and part of the reason I returned last month. We showed up on Dec 23 around 10pm, the bar was quiet and filled with Mary's friends. We grabbed a booth in the back and my partner who has an extreme love of only dive bars (!) gave Mary O's the thumbs up. Despite it not being on wall behind the bar, Mary was kind enough to fetch me multiple glasses of the cider. She also put on the Rangers game for me! I was so touched. I had their chocolate dessert and multiple glasses of cider. Fantastic night and fantastic way to start the holiday weekend. This place is positively wonderful. On Thursdays they have live Celtic music!

First visit here and I was NOT disappointed! First time eating Shepherds Pie and it was so amazing! Nice portion and I have enough for leftovers tonight. I even met the owner, Mary. She was so kind. I'll be back..

Some dear friends sent me Mary O's amazing Irish soda bread scones. I live in California now and it gave me such a sense of nostalgia for the East Village. If you're in NYC do yourself a favor and get to Mary O's for a box of these beauties. Rush home to pop one in the oven for a few minutes, crack it open, and slather it with butter and jam... quite heavenly with a cup of coffee or tea. Thanks Mary O's for continuing to serve up these little pillows from heaven in these challenging times!

Great venue for local original music. Drinks are expensive but there is no cover cost. Limited menu but high quality. Excellent female bar tender who was willing to create a new cocktail. Very cute

Well worth going there! Mary makes such an effort to make everyone happy and fulfilled -- and she makes it look effortless. In all the years, I've been going there with family or friends, I have never seen her write down an order... and when the food and drinks come, everything is always right. An amazing skill, for sure. She pours a mean Guinness and her glasses of wine are always extra full.

Kicking off the long weekend just right with Mary O'halloran at Mary O's! Thanks to NY1's Roger Clark for alerting us to her scones! We had an amazing traditional Irish breakfast, complete with tea and then a Guinness (or two), and then took home trays of shepherds pie and chicken pot pie to have for dinner. And more scones, of course! If you are looking for the best homemade Irish fare, look no further. Call Mary and she'll make sure to take care of you, with personal and charming service. You will not be disappointed! I promise!

This place is truly something special. THE BEST SCONES (fluffy, crispy, and oh so decadent), BEST SHEPARDS PIE I have ever had and not to mention their in-house IPA and live music. If you're looking for the best friendly service and some of the best comfort classics, you best head this way! The owner is beyond lovely and so sweet, she really brought together the entire experience. And all the other servers and bartenders were so amazing, truly a well loved establishment by staff and patrons. Can not wait to share my beloved experience with everyone :)

I walk into an Irish bar and immediately spot the Guinness on tap. At that point, what more do you need? Well I guess some people need more than that, and Mary O's provides. We dropped in as bar of a beer marathon and were quite ready for some chicken fingers. They were cooked well and a steal for $5 on special. The sauce they came with was plain, but the bleu cheese they also provided made up for it. This is definitely one of the nicer bars in the area and the bartending staff was great! I would definitely come here again.

Not great. Not bad. Just average. I ordered take out on the app on a Thursday night. I scheduled my order a half hour ahead of time, not ASAP. I got to Mary O's about five minutes before I had scheduled. I then waited five or so minutes before any staff came up to me. I got my takeout immediately and paid. When I got home (only about a five minute walk) I opened up my order and dug I'm because I was STARVING! Both the fish and the chips were soggy. I have a feeling they made my order when I placed it and left it sitting for a half hour instead of making it when I got there/a few minutes before. I like my fish and chips crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fish was just soft all around and soggy. The chips were also soggy from being under the fish and there weren't that many. Not impressed and won't be going back.

Mary O's is a little slice of Irish hospitality right in the middle of the East Village. Love it for the wonderful hostess, the cold Guinness, and the great food. More than just my local, it is after a sort, my home away from home. Thanks Mary.

PmMary O's is the best new restaurant in NYC. Located in the East Village, Mary O'Halloran puts a new twist on traditional Irish Pub. She serves traditional Irish comfort food such as shepherds pie, and fish &chips. I had the baked Cajun salmon filet with citrus butter, carrotarsnip puree, homemade mashed potatoes.fish was cooked exactly the way I asked. My husband had the 14 Oz NY sirloin cooked perfectly. I am a returning customer, and had delicious steamed market vegetables with tomato and lentil couscous. Mary also bakes fresh homemade scones which are the best I've ever eaten. Sometimes you will see Mary herself running the bar, but always has time to greet you, chat, and make sure you have a perfect dining experience. I also had my retirement party at Mary O's. Mary went out of her way to make sure the party was perfect. I am also planning another party at Mary's restaurant in April.
