On the Grid : Mary’s Fish Camp

"A relaxed, lively place serving some of the best lobster rolls in the city as well as other delicious seafood dishes. Order an oyster po boy, fish tacos and some fresh steamers. Wash it all down with a beer or two, and life is good." - Superficial Studio

The Biggest Restaurant Closings of 2024 in NYC | Eater NY

"A West Village seafood staple that closed in May after 23 years; owner Mary Redding announced the closure in February and offered an optimistic farewell: “This will not be the end,” she said at the time. “We are hoping for fair winds on our next fishy endeavor. Anchors aweigh!” The restaurant was known for world-class lobster rolls and clam chowder served in cramped confines." - Emma Orlow

15 Top Spots for Raw Bar in NYC | Eater NY

"This pint-sized space has been serving up well-received seafood since 2000. Mary Redding, a partner at nearby Pearl Oyster bar — another excellent option for raw bar — opened up the charming West Village seafood joint. One of the city’s topnotch places for finding a New England fish shack feel in NYC, the raw bar menu changes often with options displayed on a chalkboard. Complement raw seafood with a memorable fresh sardine banh mi, a grilled shrimp burger spiked with sambal lime aioli and daikon slaw, and a fried clam roll spiffed up with celery root remoulade. Long waits are common at dinnertime, so opt for lunch or brunch." - Alexandra Ilyashov

We had an amazing time at Mary’s Fish Camp! The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Steve, the camping host — he went above and beyond to make sure everyone was comfortable. Every morning and afternoon, we enjoyed the beautiful view right in front of the river, where you can relax, fish, or even bring your own boat. We stayed during Halloween weekend and had so much fun with our kids, family, and friends. On Saturday afternoon, the place was lively with great people and live music, making the experience even better. This place is truly a hidden gem — peaceful, fun, and full of charm. We can’t wait to come back!

We had an amazing time at Mary’s Fishing Camp. We brought our RV, we got in at night time. They have Steve ready to help, he guided us to our spot, very friendly gentleman. In the morning we were wowed by the view of the water and later the views of the sunset deck. It is a small place but oh boy we had fun. They have a store were you can get bat, even a fishing pole, they sell other things as well. They have a little dock as well as a ramp. They have kayaks for rent and guided tours. They have a few cabins, most with water views. Here everyone was like family. Weeki wachee state park is just 3-4 miles away, if you want to go swim in the springs or see the mermaids. Will love to come back.

Stayed here this weekend in Cabin 3. We went in with an open mind not really knowing what to expect. The AC in the cabin was awesome! Appliances are outdated and the fridge wasn't staying cold like it should so may need to bring a cooler. The freezer was ice cold. We liked the location on the seawall as a fishing family! We had dolphins come by everyday! The weather was really hot so fish weren't really biting during the day. We did catch alot of catfish during the evening. Live music played on Saturday night and she was enjoyable to listen to. The small store had bait, ice, sodas and beer for sale, along with a few other things. Only open from 9am to 6pm each day. It is a quiet atmosphere which I enjoyed. Busier on the weekend. The locals suggested coming back in the cooler months for better fishing from the seawall. We will definitely be back!

Just completed my first trip to Mary’s Fish Camp. We stayed in our RV for three nights and four days. The folks there are amazing. They will help you get situated and pretty much reactive to you needs. Very laid back and restful. Saturday night had very nice singer on the dock. We loved it and will be back again soon. It is worth the trip. All hookup|You need are|Available. Bottom line great|Location, greater people |A hidden gem!!!!!

Fishing doesn’t seem to be the primary identity of this establishment. Fishing is disrupted by docks you aren’t allowed to use and kids and kayak groups kayaking over fishing line. Way too much water activity for active fishing. Otherwise, seems like an okay place to stay. RV park ambiance. $10 to fish is too much.

Staff is very kind and accommodating. The camp is fun with fishing kayaks available and even a playground for kids. Very convenient for plans of going to the Weeki Wachee park only 10 minutes away and lots of food and shopping options in the area.

Come here just to fish and the kids always catch something! They have a nice store for drinks and snacks and bait. Very friendly and clean. Highly recommend

Yelp
1/5 3 minutes ago on Google Disrespect, lack of regard for cabin guests. Woke up to BEDBUGS 1am this morning cabin 5. After extensive search online. Seems this ongoing concern in cabin 5 and 6. Packed up and left middle of night. Drove up this morning to hand in keys. Went exactly as I suspected. No apology. No acknowledgement they even had heard about the problem. Sandy, and what seemed like 5 other employees were in office. All wearing Mary's Fish camp apparel. Not one of them looked at me, rather they hung their heads. She said she would tell Manager. Possibly many need to chance mattress. I'm sure they will have another customer staying soon without taking measure to eradicate the BEDBUGS. Needless to say, I imagined a great weekend. Now we are re-doing laundry. To ensure their problem, doesn't become a problem in our home.

Yelp
I am so happy that we took the chance and just stopped in without a reservation. Couldn't have been any nicer and we had the most serene kayak trip with a perfect ending to the trip with seeing a momma a baby manatee. We will definitely be back in the future with reservations.

Yelp
Great down home fishing & camping spot. There is a good reason the sea wall is generally packed with folks fishing. Mullet seem to be the most common fish landed but there is no telling what was on the end of the Chaps pole next to me yesterday when something grabbed his live shrimp & took it & his pole into the depths. Tarpon, Snook, Reds & Jacks. You never know what you will catch at Mary's.

Yelp
Mary's Fish Camp is an awesome place to take the family camping. They are a short Kayak ride to the Weeki Wachee springs. Super relaxing at night. They even had live music in the evening the weekend we were there. They have a big sea wall to fish and a boat ramp for small boats and Kayaks. Highly recommend them. The people who run the grounds are amazing.

Yelp
Mary's was great! Super awesome small town campground with the touch of home feel. Was super clean and had these really cool custom fire rings. Anyone who was at the camp store was super friendly and inviting even toward us being a LGBT couple. Was cool to stand on the dock and see dolphins right there in the water. From what I saw looked like people were enjoying themselves fishing off the sea wall.

Yelp
We found this place by chance when our original plans changed. The staff are friendly and super helpful, the fish are plentiful, and the place has a great Old Florida feel. My boyfriend and I are not very familiar with fishing, but our kids wanted to try it. No one mocked their Spider-Man and Elsa fishing rods and everyone was welcoming. And the kids caught fish! We will definitely be back. Special thanks to Damian, who gave pointers to us and the kids.

Yelp
Save your money and go to Lake Panasoffkee off 75 north of Hwy 50 East. Huge bass & fish, cheaper $ for fully furnished cabins weekend rates and a marina that has a live well. Wildlife is otters, Osprey, Blue & White Herons, etc.

Yelp
What a hidden treasure! Right on the river- a peaceful, quiet and friendly place. Our cabin was clean and a perfect temporary home away from home. Staff could not have been more accommodating. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great weekend for family. Fishing from dawn to dusk and then wonderful BBQ and live music around camp fire. Cabin was clean and very well appointed. Staff friendly and helpful. Plan to return for another weekend.
