From the Pane e Vino team, this lively two‑story trattoria does contemporary Italian—house pastas, a robust amari list, and a notably strong gluten‑free menu. Frequently booked and favored by diners for its carbonara and short rib gnocchi.

When we sat down we waited 15 to 20 minutes before our server came over to our table. When we sat down we were given bread and oil with water. The bread was great, for me it was the highlight of the meal. The bolognese was over powered with tomatoes. Couldn’t get the pork or veal flavors I was craving. The mashed potatoes where soupy and heavily flavored with rosemary. I passed on deserts. My son tried the lava cake and didn’t finish it. I tried a piece and was not disappointed.

Drove in from out of town. Food was hot and fresh. The dishes were very detailed. It is kid friendly. The only thing was i had to ask for my drink 3 times. We could've used more bread for the main dish. For the price of the food, I would've expected a little more attention since we were not drinking.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Massimo while having an extended layover in Providence. It was truly an unforgettable experience! The ambiance was absolutely stunning, creating a perfect setting for a memorable night out paired with great food. The scallops and broccoli were cooked to perfection, with a delightful balance of flavors that left me wanting more. The drink menu is extensive with both cocktails that were crafted with precision and creativity as well as a large wine selection . I was arecommended a wine to be paired with my entre and it really brought the whole meal together. Lastly, the service throughout the night was perfect both with attention to detail and recommendations! I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience and I can't wait to get back and try more of their menu!

We have always had the best time at Massimo and this past weekend was no different. The food and drinks were delicious and the staff went above and beyond. My boyfriend called ahead as he planned to propose that night. The staff immediately helped him plan the perfect evening. Our server Nate and the rest of the staff went above and beyond to make the moment incredibly special. We are so thankful to everyone for making our night memorable. Massimo will always have a special place in our hearts. Thank you!

the short rib gnocchi was pretty good but had way too much flavor, almost made it salty. I got some other dishes, and they were good too, though. very romantic atmosphere, it was great. amazing drink selection and friendly staff.

Cute little Italian spot. We were sat outside since the indoor seating and bar were packed. The table was near a dumpster or something because the stench was not great the whole time we were having dinner. For the price I didn’t think the food was anything amazing. The dishes had flavor but there was things I felt could have been tweaked to make them better. I had no complaints about the meatball appetizer, they were soft and the sauce and cheese with them were delicious. I had an issue with the ziti and the chicken limon. The ziti was extremely pricey for the portion and with no meat. I don’t think it was worth it. The chicken limon had flavor but there was way too much sauce/liquid. It took away from the crispiness of the fontina potato. It was basically soaked so I’m not sure what the point of frying the potato was if it was going to be soggy lol. I just don’t think the dish was well thought out in my opinion. The drinks were basically juice. Barely even a shot of alcohol. With the prices this place is charging. Just not really a place I would recommend for fine dining. You’re better off at Al Fornos. The service is also lacking. We had to keep asking for more water even though there was someone going around refilling the water they kept skipping over our table.

I booked a reservation for my husband’s birthday and we dined before attending a concert in Providence. Brianna was our server and was great! The pace of service, food and ambience was great! Very attentive to the fact that it was a birthday. We willl return!

Google
The food was incredible. For $24 they had a 3 course lunch menu. I picked a caesar salad, Risotto di Mare and tiramisu for dessert with a cup of cappuccino. The panini was delicious. 10/10 for everything. Excellent service and ambient environment.

Yelp
Amazing food. The Italian old fashioned left a lot to be desired but that's okay. I tried the frutti de mare and was extremely fresh and flavorful. Plenty of shellfish, octopus, calamari, shrimp, scallops. A good sized portion of spaghetti as well. The calamari appetizer was melt in your mouth tender. The antipasti was generously sized. I also got the affogato for dessert and it was also incredible. We had trouble deciding between entree options because everything sounded really great. Overall the food was reminiscent of Europe. The decor felt upscale but comfortable, "smart casual" you could say.

Yelp
!!!!!! MUST GO !!!!!! For anyone gluten-free in driving distance of Providence, this is an absolute must-go!!! I had short rib gnocchi, which was absolutely to die for, two different flavors of espresso martinis which were both delicious, and a BANGIN' gluten free cannolo (basically one huge cannoli) that was crispy and delicious and I wanted to eat 1000 of them. It was so wonderful that I forgot to take pictures, but the inside looked so Frank Sinatra/old Italian restaurant/Godfather that I was absolutely obsessed with it.

Yelp
Valet parking, was quick easy and prompt. Service was excellent- food came paced well, waiter anticipated our needs without asking Ambiance- excellent decor, beautiful rooms, quiet environment not too loud Food was delicious - we all had different meals at our party of 7 and all were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend

Yelp
Came here with the family for Sunday brunch. The included valet was convenient, and the seating area is nice. They immediately serve fresh warm focaccia bread, might be the best I've ever had. I had the crab benedict. It was incredible, with a nice poached egg, and amazing crab cakes. My wife had the French toast which was also incredible. The kids entrees are pricey, but portions could feed adults, and the "chicken fingers" are actually a sliced up fresh made breaded chicken filet (as opposed to a frozen chicken finger), although I'm not sure my son fully appreciated it :) But he did appreciate the gelato Sunday for dessert.

Yelp
I think I've said enough about Massimo's food already (it's amazing) so this update is solely about the after dinner drinks that we ordered the other night. We had already enjoyed dinner (gluten-free carbonara for me & lasagna for my partner) but we both were still craving a sweet treat. We decided on two tiramisu espresso martinis. Our server, Hailey, had been quick, attentive, & friendly all night & she assured us that the martinis could be made with decaf espresso. Once we had ordered, she was back in a flash with the drinks. We agreed that the dark, opaque coup glasses really added to the presentation. Then we tasted the drinks. I knew immediately that this was the best espresso martini I've ever had. My partner agreed. Phenomenal! Frothy, sweet but not too sweet, the perfect after dinner treat. My only qualm is that they were a bit small for $15. I wish they had been at least filled to the brim of the coup glass. Regardless, killer drink. Amazing recipe. Props to the bartenders & props to Hailey.

Yelp
Service 5/5 Ambiance & Interior 4/5 Food 3.8/5 Price 4/5 Our server was sweet and funny he also made some great recommendations. Nonetheless the cheese on our gnocchi was pretty overpowering thick and salty. The salad was good but the onions really add a super tart tang. The fish was the lightest and the couscous paired nicely with it - the Bolognese was your basic bolognese. Overall it was good but nothing particularly special the price was fair for Italian and the service was great. The bread here denser than most and the oil - cohesiveness of this was a quite heavy, dense and salty.

Yelp
The food, service and ambiance was perfect! It's a charming restaurant very well designed. We were led upstairs into another space that gave us that wow factor as we entered the restaurant. Our server Randy was very knowledgeable and helpful with our selection from our menu. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I was hopeful based on all the positive reviews and pictures. Actual experience? Did not live up to any of the reviews (except the woman who said she was also fooled by the rave reviews -- if you're reading this we should be friends!). We ordered the baby artichoke "salad". I'm not sure I would call that a salad. Or baby artichokes. In any case, they lacked flavor. That's the best thing I can say about those. For dinner we had the fusilli with meatballs and burrata. Everything about this dish was uninspired. The meatballs weren't good. They could have used some garlic and other such flavoring. The burrata was... weird. It had the consistency of a balloon. I couldn't cut through it. It opened up and liquidy cheese came out. The pasta was cooked ok but the sauce was pretty blah too. Even with crushed red pepper it was lacking any sort of kick. I wanted to like this place so much. But we won't be back.

Yelp
Our party of four made reservations for an 11am Sunday brunch at Massimo's in Providence. One of the advantages of arriving at 11am is parking. It's quite easy to find on street parking at 11am, alternatively Massimo's offers valet parking. We scored some convenient parking around the corner and walked about a block to the restaurant. It's also less busy at 11am, by Noon, Massimo's was getting quite busy, it's a popular place for good reasons. We were seated immediately and were served some very warm and tasty bread with some olives. Our pleasant waiter took our order. We selected both breakfast and lunch dishes including: Lobster Crepes (2 diners ordered this) $23 Polpette and Ziti $22 French Toast $16 Cafe Latte $4 Hot Tea $3 The food arrive in reasonable amount of time, and looked good. The lobster crepe diners thought the dish was very good, but commented it wasn't very hot. The French Toast was described as delicious. My Poplette dish included three large meatballs, of which I consumed two, with ricotta cheese placed in-between them. Both meatballs were very tasty, one was nicely hot, one was cool, which was surprising as they were in the same dish. Our service was good, though we were chatting away and not in a rush. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would be happy to return.

Yelp
Came here with high hopes after reading many raving reviews claiming this is the best Italian restaurant in Providence, but was disappointed by the underwhelming food! Ambiance and service were both more casual than expected. Women's bathroom had a distracting strong smell coming from the oil diffuser that was the opposite of pleasant. Overall the food was underwhelming, and the purple rain cocktail I tried was an overly sweet and severely water down purple punch! Fried smelt appetizer was the best dish of the night Pork chop was such a thick generous cut, however it was slightly over done, and the pan fried gnocchi below was tough and dry, soft and pillowy gnocchi would have provided the dish some much needed balance.

Yelp
Wasn't a fan of adding the tomato sauce to their seafood pasta. The typical seafood pasta in Italy would not be made this way--- the whole idea behind it is to keep the flavor of the fish as the main part of the dish, but the tomato sauce greatly overpowers it. As with most " Italian" restaurants on federal hill, this one has definitely been Americanized. Also way too expensive for my likings, especially for dishes I can cook better on my own.

Yelp
Absolutely our favorite Italian restaurant in Providence! We came in based on a recommendation from my sister, who said it is her favorite, and it does not disappoint! We actually have come twice in the last month already! Our first visit was the week of Valentine's Day so they had some specials, of which we partook. The burrata salad to start was refreshing and the fresh bread is wonderful. We split the short rib gnocchi and duck anatra for our main course. Both were fabulous! The Anatra was like nothing I've ever had before, the sweet ravioli was a perfect pair with the savory duck! I am glad that we split that dish however, the novelty and deliciousness of the dish would have gotten to be a bit tired by the end of the whole plate. The gnocchi and short rib was so good, we had to stop ourselves from scarfing it down too quickly. For our last course, we got the special ref velvet lava cake and a tiramisu. My goodness. That lava cake. SO GOOD! The tiramisu was also great, we ended up taking that home because we ordered too much wonderful food. Our first visit we sat downstairs, near the window and it was the perfect seat. The downstairs has very intimate lighting and feels very cozy. Our waiter was outstanding, I wish I remembered his name because he deserves a shout out for being so fabulous. Our second visit, we sat upstairs which is much more spacious and a more casual vibe. We made a spontaneous decision to get dinner around 8:30 on a Sunday. I started with an espresso martini (so good!) and got the Orecchiette con Cime di Rapa (can't wait to get it again!). We finished the meal with a slice of olive oil cake with vanilla gelato. Our second visit was just as delicious as our first!

Yelp
Had the pleasure of having lunch here a few days ago. I was particularly interested in their lunch deal, where you can get a 3 course meal for $24. It was a deal I simply couldn't pass up. You get a choice of a salad, a pasta entrée, and dessert. I got a Ceasar salad, the Ravioli Ripieni di Burrata for my entrée, and the Il Cannolo for desert. Everything was very tasty. I ate at the bar and my server was helpful and patient. I really enjoyed my time here. I can definitely see myself coming back, especially with that incredible lunch deal. My final bill was $29 and some change. Can't beat it!

Yelp
We went in as a party of three on a Sunday night. They were packed and were able to get us an hour earlier because they opened up the upstairs dining room. The waitress was fantastic and the food was even better. She took our drink order and made them herself. My favorite was the Purple Rain $15. The bone in veal chop was excellent. It was pounded thin and cooked medium well. The red sauce was also great, the veal was tender and flavorful. I would definitely order it again and I would highly recommend it. $35- The pork chop $32 was a nice thick cut and was also tender, juicy and very flavorful. I wasn't a fan of the gnocchi because they were dry and had a toasted crunch to them. Now for the Spaghetti al Noro con Aragosta $39. This was my favorite dish of the night. The squid ink pasta and the lobster cream was unbelievable. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. There was just enough lobster in the dish. I would go back just for this dish. Amazing! We finished with the bread pudding $10 for dessert, which was much better than I expected it to be. The vanilla Gelato was so refreshing and paired perfectly with the warm, moist raisin bread pudding. Great place for date night and lives up to the reviews. There are two bars, one on each floor and a separate room upstairs for large parties. Highly recommended spot on the Hill.

Yelp
The restaurant is in a vibrant neighborhood with many options. It's very popular too, parking can be difficult. The restaurant is pretty big with two floors and has a nice vibe to it. It appeared to be the spot for celebrations, such as birthdays. The service was great with our server dropping by often to refill waters and get whatever we needed. The bread is so good, one of the best I've ever had. It comes with olive oil dipping sauce with olives. The short rib gnocchi came out very hot and the sauce was really good. There was a generous amount of meet and the gnocchi was cooked well. For the quality of the food and service, you'd think it'll cost more.

Yelp
I read that Massimo is the best restaurant in Rhode Island. I wanted to go back to Federal Hill, the Italian section of Providence for fresh pasta, imported unique wines & authentic Italian food. Valet parking was available. There was al fresco dining & giant sliding glass doors that create an fresco feel. Our flight was delayed and I was so happy it wasn't an issue re. dinner. The restaurant is casual, some were in jeans & sneakers enjoying pizza & salad. We sat indoors in front of the opened glass doors, the weather was perfect. Nate was our waiter, and he took very good care of us. We started with delicious bread, olives and olive oil. We selected Italian wines from the interesting list. We shared the antipasto, zucchini blossoms stuffed with cheese & pesto. The appetizer was amazing, three large blossoms overfilled with creamy, deliciousness. As an entrée, we shared the homemade fusilli with meatballs, burrata cheese, and San Mariano marinara sauce, it was exceptional! The pasta melted in my mouth, the pasta was like nothing else! The tirmasu was light, creamy & the perfect ending to a delicious meal! There are happy hour half priced appetizers from 3:00 until 6:00, prix fixe dinners on Monday's and 3 course lunch specials. We made dinner reservations weeks in advance with Open Table and were happy to enjoy the dinner menu. There were many gluten free, vegan & vegetarian options. The restaurant was very loudvery loud motorcycles & cars passed in front of Massimo. Let's come back tomorrow for lunch?

Yelp
We really love the food at Massimo. The lunch special is particularly spectacular for the three courses for $24. We also love the braised short rib gnocchi. The service is always top notch, and it's always lovely to sit by the big windows and look out on Atwells Ave.

Yelp
By far the BEST Italian restaurant I've been to. I live in NY and this one exceeded my expectations. The food was so authentic. Great flavor in everything ordered. We had the burrata to start. The complimentary bread they brought to the table was absolutely divine! My husband and I shared the chicken parm and they actually divided the meal into two plates for us which was very thoughtful. So it felt like we were each eating our own meal instead of picking off one big plate and bringing it to a smaller plate. The service was great. The restaurant itself felt like I was in someone's home. It felt comforting and spacious. Loved everything about this place! 10/10.

Yelp
Visited Massimo for a birthday dinner and boy did they not disappoint. Sat in the rustic ground space with exposed brick windows and pictures of iconic Italians sparked throughout the room. We started with fried calamari and garlic aioli. The calamari was cooked well, but the portion was a little small. I pulled the trigger on the 8oz filet special on a bed of mushroom risotto. The filet itself didn't knock my socks off, but the mushroom risotto was the best part of the meal. It had a rich, creamy, umami-packed flavor profile that made a great pairing with the filet. The best bites were a combo of filet and the risotto. The service for the entire mea was exceptional. Our waters were always full or near full and our server, Randy, was fantastic and had a nice wine to go along with the filet that I really enjoyed. We finished the meal by splitting affogatto with a nice birthday garnish. Massimo is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the city, and for good reason! Keep it up!

Yelp
I've been to Massimo's twice and both times were delicious! Most recently I went for my boyfriend's birthday and they had a special happy birthday sign waiting for the table. We started out with excellent focaccia bread and olives, and they offered a refill. We shared a calamari appetizer, which I thought was super fresh. For the main courses, my boyfriend got the special - an 8oz steak with a risotto. The risotto was amazing! Very umami, with a lot of parmigiana coming through. I got the short rib gnocchi. I really enjoyed it. It was a nice balance of fresh and meaty. We had a great waiter, Randy, who made a good wine recommendation to my boyfriend, and suggested an upgrade to our Carmel gelato so it would include a shot of espresso and cookie crumbs. They also dressed it up for my boyfriend's birthday. Much to his relief, no one sang as it was brought out. I accidentally left my leftover box on the table and realized when we got home. I called and they said they'd keep it for me to pick up. This is both a reflection on their commitment to customer satisfaction, and how much I liked the dinner.

Yelp
We enjoyed a fantastic Italian meal at Massimo last night. It was our first time in Providence and we had no idea there was authentic Italian food available. Massimo is a mid-sized restaurant right in the heart of the historic Federal Hill neighborhood. Judging by the lineups and the packed restaurant, this seems like a very popular place. They offer patio eating, a bar area and standard table seating. We elected for the standard table seat which gave a really good central view of the restaurant. I saw a lot of reviews about the fusilli which I ordered and enjoyed. My wife had a delicious mussel pasta place and our friend ordered a clam pasta dish. There was a healthy portion of shellfish and everyone loved their dishes. One dish I haven't seen posted on Yelp reviews was the pork chop on cauliflower which I highly recommend. We ordered this dish and the pork chop was massive and cooked perfectly. I think it was the most impressive dish of the evening. Service was impeccable and super friendly. We'll definitely return the next time we're in Providence!

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in RI. Incredible when it comes to service, I love that the manager come over to say hi to every table. The food was delicious, high-quality Italian. What else? They have a valet. There's a quieter area upstairs for families. Great place! They know what they're doing.

Yelp
Service was fantastic! We had a wonderful server who checked in on us and was so enthusiastic. We had a little fumble with the water spilling over the lobster crepe, and when we asked for another one and said we would pay for it (since it was our fault), they remade it and didn't charge us for the second order. They also had to clean up the mess on the floor for us :( they handled it so quickly! Even though they didn't charge us, we tipped more than enough to cover the second plate of lobster crepe as well as the cleaning hassle :) Lobster crepe was soo good. I didn't care for the addition of sour cream on top but I loved how generous they were with the lobster stuffed inside the crepe with some mushrooms and ricotta that tasted so yummy. And the sauce too! Definitely very unique and delicious. Squid ink pasta was our favorite. Loved the creamy sauce that coated all the noodles, the generous amount of seafood. The breakfast platter with the thick cut bacon, sausage and sunny side up eggs were basic but delicious. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the crab cake Benedict - the crab cake was too floury and just not that tasty, but the eggs and sauce were perfect.

Yelp
Outstanding restaurant. I'm here on business (again) and I always try and dine here every trip. The food is superb and the service is wonderful. I enjoyed the Presto lunch - 3 course for $24. The front sliding doors were open to the beautiful weather! I had the Caesar salad to start, gnocchi with 4 cheeses and pink tomato sauce, and tiramisu (I took the dessert with me). Everything was outstanding - I should've just had the salad ...I was stuffed. Every visit is just a delight!

Yelp
I know the pastas almost look the same, We went heavy handed on the parm. The first is short rib gnocchi, The short rib was chefs kiss. However, the gnocchi was slightly overdone & the sauce could have used something to cut through the very acidic taste. The second pasta is fettuccine bolognese, this was the most flavorful Bolognese sauce. The appetizer we ordered was the fried calamari with spicy lemon aïoli. My only critique would be the aïoli sauce could use a little bit more spice. Other than that the seasoning on the calamari was delicious. Loved the fresh focaccia bread & fresh olive oil. Unfortunately, we ate the bread so fast I couldn't get a pic. The ambiance was giving summer in Italy. I loved the upstairs view they gave us. Bonus for the free Valet

Yelp
We came here on a Wednesday afternoon when the restaurant opened and we were the first customers at the restaurant. We each ordered the prix fix meals with a salad to start and a dessert to finish. There was also fresh braked bread, which was super warm and fresh. It had spices and Parmesan on it and it really was such savory bread (and the best part of the meal). I ordered the eggplant Parmesan and although I thought it was good, I thought the dish was a little more on the soggy side and lacked in flavor. I will say though that my partner thought the sauce I this dish was really good. I thought it was just fine. The waiter was super kind and attentive. The parking is a bit more difficult to find but we found some paid parking and were in and out in 1.5 hours. The ambiance is classy and the decor is nice and open, with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
Walked in for lunch after rush hours. Welcomed to the 2nd floor and assigned to window table. Staffs are friendly and warm . Menu are typical in this class of Italian restaurant. Ordered duck legs. Meat was tasty but a bit overcooked and dry not juicy.

Yelp
Awesome food, good ambiance, and fair prices. Perfect score for this go to location in Providence. In the heart of restaurants, this place is heads above many other local spots. Highly recommended

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! 5 stars for both food and service ( shout-out to our server Riley). Make sure to get a reservation beforehand as it is busy. I REALLY enjoyed everything I ate: - I got the calamari which was nice and crispy and the added banana peppers, cherry tomatoes, etc was a great combination - the squid ink lobster pasta, was delicious and out of the all the main pastas my group and i got, everyone agreed mine tasted the best (though all are good) - the bread pudding is A MUST, probably top 5 if not #1 bread putting I've ever had. The crust is crispy, but still maintains the soft and moistness inside, and the raisins add a nice chewy texture. only complaint is i wish the ice cream wasn't so melted

Yelp
what a lovely evening. absolute bliss lost track of time. the ambiance transports you somewhere else with the furniture selection and mood lighting and all of it really. our server Randy was so entertaining and hospitable. this place is probably the most wheelchair accessible on fed hill. then of course the food was delicious. they brought me gluten free rolls as the bread service and my friend the regular focaccia and olive oil. i didn't even have to ask, they just noticed the notation on my opentable profile. they substituted the pork ingredients without changing the taste of dishes. i ate every bite and am full without bloat. we sat drinking tea for a while afterwards and enjoyed the space. i have been here a few times in the past but this was my favorite visit so i needed to share!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurant for lunch on a Saturday. Immediately upon arriving, we were seated for lunch. There were both indoor and outdoor seating options (beautiful weather). The restaurant had a fun and welcoming atmosphere! Right after being sat, our waitress was prepared with water. Shortly after, she came back with hot bread and olive oil. We ordered off of the lunch menu: chicken parm sandwich and gnocchi alla forno w/salad and tiramisu. The gnocchi arrived blistering hot (hot I like food) and very flavorful. Overall a positive dining experience here

Yelp
Outstanding food and Service. Server Steven gave great service and was knowledgeable about the menu. Wife's pork chop was to dye for my 4 cheese Gnocchi excellent as well. In house bread made daily is deadly good. The asparagus app was delish. Gets busy even on a Thursday!! Great tasting sensation

Yelp
Amazing experience! Great ambience, decent cocktails, great food, decent price. We went on valentines day, and the service ran smoothly. Valet takes Venmo.

Yelp
Came here on a Monday evening for dinner and got seated right away. Unfortunately, they were out of quite a few things I wanted to try, including the duck and pizza. Started with the mussels, which were a bit overcooked but the sauce was good. Also got brussel sprouts, which was a bit too soft for my liking, and artichokes, which I enjoyed. We selected one of the specials - squid ink pasta with shrimp and zucchini and zucchini flowers. The pasta itself was very good but shrimp and zucchini were also overcooked. Ended the meal with tiramisu, which was sweet and yummy! Overall, this place was more like a 3.5/5 stars but rounding up as the prices were reasonable and service was good.

Yelp
My friends and I came to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. We had reservations for a table upstairs. It is a pretty restaurant and the staff accommodated when we added an extra person. Parking on this street on a weekend weeknight was not practical, so we all pulled into a parking lot. I don't think it was pricey. For appetizers, we shared the carpaccio di Manzo (4/5), calamari fritti (4/5), and burrata (4/5). I wish the burrata dish came with something to pair with like thin slices of bread. We ended using the free bread that was offered to eat with the burrata. For our entrees, we ordered anatra (cured duck confit) which was delicious - I thought the raviolis paired well with it. Spaghetti al Nero con Aragosta (black squid ink spaghetti with lobster (4/5) and Spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare (gulf shrimp, sea scallops, mussels, baby clams, octopus with spaghetti pasta) (4.5/5). I never wanted to say stop when the server was grating cheese on top of our pasta dishes. We paired our meal with yummy cocktails and wine of course. The staff was kind enough to bring out the cake and sing Happy Birthday to my friend. They provided us with plates and utensils for the cake as well. Overall, I enjoyed the semi-fancy ambiance, food was good, friendly staff, I would visit again if I was in the area and craving for Italian.

Yelp
Went as a group of 8 with reservations. We were promptly seated and the service was exceptional! The wine, appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all phenomenal! I don't think anyone ordered the same thing and we all commented on how good each other's dishes looked! I had the rigatoni, which is one of my favorite pastas, but not one I get all that often, so it was a nice treat. 12/10 would eat here again!!!

Yelp
Located in the Federal Hill section of Providence! Nate our server was friendly and knowledgeable. For starters he recommended the zucchini blossom stuffed with pesto and cheese as an appetizer! He hit the mark on this one. It's a wow! The fusilli entree may have even been better. That's how good it was. Would definitely come back if I'm back in Providence.

Yelp
This spot is a typical Italian restaurant. I will say compared to quality of food and service with the other spots on this strip, this place is the best bang for your buck. Breakfast, and dinner! Amazing Benedict and really well made pastas. Good selection of wines. Valet parking or street parking options but I really do enjoy coming here for dinner. I feel home when I am there and I enjoy the bread table on the floor.

Yelp
In from out of town and followed the advice of my fellow Yelpers. Was a little on the late side so we got take out. Called in the order, was repeated back multiple times, and nearly perfect. All double wrapped in plastic wrap. No spills when transporting and everything pretty hot when it got to the hotel. Inside during pick-up looks nice. Bustling. Would love to go back some time and sit and enjoy it all. Had a Caesar salad and some mixed greens one to start. The dressing I think is homemade on both. I didn't care for the dressing and the salads were fresh but sad. Not much going on for toppings and maybe a little different with dine in. For entrees we had the spaghetti, meatballs and Buratti, the mussels app, and the gluten free chicken parm. I really enjoyed the spaghetti and meatballs. My daughter and wife loved the mussels and chicken, but neither particularly loved their sauces. For dessert we tried the flourless chocolate cake and the cannoli trio. Both were good but the cannoli had a candied lemon rind on top that was a great way to end the meal. This experience is more a 3, but take out is tough and we still enjoyed everything. Rounding up towards the night we get to enjoy the full restaurant experience.

Yelp
This was our first time here, and this place was excellent! For an entree I was torn between gnocchi and the fusilli with meatballs. Our waitress, Hailey, convinced me to go with the fusilli, or as she described it, "spaghetti and meatballs 2.0". She couldn't have been more right. That pasta was amazing. Everything we had was amazing, even the cocktails. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Yelp
Wonderful service and we loved the super Tuscan wine we tried. Food was underwhelming and overpriced. Too much cream in everything, not authentic. The imported pistachio gelato is delicious!

Yelp
I recently came back to Massimo Restaurant with my brother and sister in law and had a different experience than the first time I came here. We had made a reservation for a Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm. We were seated quickly on the first floor. The waitress came over and introduced herself and asked if it was our first time or if we have been to Massimo before. She then said that the complimentary bread just came out of the oven and will be brought over. We ordered our appetizers, which was the Polpo alla Griglia - Charred Octopus, Gigante Beans, Tomato, Chorizo Mostarda and Cozze all' Arrabbiata - Farm Raised P.E.I. Mussels, Tomato Sea Broth, Spicy Calabrian Chillies, Garlic, Grilled Rustic Bread. The appetizers came out and we still did not get the complimentary bread. We wanted to ask our waitress, but she was no where to be found and no other staff. The Polpo alla Griglia was as delicious as I remember it to be. All the 3 pieces of charred octopus, beans, and chorizo was very tasty. The mussels were also very good and dipping the rustic bread in the tomato sea broth was so good. Finally, we were able to locate our waitress and she brought the bread over. Our main entrees were served. The waitress was nowhere to be seen when we wanted to get some plates since we were sharing the food. I waved down the buster and asked for plates. We had the Orecchiette con Cime di Rapa - Broccoli Rabe Pesto, Local Sausage, Garlic, EVOO, Pecorino Romano and Fusilli con Polpette e Burrata - House-made Meatballs, Narragansett Creamery Burrata, San Marzano Marinara. Both of these dishes were so delicious. The meatballs were big and very soft. Overall, the food was on point again. I just wished service was a lot better. Our waitress didn't ask us how it was going, how was the food, if we needed anything else, etc.

Yelp
I would have to say the highlight of my Rhode Island trip was dining at Massimo Restaurant. After reading about the restaurant and the chefs passion for homemade Italian dishes, my choice was simple. I arrive without a reservation. Not a problem sir, I'm seated close to the open window. The fall weather is perfect, it adds to my dining experience. I started with the calamari fritti. Don't let this dish fool you. It may look unassuming but it brings a little heat. Very very enjoyable, the calamari is cooked perfectly. As I order a second glass of Italian wine, the main course comes to me, Fettuccine with Shrimp. The homemade Fettuccine is mixed with an incredible sauce. Now add fresh shrimp? Oh my. Massimo Restaurant is not a typical red sauce joint. The chef is creating elegant and contemporary Italian dishes. At this point, I'm packed. My waiter tells me. I can't leave without trying the Homemade Tiramisu. How can I refuse? This dish is something my grandmother would have made. It was a terrific ending to an amazing meal. I Highly recommend Massimo Restaurant. Great Italian food in the heart of Providence.

Yelp
Cheesecake and soup were the stars of the show. Soup definitely hit the spot on a cold day. Bartender was definitely attentive and food came out quick but evenly spaced. The only negative was the pasta dish was very heavy on the pesto and oil.

Yelp
I loved everything about this place. The eggplant app was delicious as was the octopus in the tomato sauce with the beans. The pork chop was nothing short of spectacular, and a very large portion. My partner had fusili with meatballs and burrata. Our server (Mike with the tats) was excellent. Great menu and I can't wait to get back here!

Yelp
Amazing food, great ambiance, reasonable prices. We stopped in for their Monday night dinner special which is a great deal. We were celebrating a birthday too and the server did make the experience extra special. The food was all so amazing. It is a bonus that they have valet parking too! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
What a great experience! First of all, even though we had made advance reservations, my friend and I decided to sit at the bar instead. The bartender (I don't recall his name) was really great, super friendly and helpful but also gave us our space to catch up. We took advantage of the Happy Hour special of half price appetizers at the bar. We ordered 4 items from the appetizers menu to share and it was SO MUCH FOOD. We started with the octopus which was outstanding. The octopus itself was cooked perfectly, and the beans and their sauce were luscious and a bit spicy. 10/10 We also had the eggplant melanzane and the meatballs, which we had served together. It almost felt like an entire meal, and they really went so perfectly together. We finished with the fig and prosciutto pizza which we each only ate one piece and took the rest home as leftovers lol. It was also very delicious and a substantial portion. Along with our cocktails, our meal was extremely satisfying, and was exceptionally reasonable given the Happy Hour pricing! I would 100% come back to Massimo with or without taking advantage of that deal. The food was great and the staff was lovely!

Yelp
Federal Hill. My hubby's favorite place to eat because he's from RI. His fave pizza joint is around the corner, but I suggested this place instead. SCORE! We arrived at 11:30am and the place was almost full! Thankfully we had reservations. We were a little early, so we went to the bar for a couple Bloodies, and our table was ready minutes after we ordered, so the bartender brought them to our table. I ordered the scrambled eggs with truffle and a cheese that I don't recall, and hubby ordered the short rib hash. I've never had scrambled eggs so light and flavorful. Usually they are bouncing around on my plate and lack flavor. Hubby said his hash was really good. He ate half my bread to scoop up every last bit! Staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
What a terrific experience. We went here on a Wednesday night and sat at the bar. Justin was bartending and he made some terrific cocktails. We asked what was better, the Old fashioned or the Manhattan. He said they were both good just a little different. We tried one of each and he was spot on. Both were very good. We were trying to decide on what to eat and he gave us a few recommendations. Thankfully he told us we could easily split the pasta dishes or order smaller portions of them. We ordered the carbonara and the squid ink pasta with lobster. I can truly say this was the best carbonara I have had at any restaurant. Both dishes were rich and we were grateful we ordered the smaller portions. The house made focaccia was delicious and served with olives. If you want a really good meal and some friendly service, definitely give this place a try!

Yelp
Delicious Italian Food experience. Our Italian Exchange student said it's as the best food she has had in the US!
