"Master Bing serves up a northern Chinese street food treat right on “The Ave” in Seattle’s University District. Jianbing is a savory folded “crepe,” stuffed with a wide variety of fillings, often eaten with soy milk for breakfast but great any time of day as a snack. It typically includes a choice of protein, black bean paste, chile sauce, pickled mustard greens, green onions and cilantro—plus strips of fried cracker for additional texture. Spiced lamb and Peking duck are good choices, and you can pair your jianbing with hot and sour glass noodles to make it a meal." - Jay Friedman

The jianbing was prepared authentically with a perfectly crispy exterior and a soft, layered interior that created a wonderful texture in every bite. The fresh fillings, paired with a lot of protein choice, delivered an explosion of flavor that kept me coming back for more.

Google
Very delicious Chinese street food and drinks! I like the duck products here. Take-outs are packaged with beautiful paper bags. Clean and friendly environment.

Google
No frills go to spot for authentic jian bing which is so hard to find! Literally take the time to come here everytime im in seattle, if that says anything. So gas!!! Owners are nice, it’s a casual spot and will leave you feeling satisfied.

Google
Stopped by for a quick snack. The Peking duck rolls were so yummy. Definitely will come again.

Google
An 11-year-old ABC boy really loves the food at the restaurant, especially the duck blood vermicelli soup. While calling it spicy, he still added two extra servings of duck blood. The owner and the waitresses were super nice and accommodating. We’ll definitely bring him back next time!

Google
Ordered a take-out. I would not say the food is at the best level, but the service was very good and staff were nice.

Connie C

Google
Really good jian bing - so many options to choose from! I like the duck blood vermicelli soup too, although it’s a bit salty

We had high hopes for this place after trying Jianbing for the first time in Oregon. The initial taste was okay but afterwords we got food poisoning. We should have trusted the low reviews about cleanliness.

Yelp
Super nice service and yummy authentic food that brought me to my hometown of northern China. I was confused which one to get and the workers helped me understand how to order - I got the Peking duck with a Chinese donut add on (which seemed to be the most popular option!) and the food was rlly good! I definitely recommend have the Chinese donut inside to make it extra filling. The soy milk is probably some of the most authentic drinks I've gotten, delicately sweet, just how I like it. Lots of Chinese food in university village but this is a spot you won't want to miss. Jianbing is a popular streetfood in China and no other places sell it here! Prices were reasonable and the food was quite filling despite the size. Most people get to-go but there is a spot for dine-in service. There are a few tables and counter overlooking the bustling street outside.

Yelp
Got this order to go so didn't get to eat it fresh. Regardless, great portion for the price depending on what you get. Some meats are more expensive than the others. I got the new lamb one which was so delicious. Nicely meaty with thin thin slices but not stingy on meat. The crispy wonton cracker was soft by the time I got to eat it but some parts were still crispy so I reckon it would be crispier eaten immediately. Their mild spiciness is quite nice with a good kick. Though if you don't really eat spicy it may be a little too spicy. Also not overly salty and well flavored! Also tried a sip of their soymilk which was quite nice. The soybean flavor was prominent and the soymilk was sweetened.

Emelina W.

Yelp
Pricy but I like the flavor so I will still buy it. Many options to choose from. Very authentic Chinese food.

Ayana B.

Yelp
The jianbing is so good! Perfect for a quick savory and spicy snack or a meal if you get the combo! I love the attention to flavor and how there are multiple spices used not just chili to the max. The guy serving me was very nice and made sure I was comfortable. I wouldn't eat in especially with large groups, but it's perfect for on the go!

Audrey L.

Yelp
Great spot for jianbing! They have a lot of options, and make the jianbing to order right in front of you. I got the bbq pork jianbing and this was tasty. The bbq pork was good, although could have been a little more tender. And I really liked all the other fillings inside! If you need a quick snack or light meal, I would recommend Master Bing!

Carol L.

Yelp
Casual hidden gem in Udistrict for authentic Chinese street food! I love Jianbing and haven't had one in years, but the taste of Master Bing was just as authentic as I remember it. Jian bing is a type of Chinese pancake - crepe like dish with various savory fillings. It's crispy and flavorful and the perfect handheld snack or meal. You can fully customize your own Jian bing at Master Bing or pick one of the preset options. I went with the Sakura special and added spiced lamb to it. Additional filling options include bbq pork, Peking Duck, mushrooms, pickles, Chinese donut "youtiao", and more. I chose my spice level as mild, but you can go from no spice to extra spicy. It cost $13 and was plenty as a meal. Deliciously crispy and the lamb was very tender. Soymilk costs $3 and is nice and chilled. Delicately sweet but not overbearing. A perfect combo to go with your savory jianbing. There is ample seating and the ambiance is casual. You can order off a digital screen or directly with the staff. Please be patient with the staff as English is often not their first language. They also participate in a lot of food delivery apps such as hungry panda and fantuan.

Alice L.

Yelp
Ok this place has huge portions. I usually need to save half for breakfast/ lunch the next day. I like that you can add different toppings to suit your taste. The sauce is a little sweet so I prefer to treat it like breakfast/ lunch over dinner. Fillings of meat aren't the biggest portion. More on the dough/ crisp side. They make orders quickly. More of a takeout location, but there is seating inside. Owner is very kind and overheard them telling each other to take breaks when they skipped break. Yes, please take breaks!

Erin W.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in U District! You order off a screen, and they call you when your order is ready. I was amazed by the range of selection of jianbing that they offered (you can find their to-go menu here, https://www.ordertogo.com/restaurants/masterbing/mesh). Friendly staff. Due to space constraints, not too many tables available for you to sit at, but I guess people can always take to-go. Interior is bright and there is a huge poster wall that you can take a pic with. So glad that we could enjoy this delicious Chinese food here! Perfect for a quick bite snack or lunch!

Shu O.

Yelp
Very convenient breakfast/snack place near UW with good variety of meat and vegetarian items. I tried the Chinese donut jianbing which was tasty, the texture and flavors are good but was hoping for more filling. The soy milk was a good addition but on the sweeter side. The store itself is very simple - keep in mind there's no lock on the bathroom door.

Karan L.

Yelp
Now I came by this place for breakfast and it caught me off guard. The restaurant was open bright and early at 9am. I thought it was a lunch or dinner place but clearly we were mistaken. It's a small and hot restaurant. There are a few tables for seating but it's cool to see how they prepare the jianbing in front of us. They have breakfast discounts so you can get the popular jianbings for 7 or 8 dollars for breakfast, which is worth it imo, especially in this economy. These are not too filling but it's a nice light and soft and portable breakfast. I ordered the bbq pork with an extra egg. I think the extra egg is an essential addition for some more taste. I have had jianbing before and this place did not disappoint. Our food was ready within 10 mins, piping hot and ready to walk and eat with. There were truly piping hot tho, and we could not start digging in until about 10 mins later with continuously blowing on our food. It was nice, soft, flavorful, and crunchy. Would definitely come back for breakfast should I ever find myself in the Seattle area again. Definitely worth that breakfast price. The restaurant does get a bit hot and could use a bit of cleaning. We saw a spider hanging from the ceiling, but if you are just grabbing and going, I can't really complain. Jianbings were solid, do recommend getting the extra egg tho.

Ash S.

Yelp
I've been here twice and was disappointed both times. A year ago I figured we could cut them some slack with the soft opening, but it hasn't improved much since then. I was thrilled to have a jianbing place open up, but this place is overpriced and not very good. I don't mind the nearly entirely electronic user interface of ordering on the screen when you first walk in and then just waiting for it to be cooked, but the food is just really not that good. The toppings are dry/cold, the flavors aren't really there, and one of the bings came out soggy. I don't think we'll be back again.

Matthew S.

Yelp
Peking duck jiang bing! Delicious, handheld street food perfect after having some libations from a nearby bar. Food is made fresh in front of you, very hot and delicious. Probably not big enough for a meal, but a very filling snack.

Delilah ,.

Yelp
It was just okay, I got the crawfish and it's really nothing to write home about. I'd say that the price doesn't justify the portion either. It's self service and your number gets called out, there's seating inside and against the window.

Christine H.

Yelp
This was my first time trying a jian bing and I'm so glad I was introduced to it! It's a small local shop near University of Washington, so it would be a great place for students to stop for a quick bite. I tried the roasted duck and it didn't disappoint. It was crispy and had so much flavor with all of the ingredients. I also think the roasted duck tied the taste together with the saltiness. They work really quickly and the jian bing was piping hot when it's ready. Definitely really yummy and something to check out! They have a self-service kiosk to order the jian bing. There were only 2 workers, but they were very sweet and were working really hard. Come support this place and try their jian bings!

Helen T.

Yelp
This location is very close to the UW campus which is very convenient since it only took about 5 minutes for them to finish my order (non-rush hour). You can order at the self-serve kiosk and the items are really customizable. BBQ Pork (w/ Chinese Donut add on) 3.7/5: My bbq pork did come out a little dry (compared to the ones I usually eat) but the actual jianbing itself was very tasty! I really enjoyed the texture of the crunchy wontons with the flavors of the chili oil and pickled vegetables in addition to my protein. Overall, it was good and this rating is closer to a 4 star than it is to a 3 star. If I were to come back, I would definitely try out a different item!

Kyle W.

Yelp
I got the peking duck jianbing here ($13.99+tax) and despite the deceptively small size, it was very filling. There is crispy wonton skin to add an additional layer of crunchiness, and the amount of duck inside is fairly generous. The only small downside is that I tasted a little bit of foil as I was cutting the jianbing, but otherwise I really enjoyed my order. I wish there were more of these in general - the other one that was solid that I could think of was a food truck in Portland. This is overall a very good snack for 2 people, or if you want a filling meal, one is more than enough. Do be patient as each order is made to order, and the workers do a good job preparing the dish as aesthetically as possible!

Mia K.

Yelp
hi me and my mother went to get the duck rolls and we seen this man that works there step in the trash can and touch his face he had bloody boogers and stringy long greasy hair and was not in a hair net he touched the whole line of food no gloves no hand wash also did not know how to give my mother a refund for the food highly disappointed they need to work on cleanliness and costumer service

Wendi K.

Yelp
So tough to find jian bings around here so I am so glad this spot exists! One of my favorite street food snacks :) Tried the: -Peking Duck Bing ($13.99) -Mushroom Bing ($9.99) You can choose from 3 levels of spice, and add toppings and sides (fries). They were fresh and I loved that they were light and had nice crunchy wafers inside! Order on a pad, limited seating. Located in downtown U-District.

Francesca S.

Yelp
The only place in Seattle to sells Jian Bing! One of my favorite Chinese street foods, I highly recommend this place to check out!! I got their Peking Duck and Spicy Beef jian bing and added dough sticks (+$2 each) to both of them. I really enjoy this because of all of the different textures: - the soft egg exterior - the crunchy fried wontons - the pillowy dough sticks - the juicy and tender meat - the fresh green onions - the saucy sauce (*: It is definitely on the pricier side tho; other places I've tried around the U.S. average around $6 because it is more of a snack than a meal, but this place comes out to almost $16 each. Anyways, def check this place out to try street food from around the world!

Tony C.

Yelp
Overall not bad! The flavor profile and the options were great! Decently authentic and clean. Love that the crisps were fresh and did not taste of old oil. Also! They are running a special! One dollar for classic. Downsides were the wait time, the dough was still a little undercooked, and a little on the sweet side.

Wang L.

Yelp
The lamb pancake is ok The duck blood soup is quite nanjing style Very strong duck flavor

Rebecca Q.

Yelp
Extremely authentic and nostalgic because bing spots around here are few and far between. Crispy, bursting with flavor, and such a nice and friendly staff!

Jane W.

Yelp
This was quite the nostalgia trip! I remember eating jian bing as a popular street food in Beijing as a kid and it was so exciting watching them make it in front of you and then biting into the piping hot wrap. So I felt the same excitement when I was able to do the same at Master Bing here in the States! You get to watch them make the Bing in front of you and they have the OG flavors and a bunch of novel new ones like with different kinds of meat. They're super fast and the service was great. The store was clean with a few seating options. My only con was that the prices were a bit high but that's mostly because we're in Seattle. The high prices is on par with anywhere else. Highly recommend you check them out to taste some authentic Chinese street food!

Amy L.

Yelp
Quick and no fluff service. Is delicious, almost like junk food. They have a great breakfast deal where you can get a jianbing with a drink for only 9.99 until 11am. There are a few seating spots inside, but it's more of a to-go place. Their fried small buns are also surprisingly good (they have soup inside so be careful!)

Ting A.

Yelp
Stop by for a quick bite of tasty jianbing. Several filling options are offered for this classic Chinese street food, including vegetarian choices like youtiao (油條), hot and sour shredded potatoes (酸辣土豆丝), and mushroom (蘑菇). Rice and noodle dishes along with sides are served here too. ----- Fried Chicken Jianbing (香酥鸡柳煎餅) ($10.99). On the heavier side, but a solid jianbing filling enough for a meal. The fried chicken was a bit tough and dry. The crispy fried crackers (薄脆) gave a nice crunch. I thought the highlight was the combination of flavor with the chili sauce and the pickles. For spiciness level, hot gave a satisfying heat. ----- Chinese Chive Pocket (韭菜盒子): comes with three ($9.99). This side dish took a few minutes to prepare, but was piping hot with a juicy chive filling. Skin outside was pan-fried to a good crispiness. ----- Orders are placed on a kiosk and then served in to-go form. Inside has a couple of tables and a bar counter.

Carolyn Z.

Yelp
the jianbing was super fresh (made on the spot), and the portions were really big! i was so pleasantly surprised, especially because the last time i had a jianbing was back in china. i added bbq pork in my original jianbing, but it was already so jam-packed with flavor that it wasn't even necessary. i think i definitely want to try it with the meat floss next time! the original jianbing was $8.99, and the bbq pork was an extra $3.00. in total i paid around $14 which is pretty pricey for a jianbing (you can get it in china for ~$4), but once i bit into the hot, flavorful bing, i forgot about the price. in my opinion, $8.99 for the jianbing is reasonable as the portions are huge, but it's definitely not worth it to add bbq pork or any other meat.

Jeff A.

Yelp
Yo! This is so good!!!!!!!!! It's like crepes and pizza and Chinese food and French fries all in one. Amazing flavor.

Timothy L.

Yelp
Pretty decent spot for jianbing. I absolutely love jianbing and there are very few spots in the Seattle area that offer it. I tried the peking duck jianbing which was flavorful and the right crisp to it. The interior and designs were also pretty cool too. I do wish that the servers were a bit friendlier though.

William L.

Yelp
I came and visited during their soft opening (months after they've already been opened?) and the experience was very underwhelming. When you enter, there's no staff in the store besides the cooks that ignore customers and focus on making orders. This would be fine to me if the place was already an established restaurant and wasn't in an opening state. Food-wise, I was excited to have jianbing in Seattle but I thought it was underwhelming and overpriced. They have a good assortment of options, but I would not come back again.

Kelly P.

Yelp
i got the bbq pork jianbing and it was delicious. everything works so well together and i love the crispy wonton skin addition. service is pretty quick and they are very nice as well! great to grab on the go

Ann N.

Yelp
we got the peking duck jian bing. the textures were delicious and the taste was super flavorful. my only thing is that the duck was very fatty and eventually the flavors became overwhelming. we also got the fried chicken jian bing which was extremely delicious. i would go back

S L.

Yelp
Was craving Chinese breakfast; their Jianbing hit just the spot. Friendly staff and delicious food!

Harley M.

Yelp
I'm was so happy to find a local jianbing place in the u district! The place is small with a self serve kiosk and lots of take out and UberEats/DoorDash orders. Not too much seating inside. The jianbings come in around $10-13 each and have filling options like bbq pork, fried chicken, beef, Chinese donut (you tiao). You can customize them to add/subtract toppings, spicy level, etc. It was a great portion size for lunch and delicious.

Mingtianfang L.

Yelp
Amazing food here! The duck soup tastes so fresh! Price is fair, environment is good.

Marissa E.

Yelp
Super tasty! A really good quick lunch or snack item that is good to take to go. You order and pay at the iPad, and then they'll call your number when ready. I got the bbq pork bing and it was really good! Want to try the Peking duck one next!

Susan W.

Yelp
Came back again and ordered some more food! They do tend to be busy in the morning as folks wake up to grab breakfast, so our order was late by 20 min+, but it was still worth the wait. Finally grabbed some photos this time of the roast duck jianbing and the original jianbing guozi. We also got the quail eggs + a serving of the fried crullers.

Lynn W.

Yelp
These jianbing are exactly like the ones I had in Shanghai - maybe better because you can easily customize without having to be fluent in Chinese. A jainbing is kind of like a savory crepe. There's a crepe, then a thin layer of egg. Then some of the sauce that reminds me of hoisin sauce - savory but a tiny bit sweet. And then there is a fried crispy wonton strip in it. So it is hot, soft, savory, a little sweet, and crispy all in one. You can also add proteins such as Peking duck, chicken, tempura shrimp, and maybe a vegetarian option. I get either the classic with the double wonton crisp or a Peking duck one - depending on how much protein I need. Either way, it makes for a big meal for one. I probably should have shared with someone. Come in and order on the iPad. Makes it easy to make it spicy or remove cilantro, etc. grab your ticket and then they'll call your number when yours is ready. The staff aren't overly friendly but they aren't rude. They are just focused on making the yummy food and stay efficient. I don't need more than that. I will be back (have already been here 3 times in 2 weeks).

Steph F.

Yelp
I was in Seattle visiting with the family and stumbled upon this place on Yelp. I haven't had a good jian bing since I bought one from one of the street carts in Portland a couple of years back. The ones here did not even come close. First, they were over priced for what we got. The taste was plain and underwhelming. I ordered one with a Chinese doughnut and shredded pork. My husband ordered the one with duck and he was grossed out when the duck pieces inside were still cold. It's not intuitive that you need to order from the iPad at the front and the people working there don't say anything when you enter. Maybe they still need to work out the kinks during their soft opening?

J C.

Yelp
Got the spiced lamb jianbing. SO SO GOOD! The one working was happy to help me even though it was 10 minutes to closing. It was ready in less than 5 minutes! Highly recommend and will be coming back!!

Rachel Y.

Yelp
Pretty authentic. The Chinese sausage choice is less salty than the American sausage. Medium spiciness is a bit salty. I'd probably go with mild next time not because of the spice but salt. Highly recommend this place over

Jen A.

Yelp
Delicious crepes, my favorite is the spicy crawfish with the crispy thing in the middle. I'm craving for some now!

Sabrina C.

Yelp
This is my first time having a jianbing and I really enjoyed them! I tried the Peking duck (medium spice) and shredded beef (mild spice) jianbings. I thought they were both very tasty although the spice level didn't seem to make a difference. I ended up eating them a few hours after I got them so it's hard to speak to the texture but it was still very good and I imagine the wonton piece adds a nice crunchy contrast. There isn't a ton of filling inside so it's on the pricier side for what you get, but I would def eat here again.

Eleanor W.

Yelp
Was craving the Beijing street food of my childhood one day so stepped into this hole in the wall. We ordered a beef jian bing as well as a sausage flavored one-- extra crispy. The portion was not snack sized as expected but large and very filling. While it was tasty, it wasn't exactly authentic and was rather overpriced. Would definitely eat it again but wouldn't go out of my way to get one

Kathy Z.

Yelp
The food is delicious. I got mild, but it was a little spicy. They have a cute seating area.

Thomas Z.

Yelp
Ordered 5 different kinds of bing. Still feel this place is missing something to be 5 stars but I'll give it the benefit of doubt. All 5 kinds were great and exceeded expectations (I thought I'd never eat good bing outside of Cali or NYC). Definitely worth another trip, my fav was the you tiao bing.

Meeko L.

Yelp
The first time to eat such delicious jianbing. breakfast have special price $9.99, plus free drinks-[强][强][强]super worth! I will come back very day!

Bruce M.

Yelp
I'm giving them 5 stars because the food is fantastic and the only real bing place in Seattle. Service is excellent, particularly if you pre/order thru the web site.

Paul F.

Yelp
Food was great. We had the original with green onions no spice my wife and two kids liked that one. We also got Chinese donut with mild spice me and my wife liked this one but my kids are soft and don't like spicy food and by spicy I mean anything with flavor lol. We also got a bacon no spice that was good too. Lastly a peking duck as recommended by staff. It was very good we liked it a lot. Staff was super friendly even helped my second grader with her Chinese and was above and beyond with talking to her. So super friendly and great food, other than the prices that come with the U district location. Over all worth the trip.

Tony D.

Yelp
The food looked great in photos and the reviews looked promising so I figured it's worth trying out. I was wrong. I felt like they robbed me for what they gave me for $17. I ordered the peking duck jianbing. I don't know if I should be glad or disappointed that there was a minuscule amount of duck meat in it. Between the discoloration of the duck meat and its texture of dry jerky, it's safe to assume the meat has been sitting out for a while. On top of that, the dough stick was practically just a grease sponge. If you want to save yourself from a disappointing meal, don't come here.
