"Mastro’s Ocean Club quite literally survived the January 2025 wildfires though dozens of structures within its vicinity were tragically burned down. Taking a hiatus for a few months before reopening in May 2025, the classy seaside restaurant has returned with stellar steaks (the A5 wagyu from Miyazaki or the dry-aged bone-in rib-eye are the ones to get), crisp wedge salads topped with ample bacon, and Japanese lounge-style sashimi. The views are frankly incredible and nearly unmatched in Southern California, with a beachside vista that only gets better as the sun sets. Waves crash just a few feet from most of the tables, giving one the sensation of floating over the Pacific." - Eater Staff
"At this point, this Mastro’s locations might be even more famous than its sister spot in Beverly Hills, given the pristine views of the Pacific Coast. As with other Ocean Club locations, there’s a bit more of a focus on seafood towers and fish, though steak fans will find plenty to enjoy as well. Skip the lobster macaroni and cheese, but be sure to get an order of the tremendously rich butter cake for dessert." - Eater Staff
"Some nights you need to bring out the big guns, and on those nights, you drive down PCH to Mastro’s. Yes it’s a steakhouse, and yes it’s a chain, but somehow that doesn’t matter when you’re staring at the ocean and eating a steak that costs more than your monthly coffee budget. Mastro’s is all about the experience, and it more than delivers." - jess basser sanders, amy clark, brant cox
"Perfect For: Parents Who Iron Their Jeans The term “business casual” was practically invented for your parents, who haven’t worn anything more casual than crisp jeans since 1986. Keep mom and dad in their comfort zone and take them to a steakhouse with a view: Mastro’s. There are white tablecloths and a giant bone-in rib-eye on the menu, but there’s also a TV on the wall to keep your brother occupied. Basically everyone is happy. Order a martini, take in the ocean view, and eat a bunch of steak to celebrate officially being an adult." - jess basser sanders, brant cox
" If a classic steakhouse with live music and a view sounds like your speed, it doesn’t get much better than Mastro’s in Malibu. Most nights around 6pm, you’ll find someone singing R&B covers while playing the piano by the bar. Order a martini, take in the ocean view, and eat steak like you’re celebrating an imaginary birthday. " - brant cox, sylvio martins
