Matchbox’s New Penn Quarter Location Opens This Week - Eater DC

"There’s about to be a new Matchbox in the neighborhood in Penn Quarter. Earlier this spring, the homegrown pizza chain vacated the Chinatown location on H Street where it originally got its start 10 years ago in favor of a new location nearby. Now Matchbox is readying for a Wednesday, July 3 opening at 3 p.m. — just three blocks over at 750 E Street NW in a building that’s on the National Register of Historic Places. This new Penn Quarter space will boast 125 seats inside and a 28-seat sidewalk patio, with a design from Streetsense. Caps fans will find plenty of TVs and seating for game watches at the bar, and there’s a pizza bar too with a prime view of the custom pizza oven. Exposed tin ceilings, a mural, wood tabletops and leather banquettes, and old photos as decor contribute to the space’s cozy, lived-in feel. Like the new Silver Spring location, this outpost will have dedicated lunch and dinner menus, with daytime dishes like jumbo lump crab cake with red pepper remoulade, Old Bay fries, and coleslaw. Expect to find wood-fired pizzas topped with combos like crispy pork belly, sweet chili barbecue sauce, Spanish onions, mozzarella, and cilantro. Weekend brunches will include bottomless Bloody Marys and mimosas and dishes like blueberry muffin French toast or Bloody Mary burgers. Cocktails from Brian McGahey will debut at this location first, like a Honey Pie Punch with Cruzan light rum, lime, orange, pineapple, and pineapple spiced syrup. This isn’t the only opening Matchbox is working on at the moment: a restaurant in Bethesda is still on track for a summer debut, while a Reston location is slated for early 2020. These are part of the chain’s overall plan for smaller, more intimate neighborhood restaurants instead of sprawling flagships. Hours for Matchbox’s 750 E Street NW restaurant will run from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. Brunch will be served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and find a weekday happy hour from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m." - Adele Chapin

I had a wonderful experience at Matchbox brunch! From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing. Bairon’s service was exceptional — he made us feel genuinely cared for — and the manager, Ty, was incredibly accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious! You definitely get more bang for your buck here. My favorites were the chicken and waffles and the espresso martini — both were flavorful, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. I also love the addition of the breakfast buffet — such a great option! It’s clear that this place values both quality and hospitality. I’m already looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommend — 10 out of 10!

We celebrated my daughter’s 21st birthday here. The service was mediocre I think a bit overwhelming for our waitress. She was sort of rushing us to order , and lacked in giving condiments. The food was actually good. The atmosphere was very modern with a nice bar area. Just be mindful of the gratuities they charge if you’re not a large party. I had to notify a manger which she rectified the situation. The seating is a little tight. Overall the food is cooked to order, and the waitress lacked in complimentary water, bread etc

Let’s get into it: Matchbox Silver Spring. So… the crowd? Very specific demographic — if you know, you know. Ain’t nothing wrong with it, just setting the scene. They had a DJ on deck, but let’s be real — it was giving playlist energy. If you’re looking for a light turn-up with brunch vibes, this might be your scene. The aesthetics? Cute enough. Not jaw-dropping, but not dusty either. Surprisingly, not a lot of young folks. The aunties, uncs, and even a couple glam-mas were out and about, looking serious and ready for a time. Now let’s talk service. I wanted to give it A1, but it’s giving strong A2 — friendly, yes, but observant? Not so much. Like… utensils? Condiments? Hot sauce? Pancakes came out and we were raw dogging them. I’m just saying, a brunch without syrup is a crime. After one order the service waiter had fully disappeared — full-on magic show, vanishing acts part 2. If you’ve seen the movie, you get it. Okay, onto the food. I went for the unlimited brunch because I believe in giving y’all the full picture. First up: catfish and grits — catfish nugget strips was fried hard (we love that), cheesy grits were aight. Chicken and waffles? Solid. The waffle halves were tasty and the chicken skins was crispy. Shrimp and grits? Cool, not heavily seasoned, just… neutral. Then came the pizza — think Little Caesar’s cousin that went to brunch school. Not bad. The hamburger sliders? A meh. Tasted like somebody’s unc fired up the grill and got a lil’ bougie with it. I wasn’t mad. Bottomless drinks were fine — flavorful, but could’ve used a stronger pour. Overall? I’d say it was a medium-fun experience. A smooth “okay” with some moments, but nothing that’ll have me rushing back. Go for the vibes, manage your expectations, and bring your own hot sauce just in case. 😌🍽️🥂

Great experience, once we got a waiter. We were waiting for a waiter to greet us for about 15 mins before I got ahold of someone. She let us know we were seated without being given a waiter. So she just served us. She was really nice , gave us good recommendations. All the food was good & a good size so you wouldn’t get full except the grits weren’t my fav & the mimosa tower was worth it ! The DJ was good

I went to matchbox on a Saturday afternoon to try their brunch buffet. It was great and even though we had to wait 45 mins to a hour for a table but it was worth it. It was $35/person and they had a lot of great selections. We tried the shrimp and grits, the American Breakfast and the mini burger sliders. Everything was soooooo yummy and they also have a DJ which made the environment so lively. I will be returning again to try a lot of different foods. Thank you matchbox ♥️☺️

Matchbox369 Brunch = Vibes + Flavor + Top-Tier Service 🎉♋️Sooo good we had to run it back!!! Had an amazing pre-birthday brunch at @matchbox Matchbox369 in Silver Spring! The vibe is stylish and relaxed—perfect for catching up with friends or a weekend treat. Service was exceptional; the staff was welcoming, attentive, and had the food rolling out fast once our 2hr limit started when we sat down. The food? Absolute chef’s kiss. From the crispy chicken & waffles to the rich shrimp & grits, and the show stopper the stuffed French toast every dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. The cocktails were on point too—especially the Strawberry 🍓 Margarita. Heads up: brunch has a 2-hour time limit, and reservations are strongly encouraged (this place gets busy—and for good reason!). Highly recommend. We’ll definitely be back! #maryland #silverspring #brunch #birthdayvibes🥳 #cancergang♋️ #pickyfoodieapproved

Brunch was really good. Lex is a great bartender. Very personable. The spinach dip is one of my favorites on the menu. The shrimp and greats was very savory. And the pancakes are so delicious.

If you were looking for confirmation on where to go for brunch, you’ve found your review. Unlimited Brunch At Matchbox in Downtown Silver Spring (that’s where I went, but there’s other locations that have brunch as well). This was my second time in a month going for brunch because it is SO WORTH IT. The DJ was phenomenal, Leayrohn played the best brunch music, people were dancing through the doors, I even got his IG before I left. Bairon our waiter was just as attentive and cool as ever, a really great example of what customer service should look like. My son was with me, who is graduating in 2 weeks and he really enjoyed our brunch date. I met both managers, Ty and Jim when Bairon told me that the patio area could be reserved for large parties, I had to find out more because a graduation brunch would be wonderful. Both managers provided me with information and let me know I could contact them with any further questions regarding large party reservations. Not only is the area nice, but DTSS is really a great place for a day/ night out. The patio area is nice in general, but so is the entire restaurant. It’s just a wonderful place for casual dining. Now to the brunch The food was AMAZING!! I cannot stop talking about it and recommending visiting for the brunch deal. Make sure you have reservations because space does fill up fast. The stuffed French toast is delicious and the variations of dishes with grits are great! They also have a little section with popcorn and cotton candy which is such a cute touch. Here is what we ordered: * Catfish & grits * Shrimp & grits * Chicken & Waffles * Stuffed French Toast * 3.6.9 Burgers * Chicken Wings * Blueberry Lemon Pancakes * Chicken Fettuccine * Pizza * Espresso Martini * Strawberry Margarita $38 per person $14 for kids under 10 There is ample parking in downtown silver spring via parking garages which are meter based payment. It’s a very nice area for dining at anytime. I will be having brunch again at Matchbox.

Yelp
Our visit started off a bit wrong. We arrived as a party of three all seniors and two of which were disabled and kindly requested indoor seating. Unfortunately, we were told indoor tables require a reservation, which we weren't aware of. Despite explaining we were traveling and it was our first time visiting, the host desk insisted on seating us outside in the direct sun and even suggested we try other restaurants in the area. Disappointed but unable to walk further due to mobility concerns, we agreed to take an outdoor table - only to find it hadn't even been cleaned. Thankfully, everything turned around when our waitress, Xiana, stepped in. She immediately offered to move us indoors (we later found out she'd be our server regardless), and from that point on, the service was outstanding. Xiana was attentive, fast, thoughtful, and truly made us feel welcomed and cared for. She's the reason this review is positive at all. Honestly, she should be in charge of customer service training for the whole team. If you're planning to visit, make a reservation for indoor seating and request to sit in Xiana's section. She's a gem. Oh yeah...Food great, drinks great! Thanks Xiana for your professionalism.

Yelp
Went to matchbox (Silver Spring) Sunday at 2:15. For a start, the music was so loud inside (pushing past 80 decibels!) I could barely communciate with the host(ess). Had to be sat outside, as inside would have been impossible to hear/talk without shouting. (Strike 1) Service was SLOW. The bar was the issue; we got our appetizers before we got our drinks! (Strike 2) We didn't get drinks for close to 30 minutes after ordering. (I ordered my 2nd when he brought the 1st.) I felt bad for the waiter. The food itself was decent; the spinach & artichoke dip was good, and the Buffalo wings were spicy, if a little skimpy. Lastly, when we arrived, I told them I had a reservation (via OpenTable), which they acknowledged, but I later got an email from OpenTable asking why I missed the reservation. They didn't click the button to let OpenTable know I was there. (Strike 3) Next time I'm trying Miss Toya's Creole House next door, or going to the Rockville matchbox.

Yelp
I can't remember the last time I gave five stars to a restaurant on a first visit. I thought I had been here before, but once I arrived, I realized I hadn't. I came for brunch this past Sunday for my best friend's birthday, and I'm so glad she picked this spot! The food was amazing. Service could've been better since they were slow with water and clearing tables but the food more than made up for it. They offer unlimited brunch with shareable plates. I ordered the shrimp and grits and loved that it came with turkey sausage and no pork. It wasn't as hot as I like, but still delicious. The peaches and cream waffles were very indulgent. Ask for toppings on the side or they'll get soggy. I still enjoyed them so much I had to stop myself from finishing the whole thing. The breakfast potatoes were great with fresh onions and peppers and a perfect crunch. I also tried the lemon blueberry pancakes after eyeing another's plate. I asked for toppings on the side and was glad I did because the top pancake was crispy and amazing on its own. The warm maple butter was so good I wanted to dip everything in it. I went with tea, but they have a big drink menu including a mimosa tower, which my friend got. A DJ was playing, people were dancing, and the vibe was perfect. I definitely want to come back. I was full but still wanted to try more. Just don't drink too much water or overdo it on the carbs too avoid my mistake but enjoy yourself to the fullest.

Yelp
I don't know where to start with this location. The outdoor seating overlooking the downtown area. The DJ inside setting the Sunday brunch mood with old school R&B. Wait, I know. It's the unlimited brunch by far. Our server told us to go crazy and that's exactly what we did. We kept asking just to make sure, but yes, you can order EVERYTHING on the brunch menu as many times as you want for 2 hours. All for a mind blowing price of $38 per person. You want an unlimited mimosa, lemon drop or espresso martini? $25 per person! The quality you receive at such an astounding price is unmatched here. Now for the food. The hits: Blueberry Lemon Pancakes Seafood Scramble Shrimp and Grits Peaches and Cream Pepperoni Pizza Old Bay Wings Strawberry Lemon Drop Martini Could have been better, needed seasoning: Catfish and Grits Fried Chicken Stuffed French Toast was amazing flavor wise, but the bread was too hard on the edges. Mini burgers were more bread than burger, but the meat was cooked well. I can't speak for other locations, but Silver Spring has set the standard for me.

Yelp
I gave Matchbox's unlimited brunch a try last month (May 2025)... IT. WAS. GREAT!! Be sure to come on an empty stomach so you can eat your monies worth, haha. I came here with a few friends and we ordered a variety of dishes so we could try different things. We received complimentary biscuits (they were light, fluffy, and tasty) and ordered a lot of food off the meny. My favorite item was the stuffed French toast. The strawberries weren't the freshest, but still... that dish was SO DELICIOUS! I had the standard eggs, potatoes, and turkey sausage and they were cool... it's your standard breakfast. Nothing fancy needed. The waffles with the peaches were good as well, but once I tried the French toast? Oh, it was over for everything else! Actually, let me correct that... the old bay wings were bangin' too!! You know how sometimes you order wings at a restaurant and they are soggy or maybe they taste a lil freezer burned or something? There was none of that with the old bay wings... they were delightfully crisp and full of that old bay flavor. The old bay wings and stuffed French toast were my absolute faves!! If you're coming to hear the DJ, please note that he arrived around noon. We came at 10:00am and sat at the bar and left not too long after the DJ came. He also took requests, so that's nice if there's a song you want to hear while you're there. One thing I really loved about their brunch is that they allow you to take it to go (#WHERETHEYDOTHATAT??). I haven't experienced an unlimited brunch where they allow you to take what you didn't finish. I happily boxed up my leftovers. Sad to say, I fell ill to food poisoning from another restaurant so I didn't get to enjoy my leftovers... but don't worry. I'll be back!

Yelp
One of the best brunch bargains in town. You can't beat a 9am to 5pm brunch on the weekends. Treat yourself. The chicken and waffles, biscuits, catfish and grits were my favorites. Sliders were also good. I was too stuffed to have pizza, but the ambiance was inviting. The customer service was efficient. I would also recommend, making a reservation.

Yelp
Went for brunch on a Saturday afternoon, which was a mistake on its own because it was highly crowded and the DJ/music inside, you can't even hear yourself think yet alone talk with other people. Things got Worse with service. We asked to be moved inside due to excessive heat outside, our server said she would let someone know to take care of us since She only serves outside. Literally forgotten for 1.5 hours, not even water to drink. We asked a server who was walking by (the one who was supposed to take care of us) he was extremely rude (most likely angry we got added to his service). We asked for the manager, didn't care much. We had to leave without finishing our course/food. It was only 2 of us. The little food we eat, not good at all. Do yourself a favor and don't go here

Yelp
Service After attending the parade, we stopped by Matchbox for brunch. We were seated quickly, but it took a little while for the waiter to attend to us. Once prompted, they came over and offered helpful recommendations. Taste On the waiter's suggestion, we tried the catfish and grits as well as the huevos rancheros. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and came out quickly. They were so good, we found ourselves wanting more! Ambiance Matchbox is a great spot for both small and large groups. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for brunch. Its location is also convenient for exploring the nearby shopping area after your meal. Recommendation With its flavorful dishes, reasonable prices, and great location, Matchbox is an excellent choice for brunch. I'll definitely be back to try more from the menu!

Yelp
OMGoodness! So, some friends planned to meet up for a birthday celebration. When I got there, I could hear the music from outside, saw a crowd waiting, then made my way to the front and found my tribe. They were seated and had already ordered. So I sat down and started eating. They'd already ordered from the all you can eat menu and the food and drinks were flowing! Everything was delicious, the food was served hot, the service was timely, the wait staff were kind and efficient, the music/DJ were fire, and we had an all around great time! I will be back!

Yelp
We had visited several Matchboxes and always appreciated their extensive menu and atmosphere. However, this experience was different and left us really disappointed and skeptical of visiting any future Matchbox. Service was awful and made the entire dining experience stressful. We constantly had to remind our waitress of our orders, it took nearly 40 minutes for our drinks to arrive, and our orders came out at different intervals. When our orders arrived, it would come from another staff member who would just shout the order over and over until someone grabbed it from him. The food was good and we did appreciate the something for everyone options - salads, pizzas, sandwiches, and dessert options. However, the terrible service still certainly cause us to go elsewhere.

Yelp
Nice waitress. Terrible cold food. Cold stale fries, expensive meh pizza, overpriced cold burger.

Yelp
Decent food with subpar service. I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to watch football. I sat at the bar for 10 minutes without service until I stared down the bartender. I could tell everyone was having the same experience. It wasn't very busy and there were less than 8 people at the bar but she was making drinks for the entire restaurant. I had the fig and prosciutto pizza which was okay. Just okay. I also had a gin cocktail that wasn't good. Another disappointing restaurant taking up space in great real estate. I just want better for downtown silver spring.

Yelp
Breakfast Brunch for New Years. Convent location from the Marriott and Parking garage. Enjoyed the All American breakfast with 3 eggs, French toast, potatoes and bacon. My wife had waffle and chicken which was also very tasty. Nice set up and good service.

Yelp
Matchbox Silver Speings was wonderful. Brunch on Sat with my sis & my cousin. Food was hot & very good. Our server Xiana was attentive, thorough & very friendly!!

Yelp
I went to brunch for the second time at this Matchbox location. My server was Xiana. She was wonderful. She was attentive and very accommodating. No matter what we asked for, she got it with pleasure. Thank you Xiana for making our experience GREAT!

Yelp
Okay so the vibes are 100% the DJ is lit . The food is decent they are BIG portions so you will get full quick. Their "syrup " is like oily so it was not good. The drinks are SO watered down and im a lightweight so that says a lot . I had 2 mimosas and 2 martinis and I didn't feel much. One PLUS is you can take home food you didn't finish . I probably would not come here again because I don't think the bottomless drinks are worth it but I may try a different location hoping the bartender is a little better I give a 2.5/5

Yelp
Oh my Waffle! This place was not packed for brunch and I'm not sure why! This is an amazing place to brunch and if you haven't been, GO! Everything was GOOD! The Waffle was to die for! Will be back to brunch. Great service too!

Yelp
The only downside to this experience was the traffic to get there. The parking was a snap in the Wayne St Garage with a very short walk to the restaurant. We went on a Tuesday night so there was no wait. Our server MayLan was great! She was fun and knew the menu well. She served as bartender and made our drinks perfectly. Jalapeño Margarita and a Spicy caramel lemonade. We then had our food tapa style. Everything was delicious...spinach and artichoke dip followed by street corn followed by bacon Blanc flatbread. We feel in love and Joe to be back soon.

Yelp
The food was excellent. The chicken and waffles was one of the best I've ever had. I tasted the shrimp and grits and that was surprisingly flavorful with just the right amount of southern kick. Chef Claudia has made a fan out of me and her chicken and waffles. The only reason this wasn't a 5 star review was because of the service. The wings I ordered were incorrect, I sent them back only to get my appetizer as we are about to pay and leave. Our server felt very unwelcoming, maybe they had a bad day? I'm not sure but it just seemed like they didn't want to be here today.

Lori P.

Yelp
We came in for Father's Day. The waitress gave us the brunch menu which cost 42.00 instead of explaining there was an option. It wasn't until I asked the waitress and she still wasn't clear. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The grits were cold. The waitress took it back and gave me Luke warm grits. She never apologized for the mishap. She just stated did I want something else and moved on. I'm very disappointed. This is my second time here. I had a pleasant visit the first time. Needless to say, I Won't be coming back.

PrettiC P.

Yelp
The food was delicious, service was prompt and super friendly. Nice ambiance and great music! My family and I had no reservations and waited less than 5 minutes for our table to be cleaned and seated. All of our dishes were fresh and delicious!! 10/10 DEFINITELY recommend!! (We tried pretty much everything on the menu minus the pizzas)

Yelp
Came in on a Tuesday for an early happy hour and this place did not disappoint. IThe ambiance was good , service was great ( my bartender was cool and held great convos ) and my pizza DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Definitely would be back

Yelp
The service, the food, and the location of this Matchbox all deserve an A+. The menu choices are awesome. You pretty much can't go wrong with anything you select. But, the pizza, brussel sprouts, and cornbread are three of my favorites. The ambiance is conducive to a family outing, girls/guys meet-up, or date night. Stop in before or after a good movie or some retail therapy. Happy eating.

Came here for an early weekday dinner with a friend who was staying nearby. They had both indoor and outdoor seating, and we got a comfortable booth inside. Waitress was super friendly, but the food was mediocre. The crab dip to start was pretty good. While my white pizza wasn't bad, it wasn't great- fairly dry. My friend's crab cake sandwich was also fine. However, the waitress made sure our drinks were full and was very enthusiastic, and had no issues splitting our check. Overall, we had a decent experience, even if the food was not memorable.

Yelp
Pretty easy, breezy brunch that hit the spot. First, I have stay that I really loved the layout of Matchbox; the restaurant is quite nice with a huge bar. Although our service got off to a slow start, our bartender was great and really took care of us. I think the slow start happened because we arrived a few minutes after the restaurant opened, and our bartender/server probably had to finish up her prep to get into the groove of things. For my brunch meal, I went with a standard breakfast of eggs, sausage, potatoes and French toast. Everything was pretty delicious, and Matchbox definitely will go on the list for future visits. Oh, Matchbox has an "unlimited" mimosa and Bloody Mary deal where it's $22 plus $1 for each refill. I'm not really sure why the restaurant has the deal setup like this, but it is what it is.

Yelp
Got to try their bottomless brunch option this past Sunday around 11:30am and had a great experience . Sooo many options and every single dish came out fresh & hot, delicious! We were a group of 10 without a reservation but they were able to accommodate us. The service was awesome from the hosts , to our waiter Kevin, the food runners and the manager on duty , didn't catch his name , but overall a wonderful experience. The DJ was a nice edition to the experience.

Yelp
None of our food was hot, service was horrible , the waitress didn't even want to talk to us. The music was entirely to loud, I couldn't talk with my family at my table. Don't come if you plan on having a good food or conversation with your table.

Yelp
Great service, great for kids, super nice staff, very accommodating. They have a nice patio out front as well, with heaters. Cocktails were really good, espresso martini from the brunch menu was great, the cider spritz was good just not very apple-y. Food was pretty good, got the burrata pizza which was really tasty but I wanted extra cheese-I think just their version of extra cheese is way less than mine. The arancini was ok-I asked ahead because I'm picky and was told it had the center of melty cheese but it did not-and that's ok if that's what you want. In this case, it was the cheese through-out, so probably my question was just answered wrong. The butternut squash salad was ok-the dressing was great, and the squash was really good, I guess it's the name of "squash salad" I thought it would be mostly squash with some other things. It was a salad with squash sprinkled on top. I'm just picky with menus and details. So, I would def recommend for a quick bite, prices were ok (not cheap though), you can pick out some good stuff from the menu.

Yelp
This location was fine for the first several months when it opened in Silver Spring. Now it is just terrible. I see that it went from being locally owned to bought by Thompson Hospitality. Obviously a typical Blackrock type of situation where they care about profits only and are cutting corners. Terribly overpriced. I am comfortable paying a lot for a good meal. For 30 dollars a pizza it shouldn't have 25 cents worth of cheese. Even paying extra for cheese still results in same sad amount. Literally, making a protein shake because I'm starving.

Yelp
Have been here a couple times now and the food is just not great. Pizza is just bland, brunch food the same. But worst of all, if you have celiac, their "gluten free" labeling can't be trusted. Oh and the coffee is terrible. All in all, doubt I'll be back. The service is fine though!

Yelp
I haven't been here in years, and now I remember why. The staff is excellent, but the food is terrible. How do you mess up what you're known for? Please save your money I started with the crab soup. First off, it was incredibly salty--unbearably so--and it had an odd brownish color. Strange. Next was the pizza. I ordered The Pig, expecting a fully loaded pie with all kinds of meat. That didn't happen. The pizza was undercooked; I could tell as soon as it arrived. The middle was soggy, the ingredients were sparse, and they bizarrely put the ham under the cheese, which left it undercooked. Why would you do that? Meat placed that way will never cook properly. The execution was just poor. I only managed to eat a slice because I was starving and ended up taking the rest home to cook it properly myself. To top it all off, the service was painfully slow. They even brought out the appetizers and entrées at the same time. Again, Save your money and go elsewhere. Honestly, you'd probably be better off at Domino's on Georgia Ave.

Yelp
We were in Silver Spring for a show at The Fillmore and decided to grab a bite at Matchbox beforehand. This was our first time dining at any Matchbox location and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The Cast Iron Skillet Bread starter is possibly the best restaurant bread I've ever had, I mean look at that cheese!! The Apple Pear Salad had a lovely dressing and was very satisfying. My fiancé had the Pepperoni Pizza and loved it. Our server was very attentive and friendly as well!

Yelp
Came down for the tail end of Happy Hour for drinks and had a pleasant experience. Looks like they''ve changed their happy jour menu compared to other pics posted on yelp. I will attach the recent menu. I Ordered two drinks: the pineapple mai tai and the strawberry lemonade. They were both solid drinks that tasted good. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the strawberry lemonade because it's not my typical drink but I would def go back and order it again. I sat at the bar and the staff was very kind and accommodating. They provided anything that was requested and were very timely. The vibe of the restaurant was casual. There is plenty of seating. And a nice looking outdoor section for when the weather is warmer.

Yelp
I came here for happy hour and sat at a bar top table. The service was a bit slow for a Friday evening though the restaurant wasn't that packed. The happy hour menu is $2 off drinks and discounted food items (I didn't go with any of the food) the 3 mini burgers from the menu were good but I did not see need to have the large amount of friend onions on top.

Yelp
First time at Matchbox, definitely be back. Stopped by with my wife for happy hour. We tried a variety of items. I opted for beer but the draft system was not up to par so I settled for bottled beer and my wife had a margarita. Says it was pretty good. We ordered the Drunken Meatballs (very good), Matchbox Smashburger ( comes as a double, very good), the Sticky Pork Ribs (fall off the bone good) and the chicken wings (very good and flavorful). All of the food came out hot, tasted and looked very fresh. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
7.16.22 I normally don't eat salads or make healthy choices when dining out, but I decided to go with the Blackened Chicken Kale Bowl and so glad I did. It was amazing and may just be the best salad I have ever had. The chicken was well seasoned and not overcooked and the mango vinaigrette was delicious. My friend got the Garden Veggie Pizza and said it was good after she added salt. Service was slow. One of my friends who arrived early and got us a table had to ask for a menu before anyone came to check on her. It also took awhile before our food came out. Also, our server didn't stop by to check on us often. The Wayne Ave Garage is directly across from Matchbox and parking is free on the weekend. The gps directing me to the restaurant by foot was inaccurate so one of my friends and I had to stop and ask for directions. Food was great, but service could be better.

Yelp
Solid experience each time. I typically order a small Matchbox Meat to go. My order is always ready and my interactions with staff are pleasant.

Yelp
Had an amazing time here:) Super kind waiter and fast service. Very pleased! Went with a group of seven. We just decided to split two pizzas and the mini sliders. Total + tip came to about $70! Not bad at all:) Pizzas had pretty thin crusts but we're still very tasty! Got the meat pizza and margherita. Yummy standard thin crust pizzas. The Matchbox Meat pizza had a good amount of meat. Only vividly remember the pepperoni slices though, probably could've used a little bit more meat for it to be rlly distinguishable as a "meat lovers". Mini burger sliders were good, came with cheese, meat, pickle, and bun. Lots of fried onions on top. Pretty basic appetizer, so not much toppings aside. Still filling!

Yelp
This review is for the Milk & Honey Pop up via Matchbox Silver Spring. I've never dined in but used to order delivery from the location in College Park rather frequently. I was in the mood for their Jumbo Smothered Chicken & Biscuits that features deep fried chicken served over jumbo biscuits with scrambled cheesy eggs covered in Cajun cream sauce. From what I remember, the portions seemed much bigger that what I received today although it was still just as delicious. The prices are on the higher side ($20+ for an entree) and I used to justify those prices with the extremely large portions. For me to order again, I'll have to have a major hankering to feel comfortable paying these prices because there was nothing JUMBO about my meal today.

Yelp
Drinks weren't very good. Very watered-down. The food was ok , just average. The atmosphere was nice. Customer service was just average.

Yelp
My server customer service was excellent; however, the food was subpar. Nothing was enjoyable or flavorful. The atmosphere was pleasant, but the food and drinks were disappointing. My mini burgers were overcooked, and the buffalo chicken wasn't fully cooked. I would recommend trying the food and drinks at the Pentagon City location instead.

Yelp
To start, I really did not want to leave this review. However, I must say I am extremely upset with the service that was presented with today. I am only giving them one star for the manager Ty because he was a delight. This is the worst brunch I have experienced. We had a 4pm reservation and were not served any food or drink until closer to 5pm to which our server said they started stopped serving all brunch items. She barely paid attention to our table and did not have direct answers for our questions which prompted us to ask for a manager. We shall NEVER return to this location unless Ty is our server.

Yelp
I had a pretty good experience at Matchbox. This is an All-American restaurant with traditional All-American dishes. It also is a good option for Happy Hour drinks or simply to lounge leisurely for drinks. I dined with a group of friends and we shared many of the food items. Our waiter was very courteous and friendly and full-disclosure, the kitchen seemed to be short-staffed however our waiter was transparent in giving us realistic expectations as it pertains to timelines for receiving our food. He even made some food recommendations which I appreciate. On to the food and drinks. I ordered the following: - Build Your Own Burger w/ Pretzel Bun - Calamari - Milk & Honey - Strawberry Rosé Margarita - Chicken Wings All of the food was good except for the Milk & Honey biscuits. I got canned biscuit vibes after giving it a couple bites. The pretzel burger was the highlight. I ordered it medium cooked with a fried egg and bacon. The calamari was fresh, had an airy and light-fried breading and the squid itself was tender. The mixed drinks were what I expect of mixed drinks. One thing I recommend not doing is agreeing to sit in the seating in close proximity to the brick oven where the pizza is baked. Essentially near the kitchen. The heat emanating from the oven was noticeable immediately upon approaching our table. It wasn't so bad that it was intolerable however take this into consideration if it is something that might make you uncomfortable. Otherwise it was a very good experience. Next time I'll try their brick oven pizzas. Give them a shot.

Yelp
The chicken and waffles were great, and I had 2-3 more meals worth once I left! The cinnamon buns at brunch were a lot, maybe too sweet for my taste but good for a bigger party. The service was good and it was a nice spot for Sunday brunch.

Yelp
Decided to visit matchbox on a Friday evening to check out what this restaurant has to offer. We ordered the 3.6.9 sliders which comes with your option of cheese, toasted brioche bun and topped with an ample amount of onion straws. The burger was decent, it wasn't really seasoned well... kind of bland. The pizza (margherita and matchbox meat) was delicious! Both pizzas were perfectly made and I will deff return for the pizza alone! The rose strawberry margarita was really good too! Overall, i will definitely return! The customer service was great! We didn't make reservations but was able to find a spot for 2 so deff make reservations ahead especially on the weekends or Friday night because it was pretty packed. Parking is available at the garage nearby and it's free after 7pm on weekdays i believe and free on the weekends. We parked in wayne garage which was a short 3 min walk from matchbox!

Yelp
Matchbox is a great addition to Silver Spring. I tried the Rockville location with a family friend and my parents several years ago either when I was a student at American University or was interning for the summer. I enjoyed their Fire and Smoke Pizza but my parents found it too spicy. I was happy it was coming here and my fiancé and I loved the Fire and Smoke Pizza and have also enjoyed their unlimited Brunchbox and cheap drinks on weekend as well as their happy hour specials and rewards such as free birthday pizzas. When my dad was in town in June we chose to eat here after over a year of not eating here in person (ordered for carry out and delivery a couple times) and also knowing they also make some of our favorites from one of the best restaurants in the area, Milk and Honey. Interestingly, they do their brunch all day every day as well as Milk and Honey's brunch items. This may be due to the fact Eggspectations closed next door. With my dad we ordered the 14" Holy Grail Margherita Pizza as well as the RumChata French Toast and Deep Fried Salmon Hash from the Milk and Honey menu. The Milk and Honey items were good too but not quite as good as what we have ate at and ordered for delivery from the Beltsville location with the French Toast being the most impressive. For desert we shared 9 of the Donuts on the Matchbox menu and the Deep Fried Strawberry Shortcake Biscuits. The donuts were delicious but the biscuits were overcooked and disappointing, nothing like what we ate in Beltsville. Pre-Covid Matchbox was 5 Stars but due to the fact they did not have happy hour (but planned to resume soon) , Brunchbox (with cheap drinks), or the Beyond Sausage makes it not quite Five Stars. While I appreciate them introducing Milk and Honey to our neighborhood, I hope they can improve the consistency to make it closer to the food we have had from Beltsville.
