"Opening tomorrow in downtown Silver Spring, the 6,000-square-foot, 150-seat Matchbox No. 12 at 919 Ellsworth Drive features separate lunch and dinner menus for the first time since Thompson Hospitality Group acquired the brand with an $11 million investment last summer. Culinary director Jim Drost’s expanded menu adds a ginormous meatball served over herbed spaghetti, a grain bowl built around blackened chicken, avocados, and kale, and new wood-fired pizzas topped with pork belly, jumbo lump crab, and corn alongside the chain’s familiar lineup of wood-fired pizzas. I noted the location will run a burger-of-the-month in partnership with Thompson’s Big Buns, joins Matchbox’s months-old “Brunchbox” weekend format with bottomless bloody marys and mimosas and unlimited small plates (mini “walk of shame” burritos and fried chicken and grits), and that Streetsense’s design touches include vintage flags, pizza paddles, and direct sight lines to the brick ovens." - Tierney Plumb
