Char siu & fried egg sandwich is super tasty and filling! I recommend this and would come back again to order. Their other items on the menu and from the bakery are awesome too.

Honestly the breakfast sandwich here is better than the one at Kasama. It has so much more flavor and ofc no wait. Comes with plantain chips/ coleslaw and a drink too! Would recommend this place to anyone visiting Chicago :)

I am visiting from out of town and this was one of the stalls that has something I haven’t tried before. I knew I had to get the pineapple bun sandwich with char siu egg cheese and hash brown! The meal comes with a drink and coleslaw/plantain chips. I got to try their matcha mochi with red bean filling and coconut flakes coating. The texture is not as hard as Japanese dango. If you like mugwort dango with red bean, Sakura mochi, or kashiwa mochi, this tastes better. I usually get dango or mochi refrigerated at the grocery store. The one here is soft and fresh. It wasn’t too sweet. If you love matcha and red bean, definitely should give it a try. I also got to try the thick fries. They’re so crispy and delicious. It should be on the menu. The staff are all so nice and pleasant. They put so much love and care into their food. If I live in Chicago this would be the spot I would frequent.

Google
Food court spot in Gangam market. Was feeling breakfast so I got the char siu and fried egg Sando. Love me a pineapple bun. It was flaky and sweet. Nice fried egg and layer of cheese. Hash brown was super crisp but a little greasy. Finally, the pork was overcooked which took a lot away from the sandwich. Super messy so highly recommend some napkins. Plantain chips on the side were meh. Definitely worth stopping by especially on Monday when it’s 30% off.

I had high hopes for Matt Bake after hearing all the buzz, but honestly, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. The biggest red flag was the 15% tax added on top of everything — way above the usual sales tax, especially when other food stalls in the same market don’t do this. It felt excessive and unnecessary. As for the food, the Pineapple Bun Chicken Sandwich was a miss. The chicken was way too overpowering in both flavor and sweetness, and pairing that with an already sweet pineapple bun just made it a sugar overload. The balance was completely off. The only standout was the Egg Sando — simple, tasty, and well-executed. If I ever return, it would probably be just for that. In the end, Matt Bake looks cool and has some creative ideas, but it doesn’t justify the pricing or the hype. There are better spots in the area that don’t tack on hidden charges and serve better-balanced food.

As someone who partially grew up in Hong Kong and the US, this a great example of where my two worlds meet. Such a simple idea yet kind of brilliant to make sandwiches with our favorite Hong Kong proteins and pineapple buns with an American twist. Great job. My only request; make the pineapple crust on the bun a little thicker to help the sweet buttery taste shine a little brighter alongside the strong savory additions of the sandwich! Still a great sandwich and definitely worth the try!! :)

Google
The beef and egg sandwich, truffle egg sandwich and fried chicken sando are go-tos. The flavors and textures are off the charts for the price. I think the fried chicken sandwich might be one of my favorites ever. The bao buns are a fun grab n go snack too. Highly recommend for a fun, casual lunch or dinner!

This place is amazing. The egg drop sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Great spot for a quick lunch if you're in the area.

Yelp
I ordered through uber eats and wish I ordered more. one thing - the crab soup dumplinga are relishes I added their sauce even added some chili oil it was really good. I also ordered a macaron it was my first time trying it and I believe it was made perfectly. I also had a slice of chocolate cake it was creamy and delicious. this store is underrated I'm waiting to get paid to order the ube bun

Yelp
They need a gashapon machine for Matt Bakes because until my next meal I'll be つ _ つwaiting for you! つ _ つ New favorite place to bring friends- locals and visitors alike -- MATT BAKES SLAPS! !(^o^)! Matt can toast my pineapple buns any day- the Wizard behind the Curtain!!! ( ° ل °) I've tried everything on their menu. (ò_ó) The truffle beef and egg is particularly spectacular. TRY THE SPECIALS. You gotta get a coffee cat and a strawberry turtle guy. Try to resist their cuteness () Ok well now you know. Matt bakes deserves a line out the door but I'm happy it doesn't have one rn 。‿。 Can't wait to try the pineapple waffles???? Huh??? Please show me Rachel, show me!!!!

Yelp
Ordered 2 spamwhiches and 1 cha sui sandwhich for my kids. Service was very slow at ~20 min from when we ordered on the kiosk. They mixed up a few items from mine and my friend's orders - so we had to account for missing items even after waiting soo long. This added to the frustration of some very hungry kids. The 2 spamwhiches were made differently which confused my kids. My cha sui was okay but the bun was a bit much. I kinda wish it came with the toast instead. It's something I would get again. Each sandwhich came with a drink from the cooler that the counter person didn't tell us about. I had to deduce based on other orders. I'm not sure I would be back again as there are other options we can try in the food court

Yelp
Great customer service here. Came in the do some shopping within the Asian shopping center. We opted to grab a cocktail and some late lunch. My husband ordered me the chicken Sando on the pineapple bun. I did not enjoy the bun. They were so nice and changed out the bread for my Sando, to the Japanese milk bread. I enjoyed my chicken Sando and throughly was impressed with my plantain chips. Check this out if you want some yummy grub.

Yelp
Ambience is a food court in the Gangnam Market. Gangnam Market is awesome and worth the trip on its own, but if you come to the Gangnam market then come with an appetite because they food options are great! The service is as straight forward as you'd expect for a food market. I've had Matt Bakes twice now. The first time I went I got the Char Siu and Fried Egg Sandwich which had BBQ pork, hash brown, fried egg & cheese on a pineapple bun. The Char Siu itself was 8/10 and the sandwich as a whole was 9/10. I'd give it a 10/10 if it had a little more cheese and if the egg was cooked just a little more. This breakfast sandwich gives Kasama's breakfast sandwich a run for its money. The first time I went I forgot to take a pics, but the second time I went I was sure to get a picture. The second time I went I got the Truffle Beef and Eggs Sandwich which included Truffle beef & soft scrambled eggs on shokupan with coleslaw on the side. This sandwich is very savory and one of a kind. I highly recommend you give it a try. The coleslaw was 7/10 which makes it worth trying in my opinion. I didn't get any pictures of the baked goods, but I highly recommend trying their donuts and strawberry bun. I even bought some of the pineapple buns for homemade burgers.

Yelp
Service is friendly. Unfortunately I came to try the bbq pork plate but they were out. I ended up getting the fried pork sandwich with plantain chips and a currant juice box. The pork was good but kind of hard to eat as a sandwich and I didn't have a fork and knife. It's a big size on a Hawaiian role with pickles and sauce. The chips were delicious! We had a very good ube turtle pastry for dessert! There is a decent amount of seating for this food court.

Yelp
Matt bakes can be found in the back of the Gangnam market food court. I ordered the three sauce rice noodles which consisted of sesame oil, sriracha, and hoisin. I felt the combo was a bit basic but the rice noodles themselves were very fresh. I ended up having to wait 30 mins for them, which was a bit longer than I expected so I would only place an order here if you're looking for multiple meal size items as opposed to a snack.

Yelp
We got the egg sando and the karaage chicken sandwich. The egg sando is not the like Japanese egg sando - it was honestly pretty underwhelming. The best part about it was the Japanese milk bread. The chicken sandwich was good but nothing special that I would come back for. The pastries looked good but we didn't get a chance to try them.

Yelp
HOT TAKE - the breakfast sandwich at Matt Bakes might be better than the sandwich at Kasama. It comes with sausage, grilled onions, melted cheese, and a fried egg in a pineapple bun. The yolk gets all over the sandwich and the ingredients are spread out so each bite is equally delicious. It's also easier on the wallet. They also have a bakery with a lot of delicious and cute looking items at a very fair price. The rest of the food menu looked awesome and I can't wait to go back and try their other items!

Yelp
Inside Gangnam Market! Saw photos of their items on Gangnam Market yelp page so wanted to give some love on the shop's own page! Plenty of pastry items available and menu was extensive for breakfast items ~ I opt for the Char Siu Bun (Chinese BBQ pork) which comes with egg, hash brown, and cheese Everything was tasty and toasty, nicely charred too - really enjoyed this item, plantain chips were a nice snack too Free drink with every breakfast item! Would love to come back next time to try their Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken Bun

Yelp
These "slices" are a quarter of an actual slice you would get anywhere else for the same price. Adding insult to injury, the taste is average at best. Cannot recommend this page.

Yelp
First time trying Matt Bakes and the girl behind the counter suggested the truffle beef egg sandwich and the sweet shokupan special. All I can say is wow. You could really taste the truffle in the thinly sliced beef and the egg was so soft. Nothing was overcooked. Just perfect. And then the crunch from the milk bread made it feel so delicate and savory. I'm drooling just remember the first bite! The plantain chips were a perfect pairing as it was not too sweet and had the perfect crunch. I also enjoyed the sweet shokupan dessert. I'm sorry I forget the name but it was a special over the weekend. It had creamy white custard of some sort inside and it was so good! I can't wait to come back and try the other items on the menu!

Yelp
Took my grandsons around Gangnam Market and ate at Matt Bakes. Quick efficient service in a vibrant environment. Boys had breakfast sandwiches and they loved them. One with fried chicken the other with Char Siu. I had shrimp rolls and Siu Mai. I would get the shrimp rolls again.

Tiva T.

Yelp
I ordered the spam and egg sandwich and was surprised to have to option to pick plantain chips as a side. Even more surprised that they were so good. So was the sandwich but people may not know about the mariquitas. Sandwich was buttered and toasted on the outside. Great breakfast meal.

Yelp
Presentation is good. The pork was chewy. It was cooked earlier and served at a later time when I ordered. The pork is store bought breakfast ham with a glaze on it.

Yelp
Although the service is very good, I would have to say "NO" to their 554, shrimp dumplings & shumai. Their 554 has no taste and the meat is very fatty. The shumai is also very fatty and tough to eat. The shrimp shumai was very unappealing and had no taste. Maybe their sandwiches are better?
