Maya Congee Cafe - Fulton St

I’ve gotten the braised chicken congee both times I’ve been here - consistently delicious! Good mixture of flavors, easy on the stomach and good for digestion. Def recommend! The banh mi was ok. i didn’t expect it to blow me out of the water because the name of the restaurant is “Maya Congee” 🙂‍↔️

I recently tried the congee here and it was fantastic! 🍲 I’m familiar with congee from Chinatown, so I knew what to expect, and this did not disappoint. It was so yummy and filling, with the pork floss, carrots, and mushrooms combining perfectly for a flavorful, comforting bowl. 😋✨ We also got the chicken banh mi, which was amazing! 🥖 The carrots had a flavorful sauce, and there was fresh cilantro—plus a nice spicy kick! 🌶️ My nose got a bit runny because I really can’t handle spice, but it was so worth it 🤣🔥. The wait time was about 25 minutes, which felt reasonable given how fresh and well-prepared everything was. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. This place is definitely worth a visit if you’re craving a hearty, satisfying meal! 🌟

Very pleasant and intimate space. The congee has a unique approach with different ingredients from traditional congee. The food sneaks up on you on how filling it gets. A great rainy day experience especially since there are some local Asian delights for sale too

We had the classic comfort, golden energy, and morning brioche no1. I was hoping the congees took congee to the next level but while eating it, I found myself wishing I was eating more traditional congee instead. The morning brioche no1 bun was ok

Can’t find a better place for a rainy day meal! Paired with a ginger tea, hot in winter or iced in summer. Mmmmm

We were very disappointed by the food here. Feels like one of those places that charges you a fortune to serve “elevated” takes on Chinese staples that veer way too far from the originals. The congee looked nice but was borderline cold with very odd flavors. Quinoa should not be in congee. The century egg was sliced in half and hard boiled which I’ve never seen before. The scallion pancakes were doughy, undercooked, and served with sweet and sour sauce which was a puzzling choice. If you want an unconventional take on congee then maybe you’ll enjoy this. But I personally do not see the appeal. You can get better congee at any number of hole in the wall places in Chinatown for a fraction of the price.

Delicious food but please please don’t swap or add ingredients on orders without asking. 😅 sometimes I get orders with different stuff added in or swapped that I can’t eat. Today my bowl was supposed to have radish, peanuts & avocado. But they also added onions & carrots I’m allergic to carrots so I couldn’t eat it. My husband loved it though lol. Great food and I do want to come back just a small feedback!

the congee was delicious and so flavorful! I thought I got a simple braised chicken bowl but even that had so many other small elements in there that further amplified the dish. saw some reviews complaining about the congee being unevenly heated, but I did not experience this. also such a beautiful little place to dine in-and they have a few shelves dedicated to groceries. my only suggestion is specify if your lattes have coffee or not, other than that everything was (basically) perfect would return for breakfast, lunch, or dinner any time of the year :-)

I grew up eating congee as a common breakfast meal but had forgotten about it for a while now since I've been on a more strict diet. My sister wanted to try this place out because she loves congee and I thought why not! We got the tofu bowl to share and wow it was so delicious. The warm congee is perfect on a cold fall or winter day. I love all the different toppings they add especially the pickled vegetables and peanuts to add texture to the meal. Instead of just using white rice, they used different mixes of grains for the congee - making it more healthy. They got rid of the scallion pancakes which was a bummer because it looked so good in the photos. They also have a little shelf market selling different Asian cooking ingredients. I couldn't narrow down to a specific country, I think this place is meant to be more Asian-fusion.

I was craving something small and light after work. I chose the chicken ginger soup and an iced chai latte. It is cute little intimate restaurant with an open kitchen and a small store inside. I ordered it to go and it was still pretty hot when I got home. The soup was very flavorful and tasty. The broth really soothed my body and senses. No noodles were in it. I believe this is an Indonesian restaurant. The little store sold noodles sauces games and books. I am definitely interested in coming back to try other items on the menu.

I came on a weekend and there were seats available. There are 4 tables that seat 2 people each, and a small window counter with 2 seats. You order at the counter and then seat yourself. I ordered the small chicken congee. It was flavorful and I would get it again, but next time I would order the large because I was still hungry after the small bowl. This is definitely a small and casual spot so I wouldn't plan on staying long.

My friend was catsitting in Clinton Hill and I wanted to check out a new cafe, so I used that as an excuse to check out Maya and was glad I did! The chicken congee was delicious and incredibly filling (great price point too) and the Hong Kong iced coffee had great floral notes that really made it pop. The space is really small, so it can be difficult to get a seat, but they have free wi-fi so it's a great place to work from if needed as well.

This is my first time have Congee and it was better than what I expected. At Maya Congee Cafe they put twist to their Congee. It's thicker and made with three grains ( white and brown rice and red quinoa). The broth has ginger in it. @mayacongeecafe puts a twist to Congee. Congee is a Chinese rice pudding. It is boiled with large amounts of water and can be served with sweet or savory toppings. Braised Chicken bowl Pork Banh Mi Ginger Tumeric Latte Passionfruit Iced Fruit Tea with Boba Curry potatoes ( not pictured) The Braised Chicken Congee bowl is actually a little thicker than what I thought it will be. It's similar to grits. The toppings all meshed well together from the crispy shallots to the well seasoned chicken. The banh Mi was so delicious. The slight sweet and spiciness from the braised pork and condiments was well executed here. They have one of the best banh mi I ever tried. The curry potatoes was well seasoned and the potatoes were cooked perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed the Passionfruit Iced Tea with Boba. They also have a small Asian market from NYC owned to international owned Asian products. I love that they pretty much make everything from scratch for their food items. This is also a cafe so you can also get your coffee fix, teas and juices. Hours 10am-4pm everyday They have another location on Gates Avenue

Great congee with hearty servings. The inclusion of quinoa in the congee (along with rice) is unusual but I quite like it. Very nice folks working here, and I appreciate the small yet tasteful selection of Asian goods in their mini-market.

So good and yummy, wonderful service and food- BUT they got rid of the bacon jam!!! It was one of my fave toppings would love if they brought it back!

A great place for lunch. I enjoy the chicken ginger soup and I have them add rice to it. Light and delicious. The vibe in this place is pretty chill. Good music and plenty of Asian snacks to buy. I must also mention that they make a fab Americano. Pop by and enjoy!

Cute spot with delicious food and coffee. We had the Vietnamese style coffee, I have the condensed milk option and my partner had the coconut milk. Both were delicious. They use Variety beans which I love. They have a cute grocery section too with all kinds of chili oils and spices etc. Food was delicious! We got the veggie congee bowl(I asked for without seasonal vegetables) and the breakfast sandwich.

Been wanting to try this place for a minute. I typically don't eat congee unless I'm feeling unwell but stopped in before my hair appt and grabbed a spicy pork congee with soft egg and was not disappointed. Good amount of protein and the pickled veggies were a yummy foil to the braised meat and warm congee. Service was super friendly. Ambiance inside the shop was dope. I'll come back to purchase the mushroom dark soy sauce they had displayed, along with other umami-rich Asian ingredients. Was satisfied and will make a return visit.

The good is well presented and so delicious. The service is simple but quaint, it is aesthetically pleasing. Everything is fresh.

Small little place with a surprising amount of seating inside. I haven't had an issue getting a seat during lunch hours- even if that means sitting at the counter. Chicken congee didn't thrill me, but I just wasn't a fan of the texture of congee- I'm sure others love it. The chicken ginger soup is AMAZING. Highly recommend. The black sesame latte seems to be popping up at a ton of local cafes around here- this one is the most reasonably priced I've seen. It's a unique taste and you should expect it won't be smooth towards the end. I LOVE it but it's probably a love it or hate it thing

stopped in on my way to the gym ordered a quick drink once i saw the women and asian owned sign only to get flippant service from the two bleach blondes behind the counter. my drink was alright. the vibe itself was cute. but once they messed up the order of guy in a cast next to me and he amicably accepted it with zero humility from the staff, they went totally nonverbal on me despite my own patient demeanor. just for my fellow black brooklynites, don't be enchanted by these signs. the staff's attitudes say enough!

i also rarely review places, but this place 100% slaps. killer service, amazing food, casual and playful vibes. the sesame drink is a really textural experience, but i personally really like that!

This is the second location for the modern take of Asian congee concept. Just like oatmeal or any grain bowls, congee could be a blank canvas for various toppings, but mostly associated with savory flavors. Here, don't expect your run of the mill just protein 'porridge', rather you're encouraged to top the hearty bowl with pickled items, choice of proteins and condiments. Don't sleep or be afraid of the thousand years old egg, which is just a preserved eggs cured in an alkaline solution. Not expired. There's also banh mi sandwiches and also surprised baked goods that the chef would cook up. Recently, it was the black sesame mochi cake at a bargain price of $2.50 per slice. Everything just feels homey and comforting, perfect for the winter that's upon us. Not to mention this is a minority woman owned business, more reason to support a small business in NYC.

First time trying Congee and it was delicious! Easy to make vegetarian and easy to digest so definitely go to when feeling a little sick. Service was great. Only thing is outdoor seating so better to do take out or go when it's warm outside.

ok not to be mean, i never write bad reviews, but i had the grossest drink here. it was the black sesame drink but it tasted like grounded up sesame and water. i took one sip and threw it away. super bummed. i'm sure the food is good tho lol
