The 38 Best Restaurants in Sydney, Australia | Eater

"This glam yet good-humored venue is optimized for high-level fun, so don’t be surprised if the pink-suited bartenders finish your cocktail with a citrusy bubble from a Flavour Blaster or a puff of ruby chocolate. There’s usually a thematic flair to the drinks, from playful creations inspired by the Monopoly board game to the current motif, the Grand Maybe Sammy Hotel: a lineup evoking different aspects of holiday life inspired by Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. Best for: Finding out what the hype is about. Since Maybe Sammy opened in 2019, it’s collected award after award, including the World’s 50 Best Bars’ top Australasian spot on five occasions." - Lee Tran Lam

2025.05.01 – First Visit Back then, I was determined to visit this bar when I came to Sydney — the one known for providing the best emotional value in the entire city! It’s also one of Asia’s Top 50 Bars! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to sit at the bar — it’s walk-in only. Still, both the servers and bartenders were incredibly gentlemanly and had a great sense of humor! We enjoyed a drink — the menu was designed like Monopoly! They also offer combo mini cocktails as well as single drinks. We arrived early, but it was already packed! We also ordered a snack — the lobster roll 🦞, highly recommended and an absolute must-try! It was incredibly delicious! The last photo shows the bill!

This bar is so cool! We came during happy hour and demolished some mini cocktails. The Irish coffee and lychee martini are so good! We also tried several full sized cocktails and I had to try the veggie mite inspired one. It was pretty good and as described! Even the menus were super detailed and well done!

We had a wonderful time at Maybe Sammy, #26 on the list of Top 50 Bars in the World. Special thanks to our server Steven for a wonderful time! The drinks, food, service and ambience were wonderful. The bar has a luxurious late 40’s feel with music from Sinatra and other Rat Pack singers adding to the fun ambience. There is a martini that is served with a smoke-filled bubble placed on top (they have a special gun, that looks like a Ray Gun, to create it.) We did not have that Lychee Martini, but we each had two drinks and enjoyed the lobster roll and the truffle cheese toasty. We particularly enjoyed the Old Fashioned-like Breakfast in Bed.

My partner and I went for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. The service was amazing. The gentleman that was making all of the delicious food was by far the most attentive. While he was preparing food he was checking in on us all night to make sure we were happy. The oysters with the cocktails were delicious. The atmosphere was also electric.

Maybe Sammy is a fun craft bar experience. The whole vibe is entirely upbeat with a DJ, the pink blazers and general decor. The menu is novel in that it is kind of a retro hotel based Monopoly board. It’s easy to decipher along with guidance from the bartenders who are in no way aloof. The drinks are creative as is the presentation. I ordered a couple of the ones on the “weird” end of the spectrum and they were a bit weird but utterly delicious. They do have a bit of food and we had the hummus which was outstanding and downright inexpensive. We should have had more at Maybe Sammy because the food was actually better than at our restaurant choice!

Just a great experience each time I visit with excellent drinks! Highly highly recommend. Also had their oyster and lobster roll which was nice too.

Wow! What a great experience! Bartender Hunter was the perfect mix of professional and fun. I love that this bar (hotel) looks serious at first glance but then turns things fun at a moment's notice. IG worthy presentation, but with impeccable cocktails to back it up. There's a reason this location got ranked in the world's best. If you love a good cocktail, this is a must!

Maybe Sammy is hands down one of the best cocktail bars in Sydney. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is electric—elegant yet playful, with a retro-glam feel that transports you to a golden era of hospitality. The service is impeccable; the staff are not only knowledgeable but also bring an infectious energy that makes the experience even more enjoyable. Every cocktail is crafted with precision and flair, and the attention to detail in both presentation and flavor is next-level. It’s the kind of place where you don’t just have a drink—you have an experience. Whether you’re there for a casual night out or a special occasion, Maybe Sammy guarantees an amazing evening. Highly recommend!

Yelp
If there's one bar to visit in Sydney, it's Maybe Sammy. The themed drinks inspired by The Grand Budapest Hotel and creative presentations truly elevate the experience. Their signature Lychee Martini is a showstopper, served with a playful bubble on top that adds a whimsical touch to the refreshing and perfectly balanced drink. Another highlight is the poolside cocktail, presented with a glowing light at the bottom of the glass and a sugar donut-shaped candy resembling a pool ring - equal parts clever and stunning. The staff here are super fun, bringing energy and charm to the experience, all while delivering top-notch service. Whether for a lively night out or an unforgettable cocktail adventure, Maybe Sammy is a must-visit in Sydney

Yelp
Love the spot. So much fun! Everything and everyone is fun and whimsical. We came on a Saturday before dinner; we needed to get out by 5:30 to make dinner, so we stopped by extra early to be sure we got into the first round. We came by at 4 pm and were first in line; if you want your pick of seating, I'd recommend getting here around 4:15 pm. To get into the first round (based on this one experience anyways), you should be fine if you stop by 5 minutes before opening (4:25 pm). The happy hour is amazing - mini cocktails at AUD$7 and oysters at AUD$2 each. I love the mini cocktails! Aside from being a good deal, I love that they were tiny so even someone like me (super light weight when it comes to alcohol) can still have a few! Both the hubby and I had 3 each. =D My favs were the lychee martini, maybe margarita, and Irish coffee. Big shout out to Emery for making awesome cocktails and a fun happy hour! He was a hoot!

Yelp
I went for the oysters and left unsatisfied Ok ok, different country = different oysters but I just wasn't a fan. Thankfully, they were on $2 Haply Hour because I left about half of my dozen and a half order. I believe the oysters were from Tasmania and they were served on rocks instead of ice, so they were room temperature not cold ‍ the taste was very fishy and they were large, which I don't love. Drinks we had a martini and whiskey, both were tasty but I prefer my olives pitted in my drinks. The bartenders seemed to enjoy their jobs, which was fun so I'd say give it a try.

Yelp
If there is one place you must absolutely visit in Sydney, it's Maybe Sammy! Being ranked #1 in the Top 500 Bars List is absolutely deserved. They even have non-alcoholic versions of many of their cocktails for those who don't consume alcohol or want to pace themselves while enjoying the best bar in Australia. Embracing the roaring 50s lifestyle, the bar's decor fully showcases the opulence, the bartenders are rocking the sexy blazers, and the atmosphere is absolutely fantastic. The drinks alone are why the bar is absolutely worth the visit (even with the wait to get in at busy times). But Maybe Sammy offers so much more - the service is impeccable, the quality is top notch, and perhaps most importantly, the atmosphere is exquisite. The staff is having fun non-stop throughout the whole night and is super professional while enjoying themselves and entertaining the audience. The showmanship of bartenders like Wen, Luca, and Paolo is next level! In addition to the high quality of the drinks, the unique presentation customized for each is equally impressive. Some places can sometimes achieve one of those but finding a bar that masters both is extremely rare. Servers like Maggie are also friendly, helpful, and always cheerful. The food is quite good when it comes to what you'd expect from a bar. They even have $2 oysters on Saturdays. I would highly, highly recommend trying to get a seat at the bar to truly get the full experience!

Yelp
Last night's adventure at the #1 bar in the world, Maybe Sammy, was simply unforgettable! Despite the hour-long wait in line, it was absolutely worth it. The Kiwi Martini with bitters took my taste buds on an extraordinary journey - an explosion of flavors that transported me to another realm! If you're looking for a mind-blowing cocktail experience, Maybe Sammy is the place to be. Cheers to incredible moments and unforgettable libations!

Yelp
Service is top notch. Attentive and fun barbacks. TThe cocktails are creative and enticing with added flair. A definite must if you're in Sydney.

Yelp
Wowwww Wowwwww Wowwwww, I can absolutely see why Maybe Sammy made it to number 1 on the top500 list! This is so much more than a bar, it's a whole experience. You just feel good the second you enter the door. The cocktails are out of this world yes, but the show that you get while enjoying them is everything! I've been to a lot of bars and never experienced something like this in all my years of traveling. All of the bartenders make you feel right at home. Everyone is super friendly and crazy energetic throughout the entire night. The vibe is just on another level, feels more like a party than a bar hahaha. Can't wait to come back, looking up tickets now!

Yelp
MAYBE SAMMY IS A MUST!! While on holiday in Sydney, I stumbled upon Maybe Sammy and I am so glad I did as it is now one of my favorite cocktail bars. The concept of this bar is such a fun one, it is a "hotel bar" that is not in a hotel. The theme is executed perfectly as you truly feel like you've stepped into a five-star hotel upon entering. The bar itself is a masterpiece, with bartenders dressed in vintage attire, ready to mix up some of the most whimsical and fun cocktails I've ever had. The creativity behind each cocktail is impressive and adds a layer of entertainment to your night out. All of the cocktails were phenomenal and presented in such a fun way. The bartenders and staff were incredibly friendly and did a wonderful job of playing the role of "hotel bar staff". If you're looking for a unique and memorable night out, this is the place to be. I can't wait to return and try more of their inventive cocktails. Highly recommend!

Yelp
It's located in "The Rock" neighborhood. From decor, staffs, service to drinks, everything is super tight and fancy. Not a cocktail drinker, but I enjoyed everything I ordered. All of them had good taste and presentation. As for demographic, they were mostly bankers/lawyers. Not a place for shorts and t-shirt. It doesn't necessarily mean that "dress to impress" but dress adequately. (Collared shirts and non jeans would be safe)

Yelp
Very cool, very fun place. Came here after four days of an exhibition looking for a nice dinner and Great cocktails I wanted oysters and the host suggested a scotch based cocktail that is Sara's own concoction resulting from the Burning Man. Delicious and great with oyster. Then he recommended the steak tartare and a different cocktail. Wonderful. I loved this place and can't wait to visit again. A Sydney must!

Yelp
A very well deserved on the best bars in the world. The drinks were all super well balanced and tasty. Got a variety and my favorite was the espresso martini and the Marilyn Monroe inspired one. Come early as it can get absolutely packed.

Yelp
LOVELY service. Excellent cocktails. Wonderful vibes. What's not to love? We stopped by on a Tuesday night and they were able to seat us at the bar. The bartenders are incredibly kind and helpful. Both of the drinks we ordered were fantastic in terms of taste and presentation. I'm sure we'll be back!

Yelp
We had heard such amazing things about this bar and their cocktails. The staff were great on arrival and the cocktails were very good. However, the waiter accidently spilled a tray of glasses which broke and fell on to us. It was an accident and it happens, however there was no offer to comp a drink or a snack. This was not very satisfactory for the level of service you are paying for. And a simple gesture of comping a drink would have changed the whole experience.

Yelp
There's a reason why Maybe Sammy is part of the top bars in the world. Their drinks were phenomenal! Kudos to the bartenders for going above and beyond!

Yelp
This place goes all in on the 1950s, in the best way possible. There's old school music blaring from the sound system, bartenders decked out in white blazers, and delicious cocktails on the menu. Both the cocktails I tried were fantastic! All the flavors came through, it was obvious they use the freshest ingredients. Lots of skill goes into making these drinks. If the cocktails weren't reason enough to visit (they really should be), I also got a half dozen oysters, and WOW! I finally understand what it means for oysters to be creamy and buttery in texture. These are all local, and the flavor is amazing. Definitely come here for great cocktails, great food, and a space that commits to classiness, with plenty of room for groups of all sizes.

Yelp
i went to Maybe Sammy while traveling with my 27 year old son for 3 weeks this summer . He suggested it because it is listed as " one of the 50 best bars in the world " So yes , high expectations ! Well it did not disappoint . From the moment you walk into the very warm yet " cool" bar it feels like an experience . It takes you back in time . I love that drinks come in "minis" so it's similar to a flight ! The presentation of drinks was stunning . Most important was they tasted as good as they looked ! They experiment with both taste and presentation and they deliver . I suggest googling it to look at the drink menu which in itself is like a piece of art ! The waitress was a joy and she really added to the experience ! She was well versed in the menu and made us feel very welcome , like we were special ! Please if you happen to be lucky enough to be in beautiful Sydney....experience this very special experience

Yelp
Maybe Sammy, located in Sydney's The Rocks district is the premier destination for an impressive cocktail. We've been numerous times and it never disappoints. It is also an overall unreal experience and a venue which we guarantee you will have a great time. No wonder this venue has received multiple awards, in particular, ranked one of the World's top 50 bars. This place is all about the cocktails, which are of a high calibre. They have been well thought out and put together, many of which also have a theatrical component. Think matching hand cream with your cocktail and bubbles atop your glass. They offer a good range of martini's, coffee cocktails and also miniature takes on their classics. There's even some special ones for the high rollers. We tried a few different cocktails, and they were all delicious! Mr Bojangles - made with Gentleman Jack Whiskey, Cocchi Americano, Peanut Butter, Fermented Honey, Bitters Blue Moon - Ketel One Vodka, Passionfruit, Lychee, Espelette Pepper, White Chocolate Harlem Shake - 24 Hennessy VS Cognac, Mr Black Amaro, Espresso, Raspberry Syrup Once in Lifetime - Ketel One Vodka, Rhubi Mistelle, Toasted Coconut, Coconut Water, Citrus, Bergamot Bubble- this is so cool, served with a bubble! The bar staff are suave in their white blazers, providing a show with their bar skills. Service is attentive and staff have a lot of character. There's some outdoor tables too, and you don't get forgotten. We're impressed that one of the owners, Martin even works the floor, meeting and greeting guests. The interior of the venue is 1950's inspired and feels opulent with its rich green banquettes and stools, pastel colouring and brass fittings. The dim lighting and lamps provides for a sophisticated feel to the place. Owners Andrea Gualdi, Martin Hudak, Stefano Catino and Vince Lombardo have sure made for an unreal bar and we look forward to returning.
