Still Essential, Grocery Workers Are Reporting a New Low in Morale | Eater

"A union steward in Kentucky, Angel Manners, says managers at the store have been making unilateral decisions that pressure lower-level employees to work while symptomatic, often downplaying coughs and implying that refusing could cost them their jobs. The end of hazard pay and generally low wages have left many workers — including sole household earners — in precarious financial positions, and escalating customer hostility (from rudeness to outright harassment and violence by those refusing masks or mandates) has further eroded safety and morale." - Madeleine Davies

How White Lily Flour Began Appearing Across the Country | Eater

"A Midwestern superstore where a shopper from Tennessee living in West Michigan was thrilled to find the flour, buying a bag every visit and rationing purchases under a one-bag-per-customer limit. She reserved the flour exclusively for biscuits, calling them “super fluffy” and the best she’s ever had, and expressed ongoing anxiety about running out." - Naomi Tomky

Google
My favorite place to get grocery pickup orders. I love how easy it is to find my car in the parking lot based on the rows being alphabetically labeled and how easy it is to find things from their website based on the exact location of where things are in the store.

Google
Great store. But I'm afraid we're going to have to have a GoFundMe of you want a cart that isn't so annoying that you cut your shopping short and go somewhere else.. Yes. It's that bad. Update*** carts are worse. I'm either going to purchase my own cart or direct limit myself to specialty items that fit in a hand basket.... if you can find one either. Even Trap House Walmart changed the wheels on their carts. I mean seriously Meijers.... What is going on?

Google
Another fantastic Meijer experience. Im always impressed with how clean their store is and how helpful the staff are.

Google
The heck with 5 stars, this major foodie / private chef is sprinkling 5 MILLION stars with special thanks to Shreena, Jaycee and Maureen D. for their exemplary customer service and kindness to ensure my 1st time at Meijer was a truly memorable experience. In terms of getting my food purchasing game on, I'm happy to report that Meijer offers an outstanding selection of well-priced high quality produce, cheeses, international foods, meats, seafood, fresh baked goods and more. Bonus points for the "party store" and ample handicapped parking.

Google
Love shopping here but dont ask for my receipt when no one on not one register. Go hop on the damn Register. Mind you i had over $200 in groceries i had to ring and bag myself

I was there shopping one afternoon and over heard a conversation from the other room… a teen boy named “James” was taking some food, no more then about 100 or so bucks…it’s a shame the boy probably couldn’t afford it, I offered to pay for it…but they were more interested in showing this boy a lesson…

Google
Love stopping through Meijer just to check to see if there is a sale on my favorite frozen pizza... Home Run!! No luck today, but I definitely found a deal. There's nothing like ringing the Fall season with a Affy Tapple!!! And getting 2 for $1.50 isn't bad at all.💯‼️

Google
Prices are higher than almost anywhere else on 75% of items for exact same quality and quantity. No not recommend

Yelp
This is a great grocery store. It has a clean layout and a great selection. The prices are okay; it is not Walmart. Produce is plentiful, and the meat section is excellent. We are lucky on the Bowling Green metro to have them here. It gives balance and options.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE this store, and wish there was one closer to where we live in Pleasant View, TN. I used to shop at this store in Ohio and knew how great they are, so when I found this one in Bowling Green, I was delighted. They have the widest variety of produce, meats, canned goods, sundries, electronics, clothing, etc. Maybe it's a good thing they aren't closer because my entire Social Security check would go to them every month.

Yelp
Myers has the best pharmacy in Bowling Green if you can believe that they're never busy you're always at the desk in line most likely and they're there to help and they're friendly

Yelp
If I could give zero stars for Meijer, I would. I went to buy my weekly groceries and buy groceries for the holiday coming up which was Thanksgiving. I came up to the deli thinking oh great, no line finally, I can get right out of the deli with hardly any weight. Unfortunately, I guess for me the customer that was there the girl behind the deli was told by her manager to cut a bunch of meat for someone. She told me she had to finish that before she could wait on me and she pointed out her manager to me who was putting stock up. I went over to our manager and said is that true that she can't wait on me and she said very snotty.," ma'am she's waiting on someone else and when she's done, she'll wait on you!". All the while another deli girl is putting up stock and two girls are standing down the other side of the deli chitchatting. I felt so sorry for the girl behind the counter. She looked all flustered and kept telling me she was sorry and I told her I'm not mad at you. I just think this is really bad customer service. The girl behind the deli, then yelled down to one of the other girls to wait on the customers cause now two other people walked up behind me. The manager all the while ignored the whole situation. so a woman walked up and asked me what I wanted and I ordered my stuff and I spent about $30 at the deli and all in all my grocery bill came to $328. I wish Myers wasn't so convenient because I would not shop here anymore, but Kroger's deli only sells boars head which I don't like, and I won't step foot into Walmart. I think we need another grocery chain here to give Meijer a run for their money.

Yelp
The people who live here don't know what they are taking for granted. This place is beautiful and reminds me of Kmart nostalgia if it actually had succeeded. We drive up from Tennessee just for this location (because it's the closest and we have to take what we can get). This place has clothes, pet needs, pharmacy, auto & home accessories, an entire grocery store. So many amazing snacks we can't get back in middle Tennessee grocery stores. I love Meijer.

Yelp
Meijer is my "go to" grocery store for all the unusual things I want, need or eat bc a recipe calls for it...whatever it may be. Meijer was the 1st grocery store I experienced when I moved to OH 30 years ago. I like all the odd things they sell & they have normal things, too! Being from FL, I had never seen snow before but I saw it for the first time in the parking lot of Meijer! Wow! I've lived through all levels of snow storms here in NWO and 30 yrs l8r, I'm still standing & still in NWO!! And I still shop at that Meijer store in Bowling Green, OH! Happy to share. Happy to be here! What's FL? That old state? Never going back there...to live anyway! Meijer, I can always count on you even 30 years l8R!!

Yelp
Wow, this is an impressive Meijer. It's so clean and organized. I was visiting from out of town and had to get some things for my trip. This Meijer had them all and much more. I feel like this Meijer is even more stocked than the Meijer where I live in Indy, and everything is presented so nicely. One thing that's strange is that if you want to buy alcohol, you need to go to the "Meijer Party Store" that's adjacent to the main store. It has its own entrance and everything. This is where the bad, bad adult beverages are housed. Oh, Kentucky.
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
I/we were in Kentucky AND I HAD to find Beer Cheese. I went into the party spot. No Beer Cheese. I then entered the main store. It's gorgeous and ready for the holidays. I went over to the specialty cheese area. And in my excitement I overlooked it. I found red apple bourbon pecan cheese. Buy one get one 40% off. SCORE. I continued my search all the way over to shredded cheese and cream cheese. Nope. I ran into my husband and enlisted his aid. I went back to where I started AND LOW AND BEHOLD. BEER CHEESE! I heard angels sing. Although it is Michigan Beer Cheese, I am not complaining! Thank you, Meijer.

Yelp
Good selection of items in both the grocery and general store categories, plus helpful staff. We had trouble locating one item we had come in for, and a friendly staff person pointed us in the right direction. Checkout was efficient and we were in and out quickly, which was appreciated.

Yelp
Half of the time I shop at Meijer's in Bowling Green I have to visit customer service. When I check out I have to look over my receipt because of the many times after entering my Mperks number some of the Mperks items are not discounted. I understand the sale items displayed with the scissor icon, I get that they have to be clipped online but for regular Mperks items it's a hit or miss thing. I never have any problems with any of the Kroger stores and am tired of dealing with Meijer's.

Austin S.

Yelp
I enjoy my Meijer, BUT when you don't serve a menu item from your sushi bar, it's such a bummer. I went on Saturday afternoon to order their viral sushi burrito aka Sushirrito, but the sushi chef said they don't make it even though it's on their menu.

Yelp
Dirty and out of stock or outdated products in Shelf. YUCK!!! I won't be shopping here anymore

Yelp

Yelp
Wow! How do we get this company in TN? I am obsessed. I wouldn't ever in my life have to walk into a Walmart or a Target again. This would be my store of choice to get it all done in one stop. Please please come to TN. Middle TN could use this place.

Janine Y.

Yelp
Great selection and prices are competitive. Love going here for all of the senses to be fulfilled.

Yelp
Today was my first time stepping into a Meijer. We came looking for vegetables, but left a dumbfounded. Wow! This place has a impressive selection of fruits and vegetables. You will of course find your customary domestic ones. They also have unusual ones like aloe, rhubarb, Bok choy and artichoke hearts. Prices are fantastic. Lots of room. It seems like you can find all kinds of other stuff too. I couldn't get past the vegetables. I know that sounds corny. My kids like that penny mechanical horse at the exit. Someone even left a few extra pennies right there! That was a cherry on top!

Yelp
This is my pandemic review of Meijer. I've shopped all over BG, looking for the best produce, meat, dairy, and dry goods. Meijer wins hands down during the pandemic. They are way ahead of Kroger at keeping shelves stocked. Far fewer customers are unmasked. The lines at the registers are shorter. AND THEIR SHOPPING AISLES ARE WIDER THAN ANY OTHER STORE. This makes it easier for me to stay distanced and to quickly navigate the store to pick up what I need and then leave.

Yelp
Wish we had a Meijer in South Carolina! We used to shop at Meijer all the time when we lived up north. They have almost everything........except Topo Chico.

Kristy B.

Yelp
You know you're from Michigan when you drive an hour and a half each way to shop at Meijer. Seriously, I need a Meijer in Tennessee. My heart is so happy there is one now within driving distance. For those that don't understand Meijer it's like Walmart and Publix had a baby. Seriously, it has some of the best produce and off the wall hard to find ingredients. It's a staple I grew up with, if Meijer didn't have it nobody would have it.

Ciera L.

Yelp
the worst customer service I've ever experienced in a long time plus the website said they had a certain item in stock and they didn't.. the employee wasn't much help asked me where something is but you work here. took me over 20 minutes to even get help I'm beyond pissed.

Yelp
I know it's not extraordinarily helpful to review chains on Yelp but I really do love Meijer so I will anyways! My husband and I are on a poor grad student budget so I'm trying to be mindful of shopping. Unfortunately, Walmart is usually the cheapest but they don't have the variety that I would like. (Also, I just hate continuing the walmart empire.) The first time I'd ever been to a Meijer was in Michigan when I was younger. My great uncle would take me to ride the 1 cent pony rides at the front of the store (always great fun) and I remember they had a big candy aisle and we were always allowed to get a back of our favorite. Flash forward 20 years and now I'm in Bowling Green with very limited healthy food options. Meijer is a little pricier than walmart, generally, but they have a huge produce section and a better variety of the healthy items (yogurt, meat, tea, produce, etc). I really just love walking around in here looking at stuff, even if I don't need anything. There's always a new product I haven't heard of or a deal I didn't know about that make it worth the trip. They have a good pharmacy section, some household items, fish, clothing, pet supplies, and many other things. If you plan to come regularly, get the MPerks account to find coupons and save some money. (Sad note: this store doesn't have the bulk candy aisle, which is sad for me but maybe healthy for the general population of Bowling Green...)

Yelp
Clean restroom, floor plan is well thought out, and the staff are very nice and friendly. Separate place for alcohol, benches inside to sit for anyone that needs it. Really like shopping here. Thanks to the employees for all they do!

Yelp
Normally I don't have a problem but today I was doing my shopping with my service dog, and I was told that dogs are not allowed in the store. I has asked this MANAGER if she wanted to pet my dog because she looked upset. I keep my service dog in a small stroller with a back flap where she can nudge me to alert me, because I have had people try to steal her. But instead of asking if my dog is a service animal, she said we don't allow dogs in the store. When I tried to say that she is my ptsd support service animal, the manager said even louder, "we don't allow dogs". And walked off. NO RESPECT FOR THOSE WITH DISABILITIES.

Robert M.

Yelp
Meijer is a nice, one stop store. Think Walmart Superstore with better quality all around. Always nice and clean (so much better upkeep than Walmart) and prices are decent. Wish that there were locations in Tennessee as I can only go occasionally since I live in Nashville.

Johnny A.

Yelp
Going in at 11:00 pm or anytime after the manager "Richard" will start saying when it's 11:30 pm he will say the store closes in 15 minutes. Was there at 11:45 pm on 10/9/21 and he announced to shoppers you have 8 minutes to come to the front. Guest he didn't learn how to tell time in school

Alex F.

Yelp
Meijer is the best store to go to! It is way better than Walmart. Everyone is super nice and helpful!

Yelp
I drove up from Nashville to visit this store. Well worth the time and effort. A great taste of Michigan in a nearby locale. Bring a store to Nashville (particularly Hendersonville), and I'll add a star and shop there twice a week!

Yelp
I worked at this store as a vendor a couple years ago. Their management is top notch. They are by far the best Meijer store I've ever worked at.
google avatar

Yelp
You know its bad when you walk into a store and an employee is going to run you over with a pallet full of product because they are more worried about playing or texting on their phone. Instead of paying attention and when realizing they made a mistake not even apologizing or anything. Another bad sign is when your cashier (Jahem) answers your question rudely and hatefully cause you ask if you have a bag big enough for the cushions you bought. Its also bad when they have empty stacks of pallets in the middle of a floor blocking your shopping path so you can't get to anything in that aisle. Stayed away for over 6 months thinking that things would get better after complaining to Corporate but appears things are just as bad if not worse.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely amazed with all of the quality products offered and organic food available! I have a specific diet that requires gluten free options and the selection here is phenomenal!!

Kevin K.

Yelp
Ok, so I never do this...I'm never a complainer and absolutely never post things on Facebook. But I have to share my experience at Meijer in Bowling Green. For the first time in a long time my wife experienced racism. While I was unloading our cart, she went to start the transaction at customer service to purchase gift cards for our foster youth with my company. I was going to come and purchase once I was done. When my wife went and set the cards on the counter the store manager told her they can't do that due to fraud. My wife explained to her that we already purchased half of the cards Friday with no issue. She said again, we can't allow fraud and we will not allow you to do this. My wife came and got me, and when I asked her, she told me it's Sunday we just need to make a phone call as long as my wife doesn't yell at her. Wtf?? My wife did not yell at her. How am I any different? My wife was dressed up and I was in sweatpants. I asked to speak to her again and she would not apologize to my wife, would not look her in the eyes, and wouldn't accept what she had done which was refuse service to my wife for her skin color and not to me because of mine. And then refusing to apologize just did it for me. We were going to be spending almost $2,000 after spending $400 for groceries. Guess that only matters for whites and not browns. To top it off we had explained it was for foster youth, My wife had my company's mask on and I had my company card. We were told didn't matter who it was for. I guess customer service doesn't exist at Meijer. We believe her name is Patricia. If you are in Bowling Green please share this. It is unacceptable behavior.

Yelp
Completely enjoy the experience at Meijer. Not only do I work here but I shop here as well. They always have fresh fruits and veggies and so many to choose from. Using my Mperks always saves me money and no matter what I always get good groceries and always find what I am looking for. If I was everybody I would always shop at Meijer.
google avatar

Cyndy S.

Yelp
Meijer was the best place to shop in. Bowling Green until recently....something has changed! The staff isn't as friendly, carts are harder to find, food quality isn't as well looked after. I'm so disappointed. I can't believe I'm saying this but Walmart is the most welcoming best managed grocery store in Bowling Green!
google avatar

Juliana M.

Yelp
The only reason this isn't getting 5 stars is because there's no bulk candy aisle like there is in most meijer stores. But if I could rate it 4.99 stars, I would. The people at the pharmacy are super nice and know me by name (they also know my birthdate off the top of their heads, maybe I need to stop going to the pharmacy so often) Better variety of things than Walmart by far, and a lot more locally produced things than Kroger and Walmart combined. You can get almost anything you would ever need at meijer, even live fish to put in your tank.
google avatar

Zach S.

Yelp
I've worked here for over a year now. It's not perfect, but it is a good, friendly place. There are some wonderful sales every now and then and the overall prices are generally good. The store is clean and we provide decent customer service. Overall, a great place to work and a good place to shop.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
I had never been to a Meijer and was pleasantly surprised at the selection of produce available. I came up from Nashville on an unrelated errand and stopped in for a few things and ended up finishing out my grocery shopping here. I loved all the non-typical produce and the meat selection seemed great too. That being mixed in with having a better shopping experience than you would have at a Walmart without the markup of Target made it all the better. It wont be my every day store due to distance but i definitely will be working it in at least once a month.
google avatar

Craig J.

Yelp
Possibly worst meijers I have ever been inside of. Selection is closer to that of wal mart and less like the meijers I have visited in Louisville and Lexington. Please model this store after Lexington stores. Wow was so excited to get a meijers and this store just does not compare to other locations.

Yelp
I have found Meijer to be a very nice place to shop given the alternatives of Krogers and Walmart. However, my experience just with two things is a major frustration with this store. Off and on I never can get International Delight White Chocolate Raspberry Cream nor Jumbo eggs. I just don't understand the management of the store when things like these have a space and are out as often as they are. It is frustrating since if the International Delight is not there I am forced to go to Walmart that always has it. Meijer's eggs are just better than what we have found at Krogers or Walmart. SO while I like the store, I get frustrated with it and that is unfair to customers. I spoke to a clerk at check out when I got the usual did you find everything. Well - I mentioned the cream and the response was "someone complained about something about International Delight yesterday". That did not help me. At least the time before, the clerk called and alerted someone. It reappeared and then disappeared. Yesterday I had a short list of things and could not find 3 out of 6 things on my list...that is awful for a grocery store...awful. Redeeming value to most of the store but for me a frustration.
