Yelp
I know it's not extraordinarily helpful to review chains on Yelp but I really do love Meijer so I will anyways! My husband and I are on a poor grad student budget so I'm trying to be mindful of shopping. Unfortunately, Walmart is usually the cheapest but they don't have the variety that I would like. (Also, I just hate continuing the walmart empire.) The first time I'd ever been to a Meijer was in Michigan when I was younger. My great uncle would take me to ride the 1 cent pony rides at the front of the store (always great fun) and I remember they had a big candy aisle and we were always allowed to get a back of our favorite. Flash forward 20 years and now I'm in Bowling Green with very limited healthy food options. Meijer is a little pricier than walmart, generally, but they have a huge produce section and a better variety of the healthy items (yogurt, meat, tea, produce, etc). I really just love walking around in here looking at stuff, even if I don't need anything. There's always a new product I haven't heard of or a deal I didn't know about that make it worth the trip.
They have a good pharmacy section, some household items, fish, clothing, pet supplies, and many other things. If you plan to come regularly, get the MPerks account to find coupons and save some money.
(Sad note: this store doesn't have the bulk candy aisle, which is sad for me but maybe healthy for the general population of Bowling Green...)
