Best Dishes D.C. Editors Ate This Week: August 25 | Eater DC

"I already know that talented Ethiopian chef Elias Taddesse’s remixed takes on fast-food favorites are great, from beefy burgers (Melange) to berbere-spiced fried chicken (Doro Soul Food), and I couldn’t wait to try both of his popular takeout menus under one roof. Shaw’s new sit-down restaurant Melange Foods breathes new life into the old Roy Boys space, complete with for-sale paintings from local artists and a yellow wall splashed with punny slogans like “YOUHADMEATDOROWAT.” Sitting at a high-top seat near the breezy patio bar, I devoured a three-piece portion of his famed tenders alongside spins on American sides. A circular skillet of doro wat-flavored mac and cheese gets a fabulous crunch from injera bread crumbs, and coleslaw jazzed up with turmeric mayo came in a bigger portion than I expected. I ended up taking my butter aioli-slathered burger home, and I’ll have to come back to try Taddesse’s new takes on tacos (Moya)." - Eater Staff

DC's New Restaurant Openings - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Mélange and Doro Soul Food now have a new home inside Mélange Foods, Inc., a food hall in Shaw from chef Elias Taddesse. If you've been to those spots you know to expect burgers, Ethiopian-inspired fried chicken, and plenty of berbere. Moya, an upcoming spot serving tacos with Ethiopian flavors, will be opening in the space soon." - omnia saed

The Best New Restaurants in D.C., July 2025 | Eater DC

"Top Ethiopian chef Elias Taddesse’s beefy burger shop, Mélange DC, and fried chicken joint, Doro Soul Food, are back and better than ever at his new culinary incubator at the foot of Shaw’s Atlantic Plumbing building. Taddesse’s Mélange Foods, Inc. opened in mid-May with both concepts and will add a third Ethiopian taco spot called Moya soon. The space that formerly housed Roy Boys features a roll-up garage bar situation prime for people-watching." - Eater Staff

The Biggest New Restaurant Openings in D.C., May 2025 | Eater DC

"Top Ethiopian chef Elias Taddesse reopens two concepts inside a new culinary incubator in Shaw’s Atlantic Plumbing building: a beefy burger shop (Mélange DC) and a fried chicken counter (Doro Soul Food), with a planned third concept, an Ethiopian taco spot called Moya, arriving later this spring. The incubator centralizes the chef’s casual concepts and signals a return and expansion of his restaurant activity in the neighborhood." - Tierney Plumb
