"Everything about this grocer-dining hall hybrid in Van Nuys screams Argentinian. There's soccer memorabilia galore, shelves lined with mate brands, and murals of Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi gracing the walls. Patriotism aside, Mercado Buenos Aires also has a long menu of classic comfort foods, like juicy choripanes coated in a sharp chimichurri, fried empanadas, and a sizzling parrilla Buenos Aires (for two) that comes with housemade chorizo and short ribs that are so tender the meat peels off the bone. " - Sylvio Martins

"Mercado Buenos Aires is a family-owned Argentine restaurant and market offering a wide variety of traditional foods and imports. The venue, taken over by chef Paul Rodriguez in 2009, is known for its meat-heavy menu, including the popular Parrillada Buenos Aires and traditional Argentine empanadas. The market stocks hard-to-find Argentine products, and the dining area features a mural of Buenos Aires and portraits of soccer players. The place is a community hub, hosting events and gatherings." - Courtney Lichterman

"This Van Nuys spot is more than just a mercado – it’s a full-fledged operation that doubles as a grocer and dining hall for every Argentinian comfort food imaginable. And if the name doesn’t make it blatantly obvious, the mural of Lionel Messi watching over you as you scarf down empanadas confirms that this place is as Argentinian as it gets. Those empanadas also happen to be very good and come either baked with a flakey, golden crust or fried for a crispier, more crumbly exterior. Breakfast is also a treat, with the Papa Francisco plate being our go-to – crustless ham and cheese toasties topped with a fried egg that bursts on top. Dinner at Mercado Buenos Aires isn’t complete without the parrilla completa (ideally for two) that comes with skirt steak, tender short ribs, and some tangy marinated grilled chicken. And whatever you do, do not leave without a slice of their creamy flan with a scoop of decadent dulce de leche on the side. It’s a lot, arguably even too much, but frankly, that logic rarely applies to dessert." - Sylvio Martins

"The parrilladas at Mercado Buenos Aires are always an impressive display of morcilla sausage, short ribs, and other sizzling meats, making it a great option for weekend BBQ with friends. Their baked empanadas are also on the bigger end, and come both nicely browned and filled to the brim with Argentinian favorites like spicy chorizo. This sausage empanada is a must-try with its spicy paprika flavor. Its onion and tomato filling is cooked down to a sweet sofrito that releases its juices the moment you bite in." - Sylvio Martins

Excellent place for everyone who likes Latin American food. Not to mention the Argentines who feel "at home" there. Very good food, service, market and quality in general. After watching the Cops America 2024, I absolutely decided to come back there for that events that mean a lot for argentinaans. Only with reservation which made it work excellent. Servers were in a very good mood although they were so busy with such a crowded place. Everything ran smoothly and happiness was contagious to the extreme. 👍👍

Was so excited to try this spot yesterday. Walked in, no greet stood there for a while reading the menu on my phone and reviews. I had to walk up to the lil bar stool area and asked for menu and was told to order with the cashier while they were waiting other guests. I stood in line for a bit before the lady came up to me to take my order. Got that breakfast Francisco sandwich which was good and two empanadas and two pastries .. best in LA. Got the food except for the sandwich which was suppose to be ten min. After about 15 I stood up and waited. Saw a plate sitting there for a while. Eventually I walked up to the counter after like 22 min and asked. Was told it was coming and a min later there it is. Got in the car and it was cold so it was just sitting there for a while. Maybe I spoke the wrong Spanish.. or look British but just a Mexican guy here....but yea this experience was interesting. I like the pride taken behind the business and all the cool stuff to see and check out like jerseys and paintings of the famous soccer players.

I wouldn't recommend this place to try Argentinian food ,it's just a place that cooks everything just like every other restaurant, they use the same meat except maybe for the chorizo, chinchulines or morcilla. I order a chroripan because it's hard to miss on it, but I really wouldn't come back just for that. My wife had a couple of empanadas that weren't bad but not the best either. We visited because I wanted to try things that I haven't tried before like mollejas and a fugazzeta pizza, which is in the menu that they have on Google maps and one of the reasons I picked the place, the problem is that the actual menu in the restaurant is not the same. After asking, the waitress told me that they could make a fugazzeta but they were going to upcharge for it so I said it was ok, it really disappointed me because it was just a premade pizza with cheese and onions, not even a good amount as it's supposed to. The mollejas were ok but not grilled I'm pretty sure they were deep fried. The thing that I liked is that the actual mercado has a lot of Argentinian stuff I bought yerba mate, they have beer, candy and Argentinian cuts.

Amazing food! We absolutely loved everything we ordered! For starters we had beef, ham&cheese and entrana fried empanadas which were all amazing (our favorite was the beef). Then we took the parilla chica and milanese napolitana that came with mashed potatoes and fries… OMG so good! The entrées are very large, we could barely finish them… We had to try some of their desserts as well so we ordered the flan, which was too eggy for us, and the torta borracha which had the perfect combination of alcohol and sweetness. I wish I had more photos! We honestly can’t wait to come back again and try some more dishes.

It's a bakery and restaurant and market at the same time, so do not come here for a quiet meal because it won't be. However, the food is delicious, and the service is friendly! Just for the dulce de leche crepe, I would drive the 30-40 minutes to eat here!

Always a treat whenever I’m in town. Whether I’m getting breakfast or lunch this place doesn’t disappoint. Just a heads up though parking is difficult especially during their busy times.
