The food was tasty, though it leaned on the basic side. They catered well to our dietary needs, which was appreciated. However, the staff seemed grumpy and didn’t look thrilled to be there, which detracted from the overall experience. There was also a sense of being rushed out once we’d finished our meal. Still, it’s a convenient spot to grab dinner before heading to the theater.

This place is a great spot with warm ambience and good Italian food. The food was good. Really enjoyed the fried artichokes and the semifreddo dessert (if you like nutty ice cream). Pastas are homemade.

Food was incredibly bland, and was something, quite frankly I could’ve cooked up better in my own kitchen. The portion size for both the appetizer and entree was embarrassing, given what we paid. Drinks were overpriced, a dirty martini was the same price as my entree —which makes no sense…and was not even a proper dirty martini. The atmosphere was okay, although our server seemed to pay no attention to our table. When it came to paying the bill and we thought we may be able to discuss our frustrations with our waitress, she really avoided eye contact with us altogether. We paid, and promptly left. Unfortunately, I would not go here again, and was very disappointed as I was looking forward to a delicious first meal after living abroad for ten months, but was not impressed.

Food was delicious. Service was great. Atmosphere was warm and inviting. We were seated in the alcove, at a tiny table, which seemed VERY closed in. We asked, and they moved us to a front window table, which was very small but much better seating arrangement. Food was delicious. Ravioli with sage butter was suggested by the guy at the table next to us. Great recommendation. I had spaghetti with ragu sauce. Delicious. Highly recommend this place but make reservations.

Work lunch with the team. It could not go any better! Authentic flavors, the dishes are assembled in the way you would expect: right ingredients, simple and tasty. The service was nice, and the atmosphere was cozy. Highly recommended: Orecchiette, Fave bean puree. I would not order the bruschetta again as it's just 2 pieces and costs more than 10 dollars (not worth it and you can easily make it at home). Cannoli are made at order, which is how it should be when you go for Italian cuisine.

The restaurant atmosphere is cozy and pleasant. Our server was courteous (although not really all that friendly) so no complaints there. I felt our appetizer was very bland. The drinks were meh. My entree was good as was my partner’s; although his portion of ravioli was very small. Overall an okay restaurant but with the numerous options in the area, we won’t be back.

We went to this restaurant because it had several Michelin stars. We had heard of it. We were enjoying my birthday celebration, and at the end it was all ruined. They came ten before midnight asking if we wanted anything from the bar, I ordered a savory negroni. Not five minutes after it had been served, a latino waiter came to the table and asked us to leave in Spanish because they were closing. Yet they did not have the balls to ask the table next to us to leave because they were French-Canadian. We confronted the waiter, he told us he was just following orders. What a shame! Now regarding the food we manifested the bread was not up to par with what one expects in an Italian restaurant, especially in one that has earned Michelin stars. The bread was extremely chewy and unsavory with insignificant alveoli. A nice italian hard crispy crust and large nice alveoli would go much better with the plates offered as with the lentil and caper tapenade they serve. The Orvieto Argillae white wine was perfect. We ordered as appetizers the carpaccio di manzo, the polpo et patate, and the carciofini fritti. We loved the octopus appetizer, we liked a lot the carpaccio. We had the Malloreddus al Sugo di Cinghiale, the Linguine al Frutti di Mare and the Tagliata di Manzo. We enjoyed the three, each on its own merit. Even though it felt the pasta had been microwaved, as it came extremely pipping hot. We were never given the chance to order dessert or a digestive. As I mentioned before we would have had a great experience if the would not have been so rude and racists. This the low number of stars.

Cozy place, great atmosphere, service is very good. I ordered fettuccine al fungi, wasn't very lucky. Pasta was al dente, perfect but not flavourful. My friends ordered hamburger and they loved it. I suggest visiting Mercato for sure.

I came in on a Sunday night and it wasn't packed at all the service was fast the food came in fast and delicious! Totally recommend

Wow. In a city of every type of cuisine and at any hour, Mercato stands out. Ambiance was cozy and warm. Staff was attentive and friendly. The food was the star, from our apps of carpaccio and grilled octopus, to our four pasta choices; and finally the tiramisu and fried risotto balls. This place deserves their accolades. Simple yet complex flavors presented in each item and each course. Try it for yourself!

Because of its location, this is a solid choice before seeing a show. Service was friendly and attentive. I got the sense chef is not afraid to experiment. In general, I really enjoyed the flavors. We shared deep-fried artichokes, carpaccio, and fave e cicoria (fava beans with chicory). I would not have ordered fava beans and chicory, but it was well worth the experience. For my main course, I had one of the daily specials, a lamb ragu with pasta. Also, I had a cocktail and a glass of wine. We were a group of three and my share was about $90 including tax and tip. Overall, this was a good value considering price, service, and quality. I would easily return.

Nice quaint place. Food was spot on. Small boutique restaurant- I really enjoyed the food here. Loved the calamari, shrimp and cod fish appetizer- great combo. The burrata was fresh and tasty. Sorry my pics came out all blurry.

What a gem. Food is excellent! Small, little Italian spit. If you like a quaint restaurant with good wine and food stop by Mercato. Mushroom pasta is such a delight with a light sauce. They offer mixed cocktails as well as wine.

Good food and service - came here for lunch for the holidays with a group. They can get quite busy here so best to know what you want especially with a big group. Menu: plenty of options to select from - there is something for everyone. The homemade ravioli filled with spinach and ricotta was nice and light but filling given we were all going to eat again in a couple of hours. Everyone enjoyed their dishes - including the fettucine with wild mushrooms, homemade, spaghetti, gnocchi, and grilled salmon. portions may look small but they are filling. Nice space for groups in the back and glad they were able to accommodate same day reservation for lunch. Will definitely come back to try other dishes..

With zero prior knowledge, and it being picked by a savvy teammate, we went to Mercato last night. I was thrilled to see a Michelin Star rating and all I could think of was the show, The Bear. For some reason I equated this to a magical experience. Mercato did not disappoint, and I'll start with the wait staff. They were attentive and the dishes were fired with great timing, and the staff was properly attentive. A host of Italian standards and some a bit more funky, the menu has lots of options - but not too many. We narrowed it down to the beef carpaccio and the eggplant parm special to start. They served bread with oil loaded with capers, which was a nice touch of difference versus a chain Italian basic. For my main dish, I ordered the malloreddus al sugo di cinghiale (homemade sardinian cavatelli with braised wild boar ragu). Taking a risk, as I'm not one to usually get wild / game meats. The tiny cavatelli were beautiful, the wild boar ragu was dark and subtle. A fresh shredded bit of Parmesan goodness made it pop! I ordered a shareable side of fingerling potatoes which were solid, and not overly salted. For dessert, I ordered a shareable portion of tiramisu, which was gorgeously silken and a perfect treat.

Came on a Saturday night and had a reservation for 6:30Pm we waited about 15 minutes after the 6:30PM reservation to be seated. Our server Roberta was excellent, the food was bland and the ambiance was excellent. Just wished the food was better. We shared four appetizers Rucola, carciofini fitti, salsiccia E patate and the Polpo E patate. One major flaw was the sausage looked and tasted exactly like breakfast sausage long and thin. I've been to Italy and I have never seen this type of sausage throughout all of Italy. We had the The salmon and even though the menu states Chicory, it was spinach. The fettucine and mushrooms and the cavatelli with wild boar. The wine we ordered was good and at a fair price Nero di troia Botromagno. I really wanted to like this place as the service and ambiance was above average for sure but the food just missed totally.

I ordered the Linguine AI Frutti DI MARE. It had mussels,Calamari,shrimp,and clams, with a spicy tomato sauce. I started off with real Italian bread, unlike the other bread I was served at other restaurants . The bread was delicious, however the capers and oil had no real flavor. The pasta with fish was very good. It was loaded with fish and very tasty. I got extra bread to mop up the sauce at the end. The sauce had a nice fish flavor and was not spicy . It's a small cozy restaurant.

By far the most dissatisfied Italian restaurant I've been to. Went here based on the reviews and the assumption that we would be satisfied. First and foremost the appetizer plates were very dirty and so were the cocktail glasses. We were glad not to have ordered appetizers. Main course, we had pasta and it was the quickest we've gotten our pasta ~less than 5 minutes, as if it was premade. Our waiter also didn't share the specials for the day (but did for the table next to us) nor did he check up on us (1 time towards the end only!), instead the busboy did!Flabbergasted! This was a horrible experience and even more disappointing especially since we were starving. Definitely subpar!

I went to Mercato with a group of 4 and we were seated in the surprisingly large back area. We placed our drink, appetizer, and main course orders and waited about 45 minutes just to find out the orders had never been placed. Our server was unapologetic about this and took our orders again. We waited another 10 minutes and received our appetizer, but they had lost our drink orders again. After a total of just over an hour and a half, we received our dishes. We were split with two people enjoying the food and two not caring for it (I personally didn't think it was very good, but it wasn't awful.) Within a few minutes of receiving our food, we were warned that they were closing soon and we'd have to leave. We had about 10 minutes before they turned off the lights on us. When I went to pay the bill, a 20% gratuity had been applied despite our party of only 4 (it should be applied for parties of 5 or more only according to their menu.) They were again unapologetic and we were rushed to pay and get out. There were no compensations or apologies. I always leave a tip of 20% or more anyway, but having it forced on us to avoid a lower tip due to their poor service made it frustrating. The food was disappointing to me, though others in the group thought it was okay. The service, however, was universally condemned and the worst I've personally encountered in NYC. We left angry.

Have been here for both dinner and lunch. it was very good both times and we would definitely go back. My guests loved their meals. The food was fresh and I appreciated their GF and V options. The GF panini roll was the best I ever had. Very enjoyable. The filet mignon panini was very good, although I wished the filet was sliced thinly instead of chunky. Meatballs and polenta was thoroughly enjoyed, and salad and chicken cutlet was nicely flavored. Steak was good and branzino was flaky, nicely cooked and delicately flavored. It gets crowded at night - get reservations, especially since this is a new spot and popular. Bar area is very inviting and noisy at night, but other areas are quieter. I don't know why it is called Mercato since there is no market to buy things - it would have been a nice addition to have an area to buy specialty, curated, unique Italian products. Also, the music has no connection to Italian. Perhaps at night it has to be American for the bar crowd, but some modern Italian music at lunch would have been nice. Avoid upstairs - it's too dark and getting up the stairs can be challenging for those with physical issues. Service was generally good, with potential areas of improvement.

I have traveled across the United States, into Italy various locations in Europe and Mercato provided me with a truly delicious experience that will rival and win against the fresh hand crafted dishes made in every other location . walking in to this quaint picturesque eatery reminded me of being in Neumarkt, Italy where the narrow structure has exposed brick walls, simple decorations that looked to be handed down or perhaps never left. soft lighting, and joyful, authentic faces of what reminded me of a family meal, excited to share their stories and love of their craft. We were seatted immediately in front of large windows facing the busy New York neighborhood draped in scaffolding required to support the changes required toll that open to walking traffic outside. a small dish of lentils, capers and olive oil, fresh baked bread, simple but delicious kicked off our meal. The smooth texture and balanced flavors set the tone for what was to be the best meal we enjoyed in New York. All of the pasta was hand made, wide noodles, hand cut gnocchi, and firm spaghetti was absolutely delicious. The spaghetti with rich pomodoro sauce was well balanced and held large slices of sweet aromatic garlic. The linguini fungi was intensely flavorful, truly one of the favorites. Every nibble led me to understand how they achieved their Michelin star. I am not sure why there is not a long line down the block, but I will look forward to traveling back to New York and Mercato as soon as possible. Do not let the opportunity pass you by.

I reserved for 4 at 5:30 on a Saturday. There was plenty of space. More people came in for a later dinner. The decor is cute and comfortable. It'd be a nice date spot. We got the Sauvignon blanc which was good. I tried the fettuccine ai funghi and affogato. We all enjoyed the food. Servers were nice.

What a quaint restaurant in the Garment District. We had a lunch reservation prior to a Broadway matinee. The interior has a very old European vibe. Service was very professional and attentive. I did think it was odd that they wouldn't serve us the bread until our fourth guest arrived. Al the food was delicious and ingredients fresh. The serving sizes were appropriate for the price point. Four of us ate for $125 before tip, 4 entrees, 1 wine and 1 coffee. We arrived at our reservation time and were qseated at a table by the front window. It was fun watching all the people pass by. We were the first in the restaurant at lunch time but as we sat there were several large parties arrived. There was a plaque on the wall stating it was Michelin rated. Mercator is an easy walk to the Broadway theaters and worth a visit.

Based off the hangings on the wall this place has won some Michelin stars and what I had definitely didn't let down. It looks small looking in from outside but there is seating in the back. The service was friendly and even though we didn't have a reservation on the Saturday they made room for us. The server we had was very knowledgeable and took her time to go over daily specials. The food was so delicious we came here twice on the weekend trip. The first night I decided to order the Spezzatino di Manzo al Primitivo. It was delicious! So juicy and the gravy with it just made the whole dish. My husband said the gnocchi was delicious as well. However the second night I ordered the same dish (creature of habit) and it was nowhere as good as it was the night before. There was barely any gravy which made the meat tough instead of buttery soft. That little blip is not enough to keep me from coming back next time in nyc. 5/5

We came to Mercato on a Wednesday evening. The spot was intimate and there were a good number of people dining. We ordered the lasagna. The food came out superr quickly - we were both super impressed. The lasagna was a huge portion and super yummy.

Good restaurant for the neighborhood. A little tight inside, but manageable. Food is pretty good - the appetizers were all very good. Worth ordering a bunch of apps and sharing. Maybe skip entrees. Service was absolutely pleasant and efficient. Didn't do desert, a few things looked interesting.

Not sure what the lower star ratings are all about - that wasn't our dining experience at all! We were a party of 3 girls on a fun long (cold, wet, snow flurried) winter/January weekend in the City. It was the perfect first (Friday) night in town and we were iso a little local spot close to our hotel (midtown near Penn Station) that we could go to to hang out over a non-rushed home cooked meal, some wine and good conversation. MERCATO WAS JUST WHAT WE HAD ENVISIONED AND FIT THE BILL PERFECTLY. It was a Friday night, late-ish (730 ish) when we found Mercato on (where else?!!) Yelp in our hotel room. THIS PLACE IS OPEN TILL MIDNIGHT EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. Wow! That's AMAZING. PRO TIP1: HIGHLY RECOMMEND HAVING DINNER HERE AFTER THE SUN SETS! Why? Because this place is soooooo magical, beautiful, inviting and elegant AT NIGHT. Candlelit tables, low dimmed room lighting really makes you feel like you are in what I might envision a small, intimate place in the Italian countryside to be like! Soooo charming! (Let's put it this way, in terms of super moody lighting, I had to turn on my phone's flashlight to read the menu ha!) Mercato takes reservations - another plus for them - we didn't make them because we were looking for something that night that we could walk to but I would probably recommend making them if you're a larger party because this place is pretty small (which gives it its charm!) but can accommodate larger parties in their cozy back dining area. Great place and choice for a date night btw - cozy, intimate, personal with great service - they don't rush you - just a great ambience for a romantic private dinner. We arrived around 8PM (on a Fri mind you) and we had no issues getting a table (for 3) without a wait. We did notice the Michelin plaques on the wall just inside the entrance as some Yelpers have noted. The place was decently filled but not packed or crowded and I noticed that all the diners were enjoying their time there. Larger groups, a family with small children, couples. PRO TIP2: if you come for dinner after sundown (my Pro Tip1), ask to be seated in the back dining area! It's so cozy, warm, moody and intimate. A great gathering area and, in the winter, further away from outside drafts coming from the front entrance. I did note there are some fun seating options in the bar area up front as you walk in the door - right along the front window that looked really cool and vibey - if you see an available "window table," go for that I would say. Also - IF YOU'RE A SOLO DINER, the bar area right when you walk through the door looks super cool! I would come here by myself for a sit-at-the-bar meal and/or for a glass of wine or a cocktail. The menu is not massive - good down home Italian selections for everyone. We each had a different pasta entree. All were delicious. Pastas were perfectly chewy al dente. Sauces were perfect compliments to the dish - not oversauced, sauced just right. Prices were reasonable (for NYC!), portion sizes were decent. They served a complimentary bread basket with a small dipping bowl of olive oil with capers (agree with one reviewer - the capers were unnecessary and did not enhance the flavor of the dip lol - so we asked for another side of oil olive and asked for parm cheese which the server hand-grinded into it. We then added salt and pepper to it and - voila! A perfect dip!) Fresh ground parm cheese - nice touch and the sign of a true authentic Italian restaurant! In myyyyy book anyway. :) Glasses of wine were on the slightly expensive side - we are not wine aficionados so good wine is totally lost on us lol - but this place does seem to pride itself on its wine selection - in fact, we sat next to their corner wine cellar which was pretty darn impressive and was a decor statement piece in that back dining area - it gave their wine stock a legit air for sure. There were also shelves full of bottles of wine scattered throughout the restaurant. LOVED THE AMBIENCE HERE. THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT. No issues whatsoever. In fact, we had probably about 4 different people serving us, stopping over to check on us, etc. Not in an annoying way or with the intention of rushing us out the door. We were able to enjoy a nice, leisurely dinner and were one of the last parties in that back room to leave. To cap off our meal, we decided to try the Semifreddo dessert. OMG. SOOOOOO GOOOOOD. Look at my pic. This is no store bought dessert! BEAUTIFULLY PLATED AND PRESENTED AND EVEN MORE DELICIOUS THAN IT LOOKED ON THE PLATE!!! Shareable if your small party wants just a palette-cleansing, refreshing taste. Our Mercato dinner on our first night in the City really set the bar for the rest of the trip. So into small, local, charming restaurants serving delicious housemade creations providing exceptional service by experienced staff. And we didn't pay an arm and a leg for the entire dining experience. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND MERCATO.

Stopped by for some dinner while staying next door at Hyatt while in NY. Small intimate restaurant with nice staff members. We shared meatballs and baby artichokes. The artichokes were lightly fried with lemon sauce and fresh ricotta and were delicious. Meatballs were rich and moist in a delicious red sauce and fresh basil. Nice place while in NY.

We looked for Caceo e pepe, and they did not disappoint. Our meals were excellent. Great service and a wonderful time. ​

This is a very romantic place with great wine and attentive service. My only concern is that I received only 5(!) raviolis in my entree! 5 raviolis for $22?? This sounds more like an appetizer to me and guests should be warned that they will not fill themselves up when ordering them.

The wine was old like the bottle had been open for days. The fried artichoke tasted like old oil. It was terrible.

Mediocre Italian food with mediocre service. I ordered the Lasagna Tradizionale ($24), which did not really have any cheese in it (until I asked to add parmesan on top). It was also kind of flavorless aside from the tomato sauce and was too soft/mushy. I also tried the Fettuccine al Funghi ($20), which, on the other hand, was a bit too hard. This led me to believe that the pastas are not freshly made. The mushrooms in the fettuccine were pretty good though. Some of the staff are friendly, but our waitress was not that friendly and had a bit of an attitude (gave unhappy looks when we said we weren't interested in dessert or when asked to clarify menu items). It also took them a while to take our order after being seated, but then the food came pretty quickly. It was quite crowded inside on a Saturday night, although we were able to get a table without a reservation. There is a bar and multiple other areas with table seating. The dim lighting adds to a more intimate atmosphere. Overall, I was not impressed by the pasta or service at Mercato. It's not the worst Italian restaurant I've been to in the city, but it's definitely far from the best.

Verona was kind, considerate, and gave excellent advice. The tiramisu and lasagna were also very noteworthy dishes. I'll be back!What a treasure trove! The food was wonderful and the staff was friendly. Verona gave excellent recommendations and was kind and attentive. Will return!

We went to Mercato for desserts. The host who made us sit was exceptionally nice and made us seated and gave us the dessert menu. Ambiance of the restaurant was very cute as well. My sister and I ordered Tiramisu and their Almond Tarrone icecream. Both desserts were insanely tasty. Above all our host/server was very nice and kind and was giving ua some tips what to order next time when we come back for the food. I highly recommend this place should you have any yummy desire.

Great food! Cozy atmosphere and great wait service. The pasta is homemade and the portions are appropriately proportionate.

Went here for dinner tonight. They sat us at a small table in the front near the window. The place has some cool character to it, with brick walls. Service was okay, nothing special. The food was mediocre. They told us about a special appetizer which was fried dough with sprinkled cheese and marinara sauce. It turned out to be a couple tiny pizzas and was the most expensive item on our bill, $22. What a sneaky move that was. The sliced bread was dry and came with some odd lentil and oil mix in a bowl, that tasted pasty. I asked for butter and the female server immediately said they don't have any. What kitchen doesn't carry butter?! The three meatball appetizer I had was awful. Mushy meatballs that tasted like too much bread crumbs and it came with hard dry bread. The rigatoni Norma dish had too hard noodles and lacked flavor. My Diet Coke was 3/4 ice. Needless to say this place is far from authentic Italian food. A total rip off.

I was a little hesitant to come to Mercato because I've been to some other highly rated Italian restaurants in NYC and not enjoyed it for the price point. This is a small but cozy restaurant. The back room was a little loud if other people are sitting near you. I think I took our waiter's opinion on everything and it didn't disappoint. He made a mocktail for me which was 1. Creative 2. Very kind to do since it wasn't on the menu and 3. Delicious. I thought all the food was very fairly and reasonably priced. Not huge portions but also not super expensive, and everything is really fresh. The fried artichokes were really good and the meet & cheese board had so much on it (this was definitely a good portion side). The ravioli was delicious - even though the sauce was a butter sage sauce the butter wasn't overpowering. The gnocchi looked so pillowy soft. Everyone enjoyed their food. The pistachio semifreddo was, again, delicious. Not too sweet and the perfect dessert. I would definitely come back here for some good Italian food and a mocktail!

A really cute, quaint place, perfect for a late-night date. Really transports you to Italy, with many of the staff (and many diners, at least when we were there) being from Italy themselves. Food was great, the bread and olive oil/lentil mix they give you was so unique and delicious. We got a special appetizer and the bruschetta, both tasty. For entrees, we got the fettuccine ai funghi and orecchiette. They were good, but a little bland. Needed some salt/pepper and Parmesan, but none were offered to us when they brought out the dishes unfortunately. Overall would come back to try more dishes again!

Super cozy Italian eatery. Perfect for what we wanted in NYC for our visit ... Delicious, great quality food and atmosphere that was not going to break the bank. Fried artichoke appetizer was light, airy, and flavorful (a must try). Eggplant Rigatoni was melt-in-your mouth delicious. Mushroom fettuccini and gnocchi ragu were a hit. Tiella Pugliese: Mussels with rice & potato casserole was unique, creamy, and very filling. We would definitely go back again on our next visit.

Food was delicious and service was fast! The place looks like a cute restaurant one may find in Italy...perhaps in Venice or Florence. Loved the ambiance! The restaurant is Michelin recommended!

A really nice Italian place in Midtown. I've been here a few times before, and their pasta does not disappoint. I recently got the Rigatoni Norma, and the pasta was well cooked and well sauced. Also, the restaurant has a romantic vibe, like a charming bistro in Italy. Definitely a nice atmosphere for an intimate friends night out or for a date.

I went to Merkato for dinner with four friends. The ambiancewas nice, and the hostess was friendly. But our waiter? Not so much. Every time he came to our table, it felt like we were getting scolded. His tone was short and annoyed, making us wonder what we did wrong. My friend and I both ordered the special: squid ink gnocchi in puttanesca sauce. It was a big disappointment and in hindsight we should have sent it back. Too bland, too mushy, and too salty, with canned tuna and green olives on top of black gnocchi. It had none of the ingredient of a traditional puttanesca (tomatoes, black olives, capers anchovies etc). When the bill came, we discovered the dish cost $40! That is notably higher than the rest of their pasta dishes, ranging from $20 to $28, some of which included fresh seafood and meat. The price hike for the special felt like a rip-off, and dishonest since they are relying on the fact that the price for specials isn't as transparent as for regular menu items. When I mentioned the exorbitant price to the waiter, he was just as brusque and dismissive as before. I won't be coming back to Merkato.

This is a very cute restaurant in Midtown a few blocks from Penn Station. The service was good, if a little bit too attentive at times. I felt like they hovered a bit, which can get awkward. Better than bad service though! The 3 stars mostly comes from the food. The place isn't too expensive, but we saw a Michelin star sign on the wall and were expecting a really delicious meal. None of the food was bad necessarily, but it wasn't great. Our pasta wasn't very hot, the rigatoni was on the salty side and had a kind of strange Parmesan that seemed like the pre-grated type that you get in a bag at the grocery store. My ravioli was okay, but the ricotta inside was luke warm and not very soft. It was a little chunky. The butter sauce was good though. All in all, this restaurants has some pluses. A cute setting and good service. However, the food really brings it down. The city has some amazing Italian food and I would recommend trying a different restaurant in the area. If you do dine here, I recommend the fava bean purée appetizer. It was very delicious!

I went here for a company lunch. What a gem in the garment district! I love the cozy atmosphere. We ordered appetizers, 3 pastas & dessert. Service was wonderful. Everything was delicious!

My meal at Mercato today was highly anticipated by my peers and really got me excited to try "Authentic" Italian food....I say that as I believe it is portrayed as authentic, but is not. When I was waiting for my food, I witnessed the cooks open and close the microwave door and take meals out of it every 30 seconds. Although it may be made previously the day before it still comes off as a bad look to me when all the meals I witnessed being prepared came from the microwave. I tried the famous lasagna and it was good, but lacked flavor, and was extremely hot when it came to our table. This is a result of the microwave being used. The restaurant has a lot of potential, and with the right amount of work, I feel this can move to an authentic Italian restaurant, but until then I don't think I will attend Mercatos again.

Mercato is a restaurant that left me with mixed feelings. Located in the heart of the city, it boasts an inviting atmosphere with a trendy urban vibe. The menu offers a diverse range of Italian and Mediterranean-inspired dishes that promise culinary adventures. While some dishes impressed with their flavor and creativity, others fell short of expectations. The service was generally attentive, but at times, it seemed a bit rushed, affecting the overall dining experience. In terms of value, Mercato's prices are on the higher side, making it suitable for special occasions but perhaps not for regular dining. While it has its highlights, Mercato could benefit from a more consistent culinary execution to match its stylish ambiance.

Small intimate restaurant. Love the food. We sat at the bar, and ordered burrata pasta and a salad. Everything was delicious. Eddie the bartender is great!

Going to level with everyone here and share that I only had wine and tiramisu, as this was an after dinner but pre-late night pizza adventure for me LOL. The correct order of things when on vaca: full dinner, big amazing Italian dessert, followed up by pizza. Anyways, I was staying across the street and thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the bar here for some vino and tiramisu. My montepulciano by the glass was outstanding and the tiramisu was some of the best I've had. Do NOT skip if you're dining there! The menu is filled with Italian classics - this would be a fantastic spot to bring family prior to a show and away from the Times Square hellscape. The bartender chatted with me about Italy in between bites of tiramisu, and I am very much looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu here. Intimate, lovely space to boot!

In a city where Italian restaurant names are abundant, but true Italian flavors are scarce, this culinary haven stands out as a beacon of tradition and excellence. The ambiance is charming with rustic decor, and soft lighting. It's like being transported to a quaint trattoria nestled in the heart of Tuscany or Rome or Firenze or Bologna. The manager/owner and wait staff are Italian from Italy :). Very kind and accommodating. But it's not just the ambiance that transports you - it's the food. The menu is a celebration of Italy's rich gastronomy. I've been last night with with my besties for a girls night out. We had some beautiful chilled-to-perfection white wine, Vermentino from Sardinia, well balanced on the dry side with a beautiful aftertaste bouquet. We had mixed fried seafood platters made to perfection ( the calamari, fish, and shrimp- "frittura"- had a beautiful light color, could see were fresh and the chef fried them in fresh oil). We had the artichokes salad in freshly squeezed lemon and oil dressing, loved it we reordered, and couldn't resist the perfect marriage of artichokes/arugula/freshly squeezed lemon dressing. For the main course, we had Orada over zucchini pure. Outstanding!!!. The wait st Prices are fair for Manhattan. I'll return with more friends. In a city where authenticity can be elusive, MERCATO is a true culinary oasis. So if you're craving a taste of Italy without the jet lag, look no further than this beloved establishment. We came here on a Saturday night for dinner. We had reservations but it wasn't super packed. We started with the Singapore Sling and Pink Gin Fizz for drinks and they were both good drinks. They didn't taste super strong. For entrees, we split the pork belly and seafood linguine. The linguine was really delicious and we loved how they didn't skimp on the seafood. There was plenty of calamari, mussels, and clams. The pork belly was juicy and tender but it was a bit too salty for my taste. Luckily, the pasta and bread helped balance it out. The ambiance of the restaurant is also really nice. Very rustic. Service was also really fast. I'd come back here again.

a big group of 6 people including me made a reservation for dinner time and arrived promptly after wanting some pasta for the night. we still had to wait around 15-20 minutes to be seated which was kind of unfortunate :,) once inside, the restaurant itself was intimately litand a bit small, but seemed like a nice place for a date. the menu was extensive with many italian dishes ranging from homemade pastas to carne e pesce as well as an impressive drinks menu which was interesting to look at and we were able to place our orders relatively quickly. the service was decent, nothing too special, but got the job done as well. -- -- -- pictured: " trenette al pesto trapanese ($18.00) // this was an interesting dish, with a mix of garlic, tomatoes, basil and the unexpected almond pieces in replace of the usual pine nut. the flavors were subtle and worked nicely with the trenette, so it was alright for me. " orecchiette cime di rapa e acciughe ($18.00) // the noodles were tossed in a dryer sauce made of bread crumbs, anchovies, olive oil, and garlic, which was also a really unique dish I've never had before. the anchovy taste was very strong so if you're a fan of that, you'd like this dish! " fettuccine al funghi ($20.00) // lowkey had no flavor... the noodles were cooked nicely though! -- -- -- overall, i had an average time here and not sure if i would go again, but glad i got to try it!

Came here on a Saturday for dinner, able to make reservations a few hours before. There's a small little outdoor area and the inside there's a back room so there's a lot more space than you first think. We got bread and lentils with olive oil to start. The bread was okay, but that's fine since it left more room for dinner. We started with a Rucola salad -- arugula, pear, caramelized walnuts -- it was absolutely delicious. For main course we went with pastas, all of which were homemade. The Ravioli and Trenette pesto were our favorites. I liked the eggplant in the Rigatoni a lot but had to add a lot of crushed red pepper for more flavor/spice. The tiramisu is a must get, very yummy. We really liked our experience here. Waitstaff was excellent and all the food we had was very good. Would definitely recommend!

Food + value was outstanding! We were tired and this was the closest to us that was open and served pasta... this didn't disappoint at all! Had several dishes and appetizers and thy were all worth having again. The still water they served $8/ bottle... I thought it was $$$ but it tasted so good. Wonder if it's actual well water

Great food, nice service. The pasta Norma was perfect and everything well priced. I hate having to find restaurants near Penn station and finally...a good one!
