Meteora

Visited the Meteora monasteries today with a bus tour from Athens. It took us 5.5 hrs to get there due to bad weather and farmers strike but was worth the travel. Breathtaking sceneries. Monasteries built on top of mountain and 6 are still live and used. Visited 2 of the monasteries. They seemed very posh and less like a monastery but still beautiful. The weather was rainy with mist and fog so viability wasn’t great but still managed to get great photo shots. If you’re visiting Greece then you have to add to your places to visit. The bus tour from Athens with lunch and a guide at monastery cost 40 Euros only, very good value for money. The entrance fee is 5 Euros for each monastery all paid by cash and not included in tour. One of James Bond movies “For Your Eyes Only” (1981) features Roger Moore was filmed at one of the monasteries. A MUST see place to visit.

Must-visit place in Greece! We visited Meteora during our trip to Greece in August 2025, and the views, history, sunset, and overall experience were absolutely unreal. We did two tours with Visit Meteora: one in the evening with sunset viewing and another the following morning. The tours complemented each other perfectly. They took us to the most beautiful viewpoints, shared tons of interesting information without being overwhelming, and included visits to several monasteries and hermit caves. Every part of the experience was amazing. We highly recommend including Meteora in your Greece itinerary, and we also strongly recommend Visit Meteora company as an efficient and enjoyable way to explore this incredible place.

Great place for a day trip. If you are driving, you will enjoy the wide and safe road. You can go to the top by driving your car. Hiking route is also available. Overall, the scenic view is breathtaking and humans capability of building churches and residences are absolutely surreal!

This is a truly surreal and stunning experience. Highly recommend at least once on your life. We took a tour bus which on total is a 11 hr day but totally worth it with no hassle. Costs £5 each to enter each mosque.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meteora is an absolutely breathtaking destination. The rock formations are unique and majestic, and the monasteries perched on top create an unforgettable sight. The views are stunning from every angle, and the atmosphere is peaceful, spiritual, and awe-inspiring. A must-see place that leaves a lasting impression.

A site to see before you leave Greece. Protected by UNESCO. It's clear why. The area is huge and has this very curious and goodlooking rock formation. The monasteries are a top of some of these rock formations with amazing views and amazing orthodox decorations. If you wish to see them all, plan to arrive early as some of thes monasteries close somewhat early 2-3pm and there is much to see around the area. Also note that each monastery has an entrance fee of 5€ which can only be paid in cash. These monasteries get crowded fast and are fairly small for their size. Queues inside some of the monasteries to see rooms are expected.

Amazing monasteries and views from them. Monks are available if you have any questions. I didn't go with a tour group so found it a bit frustrating trying to get into some rooms, but overall I would recommend a visit.

Super amazing places. Lots of history at these monasteries and it's a wonder at how they were able to build them so high up. There's is an admission fee at each monastery. Also there are some light dress codes so please look up. There is parking around each area but be forewarned there are tons of people that visit this and many shuttle buses so you will more than likely have to park a distance and walk. There are also many stairs at a couple of them to get up to so it may be difficult for some. There is a total of 6 monasteries that you can visit. It does get very busy and even arriving earlier it still seemed very full. Would be interesting to go with a tour guide so you can hear more of the details of the place as there is not a lot in English. Such an amazing place and I would highly recommend visiting here if you can.
