Okay, love this place. My family and I traveled to San Diego for a Tae kwondo tournament and searched for a good breakfast eatery nearby. We found Mexipino and the rest was history....
Nestled in a quaint little plaza in Chula Vista, the restaurant stood out by its modern styled logo of the Philippine sun, something I was able to identify with quickly.
I ordered the Magandang Umaga with Bangus. A delicious rice bowl with freshly fried milkfish, topped with friend eggs, a nice fresh touch of sliced tomatos, and...oh, hello....finadene sauce! (More finadene please :) it was sooo good.
My husband went all out and had the Mexipino Sandwich. Okay, if you're a meat lover and love your protein, then this one's got love right back for you! Spam, Tocino, Chorizo, and eggs, crafted in two slices of a sweet concha bread, with the touch of a subtle, fresh creaminess of avocado slices. The hubs devoured this beast of a sandwich, felt it later, but no regrets!
The service was great, they also offered a little ala cart menu for my picky, Mexipino toddler who only eats sausages. Aye nako!
The walls in the restaurant were filled with pictures of the cultural historical blend of Mexican and Filipino which added to the aesthetic of the place....something that my husband and I were able to relate to him being 1/2 Mexican and myself being Filipino.
We rarely hit up SD, however if we ever end up back in the area this will definitely be our go to spot.
