Expect to find dishes like tetelas and aguachiles, as well as goat cheese fondue and tomahawk ribeyes with mole. " - nicolai mccrary

The 9 Hottest New Cocktail Destinations in Austin Right Now

"This fine dining Mexican food restaurant has an incredible cocktail menu to match. Mixologist Mica Rousseau developed the menu, which is heavy on mezcals, sotols, and tequilas, with drinks including a mole Old Fashioned; the Palomazo, a paloma made with a beetroot shrub; and the ¿Margarita? with mezcal and Champagne." - Nadia Chaudhury, Courtney E. This means high-end Mexican dishes with Austin and Texas touches, along with cocktails and other drinks, served in the former Simi Estiatorio space. Pleasantly impressed with everything. The staff, food, and atmosphere was really nice and calming. Ordered the guacamole, salmon, corn, fries and shrimp tacos. Everything tasted really good. Service was on point and relaxing. Valet is available and probably recommended unless you arrive at a good time for street parking downtown

I’m really surprised at the quality of the food when this restaurant was Michelin recommended. The food wasn’t bad but it was nothing special and it didn’t feel creative at all. And for the price we were expecting a more imaginative. We ordered the shrimp ceviche and it wasn’t anything special or unique, it was good but not great. The oysters did not have a creative twist, they were good, but they were the same oysters I could get anywhere else. The steak was pleasant, cooked well, but nothing overtly different or out of the box. The sauce trio was disappointing, the moles were good but felt out of place. The sides were ok. The esquite was good, but it was the priciest esquite I’ll ever pay fo and the brussel sprouts just felt out of place. The dessert fell flat, the flan was a little firmer than I would have liked. The service could have saved this experience but it was incredibly lack luster. It was hard to be excited about the food when our waitress seemed so tired and overwhelmed. I would have expected service like this at a fast food joint, not a fine dining experience. When I asked questions about the food and menu, our waitress couldn’t answer our questions and didn’t seem interested in finding us an answer. All in all, I won’t be returning and I won’t be recommending. For the cost, it’s simply not worth it.

I wanted to like this place but unfortunately it felt far short of expectations, especially for a Michelin recommended restaurant (though perhaps I should’ve been more skeptical given it had only opened <8 months before it was recommended). The restaurant itself is beautiful, of course. Very architecturally interesting and a cool, sexy vibe. Waitress asked us what we wanted to drink as soon as we sat down, and we obviously hadn’t had time to look at anything yet. She then didn’t come back for about 10 minutes before we got our drink order in finally. When told I didn’t like sweet drinks, she said that the four I asked about were all sweet, which didn’t bode well for the small-ish drink menu. Placed our drink orders as well as an order for the tetela. Took about 20 minutes to get our drink in a mostly empty restaurant on a Tuesday night, didn’t get the tetela for another ten minutes after that. We then waited more than another full half hour to get all our remaining items at once, including one more appetizer from the raw bar. It was difficult to eat a raw dish (though it was also partly cooked), the entree, and a side veg all at the same time. On to the food: - Tetela was mostly tasty, though it was overwhelmed with the tad-too-sweet sauce. - the shrimp aguachile was prob the best dish we had but it only had three shrimp and was literally two fried tacos filled with potato and chorizo, which was definitely good but also not what I expected or thought of as an aguachile - Tikin xic salmon—one of the two pieces was extremely undercooked; salmon itself wasn’t seasoned at all - roasted cabbage—cabbage itself was good but the pipian sauce was tasteless The drinks we had were also underwhelming, and we were disappointed enough with the food that we skipped dessert. Also, a strange tidbit: it was my birthday, and we were told they give a free whiskey sour for birthdays. An odd thing to offer for a birthday and even odder drink choice for a Mexican restaurant. Overall, for a $200 bill, we were extremely disappointed and wont be coming back here when Austin has several other great interior Mexican choices.

Google
Soooo good. Came here for my birthday dinner. We absolutely loved the food. We tried about 6 different items and all were phenomenal. Our favorites were the Baja shrimp tacos, fries (trust me), Filet Mignon with black mole, and Mexta Shrimp Aquachile. Loved the aesthetic of this place as well! Very unique and well done layout/deign. Will definitely be back.

Carlos was amazing! He was so prompt and friendly. He was great! The food was delicious and so were all the drinks. We spontaneously came here and we really enjoyed our meals. Oysters were also so fresh! Loved it!!

What can’t we say?!? From the illuminating smile the hostess had (Valeria), to the charming spirit of Carlos, their genuine desire to provide the ultimate experience was phenomenal! There is no way we’ll ever look at an old fashion the same way! The flavors continued to impress with every dish!!!!

Yelp
Went to Mexta for Valentines this year and came in at 5pm to get a walk in spot. They sat us at the corner of the bar which was great. All the staff were very kind and attentive. When asked "still" water or sparkling we said still and received a carbonated water which was not our favorite, not a huge deal though. For appetizers we ordered Guacamole with the pork belly in it and the Cauliflower entree as a suggestion from our server. These were both very delicious with the Guacamole tasted extremely fresh and the pork belly added a nice savory and texture bonus. The cauliflower had a creamy, light sauce that was so good and filled us up a good amount. My catch of the day entree was good but a bit odd. Kind of interesting tasting refried black bean side, optional oily sauce, plantain purée (really good) and fish with head and skin. Making tacos out of it was yummy but would have preferred more options / different options to accompany. Additionally for 55 bucks I felt the fish should have tasted a bit better. Overall, prices were expensive and while presentation and quality were great I did not think price was fully aligned. 20 dollars for Guacamole and then $5 for tortilla chips and $8 for pork belly. I truly felt my $200 dollars would have gone much further at an Uchi or Uchiko for a nice dinner. Atmosphere inside is great, ambient and reminds me of Mexico. For me, Mexta would be an awesome place to grab drinks and apps but dinner I am not sure I will craving anytime soon. (Nor will my wallet)

Yelp
This is a 3.5 stars rating A mixed bag with memorable highlights! Located in the iconic Littlefield Building, Mexta, offers a dining experience that's a blend of highs and lows. We opted for a ride-share to this downtown spot, as parking can be tricky on weekends--a wise choice for anyone planning to visit. Starting with the positives, the interior is a classy, modern setting that exudes a sophisticated yet welcoming vibe. The service was prompt and attentive, ensuring we were well taken care of throughout the meal. As for the food, there were clear standouts: the Tikin Xic Salmon, lobster bisque, and the Mexta fries were all delicious. The fries, in particular, were a surprise hit--crispy, flavorful, and worth coming back for. On the other hand, a couple of dishes didn't quite hit the mark. The ceviche was punchy but not my favorite, and there was a green seafood dish (whose name escapes me) that felt underwhelming. The beverage experience was also mixed. While the sparkling wine was enjoyable, the pour in the flute was just over half full, which felt stingy. It would have been better to either serve a full glass or adjust the pricing to reflect a more generous pour. That said, purchasing a bottle of sparkling wine is a better option here, as it's reasonably priced and avoids the disappointment of the glass pour. In summary, Mexta has its moments of brilliance, especially with certain dishes and its chic ambiance. While some aspects left room for improvement, I'd return for the Mexta fries and perhaps a bottle of sparkling wine to share. It's a spot worth exploring, but with tempered expectations.

Yelp
The Good: The shrimp ceviche, guacamole and salsa selections were tasty. I also enjoyed my twist on the traditional Paloma and the nice decor and our waiter was attentive. The Not So Good: My porcelet. I was excited to try some new flavors when I ordered this dish but was sad at its lack luster flavor. Adding some salsa helped but if we hasn't ordered the salsas with our appetizer, I would have been completely disappointed. Also, they came around to collect out menus before we ordered our main course because they had ran out. The Bad: The prices. I never mind shelling out for a meal that wow's me but the food left me wanting.

Yelp
Came in for their unadvertised happy hour and thought it was just OK. The drinks were good but the food was tiny and way overpriced for a HH. Nothing stood out as being that good, so I don't think I'll go back for a full meal. I will say the bartender was super nice and the bar setup was nice, so I might go back for another drink during HH.

Yelp
Met some friends for a holiday dinner here last week. We shared some apps and I had the tortilla lobster bisque which was yummy. They were able to seat us at our table for 6 (high top) quickly and they were attentive, but we did have to ask the server for water refills a few times. The bartender on duty that night was very nice and took multiple photos of us gals. I was lucky enough to get street parking not too far and found out later they validate in the Littlefield garage which none of us knew about before. They were also able to split shared dishes amongst us making bill paying easy, which is always a plus.

Yelp
This was such a gem to try. Everything was surprisingly delicious. The decoration was very Tulum jungle chic. The service was excellent. Food: Guacamole with Chapulines and sauces - delicious with a nice crunchy texture from the grasshoppers Rib eye steak - delicious and perfectly cooked Bone marrow with langoustines - very good Red snapper - delicious but the fish was a little overcooked Strawberries with cream - good Cheese tart - delicious and a must try; tasted like a mix between French toast and a flan

Yelp
Mexta is in the heart of downtown with a great central location. Parking is validated (although we didn't know that) the pluses: the vibes are immaculate. It's giving tulum in the heart of Austin downtown. The location feels so open and airy because of the high ceilings and everything from the cups and plates and silverware is giving extravagant. The servers are nice and decently knowledgeable. The desserts are very different and I hadn't tried anything like the cheesecake before. The minuses: the food is decent but very expensive. We split a couple apps that were small that were good but not mindblowingly good. As a vegetarian there were some options and while I did really like my cauliflower dish,it was a lot to pay for cauliflower. Overall for two people who got a drink app entree and dessert it was around 250 with tip (125 pp) and the meal was relatively forgettable.

Yelp
Came in for Valentines Day and as soon as we walked in we we greeted by the hosts and the General Manager Dawn that walked us to our corner table that seemed like the best seat in house with amazing ambiance! We were greeted warmly by our sever Maggie that had excellent recommendations with the oyster and ceviche. The bar manager Gabbie came over and recommended excellent Valentines Day cocktails. As our apps came out another server Abril came and with a welcome shot that was amazing! All of the portions were very filling and staff was very attentive and professional. 5/5 would recommend.

Yelp
This took over the same space as the Mediterranean restaurant Simi that closed. The team here did a lot of cool upgrades to the space! They do have valet which is nice for this part of 6th, definitely recommend getting dropped off further down 6th if you're coming on a weekend night. This is another upscale type Mexican restaurant, which there are a lot of now in Austin. Food for me was pretty average and not too unique - drinks were delicious and would come again for those. - brussel sprouts - interesting aioli on top - cauliflower- interesting flavors - ceviche - interesting flavors - guacamole- loved this guac
google avatar

Tae K.

Yelp
Overall Mexta was a good experience. The vibes were great. Very lively. Awesome date night spot or place to hang with friends. The staff is super friendly. The drinks were solid. I got a classic Margarita and it hit the spot. Parking is street parking, but I would go ahead and do valet. To the food. My review would have been 4 stars but 2 dishes I ordered made me drop a star. The good stuff I would highly recommend getting the guac with tostadas + salsas. Guac was strong with flavor and the salsa each had their own profiles from mild to spicy. The ceviche was excellent. Bright, acidic and lots of flavor. The tostadas they served it with were delicious. Imagine a corn chip but 10x times flavor. Perfectly seasoned. The oaxcan tetela was excellent. Packed with flavor the beans and cheese. The mole sauce was excellent. The dish that I don't recommend is the burrata, tomato with Hamachi salad. I think it's ballsy for a restaurant to put a dish with fish and cheese. This was really bland the cheese and hamachi did not work. There was a lack of seasoning. I also got the Mexta Lobster roll as my main. The Alton flavors sounded interesting which enticed me.The lobster roll was so over dressed in mayo sauces. I didn't get a lot of the Latin flavors mentioned. The tobiko on random did not really work. Just made the lobster roll more fishy. Overall had a good experience.

Yelp
New place right in the heart of downtown and they have valet parking too. Modern decor in the restaurant as it looks like Tulum with brick and wood trees all over with nice low lighting. Service was perfect, not too quick or slow and got drinks with us not being rush to flip the table. Shrimp tacos were delicious if you want as an appetizer, sauce was the best part. Stuffed pepper had a nice taste as it was soaked in their green sauce. We ordered steak which was cooked all the way and steamed to unveil, salmon was so tender with plenty of toppings and sauce. Cauliflower was my favorite, so simple but the aioli sauce hit the spot. We weren't thinking cheesecake but had to try and it was more of a flan and as you get inside with the melted cheese it was even better. Fine high end dining, not casual but worth it.
google avatar

Irma D.

Yelp
Mexta is a visually stunning place, but unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ends. The dishes we enjoyed the most were the hamachi tiradito, ceviche, and Brussels sprouts. Everything else, while flavorful, was disappointing due to overcooking. We ordered two medium-rare ribeye steaks, and both arrived well-done. The salmon was overly dry. To make matters worse, it came with a slice of avocado that was clearly overripe and brown--definitely not something you'd expect to see at a place like Mexta. They did not charge us for the salmon since we couldn't eat it. The red snapper was also dry, although the sauce it was served with was quite tasty. Overall, the flavors are there, but the food is consistently overcooked, which really detracts from the experience.

Yelp
A place where the true enchantment of Mexican gastronomy unfolds. From their Ambiance to their service and food, everything here is absolutely exquisite. Their happy hour is an upscale food lover's dream. Their white fish ceviche, guacamole, pork belly taco and qusedilla were all incredible, all of whixh were on Happy hour
google avatar

Peter J.

Yelp
I ate here Thursday night. I thought something was off with the pork belly dish and by the time I got home I was wildly sick, Throwing up, etc. I tried calling in yesterday to get ahold of manager to make them aware and see if it happened to anyone else but no one would return my call.
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
Location of this restaurant is great. Ambiance is fantastic. Service is kind and friendly. The food was delicious! Flavored and prepared beautifully. Absolutely enjoyed the taco that came with a mole...because the mole was incredible. Our small group ordered a selection of starters to share, and we were impressed.
google avatar

Gemma S.

Yelp
Very overrated. The manager Valerie apologized that my steak was well done even tho I asked for it medium rare. Unprofessional and I can't believe the chefs mess up on a steak. Owners don't care

Kristin H.

Yelp
Service started a bit slow but got back on track quickly thereafter. Everything from the uniquely crafted drinks to the flavorful food was exceptional. The layout and ambiance were also very thoughtful and aesthetically pleasing. I recommend the Lobster roll and my friend enjoyed the Salmon. I got the frozen margarita and espresso martini was one of the best I've had! Will be back for dessert, which also looked incredible
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
Really amazing high-end Mexican food! We started with the guacamole and added the chicharrones to it. SO good and crispy and warm on top of the cold guac. We also had the shrimp aguachile appetizer, which came with 2 tacos in a green aguachile, topped with a mound of large shrimp. So zesty and flavorful. This was the only thing we wished was more spicy. For dinner I had the chipotle lobster roll which was SO flavorful. My only qualm was that it came with a side of French fries which felt a little random and cheap given the price of the entree and that it's such a high end place. Definitely could use a more interesting side. The real winner was the cheesecake. They warned us that it takes 20 minutes to make bc it's made from scratch on the spot. It was well worth it. It was a combination of 3 types of sweetened cheeses, and could only be described as a charcuterie board melted into a dessert, in the best way possible. I had never tasted anything like it!
google avatar

Minni N.

Yelp
Our steak was cold, the fish was dry and the margaritas weren't good either. I'm sad, I really wanted to like this place!
google avatar

Jojuane P.

Yelp
Probably more 3.5 than 4, but better than 3. Been a couple times. Hosted a large group of +10. Second time went alone to explore more of the menu. For all the things I've tried nothing wow's me that I have to face this again; yet, nothing repulses me. Food is solid. Service was attentive. Vibes are high. I think this will be a place for me to have drinks at the bar and an app or dessert.
google avatar

Lucy V.

Yelp
When we got there on time for our table it was not ready and we had to wait a bit when the place wasnt packed. I will say the staff is extremely nice and attentive. They had great cocktails to choose from. The place in general is very nice. Now when it came to the food it was very disappointing and not tasty. We started with the guac which yes was good but i mean its the easiest thing to make. Now i got shrimp tacos and the shrimp were small and only had 2 per taco, it was mainly cabbage in there. My friend got some chicken dish which was beyond bland and looked like the food from the retirement homes. Beyond pricey for the state of the food.
google avatar

Airon A.

Yelp
Had dinner with friends at Mexta. It was easy to get a reservation and the restaurant had a nice relaxing vibe. For a mezcal lover, I was enjoying the smoky cocktails including the margarita and cantarito. The Tom Ford cocktail was very unique with edible glitter and added automatics. Started the meal with the real one guacamoles with tostadas raspadas and house salsas. Most of the salsas were on the spicy side, but had a range of interesting flavor combinations. Had the filet mignon that was cooked medium rare to perfection. Very tender and tasty cut of beef. Had the cabbage with pipian and mexta French fries which were both enjoyable sides. The matcha cauliflower was a bit on the spicy side but I liked that the veggies were prepared al dente with a nice crunch. I was hoping to try the dessert shaped like a beehive but that has now been reconstructed to the chocomaize with a nice cookie crumble and icecream and brownie. The tarta de queso horneada was not my favorite and had Parmesan cheese on the top. We did not eat that dessert because did not like the cheesy flavor or texture. Overall pleased with the cocktails and food and the server was able to get us in and out in time for our evening event.

Yelp
Vibe - "wood" finishes, Tulum kinda music, they did a good job changing the ambiance from the previous place (Greek, Simi) Bar - I would prefer being seated here at date night, vs table top, great people watching too. Cocktails - 10/10, love it!!! Food - we did not sample enough to make a judgement but everything we tried was good! Service - pleasant, kind and welcoming!! For a place that's new, I would give them 5 stars! Would definitely come back with a bigger group too.

Yelp
Had a very nice dinner with friends- it was their second night open. Staff was very friendly.. there were a few minor glitches both with the seating and the bill but each were quickly resolved once pointed out.. food was excellent with great flavor.. portions were appropriate as was the price for each dish (for downtown Austin). The chicken and the cabbage salad were the show stoppers.. also enjoyed the salmon and the quac starter.. the lobster roll (not pictured) was small yet had a unique Mexican twist (pricey for the size here). Classic margarita was delicious with a single large ice cube. Experience was great- plan to come back

Yelp
I was in town on business and after a long day our group of 5 grabbed drinks and dinner. The staff is very friendly and takes great pride in the vibe and menu created here from Oaxaca. I had the Mole Old Fashioned and I must say it was an amazing blend of Mexican spices that really enhanced the bourbon notes to be a special cocktail. We shared the Gucamole, fish Cevichej, tartar and cabbage, and all were very well Prepared and featured some interesting micro greens, including dill. The sauces were all amazing. I ordered the Denver steak with mole and it was a tad fatty and tough. Great flavors from the sauce they poured, but the cut of meat was not quite up to par. Lost a star for that. Others enjoyed the tacos and lobster role and salmon and all were very happy. I will give another try sometime.

Yelp
We came here for our anniversary after hearing about it from my chef. The restaurant is very beautiful. Tables are a little too close together if you're trying to enjoy an intimate private dinner. The food and drinks were all great, but service was slow. Our server explained that they are short staffed and trying their best. Working in restaurants myself, I understand this. But on top of slow service, the food runners also seemed confused. I watched them go to the wrong table everytime they brought food or drinks out. Not sure how long the restaurant has been open. I think with a little more staff training, this could be a five star restaurant.
google avatar

Trvs J.

Yelp
Outstanding food and standout sauces set a standard that I only wish was met by the service and atmosphere. The chefs deserve to have an ambiance and trained staff that compliments the quality of the food.

Dalia G.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by this gorgeous restaurant- it's not worth the hype. We dined here last weekend and everything from the cocktails to main dish were horrible. 1. cocktails- not worth the price. The margaritas tasted like syrup. 2. Shrimp ceviche- no flavor whatsoever. We had to ask for and add salt, even then it was mediocre at best. 3. Fish dish- fish was overcooked and dry 4. New York steak- as soon as it got to the table we noticed it had a strange light brown color. Took a bite and it was COLD. We called our server who said he'd take it back and make us another. At this point we were so tapped out that we told him just to throw that same steak on the heat and bring it back to us. When we got it back, it was still cold. We sent it back, closed out, and as we were leaving a manager came over to ask us about our experience and to get feedback on how they could've made it better. She ended up telling us that they got a "bad batch of steaks" her words, not mine... if you knew it was a "bad batch" WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU SERVE IT? I am extremely disappointed. Dine at your own risk.

Yelp
I originally saw this restaurant being announced on Austin Eater a few weeks ago but it hadn't opened yet, then when I went to look at OpenTable today I saw they had reservation spots available. I made a reservation right away for the sake evening and it was very easy to make one and did not require adding a credit card on file (no deposit). The pictures are just gorgeous on their site and the food looked amazing! Updates after dinner: i was informed the restaurant is actually having a soft opening right now and the formal opening 3/22/24. The servers and hostesses were all very nice, our server Abby in particular was wonderful. And the food was so beautifully served! They have a fixed menu during the soft opening but they will have more options later; the fixed menu featured $55 for a choice of an appetizer, a main dish, and a dessert with an additional appetizer of guacamole and chips. It was all very lovey, I especially liked what they did with the spices and seasonings. The guac had a lovely tang and the herbs on my main course were really perfect. It was all very decadent and very flavorful. And for the record, I left TOTALLY stuffed - I was worried the portion sizes might be tiny and it would be all presentation but that was NOT the case. There was definitely lovely presentation with the servers even explaining details of each course but the servings were very reasonable and certainly added up so I was very full by the end. Be aware that there IS fully validated parking available at the Littlefield garage, specifically at 508 Brazos St. I did not know this and parked a ways away but did confirm with the manager they do validate! Would absolutely rec coming by to try this place, it would be great for a date night :)

Yelp
Service was decent, passable; however I am surprised at the Michelin recommendation seeing as our food was less than satisfactory. Drenched in sauce and lacking any excitement, the main chicken dish and black mole steak were simply not good. It was clear many food items were ordered wholesale through Sysco, rather than made in-house. Will not be returning. Location was also less than ideal (little to no parking and no valet on weekday)
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the finest meals I have had in my life. The food is fantastic, the service is top tier, and the place looks great. Yes, it is super expensive $$$$$, you have to know walking in what to expect. I highly recommend this restaurant for a once a year splurge - for us it was New Year's Eve. (Someone needs to tell those fake (hipster) cowboys you take your brand-new, overpriced cowboy hat when you sit down for dinner.)

Yelp
If you haven't been here...this is where you must come! Such a great place, food and Antonio is the person that you would like to take care of you! I told him what I like and left everything on to him...and from the drink #1 throughout the dinner...and more drinks...all I want is to come back...and I will! Great place!

Hamilton K.

Yelp
Does not live up to the hype. Our waiter was nice but service did not match the level expected at a restaurant of this price / caliber. Food was average. We were a large group and sampled most of the menu--the only standouts were the snapper ceviche and hamachi tiradito. Medium-rare steak was served medium-well and sent back. The mole was overpowering instead of complementing the steak. No one in the group was impressed with their meal.

Yelp
I was completely blown away from my experience at Mexta! It takes authentic Mexican flavors to the next upscale level. Right away, the interior of this place was well thought out and classy, and I felt excited taking my guests to a new restaurant in Austin. The service here was wonderful - our server was attentive and was truly trying to provide us with a great experience. DRINKS: - They had a wide selection of tequila and mezcal cocktails and as someone who's not a big fan of tequila, I would highly recommend their drinks. They all had a fun twist to them, making their flavors unique to Austin. APPETIZERS: - House Guacamole + Chicharrones + Salsa: The house guacamole comes with the option for extra add-ons and it was well worth it! The presentation of the dish was beautiful, the guacamole had great flavor, the pork belly added a nice crunchy texture, and I fell in love with their salsa choices. Their crunchy oil was also to DIE for and we even kept the salsas around for our main dish. - Hamachi Crudo: The fish they served us tasted so fresh, which was very much appreciated. I loved the added veggies as it complimented the fish, and the sauce itself has a nice kick to it. We loved sharing this appetizer. MAIN: - Pork Belly entree: This was by far my favorite thing on the menu! The pork belly came with a peanut sauce that complimented the flavors and juiciness of the pork. The pork also had a nice crisp to the outer parts of the meat, and it was a filling dish with a great portion size. - Wagyu Steak: I loved the presentation on the dish and the amount of Wagyu they gave us. The waiter came and drizzled their delicious house mole sauce on top, which we felt took this dish to the next level. Though I do wish we would've known they would have poured the sauce for us, given that we would have probably liked it on the side or poured less than what they did. It came with a side of veggies, similar to the Pork Belly plate. - Aguachile Tacos: This was a refreshing dish that complimented our drinks! The sauce at the bottom had lots of flavor - giving it such a citrus-y taste to the tacos. It came with two (2) tacos that were portioned fairly well. Overall, we really enjoyed our time at Mexta. It recently opened up, so I'm excited to see the restaurant get the recognition it deserves. The ambience makes it a great place to bring people from work, a date night, or even a night out with friends. I'm a huge fan of the location too - in the heart of downtown and near so many bars and venues next door. It's a great first pit stop of the night before having a night out! I can't wait to come again and try the other dishes on their menu.

Yelp
It was my first time trying Mexta. My best friend and I did a girls dinner. We shared everything. We ordered the guacamole, oysters, and hamachi crudo to start and they were all amazing. We had the lobster bisque and then split the New York Steak with brussel sprouts and added bone marrow on the side. The hamachi crudo, oysters and steak were our favorites! Service was excellent. Very fine dining feeling but also relaxing. Lower lighting and not too loud. The only downfall is they don't have valet so you do have to find street or garage parking and walk which isn't convenient in that area. But overall 10/10 experience in the restaurant!!

Yelp
Made dinner reservations here last Friday night with two of my girlfriends and had a fantastic time! The food was authentic Mexican gastronomy and the shrimp tacos were out of this world! Ask for Tommy, he was very knowledgeable, attentive, and the service was top-notch! The atmosphere was such a vibe and really gave you a modern Mexican feel. I highly recommend! Yelp
From food to service to ambiance 15/10. I've been here over 5 times and it's consistent and delicious. I've even rented out the private dining room for a birthday and we had a blast. I love this place so much. I've tried so many items on the food/bev menu- you can't go wrong

Yelp
My wife and I went for dinner and really enjoyed our experience. The decor is very well done, and it's clear they spent a lot of time on the detail. The steak was delicious and different from what you'll get at the steakhouses around here. Just note that the way they'll prepare it is quite rare, so if that's not your preference, make sure to specify. Their mole was fantastic, coming from someone who usually doesn't like mole. Highly recommend the cauliflower. I could put the sauce it comes in on anything! The elotes was also solid.

Yelp
Great spacious restaurant in the heart of downtown. Ambiance and service were great. Lots of menu options but entrees were kinda small for the price. Food is unique upscale Tex mex. Appetizers and drinks were amazing!

Yelp
The restaurant is really cool inside! Food was great. Definitely a highlight was their Santana Sour. They have a printing machine that can print any design on the foam!

Yelp
Second time in the past couple weeks we've been there and amazingly gets better every time. Service is outstanding and they really make you feel like family. The place can get loud but I never felt it was that different to most restaurants in town. The highlight is for sure the food, I would argue the chicken pipian is right there with Canje's jerk chicken as the top chicken dishes in town. Other highlights are for sure the tetela and the chile relleno and will be our to go appetizers from now on! All the dishes are perfectly put together and the sauces all are spot on. For dessert, we've tried the cheese, chocolate masa cake and arroz con leche. I'm torn between the chocolate and the cheesecake as my favorite. Finally the drinks, Gaby is amazing, knows a ton about tequilas and mezcales and the cocktails we've tried have all been memorable. Special mention for "La patrona" worth stopping at the bar for, even if not staying for dinner. All in all the place has been a pleasant surprise and it's a much welcomed addition to the local food scene even with the already strong upscale Mexican options we are lucky to have.

Yelp
Amazing service by Kevin! He offered great recommendations as we were super indecisive because all of it sounded so good! Drinks were great, we really liked the Patrona. Recommend trying the red snapper ceviche, Mole Filet Mignon & made to order cheesecake for dessert. Espresso martinis were great too!

Yelp
Amazing restaurant. Food and ambience was wonderful. We had the stuffed pepper, salmon and Mexta esquites. Best of all was our server Carlos. We will definitely be back next time we visit Austin

Yelp
Amazing food, but the absolute worst service. 45 minutes before getting drinks, entrees came out before our appetizers, waiter forgot our orders. Turned into a 3 hour meal. It wasn't just our waiter either - other tables were having similar problems.

Yelp
Delicious drinks and food. Crudo and tacos were perfect. Some very eclectic drinks. Excellent service.

Yelp
The place is indeed beautiful, but our experience was marred by a 15-minute wait for our table, despite having reservations. The lack of explanation for the empty tables was disheartening. I wish I loved the food or cocktails, but it was just ok. There was a very strong bleach smell, and my friend is very allergic to it. Why not clean and disinfect before or after hours? I definitely will not be back to Mexta.

Yelp
The location was perfect, and the interior was nicely done. It has a loud, high-energy vibe. The cocktails were creative and tasted great! Relative to some of the other high-end Mexican restaurants in Austin, Mexta's food and service were just okay. The food wasn't necessarily bad, just not to the level I was expecting. On the service end, the food runners kept getting confused on who ordered what. At nicer restaurants, the server has this recorded and passes this information on to the person delivering the food. When people ordered similar dishes with minor modifications, it made sorting out dishes annoying. Next time I'm looking for a high-end Mexican restaurant, I'd likely pick Suerte, Comedor, or half a dozen other good options nearby.
