11 LA Restaurants For When You Just Want Appetizers - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Located on the loungey second floor of Palihouse West Hollywood, Mezzanine might have “sushi” in its name, but the small izakaya plates are what you should concentrate on. The seafood pancake is plump and juicy, the grilled yellowtail collar flakes beautifully under a pair of chopsticks, and the wood-fired tomatoes are tiny smoke explosions in your mouth. If you’re looking for a fun pre-going-out spot in Beverly Grove, Mezzanine is one of the best options in the neighborhood." - brant cox

Where To Eat When One Of Your Friends Is Kind Of Famous - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Your friend with a three-picture deal at Netflix just suggested Sushi Park for dinner, but your annual birthday check from your aunt hasn’t come through yet, and you don’t feel like dropping $200 on forgettable sushi. Convince them to go to Mezzanine instead. Located on the loungey second floor of Palihouse West Hollywood, this place is really more of a small plates izakaya than a sushi bar, but the food is good (go for the seafood pancake and wood-fired tomatoes), there’s a large range of sake, and while it’s not cheap, you won’t have to transfer money from your savings account in order to cover the bill." - brant cox

Mezzanine Sushi - Review - Beverly Grove - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Beverly Grove’s West 3rd Street has no shortage of pre-going-out spots—sexy, booze-forward restaurants where you can snack on good food, get a little tipsy, and still make it to the bar/nightclub/party you committed to afterward. The newly opened Mezzanine Sushi in the Palihouse West Hollywood is already one of the best options in the neighborhood for exactly those nights. Located on the hotel’s loungey second floor, Mezzanine has “sushi” in its name, but the small izakaya plates are what you should concentrate on. The seafood pancake is plump and juicy, the grilled yellowtail collar flakes beautifully under a pair of chopsticks, and the wood-fired tomatoes are tiny smoke explosions in your mouth. Of course, drinking is a big part of the experience here, too, with a large range of interesting sake to choose from and a bar downstairs that has every classic cocktail in the book." - Brant Cox

Nice spot. Very attentive staff and really tasty dishes. We tried most everything - very accommodating of food allergies. I think the wings were my favorite. Good recommends on Sake, also. Especially nice when the DJ starts at 7:30. Nice buzz in the air.

It’s easy to make a reservation and this restaurant reminds me the sushi restaurant that I visited in Japan. Super authentic & reasonable price. Chicken wings and spicy tuna avocado press sushi are my favorite!!! Definitely will visit there again 😊

Yelp
Recently visited this sushi restaurant and it was amazing!! One of the best experiences, from the food being delicious to the presentation & the vibe of the restaurant, an overall 10/10 experience. Highly recommend the spicy tuna pressed sushi & the chicken wings!! They were so delicious, & we loved that the sushi here all tasted really fresh. I'm not really a dessert person but I tried the matcha ice cream parfait and it was so worth it, absolutely recommend. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I'm sorry, but this place isn't it. After reading about Mezzanine in Eater, we really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, this was one of worst "Japanese" restaurants we've eaten - all style but no substance. Everything from the glassware to the server's monogrammed, white labcoats tries so hard to be authentically Japanese but it missed on all the basics. The sushi rice was cold, mushy, and had no rice vinegar. Probably something that would've been flagged if they bothered to hire a single Asian staff member. The server informed us the pressed sushi was 'how they eat it in Osaka' but he couldn't tell the difference between toro and salmon. The vongole donabe only had about 5 strands of udon and was very bland. One server even referred to the sake that she served us as soju! Ambiance is nice but that's about it. Never again.

Yelp
Great food in surprisingly big portions and really nice wait staff. Plus, the dj was playing fun music!
