Michael Nadra Primrose Hill

"You'll be spoilt for choice at this neighbourhood restaurant with its extensive, brasserie-style menu. Influences over the cooking come from around the world, so you'll find dishes inspired by everywhere from the Mediterranean (such as a Greek and niçoise salad cross) to Japan (miso black cod). A set lunch menu offers bang for your buck and a roast dinner is available on Sundays – not to mention a wide array of cocktails. The unusual vaulted room adds intimacy, while service is warm and friendly." - Michelin Inspector

We had a lunch party of 26 people at Michael Nadra restaurant recently and it was absolutely amazing experience . From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a stylish yet relaxed vibe. The service was nothing short of excellent – friendly, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. Every team member made us feel well looked after without ever being overbearing. The food was outstanding – beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly made with great care and quality ingredients. Each course was a delight, and it’s clear the kitchen takes real pride in what they serve. Was a perfect lunch from start to finish. Highly recommended, and we can’t wait to return!

Not sure how to rate it. It’s a very French place. If you love French-style dining you’ll probably enjoy it. If you hate wasting hours in small talks at an empty table with a glass of wine, you'll definitely hate it. We came here for a quick dessert, it took ~30 minutes to receive it, and all other people in the braccerie were still sitting at tables with the same glasses of wine.

Love this restaurant. The food is just amazing, everything is presented beautifully and tastes just great. The staff are lovely and the restaurant itself is tastefully decorated. Have been coming here for 8 years and have met Michael Nadra a few times. He is so pleasant and hard working. Just a fab neighbourhood locals' place that deserves to be ranked among London's best.

Wonderful evening for a milestone birthday party for over 40 guests. Well executed - nothing was too big or too small for the staff to handle - the food was exceptional and amazing value. Thanks to everyone who made it happen.

Excellent service for Easter Sunday. We were asked if we'd like to sit outside as it was a lovely sunny day and started with a tequila sour (thoroughly recommend). We had some bread to start and then all went for the Roast Lamb with all the trimmings, gravy & mint sauce. The flavour of the lamb was great, the gravy was perfectly rich but not too heavy, and actual crispy, roast potatoes! A delicious Yorkshire pudding and light mint sauce topped off an excellent Sunday lunch. The portion was perfect too, filling but not overwhelmed. We had the grenache with our lamb by the carafe (I do so love when restaurants do carafes). They have an excellent martini list that I'd like to peruse next time. I would definitely come back here again and would thoroughly recommend sitting outside on a sunny day.

The food is lovely here. The only reason I have not given 5 stars is because I did tell the restaurant when booking that it was my daughter in laws birthday which fell on Easter Sunday. It's says tell them so they can make an extra fuss of you for special occasions, I don't feel this was done and they messed up the dessert at the end which meant my grandson and I were eating when everyone had finished. No fuss made of the children in our party for Easter either. A little egg for the children would have been a nice touch considering this restaurant is not cheap to eat at. I also think £12 for a small plate of plain pasta for a child with a bit of cheese on it is really expensive. Also £3.75 for the tiny little bit of ice cream is also ridiculous. At least give people a decent portion. I felt that the other tables in the restaurant were paid far more attention to than ours maybe a bit of snobbery going on here. My money is just as good as anyone else's and you should not judge a book by its cover.

We found solace from a hot sunny day within the cool environment of Michael Nadra PH. The service was exemplary and the food was plentiful and very tasty. Lovely variety to suit all palates in their menu. We will definitely visit again soon.

Went on a Friday and tried their fish set menu. The sashimi starter was incredible and set my expectations high, but the other dishes didn’t hit quite as well. Still gave it a five star as they apparently change that menu every week, so it may just be that it wasn’t quite my preference and I respect the difficulty in providing that. The service was top notch and it’s a beautiful spot.

Yelp
The best meal in London (according to a well traveled Los Angeles American)! Balanced, light, delicious, thoughtful, diverse, well-executed, elevated British food! Reminds me of some of my favorite New York, Vancouver, Vegas, L.A. trendy restaurants. I've now visited this restaurant multiple times, and have had almost everything on the menu. Nothing disappoints! The Sunday roast is one of the best in town (according to me - an American, and my British boyfriend). I recently had the Salmon Ceviche (which I usually avoid when I'm not exactly in a "seafood town/city"), and it was light, delicate, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Can't wait to eat that again. They are constantly changing the menu, based on the seasons and trends (they offers Veganuary!), so you'll find new bites in addition to the ones you already love, when returning here. 4 seating/dining areas; entry bar & lounge, outdoor patio, small indoor/daytime seating adjacent to glass wall patio, back "fireplace" seating room, and the underground brick "tunnel" (my favorite), which used to act as a passage way for the Camden stables. I, personally, recommend this restaurant to all my friends (especially those who are foodies, looking for a thoughtful, well-executed, non-pub meal), all of whom have either been back or have been eager to return. Don't be deterred if you pop in and the restaurant is empty/slow! They have a lot of private events/bookings, celebrity dinner buy-outs and odd busy-seasons. Your meal will, hopefully, still be delicious and memorable. Dog friendly too! Like... my dog sits with me in the dining area (not just one of those "dogs only in the bar portion" places).

Yelp
This felt like a 'secret find'. We had lunch here. We were actually in the overcrowded Camden Market and couldn't get a seat in side anywhere. I noticed this place is not far away and we decided to to try it out. What a pleasant surprise. The lunch menu had three starters, three main courses and two choices of desert in them. The food was excellent, really really. And at 12,50 for a main course not expensive at all. We also tried some apple cider that the owner recommended that was fantastic. The Internet works well, and the toilets are clean. Note: this restaurant is in a basement but with a lot of light. Just that there is no 'view' if that is important to you.

Yelp
If you're looking for something a bit fancier than usual but not a pub this is the place for you, in the quiet neighbourhood of primrosehill. It's the only restaurant that really allows dog too! I came here for my mother in laws birthday and as a seafood lover, she absolutely loved it. The courses are a bargain too with 3 courses for just £39 (not including service charge and drinks) its a great value for the quality. The homemade breads which came at the beginning was just divine with mouth watering butter I think it was from Holland. I ordered a tuna and soft shell crab starter served in citrus yuzu dressing which was tangy and great for a starter. Then for mains I had venison with polenta which was cooked beautifully and meat was really tender. We shared the desserts as the mains were quite heavy but definitely recommend the gooseberry sorbet and the chocolate fondant with salted caramel ice cream. The staff there were friendly and attentive not like what some other reviews say, despite it was a Friday night and all the tables were full. My dog loved it there too and they gave him a cute bowl of water and it's easy access to take them for a walk outside. Definitely a place I'd go back!

Yelp
This restaurant thinks it's so fancy it doesn't need to bother with customer service. I've lived in the area for 6 months and had no idea of its existence; my dad found it online looking for somewhere to eat near me. My initial impressions were favourable - it seemed sophisticated and understated. Looking at the menu, I was a bit lukewarm, but that's probably more to do with my fussiness than the items on offer. Still, as someone mentions below, on the prix fixe menu about half the dishes seem to come with an additional cost - seriously, what's the point? My starter wasn't bad, though they had run out of one of the ingredients so had to replace it. My main, however, was severely underseasoned. I actually tend to underdo salt, but even I noticed it lacking - and of course, being suuuuuch a gourmet place, they don't provide things like salt on the table because of course the chef got it right. I don't think I would have particularly minded if it hadn't taken such a ridiculously long time to arrive. My dad booked the table for 8.30, and was pressured on the phone to order as soon as we sat down as the last orders were at 9 (on a Sunday). We therefore were prepared to do so, being well-behaved patrons - but it was 15 minutes before we even got menus. We ordered as soon as the waiter would allow us, being rather hungry as well as aware of the kitchen's orders, and then waited about 45 minutes for the starters to come out. Following that, it was almost another hour for the mains. I'm pretty sure we would have stayed for dessert or coffee had it not been close to 11 by the time we put our knives and forks together - but as it was we were tired and pretty much done with the place. Adding insult to injury, there were only about 5 other tables with people at them - the restaurant was far from at capacity and even if they only had limited staff on a Sunday evening, it was completely baffling that they were unable to cope at this level.

Yelp
We went to Michael Nadra's on Primrose Hill last night. It was absolutely fabulous. I had the asparagus as a first course...the dish did not disappoint nor the presentation. The Sea Bass followed with a light tomato sauce with just a touch of cream and olive oil; it was perfectly prepared. It was a group of 8 and everyone loved their choices. We will be back on our next trip to London and it will be on our recommendation list for friends. We were also warmly greeted by Michael which is always a plus! Highly recommend!

Yelp
"Meh" is about the best word I can come up with to describe this place. I was quite excited to have dinner here, having read all about Michael Nadra's provenance on the restaurant's website and previewed the menu online. Some of the dishes on the menu sounded really rather good (despite no obvious common theme to the food) and I ended up having to make some tough choices for both my starter and main course - not at all a bad thing! There is either a 2/3 course pre-fixe menu (£30/36 per head) or a 6 course tasting menu (£55 per head). We opted for the 2/3 course which seemed to be of reasonable value, but did include a fair number of dishes for which a supplemental charge of up to £5 was levied. This is always a point of irritation for me on a prix-fixe but since I was on a rare visit home and with friends I didn't let it bother me. We ordered our meals along with a carafe each of the house red and white wines (this was basically a half bottle and I thought that offering this size on many of the wines on their list was a nice touch). Then the food came and I entered a world of extreme blandness. Imagine a beige world with beige trees and a beige sky in which everyone wears beige and has beige cars and paints their house beige. If I had not been able to see the food, guess what colour I would have guessed it to be... For a starter, I had "Confit duck ravioli with grilled duck hearts, swiss chard, sage & parmesan velouté". This dish should have been packed full of flavour - rich and powerful and gamey. Instead, I got some (decently made) ravioli with a filling that, in this instance, actually was beige! Certainly not the colour of duck. Or the flavour (mainly due to a lack of much flavour at all). The small slices of grilled duck heart sprinkled around the dish did help to bring it back from the brink of tastelessness, but only once the soupy cream sauce (the parmesan velouté?) had been washed away from them in your mouth. Top marks for innovation, not so much for execution (though presentation was good). For a main, I had "Grilled rump of lamb, sautéed sweetbreads & braised neck with ratatouille, flat beans & rosemary jus". Let's dissect this bit by bit. The rump was cooked very nicely but was VERY fatty (~25% of the thickness was fat) and was surprisingly lacking in flavour (there's that phrase again). Yes, lamb is a naturally fatty meat but a restaurant like this should be able to do a better job picking its cuts. And besides, lamb, when done right, is a truly wonderful thing. How they managed to make it bland I will never know. The sweetbreads were also very nicely cooked but had been rolled in so much garlic powder that they were actually mildly offensive. The neck had decent flavour but was greasy. The sides were all well cooked and tasty. Somehow, the dish just failed to come together as one. A little more care with seasoning and flavourings and a little more thought into how to bring all of the elements together could have transformed this from a nice looking plate of food with some good technical skill on display to a real gem of a dish. Desert was much more impressive than either of its predecessors, being both well conceived and well executed. I could have had seconds! Overall, I was somewhat underwhelmed with my meal and at £55/head (including unremarkable wine and a service charge of 19%(!) that was optional but conveniently added for you), I'd say that there are far more exciting, better value options in the area. Unless, of course, you really like beige.

Yelp
Surprisingly empty for such a nice restaurant. possibly due to its location tucked in a corner and the entrance being in the basement. First, the setting was very classy, the outdoor dining looked good for warmer nights, and the basement (where we sat) was pretty romantic. The service was very good, and the prices were more than reasonable for the quality of food. Portions were generous, and the quality of the food was high. We had the veal, salmon ceviche, scallops, duck salad, and breaded haddock as appetizers, and the steak, sea bass, duck breast, chicken breast, and cod as main dishes. We were way too full after that for desserts, whose menu looked pretty good as well.

Yelp
Great food - presentation, flavours and creativity but the place has no ambience, and the staff wasn't particularly friendly or personal in the way they approached us. Below standards for this price range, even though i must stress the quality of the food.

Yelp
It's great if you like the "minimalist" gourmet type of kitchen. I had "Tuna tartare & salmon ceviche with chilli pickled cucumber, shiso leaves & salmon crackling" as a starter, it came nicely decorated, the flavours combined well but it was really tiny. For a main I've ordered "Saffron tagliolini with grilled manouri chesse, french asparagus, kale & morel mushroom sauce", again quite small a portion for a hungry person. The dish was nicely garnished, the kale was very well prepared, the asparagus was bright green and crispy, but the tagliolini looked and tasted a bit like noodles. To cut the story short, if you are hungry you will need the 3 coarse menu plus lots of bread and butter (both gorgeous) plus 55£ per person (including the drinks and the service). The service was good. I liked the ambience, especially the music, as well. Not appropriate for kids. And there is no GSM connection in the basement so if you cannot do without your phone make sure you book a place on the ground floor.
