"Open since 1992, this Japanese restaurant is one of the country’s oldest. Its connection to Japanese culture is clear, as Midori means “green”, an obvious reference to the fantastic vegetation surrounding the Penha Longa hotel, merging into the lush mountains of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. An open kitchen, vinyl-covered walls, a beautiful mural designed by a Portuguese artist, and large windows are the backdrop for a pleasant, cosy atmosphere. The offering of talented Chef Pedro Almeida, here served up daily by the young resident chef Tiago Santo, reveals Portuguese cuisine with a Japanese soul, adopting the techniques of the Far East country and applying them to the best local produce. Across two tasting menus — Kiri and Yama, with 7 and 9 courses, respectively — the selection translates into bold dishes like the roasted tomato nigiri, the Kakuni-style beef tongue served with scorched aubergine and tomato, or the surprising dessert of Hachi (honey and oats)." - Michelin Inspector

Portland Food Writers’ Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings for 2023 | Eater Portland

"I was ecstatic to learn that Pedro Almeida is moving from Portugal to work at the Ritz-Carlton; he helmed the kitchen at Midori in Sintra, which earned (and still retains) a Michelin star in 2018, and Midori was an elevated Japanese restaurant with two tasting menus." - Eater Staff

Unfortunately, this restaurant did not live up to expectations. Good location, view, service, beautiful presentation, but regarding taste experience - I didn't like it. One half of the dishes were oversalted, the other - tasteless. As an experience - it's worth it, but I won't recommend it to my friends, people that I know and I have absolutely no desire to repeat it. Also it was a mix of so many ingredients at once, that I didn’t feel well in my stomach as well, if you are a sensitive too - keep on mind this.

Google
The most loveliest of meals! Situated on a beautiful resort and every table has a great view of the gardens. It is a truly relaxing and grand view. The service is also top notch, fun friendly and knowledgable staff. The meal itself I thoroughly enjoyed every course from presentation to flavor. A great take on Portuguese Japanese cuisine. Not sure why some people complained the meal was too long. We had the longer menu and it was finished in slightly over 2 hours. A must try in Portugal’

Okay, so I’m going to be the realest of the realest. I’m lucky enough to have the chance to (regularly) eat at some of the best restaurants in the world. Why do we love fine dining? It’s a complex answer, but COME ON PEOPLE… it’s the FOOD! If there is actually a story behind it all, coupled with great service and ambiance, then you’re getting five stars from me! Okay okay, three Michelin stars but five proverbial stars. From start to finish, this was one of the better meals I’ve had in the last few years. It’s chill, the (it’s giving Parasite vibes) views of the garden, the PAIRING, and the, againnnn, flavors of the food were all top notch. I’m gonna say it…I would not stay at this hotel and I’m still not committed to doing the other onsite 1 star venue (Lab), but this was a super pleasant surprise. 2 star food and ambiance. Some intangible details are lacking for the lower tier of three stars on the Michelin scale, but the food and pairing is up there with the best of the best! :)

Just experienced one of my favorite meals here at Midori! While the prices are quite steep and warrants a visit as a special occasion, I found the value to experience well worth the cost. We opted for the 9 course experience which consisted plates from appetizers, sashimi, sushi, cooked dishes to dessert. The portions were a bit small and reality was a good thing as there are so many dishes part of the experience that you should be beyond satisfied with the overall portion amount. Every dish we experienced was so beautifully prepared that it was almost a shame to eat instead of just view. Service was too notch as to be expected in a Michelin starred restaurant, but also to a bit to break the ice with our server to get a more relaxed experience. I’m not one for a stuffy environment. The restaurant is quite small, but perfectly set up in a very spacious way and for a good part of the meal, we had the place to our own. You will be seated overlooking the magical Sintra mountains and the well manicured grounds of the hotel. Every part of our experience was just great and highly suggest a visit for your next special occasion.

Exceptional, amazing, wonderful, lovely! I can only rave about this unique and tasty dining experience. The staff was so kind and attentive, the view of the mountains was lovely, the ambiance was very relaxing, and some of the dishes had delicious combinations of flavors I had never experienced that were truly challenging my brain (in the best most delightful way). I also came for my birthday, and they really made it feel very personal and special. The whole experience lasted about 3 hours, but for us it was definitely necessary in order to make space for all the food (9 "moments" aka 11 small courses). I would highly recommend it as they are doing an outstanding job. Thank you so much for the pleasure 😊

Google
It is a Japanese and Portuguese fusion restaurant. Midori is one of my favourites. The chef has local Portuguese ingredients such as Iberic pork shoulder Sukiyaki, Codfish Misoshiro, Snow Crab in the dessert and the Oliver oil gummies. He is creative and dare to try new ingredients with traditional culinary techniques. The details make perfection. The waitress used chop sticks to distribute the hot towels to us and changed to white gloves when fold my son’s napkin when he went to washroom. It has been an exciting experience.

Google
Excellent dining experience, would 100% recommend. Thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service was professional and very accommodating, and storytelling along with reasoning/creativity were perfectly aligned. Excellent value for the experience - Thank you!

Yelp
Oooooof...roll me out of this place! The service was phenomenal and the views were fab! I've been to sushi restaurants, I've been to Portuguese restaurants but this was something special. Every experience was delightful. My husband, who doesn't like seafood was INTO it. If I come back to Portugal anytime soon this will be on the to do list.

Yelp
This is it....search no more you have found bliss: hic sunt dracones (here there be dragons). The culinary gods have blessed us with Midori. Located in the outskirts of Sintra in the Penha Longa Resort is Midori, one of two Michelin starred restaurants that grace this property. Midori is reason enough to board a plane and cross the Atlantic. The chef, Pedro Almeida, has created a Japanese and Portuguese themed restaurant that was awarded a Michelin Star in November of 2018. The concept celebrates two great seafaring cultures and the influences of both on their gastronomic heritage. Mixing and combining ingredients, Chef Almeida shall blow your mind. The restaurant has only 6 tables all facing a rock zen garden. At night the mists of Sintra waif over the garden and hit the window. You are instantly transported to a misty Japanese forest. The setting and food are ethereal. Now the food. You have three menus too chose from we chose the Kiri Menu which has 8 servings. First is the Hassin kuzu tofu of cauliflower, shiitake mushroom and I am not making this up: fried shrimp head. Don't be squeamish. It is delicious. I will skip some of the servings as part of the experience is the sever describing what you are eating and which order to eat it. The sushi (shiitake mushroom, grilled mackerel nigiri fermented in garlic that leapt into your mouth) was the best I have had; it was food porn. My favorite piece was either the squid nigiri with lime or the smoked tuna nigiri. All of this is topped off with the pre dessert fake Yusuf mousse rock prepared by the dessert chef. The dish evokes the mists of Sintra served in a nitrogen infused Japanese bowl. A nod to the mixing of the two cultures. Service: par excellence, it is the lodestar of a culinary experience. Mariana, our server was amazing. My only regret was that I didn't try the wine pairing suggested by the Sommelier. He suggested a wine from the Azores; not knowing about these wines I passed. I should have taken a leap of faith. Reservations: a must. With only 6 tables highly recommended.

Yelp
The service was very good, and atmosphere nice. Only six tables so the space is small inside the restaurant. No sushi bar all tables, I like a bar. The tasting menu was good but not enough fish. Again this is a Michelin Star restaurant. It seems to me most of the meal was good, but the desserts as usual excelled. I'm no a dessert fan so it doesn't help my view of the restaurant . I'll enclose a copy of the menu at a later date

Yelp
Where to begin.... Service: Come for the food, come back for the service. The service was outstanding. From the greeting staff, to the water boy, to the server, to the incredible chefs. Chef Pedro Almeida is a artist!! His food is out of this world! The service was spot on. Water was never empty, beer never low. Food came at a nice flow. Service was top notch. The chef and his staff were incredible. I had the pleasure to sit at the sushi bar and see the artist at work. Each piece of sushi was expertly cut, then with the care of an artist put together in such a beautiful display. Each and every dish that came out was more creative than the next. Some pieces were so pretty I felt bad destroying them by eating them...but it was so good!!! The service impeccable. I saw the chef go around and great several tables --making a truly memorable night for so many guests! Ambience: Nice music in the background, dark / soft lighting, beautiful artwork and a very good sense of space in the restaurant. None of the tables were 'piled' upon one another. Everyone had a good buffer of space. Great intimate setting. Food: This is the real star of the show. The chef special, the sashimi and the rolls were all incredible. I would recommend trying the tuna, the yellow tail, the salmon and really anything the chef recommends. I would highly, highly recommend doing the 'chef' menu and let the genius's surprise you with the coolest fashion you have ever tried. Love, love, loved the experience, the food and the outstanding service. Chef Almeida made it a dining experience I will never forget! Alcohol: Nice fun drink menu. Great selection of wines as well as a nice selection of beers. Can't wait to come back!!

Yelp
One of the best Asian style restaurant ever. I would highly recommend the tasting menu and combine with their wine recommendations

Yelp
The most incredible service and best food of all of Sintra. Even if you're not staying at this hotel you MUST MUST MUST come for dinner. We were taken cared of by RAJ who is the most thoughtful, kind, and hospitable person. Saturday's is Japanese Portuguese fusion with vegan, meat, sushi with a twist. And the resort is in the middle of the mountains with breathtaking greenery. Totally recommend

Nahal Y.

Yelp
We had the most considerate beautiful server RAJ! He made the experience incredible. The food is also out of this world!

Yelp
Service is excellent. Food is basically fine, with fresh ingredients, but everything is very salty. Too salty so that it negatively affects the taste.
