Crave! Crave! There are certain unassuming places which leave you feeling so happy, so satisfied, that you wonder why is there not a proclaimed quote such as: I loved, I lived, I ate!
That is Midori in Nashville for me. I loved it so much we went there two times in a span of two weeks.
The ambience is low key, yet clean. So you can enjoy the food at your heart's content without the fluff. The seafood pancake is phenomenal and if you haven't tried it, you MUST. It is like an umami bomb- Salted right with oyster, squid, shrimp and eggs.
The bibimbap is delicious. It comes in sizzling cold stone pot. So there is something enigmatic watching beef cook in stone pot. And after you mix the rice and egg and veggies, the flavor is light but hearty. But if you are anything like me, bibimbap is incomplete without gochuchang. I relish the spicy edge it adds to the bibimbap. So you can play up the bibimbap to your taste.
Banchan!!! This is the best part about korean cuisine. The tray of 5/6 condiments that come with an order of main. Kimchi of different vegetables is a staple. And it usually varies. But these sides are what add to a meal. A little bite of kimchi cabbage, a bite of main.
What I absolutely love about asian food is how light it leaves one feeling. You could eat to your heart's content and yet you will feel bouncy and awake.
Midori offers an extensive menu of japanese and korean foods. They have an almost exhaustive list of sushi, which does make deciding difficult. But if I can recommend, it would be the crazy roll, the one with the spicy mayo crunchy shrimp. It is a little spicy, sweet from the shrimp and the crunch really adds texture. Soooo good, probably one of the best. The quality and flavor is good and prices are pretty fair!
We were in Korea earlier this year and all I can say is, if I want to get my korean fix, I am coming to midori. They have some authentic korean food and there is so many different foods to try, a single visit isn't enough. Also the sushi to the food is well priced. I can say from all the things we tried, there wasn't anything we didn't enjoy.
So if this is your first foray into Korean cuisine, I highly recommend the seafood pancake, the bibimbap, bulgogi and gal bi.
And to Midori...Masshiseyo!!! Jinjja Masshiseyo!!
