Why Miami Omakases Are So Expensive? | Eater Miami

"Offering one of Miami’s more opulent dining experiences, Mila Omakase serves a 15-course menu starting at $195 for both regular and vegan options, with optional wine or sake pairings ranging $125 to $350—making an evening for two potentially exceed $1,000. Chef Michael Michaelidis bills the meal as a “luxurious journey” and a “one-of-a-kind multisensory experience,” justified by luxe ingredients such as Golden Oscietra caviar, A5 wagyu from Kagoshima, sea urchin from Hokkaido, Alba white truffles, and Akamatsu sea perch (which can fetch well over $100 a pound at Tokyo fish markets)." - Laine Doss

Miami’s 16 Best Japanese Restaurants for Omakase | Eater Miami

"Opened in November 2022 by Riviera Dining Group, MILA Omakase is located on the second level of MILA’s trendy rooftop lounge. The serene, minimalist space features cherry blossom trees, sleek wooden elements, a marble countertop, and a 500-year-old hinoki wood cutting board. Under the guidance of chefs Michael Michaelidis and Reiji Yoshizawa, the 15-course, 10-seat omakase experience embraces Japan’s 72 micro-seasons while incorporating a Mediterranean twist, appeasing fans of both culinary traditions." - Alona Martinez

Mila - Review - South Beach - Miami - The Infatuation

"Lincoln Road is not synonymous with the best of Miami food, and that’s putting it kindly. There are more appetizing things to eat inside the street’s Sketchers store than in most of the area’s insufferably touristy, hookah smoke-filled spots. But Mila, an untz-untz see-and-be-seen rooftop restaurant, stands out from the rest of the Lincoln Road options—for mostly good reasons. It is, like its peers, pricier than it ought to be. But unlike those peers, the food isn’t an afterthought. Some of it’s actually tasty. Plus, the restaurant has a sleek design that’s not aesthetically chaotic and some pretty outdoor patio seating. If we sound surprised, that’s because we typically have low expectations for restaurants with $20 cocktails, fire dancers in the dining room, signs warning about dress code, and a Tulum-y house soundtrack that’s turned up three notches too loud. These are the kind of places one usually gets dragged to for a bachelor/bachelorette party, or because a friend who’s staying in town wants to see a celebrity. Mila is definitely that kind of place. But at least here, you will be served dishes that aren’t just meant to soak up obnoxiously-priced bottles of alcohol. There are crudos you’ll actually enjoy, tender satay-glazed chicken, and properly grilled vegetables. This place still isn’t our first choice for much, because issues do exist. The “MediterrAsian” menu is vague and doesn’t really do justice to either cuisine. Menu descriptions sound way more ambitious than they end up tasting, and portions can best be described as nibble-size. You’ll leave slightly hungry and having spent enough money to make you wince when you check your bank account the next day. But there are far more brutal sacrifices one can make on a quest to eat at a sceney South Beach restaurant. Trust us. And worst-case scenario, you’ll get to watch someone twirl fire in the dining room while you curse that friend who dragged you here only to spend all of dinner texting a promoter. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE Food Rundown Dorade Crudo The fish in this crudo is tender and buttery. The blood orange ponzu could have a bit more punch, but overall this is a good dish to have on the table. Shawarma Wagyu Gyoza Don’t ask us what makes these gyoza “shawarma” because we truly have no idea and were offered no explanation. Still, they have pleasantly crispy bottoms and flavorful beef fillings. They are quite tiny, though. Satay Glazed Chicken This is another dish we like, but wish had a few more more bites (especially for $16). The skewers of satay-glazed chicken thighs are indeed super tender. Just know that you’ll only get two skewers, so plan accordingly. Grilled Artichokes You might not remember these grilled artichokes the next day, but you will happily finish them. The crispy sunchoke chips might be the best part of the dish—even better than the shaved truffle that's contributing about as much as your friend who won’t get off their phone. Spicy Tuna Maki Mila’s sushi is really disappointing. You won’t spit it out, but you’ll be mad it’s just so aggressively average. The maki in particular—especially the spicy tuna—is stuffed with pathetically small amounts of bland fish." - Ryan Pfeffer

Google
I dined at Mila Omakase on Thursday, October 23rd, 2025, and while the overall experience was impressive, a few concerning practices ultimately brought it down — hence my 2-star rating. Like many other reviewers, I agree that the food, service, and ambiance are top-notch. The quality of the sushi was excellent, and the chef’s skill was evident throughout the meal. However, I encountered a few issues that I feel prospective diners should be aware of. First, at the start of dinner, we were asked if we preferred still or sparkling water. My wife and I each chose still, and they brought out a large bottle of Evian. We later discovered we were charged $11 per person — without any mention that there would be an additional charge. It’s a small detail, but at this price point, I would expect more transparency. Second, after the Omakase portion of the meal, the chef kindly offered each guest one additional piece of any sushi they’d enjoyed most. This seemed like a thoughtful gesture, but we were later surprised to find that we’d been charged extra for that piece — again, without prior notice. For a $200-per-person dining experience, that extra should either be included or clearly communicated. Lastly, while the quality of the food was outstanding, the portion sizes were on the lighter side, and we both left feeling slightly unsatisfied. All in all, Mila Omakase offers exceptional food and presentation, but the lack of transparency around hidden charges added nearly $100 to our bill and left a bad taste in what could have been an otherwise perfect evening.

The room at MILA Omakase is stunning. You walk in and immediately feel engaged and in a good mood, which is exactly what you want before a long tasting menu. The omakase runs about fifteen courses, and it has a mix of real highs and a few dishes that need proper tuning. The highlights are easy to spot. The hotate is the star of the night—beautifully balanced, clean, and full of flavor. The sushi courses follow the same line: thoughtful, well-seasoned, and simply delicious. But some dishes miss the mark. The A5 wagyu should be the knockout moment, yet it’s buried under too many competing flavors. It’s rich on its own; it doesn’t need all the noise. The matsutake course feels bland and out of place, and the quince gratin is so sweet it drowns everything else out. The wine pairing is a mixed bag. Some pairings work nicely, others feel off. They’ve recently changed the menu, and you can tell they’re still calibrating how the wines fit with the dishes. A bit more refinement and it’ll get there. So yes, it’s an evening with ups and downs, but overall it’s a good experience in a beautiful space. With a few adjustments, it could be great.

Google
Very cute place, lots of fun! We were here with friends and spent a very good time there together. One thing that we didn’t like, is that when we paid the bills, the stuff started to push us to leave immediately ,cause they were offering our table to other people.

Mila Omakase was an amazing experience from start to finish. Every course was beautifully presented and thoughtfully paced, with incredibly fresh ingredients and bold, balanced flavors. The chef’s attention to detail and explanation of each dish made the meal feel both intimate and special. Service was warm and attentive, and the overall atmosphere elevated the entire experience. Truly a memorable omakase and absolutely worth it.

Google
Worth it- such a good experience! Never have you tasted such fresh flavor in your life - truly unforgettable experience Reiji and J.M did an excellent job of speaking through each item and were funny and lighthearted. The rest of the support staff were also amazing. As I already mentioned, the food was incredible and I still think of all the flavors today! There is a sake pairing that you can do as well with the experience- I would add it as it was well worth it. I look forward to coming back soon!

Wow. Just wow! Everything was absolutely amazing. Delicious! We went for our anniversary and enjoyed the amazing service and delicious food. This omakase experience is probably the best I have ever had!!! Their cocktails were perfectly crafted!

Yelp
One of the sexiest Omakase experiences I been too. First the location and the vibes in this place the moment you walk in is amazing. You are lead downstairs to a perfectly lid bar lounge while you wait to get seated. This lounge is the amazing to go after you are done with dinner. The chef is amazing interacts with you and explains each dish as the Omakase experience goes on. This is not your traditional I dare to say very quiet serious Omakase experience. Mind you the food is serious business, seriously delicious. But you have fun while enjoying it. I could do this Omakase again and again. Amazing food, great drinks and awesome atmosphere and service. Highly recommend it and after do experience their lounge. It makes for a great fun nigh

Yelp
Just had a great experience at our sushi class at Mila! I've gone to Mila now a few times but never the sushi class. The service was fantastic, the drinks were amazing, and the learning/ food was definitely an experience. I will say I was expecting to make nigiri but the sushi was still very good and the gifts at the end warmed my heart. I do think that since it was sushi and not nigiri the experience was a bit pricey, but overall I would recommend and do it again. The food was good but the service is what really made it great. Yelp
Omakase at Mila is incredibly intimate, set in a private room with ten seats. It's beautifully curated and so fun to watch. Some memorable courses were monkfish liver, wagyu with fresh truffle, and tonka bean ice cream. At $195, it's a splurge, but it was incredible. I left SO full.

Yelp
This was the best restaurant experience I have ever had by far. This was my first omakase and I find it hard to even imagine how another could top this one. First, the service was exquisite. The staff really made you feel valued from the beginning to the end. Their attention to detail and ensuring a perfect dining experience was truly unique. Upon being taken to the private omakase room, we were greeted by the chef and staff. The chef was very kind and it was great to chat about the dishes as he was preparing them. This was a 15 course dinner and I was very impressed by how it was so diligently and seamlessly thought out. Every dish was incredibly. My favorites were the otoro and the A5 wagyu--the absolute best piece of steak I have ever had in my life...and I have a lot of steak on a regular basis. Every single dish was literally handcrafted to perfection with the utmost care and fresh ingredients you don't just get anywhere. After every course, I couldn't see how the next course would beat/compare to the other, and somehow they all did. All in all, I could write a novel about this place, and not just about the food, but about the exquisite fine dining experience and the chef's genuine love for food that served as a catalyst for every mindblowing course. I highly recommend and I cannot wait to come back!

Yelp
A fantastic sushi experience. Delicious and innovative accompanying dishes, especially the amuse bouche. Unbelievable decor and the chefs and staff were professional, attentive, and skilled. The fish was a star as well. The head chef even mixed it up, the fattier the fish in most omakase places, the later in the service it comes out, after the amuse vouch and other dishes, the first sushi piece was Otoro with caviar. A great way to change things up. A special mention for the soba despacho; delicious, innovative, and combining the best of East and West. The other cross cuisine innovation was combining uni with jamon iberico. Who would have ever thought of these two innovations? A great evening and I will return as their menu changes seasonally.

Yelp
One of the greatest omakase experiences in my opinion. 100% recommended. Food - 5 stars Service - 5 stars Ambiance - 5 stars Just one thing to note, next time I will not do the pairing, I will stick to only sake or cocktails. Other than that, it was 100/100. Can't wait to return. Thanks Mila!

Yelp
This review was at the Mila Omakase room but for a pop-up dinner with Dominique Crenn, the first and only 3 star female Michelin Chef in the United States. I have not been able to get a reservation at her Atelier Crenn in my visits to San Francisco so I jumped at the chance to see her here in Miami. Even though the price was over $1,200 per person with tax, tip, wine, it was well worth it for the opportunity to spend time with Dominique and a small handful of diners. The regular Omakase here is only about $260 pp +++ and I hear it is excellent. I realize that you will probably not have the opportunity to have another dinner here with Dominique but you might be interested in coming here for the Omakase. The culinary director here has been responsible for and worked at Michelin restaurants in France, Monaco, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, having spent 12 years with the Robuchon group. He insures the quality of the food at the Omakase and in the restaurant is something you will not be disappointed with. Mila is a multi venue restaurant, roof terrace, separate club and private members only club. Mila Omakase is in a room for only 10-12 people located downstairs from the main restaurant and next to the private club bar. Private club membership is $5,000 I believe, but you can go to the Omakase without being a member. The former Sommelier from Thomas Keller's Surf Club presides over the wine list here. Mila has become one of the most successful restaurants not only in South Florida but in the US. The reason for it is they hit all the right notes, venue, atmosphere, food quality and presentation, cocktails, wines, service, entertainment. There is something for everyone, as long as you have some credit cards with decent credit lines, lol. Reservations are mandatory, and hard to come by especially on weekends. They do not want people to come only for a drink and an appetizer to enjoy the view and entertainment. They want patrons who enjoy great food, wine, cocktails, spirits and are not on a budget. Do not think about walking in without a reservation unless you are a Super Model. Photos are from Dominique's dinner with her team from San Francisco assisted by the Culinary director of Mila.

Yelp
Amazing. I must have echoed this over 20 times tonight when describing MILA's omakase experience, ambiance, service, food quality and creativity. Entering MILA you are greeted by a bouncer. Go up three floors. Check in to a special hostess and head downstairs to check in once more. There's a club / lounge / bar waiting area that's a little amped (a bit too much for me), but with a nice classy interior. They had a lot of security who were friendly, well presented and also made you feel safe and as if they had a handle over the bubbling crowd. I felt it a little awkward trying to get a drink at the bar, but once I was able to it was nicely made and friendly service. I'd say the music later in the night was so loud it seeped through the Omakase private area which was possibly the only minor blemish of my experience tonight. On the upside, you can, if you want, stick around after to enjoy the scene if it's for you. When you're called for the omakase you pass through the members lounge bar area and enter a private room with about ten seats, gorgeous marble table and cherry blossom tree. The chefs are already hard at work with prep, you're teased with the visibility of what's to come as well as the amazing flavor aroma. You have 360 service from direct attention from the chefs, waitstaff, sommelier and a cast of support staff. Everyone was very helpful, friendly and efficient. They presented themselves all professionally and well. The premium fish is of highest quality and preparation. What stands out are the well executed risks with its fusion of flavors and creativity of the dishes. Each stood on its own and you can tell a lot of craft and detail went into it. My favorite was the uni course which had a jamon topping. First time I ever had that and it worked incredibly well. You had traditional pieces topped with caviar and truffles, dashi scallops, amazing paired sauces and more. Order a cocktail. My old fashion came deconstructed and prepared table side, the core elixir engulfed in a honeycomb womb prior to pour. I could tell other patrons stopped what they were doing to see what it was about too. Tonight's dessert was a hand crafted / painted apple dish that almost felt criminal to dig into due to the detail that went into making it (vegan too). On that point, they did an amazing job with honoring my pre confirmed dietary restrictions and never once did I feel concern that their confirmed requests were at jeopardy. Outside of that, I really liked the presentation and plating. It was all a very superior experience. I'll leave my review here and let you experience the rest on your own. You won't be disappointed! As for parking, you have valet, street, or ample garages around the Lincoln rd area. It's a nice, safe place to walk before and/or after too.

Yelp
I don't know where to begin... visiting Mila Omakase was a life changing experience for me. I am so glad it was my first Omakase experience (it definitely won't be my last). The food, service, environment, and drinks were over the top. Everything was amazing. We celebrated my birthday. They accommodated my request to taste Uni for the first time. Chef Reji was the best! He made the whole experience unforgettable. He went as far as to print a menu of the night's menu and sign it for me so I would never forget the courses. My favorite was the King Salmon and the Otoro. These two pieces melted in my mouth, along with the A5 Wagyu. All dishes were curated so carefully and beautifully. It was wonderful to be able to watch the chef's create them. I can't wait to come back and dine again at Mila Omakase. Thank you for the wonderful birthday Omakase experience.

Yelp
I probably had the best dining experience here. I can't describe what I felt when I was going through my first bite and the feeling and emotions just kept going all the way until the end. Don't think twice and gift yourself this experience. The chef, JJ and all the team do an amazing job! Thanks again for a great night! I'll be back whenever I'm in town.

Yelp
If you are looking for your ole standard run of the mill omakase place then this ain't it. What can only be described as what you would hope any above average meal to be. This was one of the top 3 omakase experiences Ive had. Food - 10 out of 10. The creativity and flavors were outstanding. There were 15 courses and I didn't need a slice of pizza at the end! I was full. Service - 10 out of 10. Friendly. Hospitable. Very accommodating. Chef was the nicest guy. Very genuine and made you feel good to be there. Ambience - 10 out of 10. Felt like I was in Morocco until I walked into the private sushi den which has a beautiful cherry blossom tree and soothing music so you can relax and enjoy the meal. Bottom line this place is one of a kind and a great experience. Would recommend.

Yelp
I think my omakase experience has forever been changed This was an unforgettable experience @milaomakase the service was top notch, the quality of fish was perfect, and the atmosphere was above and beyond. This experience doesn't come cheap at $295 but it's truly spectacular and I couldn't recommend this spot enough. My favorites in order of appearance - the sea bass is the number 2 highest cost of fish in the market right now and it melts in your mouth

Yelp
I loved EVERYTHING about this restaurant. The food is to die for! The service was top notch, too. Just go here, thank me later.

Yelp
This was an incredible experience. The room is small and intimate. 10 seats. The chef is so talented and friendly. The food was perfection! The price for Omakase is one of the better priced options in Miami. Access to the lounge after was a cherry on top! The vibes are IT!

Yelp
MILA Omakase is undoubtedly the best omakase experience in the city, if not the best I've experienced in general (coming from a self-acclaimed omakase connoisseur). Worth every penny. We attended a 6:00p (the first of two) seating on a Saturday night which is $260pp. You check-in with a separate hostess from the regular restaurant, who sends you down a staircase toward the lounge where you can enjoy a private bar (the lounge isn't open to the public for the first seating) because you have to arrive 15 minutes early. You are then guided to take your place at a 10-person intimate bar set up underneath a Japanese cherry blossom tree. We were immediately greeted by a sommelier specializing in sake. There are a few sake pairing options (which start at $150pp) but we opted for a bottle selected by the sommelier (which was incredible) and he taught us a lot about sake. The executive chef walks you through the 15-course omakase dinner: Asian-style omakase with Mediterranean influence, curated by a 26-Michelin star chef. Every course was absolutely delicious, fresh, and the highest-quality and meticulously-prepared fish I have ever had. One of the courses (for our seating- it may change depending on what the chef gets in that week) included an A5 wagyu (the best in the world) that I cut with my fork. We had the benefit of a French chef being in our seating, and watching the chef interact with the executive chef was both educational and fascinating. The service was incredible and nearly at a 1:1 ratio (two chefs, two servers, the sommelier, and a manager). No detail went unnoticed and no need went unmet. The manager was able to snag us a table in the club (the area that was closed when we first arrived) after dinner to enjoy (another) delicious cocktail and (continuously) incredible service. See you again very soon, MILA Omakase!

Yelp
This entire experience was wonderful. You will not be coming here for an inexpensive night, so take that into account. That being said, I've never felt it was more worth it. We've tried quite a few of all the various and delicious other locations offering omakase. This is now top of my list. The menu does vary, and the attention to detail is marvelous. The service was fabulous and the food...I can't say enough as to how much each course was a true sensory and taste revelation. I found nothing to critique. I would come back here weekly if we lived closer and my finances would allow it! I'm still going to try for at least once a month! They are doing art at Mila Omakase. Art.

Yelp
Came to Miami to celebrate a couple 40th birthdays. The food was great! Felibe was amazing! He was so attentive. He definitely elevated our experience! Highly recommend!
