"It doesn’t matter if you visit Minetta Tavern for a cocktail at the bar alone on a Tuesday or plan weeks (months?) ahead for a Saturday dinner with friends that stress tests your credit limit. Much like at the original New York location, both experiences will feel special. The vibes—and seemingly the decor—have been air-lifted from Greenwich Village to Union Market, with buttered yellow light, black-and-white tiled floors, and burgundy banquette booths just asking to be splashed with a bit of gin from a full martini. Whenever you go, and for whatever occasion, order the coq au vin served with housemade gnocchi and wash it down with a Burgundy from the deep and French-leaning wine list." - omnia saed, madeline weinfield, jonathan smith, mekita rivas, allison robicelli, omnia saed, kym backer
"A storied Village haunt dating to 1937 that was reimagined under new ownership in 2009 with heightened, theatrical ambience—pressed tin ceilings and cherry-red leather banquettes—and a kitchen that turned out an oft-cited best-in-city burger as well as a dry-aged côte de boeuf worthy of top steakhouses." - David Farley
"The DC outpost of New York’s beloved Minetta Tavern serves roasted bone marrow, french onion soup, a dry-aged bone-in New York strip, and, of course, its famous burger, in Union Market." - omnia saed
"The finger sandwich of lobster rolls, available only at lunch or brunch. Though not small, Minetta Tavern’s roll is somehow dainty. You’ll get just the thinnest sheen of butter on your fingers from eating it, and it’s also easy to cut up with a knife. Lobster, in a light, tarragon-infused aioli, bulges neatly out of a thin brioche roll, and there’s radish for a little crunch. We could do with a slightly higher ratio of meat-to-bread, but an absolute arsenal of Minetta’s perfect fries makes up for any mild flaws." - willa moore, bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah
"With some planning, you can usually get a dinner reservation at this classic big-red-banquette bistro in Greenwich Village, but lunch is a little more laid-back. You’ll see solo diners reading books and sipping their glass of complimentary champagne, and couples sharing those famous burgers or french dip. The fine-tuned service also make for a seamless business lunch, in a relaxed atmosphere that’s especially appropriate if you work in a more creative field." - willa moore, bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, will hartman, sonal shah
