Minnesota Street Project

We went to a variety of the galleries in this building where there are many galleries specializing in different types of art. What a great way to see what is going on in contemporary art right now! They have two other buildings on the same street. So we didn't even get to see all of the first building in the 90 minutes we were there let alone the other two buildings. You could probably spend the whole day exploring all the art.

What a cool space for artists. This particular space was designed by Ramon Abad and it was interactive art. People can be creative here and make their own puppets. There are a ton of other galleries in this space.

San Fran Art Book Fair was zany, bohemian, eye popping , eye opener; perhaps because I am so mainstream and bourgeois; I was able to be calm and move on. Liked the friendly staff, artists were great in opening up about their work.

The Minnesota Street Project is a portal to a little world within San Francisco. Within the walls of the warehouse space lie a myriad of galleries, which are separate in name/business but hold together as a coherent showcase of the state of contemporary art. Perfect for a weekend wander to fill the mind and body with a range of striking and thought provoking art.

Interesting place for art. Doesn’t maybe feel like there is any cohesion between the different studios and it is a little difficult to get an idea of what is on exhibit.

Great space for the former “Downtown” Galleries to relocate with ample parking near Dogpatch. Kool restaurants nearby too!

This is a rating for the event space, not necessarily the special exhibits. The gallery is housed in a pristine, modern building, with an adjacent coffee shop! Parking can be found within 1-3 blocks. While I wasn't a fan of the galleries, this is a great location for finding new, local artists or even a date!

So many different art galleries and exhibits to roam around freely and explore, most of them to be found at 1275 Minnesota Street (which has an attached bar/restaurant, Besharam), including hand saw art (Rico Solinas You Never Know), Manifest Differently film room, and Natalya Burd's electric wonderland showcasing trees and nature with a neon mirror effect. There were more exhibits to see at 1150 25th Street, including An Opera of Whispers, a unique representation of communication through objects. Rohini Devasher's One Hundred Thousand Suns was located in its own separate space (1201 Minnesota St.) with captivating fabric printed artworks hanging from the vaulted ceiling, and a dark film room with multiple screens playing and plenty of comfy seating for visitors (though the place was quite empty on a Saturday afternoon). This exhibition combines art and science to depict various dimensions of the sun. Best part of the Minnesota Street Project, no cost to visit and admire the amazing works of diverse and skilled artists.

The Dogpatch neighborhood has a lot of art museums/galleries, and Minnesota Street Project is our favorite. Inhabiting 3 warehouses, there are 15 galleries spread out on two floors around a central courtyard, and on one end is a wide wooden staircase the spans both floors and you can sit there and rest or people watch. Due to the number of galleries there, you can view a wide variety of art styles. There is also a restaurant, but it only serves dinner. Best thing about the museum is that the admission is always free, as the place was founded by entrepreneurs and collectors Deborah and Andy Rappaport, who believed that philanthropic support for the arts today requires an alternate model--one suited to the innovative nature of Silicon Valley and the region as a whole.

This is hands-down my favorite recommended art gallery space in SF, recently Just moved here from NYC. Incredible galleries, community and programming with artist talks and performances on first Saturdays. There are cute restaurants in the Dogpatch area, as well, making MSP a perfect art-day destination! I highly recommend.

Came here first-time for CCA's thesis exhibit. -Ambiance: cozy, fun, good lighting, relaxing. Each show room is a bit different in size and layout, however I like best the ones with huge windows. Light comes in & it adds taste to the artworks. - Open space. High ceiling. Large Stair case is also made for rest. They can be used as benches. The structure of the gallery is very straightforward. Side by side rooms, left and right aisles, bridged by the common area and the stairway. - Surrounding neighborhood is a typical Potrero Hill/ Dogpatch scene. Philz coffee just a block away, plenty of parking. Quiet, chill, not a lot of traffic. Some furniture store and design studios. Walking distance to other galleries. - Overall a good experience.

What a great space for art. Located on a pretty quite street with a Philz coffee across the street and a restaurant inside, the Minnesota Street Project holds several galleries. Two floors worth. Today we saw some pretty contemporary works. Not something for everyone, but it is a good spot to visit. We learned that they have a first Saturday night too. Street parking was plenty during the day. Although we took public transportation. From Bart, take the T and it gets you right there with just a tiny walk.

Such a great concept! Lots of open galleries inside this building. Free street parking all around and a Philz Coffee right across the street. I came here with a couple of friends to see the "Kenny Scharf Presents 'The Cosmic Cavern'" art exhibit. It was an amazing experience and I was glad to take a part of Mickey's 90th anniversary. Once we were done with this gallery, we made our way to the others and were equally impressed. Would definitely recommend to other artsy folks in the area.

The Minnesota Street Project has a couple different buildings that are not all connected, so make sure you get the map. They have one building that is not accessible for visitors. Artists rent space to show their artwork here. The artists are constantly changing. You will find that some of the spaces are empty for this reason. My girlfriends and I walked around the different buildings and really enjoyed the different exhibit. We never knew what to expect as our interactions with the artists were all unique. Some of the artist took the time to chat with us and tell us the story behind their work. Other artists had their doors closed because they were working, so we watched through the window. If you enjoy looking at different types of art, this is the place to go!

Though I am somewhat a follower of the SF art scene, I didn't know about this gallery space until yesterday. My friend texted me and reminded me that Da Vinci's "Salvator Mundi" would be on display on Minnesota Street, so I felt like going. I got there around 3pm and waited maybe an hour to get in. I think it closed at 5pm and that was the last day of the showing. The piece will get shipped off to NY for an auction($100 million). The piece was at the Christie's space. There were some famous modern art pieces there too like De Kooning, Basquiat, Ruscha, Pollock, etc. There are many rooms in this one building I was in. I guess they are separate galleries. There was a lot to see and it was presented well. I saw the art dealer who is selling Dave Eggers artwork. I saw him at the Fort Mason art exhibition in May. It was so cool to see the rare Da Vinci at this building yesterday. In the summer, I saw the Mona Lisa and another piece Virgin of the Rocks in London. This is the year of Da Vinci for me.

Cool galleries in the Minnesota Street Project that has various artists exhibiting their works.

Pure artistic heaven. Where else can you get a free gallery with rotating art like this. Seriously, that was a serious question. Where? Art selection appeals to the younger contemporary crowd and guess what... If your lucky you will find a live rehearsal of a dance group or synthesized instrumentalist. I once walked into an electric harp player. I made it a pact with myself to come here once a months so I can try to see everything. The cities gem and an artistic sanctuary for me. PURE SF LOVE.

Pretty rad art space. Received a sneak preview of a photography exhibit for students of Ansel Adams from the 40s-50s era SFAI. All of the gallery owners were friendly and educational. I'm not sure I could afford anything from here, but it was a great experience.

One of my favorite places in SF. This place gives me so much hope for the SF art scene, from the high-calibre galleries, to the support for emerging artists by hosting MFA shows and providing studios, to the salons and pop-up dinners, I can't wait to spend many more weekends here.

Came for the opening of the new contemporary Saudi art exhibition. What an amazing show in an amazing space. I hope that it continues to thrive.

Cool spot for a bunch of galleries away from the normal spaces up in the city. A bit more of a "techno" feel to the art with a lot of computerized and motorized and interactive art than galleries downtown. I'm not sure how much art they're selling in the space, but I hope they hang on and succeed.

I'm so happy to have visited this exciting new art venue in San Francisco. The space has a variety of different galleries which makes gallery hopping easy. It is festive and a great place to hang out. The first Saturday of the month the galleries stay open late which is especially fun when they have wine receptions. There are also performances in the common gathering space. It's a fantastic place to see art! I hear there's a great new bar and restaurant opening in building this fall.
