The Best Soups to Sip in Phoenix

"Family-owned and operated New York-style delicatessen Miracle Mile has mastered comfort food during its over 75 years in the Valley, with recipes passed down through its three generations of operators. Its traditional, homemade matzoh ball soup stars light and fluffy matzoh balls, making it a great main dish or a side that can be ordered as a cup to pair with one of the deli’s many sandwiches. You can easily order from the deli counter and take your soup home, or get cozy with a bowl of soup in one of Miracle Mile’s comfortable brown booths." - jamiekillin

The Best Classic Restaurants in Phoenix | Eater Phoenix

"This New York-style deli and catering company, founded by Brooklyn native Jack Grodzinsky, has been a Phoenix fixture since 1949, turning out towering sandwiches stuffed with pastrami, corned beef, brisket, turkey, and all the usual deli fixings. Over the years, various locations have opened and closed, and now, this sleek new incarnation is all that’s left of the former mini empire. But no matter. The sandwiches are as delicious, comforting, and filling as ever. Try the famous “Straw” — hot pastrami, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut piled on the bread or roll of your choice — or be virtuous with one of a half-dozen healthy salads, a nod to changing times." - Nikki Buchanan

If you have never been to this Deli you need to go. Don't pay attention to any bad reviews. I came here for lunch to meet up with a friend that lives in the area I am from Washington state. We all three ordered something different and I can just say it is so good they make it right on the spot for you so there's no really wait time while we were out there eating the owner came out to talk to us. I felt just so blessed to meet him and talk to him. We sat out on their porch it wasn't really hot in the shade the whole place was burming with happiness if you have never tried their desserts I suggested. If I lived here it would be my go to. The parking lot was so full I parked across the street. Thanks again for the best meal!

This sandwich shop in Phoenix Midtown is an absolute gem! If you’re craving a true New York-style deli sandwich, this is the place to be. The portions are huge, the flavors are incredible, and the place itself is spacious with plenty of parking—a rare find! I tried the BBQ chicken sandwich on onion bread, and wow—the bread was unbelievably soft and fluffy, complementing the smoky, savory filling perfectly. If you’re in the area, this is a must-try spot for any sandwich lover!

Google
What a bummer. I had to wait for 20 minutes for a Ruben. I the meantime my wife ate her corned beef and cabbage dinner. It was a special outing for her on St. Patrick’s Day. We usually make it ourselves. She liked hers and my Ruben arrived while she was finishing hers. We spent about $60. I can’t tell you it was worth it. My Ruben had soggy rye bread on one side of the sandwich, the down side. It must’ve sat there a long time. The cherry cheese cake looked very impressive and tasted pretty good. The chocolate shake was good. They hand out a ton of meat and I always plan on eating only half and taking the rest to go. We’ll come back again but it’s not going to be for a while. I wish it was a little more like a Jewish deli than a cafeteria but what do I know. I’ve only been to a couple of real Jewish delis. I’m always excited to go here because it brings back a lot of memories from my childhood and my Jewish family members. like I said we’ll be back.

Google
Another difficult review to make based on contradictory review topics On the upside, the Straw Sandwich is one of the best in the entire country, hands down. On the down. Typically the deserts are superb but rarely ordered since they serve such huge main course dishes. I bought a full coconut meringue pie (to go) for the family. Unfortunately, they must have changed the recipe and went with artificial coconut flavoring. It tasted like having sunscreen in your mouth. If it wasn't a half hour drive I would be taking the pie back for a refund and most likely having another Straw😀

Google
The food was decent but crazy expensive. 2 hot pastramis, 2 cups of soup and 2 drinks for $50?! While it was a decent pastrami it was not piled high like the photos and with there being so many options in the city, I can't see myself coming back at these prices unfortunately

Google
This place has gone down hill. Please see photos. They should be embarrassed 18.50 for sandwich and coleslaw. Wow very little meat. Will not be coming back. They overcharge for everything. Other Jewish deli’s charge 22 per pound for takeout corned beef lunch meat. This place is at 35. This place is a rip off.

Google
Fantastic! This was my first time here, and all the staff members were very friendly. The food was quick and delicious. I had the New Yorker. The dining room and bathrooms were very clean. There were about 15 senior couples and I didn't hear a single grumble from any of them. I can't remember the last time I went somewhere with that many seniors and younger people as patrons, and everyone was happy with their service. Keep up the great work everyone! I'll definitely be back!

Google
Family went today for a birthday. I got the July special which was half sandwich and one side for $12 after tax. Everyone else had full sandwich and side. Everything was fantastic. Full sandwiches were around $18, but worth it! All staff was very nice and also very helpful when we wanted some pictures taken. I would highly recommend.

Yelp
Fun Deli cafeteria! Been a fan for decades and this location is one of their newest. Used to patronize their former Thomas Mall and Christown Mall locations. Get in line, grab a tray move along the food line. See what you want point and servers begin serving up plates of your choices. Plenty of seating and parking. Some of the best traditional Deli food around. Stuffed Cabbage is my personal favorite! Give them a try you won't regret.

Yelp
Split the combo - hot pastrami and hot corned beef on rye with a side of coleslaw and macaroni salad The sandwich was good, the meat could have been a bit hotter. But it was very tasty. It isn't quite NY deli but for Arizona it is about the closest you can get.

Yelp
This is a place that I imagine was great 40 years ago, and is just passable now. Their cheesesteak was chopped so much it felt like dogfood in my peppers. To be fair, I did not try their pastrami and it looked a lot better than what I got. But for nearly $50 for two sandwiches I had higher expectations.

Yelp
Service was outstanding. We enjoyed a delicious meal. Jeovanni was very attentive and accommodating even though its cafeteria style he was super kind and bilingual. I highly recommend. Portions are generous and shareable.

Yelp
I wouldn't have stopped in if it weren't for the $7.50 July special- half of a sandwich and a side. The turkacado I ordered (turkey breast, bacon, Cheddar, avocado, lettuce, tomato, red onion and chipotle mayo) is $16.50 for the entire sandwich! Other sandwiches fall in the $13.50- 22 range. The turkacado was fine- neither the deli turkey nor onion roll tasted better or fresher than the average sandwich shop. It was also rather skimpy on the turkey. The pasta salad was absolutely flavorless. I can't justify returning, considering there are other delis that are both less expensive and tastier.

Yelp
Let me reiterate what a great restaurant Miracle Mile is. Best Jewish comfort food in town. From the long-term employees who make the most mouth-watering variety of sandwiches, soups, entrees and chicken soup that is so golden, it has 24 carrots. For me, it is the pastrami. Best in town. Been eating this delicious meat since 2006 in Arrowhead and Camelback Rd locations. Introduce yourself to Josh, when you go. Service, friendly people and the food. Go right now.

Yelp
Came for lunch with colleagues. We got there right when they opened so there was no wait although it didn't take long for the order line to form! You order at the counter and you can watch as they build your meal, which is always fun! I tried the Big Dipper, which was huge! Lots of meat and a good portion of dipping au jus to go along with it. Flavorful and with the soft bread, it just created the best wet meat sandwich! The fries were extra crispy, which I typically order. Others had the chicken strips and fries and the turkey sandwich with a side of matzo ball soup and the chicken salad sandwich. Everything is fresh, homemade, and their process of ordering to getting your food is seamless. The best deli experience! Can't wait to have lunch again here.

Yelp
Came with my friend for our annual birthday celebration and we always get the pastrami. Everything tasted fresh and staff were friendly. It was a Saturday and plenty of parking and not as busy as I thought. Great dining experience.

Yelp
Hubby & I had dinner here tonight. We live in Chandler and don't normally drive to Phoenix for dinner. However, hubby saw it on TickTock and wanted to try it. Plus he picked it as his birthday dinner. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is very clean. I was disappointed because I was really looking forward to the turkey dinner. They were out of turkey when we got there. So I got the Mac n cheese and soup. Both were good. Hubby got the Ruben and loved it! He's already said he will go back anytime I want to go. I thought it was a bit pricey, but it's good quality food. We will definitely be going back.

Yelp
On this recent evening visit, the parking was adequate. Other times, like at lunch it has been difficult to find a place. If you exit from the lot, you can only go north. The floors are hard. The seating is comfortable. There is no music, no din. The food is served cafeteria style. You can dine ala fresco. The space for the line is wide enough to fit a wheel chair, as are the isles. The floors are clean everywhere. If you want to find some dirt, you are really going to have to look hard or bring your own. The menu is extensive. The online menu shows seven bread options and eleven side dishes. There are 65 menu items not including sides and soups. Not all items are available every day. Most main items run just under $20. They have a children's menu. Deserts are all under $10. It would serve you to pre-meditate your eating. Review the on line menu. Not all dishes are served every day. "The Straw" is made of Hot Pastrami, melted Swiss cheese and steamy sauerkraut. My choice of bread was rye. It could not have been better. The meat is lean and tender, and there was a load of Swiss on top.It comes with a side dish. They have coffee but not decaffeinated. Their carrot cake is very good, but it's a style that is more like ordinary cake. It was not as dense and soft as expected. The parking lot is too small for busy times, but the food the dizzying array delicious looking food will get you over that. There is seating inside and outside. The service is amiable. This is a really good place. You should try it.

Yelp
Nothing memorable about this place for me . Unfortunately my side of masked potatoes was the best part of my meal. I ordered a pastrami sandwich and it wasn't even edible . Cold meat with no flavor . I also tried the Matza ball soup . It was served with one huge maza ball and broth with again no flavor. My boyfriend's Ruben sand which was over 20 bucks and mediocre at best .

Yelp
Lots of meat, great tasting food, friendly service, modern interior, clean, a lil more pricey than I would like I got the New Yorker, Pastrami with Coleslaw and basically Mac Sauce? I also got mac and cheese. I asked what sides they have, basically it's everything you can see that is not meat and then they had like veggies and other stuff behind them. The Pastrami is the best pastrami I have ever had, wonderful flavor, tender, thin. I would go with just a pastrami sandwich in the future. Onion roll was big, thick, and soft. Keep the toothpick in to keep the sandwich together. I wish it was a lil cheaper than it is, but it's a great sandwich, probably the best I have had. The Mac and cheese is great, it's thick, creamy, and coats your mouth. The macaroni is thick and the perfect texture, not fall apart, not to hard to chew. My friends fries were fine, non salted, slighty crispy, nothing special, just fries.

Yelp
The turkado was good, but there are too many issues with cleanliness to go back anytime soon. The first guy with the bread choice has this dirty rag next to him that he uses to clean his area, but unfortunately, he never changes his gloves and keeps using the rag in between customers. None of the guys changed gloves on the line either. And the corned beef and pastrami are in warming bins, pre cut, just like the turkey. This is not a Jewish deli, just a pretender. Josh doesn't care.

Yelp
Long live Miracle Mile! This was the first food stop I wanted to make upon arriving to town. Once I got settled into my mom's place, I took her car and drove over to do a takeout order from here b/c my mom wasn't up to going out since she's dealing with health stuffs. It was nice to walk in to see no line but a well occupied dining area. I ordered my most favorite hot pastrami on marbled rye with my side choice of fries (I reheated them when I got back to mom's) and ordered a 1/2 a corned beef sandwich for her with coleslaw as her side and a cup of matzoh ball soup for her as well. I love coming here and seeing some familiar faces behind the counter and a couple of men whom I've seen for possibly 20+ years. Since the food here is mostly cafeteria style, this was a very quick take out order and I was so happy that they already had prefilled small deli mustard to go containers because that is the only condiment between me and my pastrami. When I got back to my mom's house, I put everything on placemats at the dining table and the soup in the fridge once it cooled so mom could have it the next day. Once I took my first bite of the sandwich, I closed my eyes and was back to being a little girl again. MM is a staple and they've been in my maternal family's life for generations- Great Grandparents, my grandparents, my mom, me and my daughter. My sandwich was everything I remembered and everything I wanted it to be. There was always an abundance of Jewish style delis in Phoenix compared to the East Bay or even the whole Bay Area and I truly feel the joy eating food from here even now at 52. So much has changed in Phoenix but for a few long time staples like MM, Durant's and La Piñata (the first and last being in different physical locations). I know there are more, but I'm talking midtown and I always feel like I'm back home with MM in my life. We will likely go again before I leave town, and I truly hope that this institution continues to live long and prosper .

Yelp
Really great Jewish deli, the service is excellent and the food is amazing. It's a cafeteria style serving. The facility is very clean and well maintained. I had a hot pastrami sandwich on rye with sauerkraut and thousand island dressing. They don't scrimp on the portions here. I had a heaping pile of hot pastrami on my sandwich it was simply amazing. The prices are extremely reasonable considering the portions. This is great deli I can't wait come back try some of there other iconic sandwiches on the menu
google avatar

Kris L.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches and lively atmosphere just like you are in New York make this a must try. Hubby had the Reuben with fries and I had a turkey straw with sauerkraut and Swiss sans bread, sadly they do not offer gluten free bread. I loved the carrot salad and that they offer healthy grilled veggies as a side. Desserts look crazy huge but we didn't try them.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
I've been craving a solid deli sandwich lately, and had never been here before, so today, I decided to stop in for a sandwich. It was a good choice! I ordered the Rueben with fries and had water to drink. Just over $20.00. How was it? Rueben- This thing was delicious! Tons of corned beef, sauerkraut, couple slices of cheese, and some Russian dressing piled on some rye bread. It had a tad too much Russian dressing on it though, and the rye bread was a tad thin and falling apart near the end of my sandwich. Even with those issues, the positives outweighed the negatives. The corned beef was sliced thin, and was easy to chew through. The sauerkraut gave it some zing and the cheese gave it some firmness. Overall, solid sandwich! Will just get it with light dressing next time. Fries- Crispy and tasty enough, but absolutely no salt on them. Their other sides looked pretty tasty, might switch it up next time and try some mac and cheese or some baked beans or something. Service was very friendly and they do a brisk business! Place was packed on a Friday for lunch. I will definitely come back and try some of their other sandwiches in the future. Happy to know this place is here, and I'll return when a particular sandwich craving hits.

Harvey K.

Yelp
The food was nostalgic. I ate a Reuben and the corned beef was tender, the rye bread fresh and the sauerkraut crispy. The ladies split a delicious stuffed cabbage. Going through the line was quick and the place is clean. Highly recommended for a real deli!

Frank R.

Yelp
Food was excellent, I had a pastrami sandwich on rye bread with Swiss cheese & French fries , a little on the pricey side, but quality cost money, I get it . Service was on point, everyone will to help u. Ambience was great , I must stop if you're in the neighborhood
google avatar

Steve F.

Yelp
Seen this in the local morning show, so of course we had to check it out. I had the how pastrami on a Kaiser Roll, added some deli mustard and it was pretty tasty. Swiss cheers would have been a good addition as well.
google avatar

C J.

Yelp
Why is that rude guy still up front? I didn't buy anything this time. I stopped in 14 months after my last review, only to find the same sourpuss guy was still the first person you encounter on the serving line. I was very surprised since when I commented on his rudeness over a year ago, another employee commented they had been having problems with him. So they were aware of his rudeness, yet he is still in a customer service role. I decided to go elsewhere (plus the pastrami looked like it had been sitting there a while) and once again, I won't be back any time soon. I wonder how many customers this guy has cost their business. Oh well, not my problem!
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
Visited her for lunch today, we each got a Big Dipper, there was a long line but it moves fast. The sandwich was huge the meat was tender the au jus was flavorful and not greasy, the fries were hot and crispy, I also got a side of the steamed veggies and they were cooked perfectly. Nothing was overly salty which is common at deli counter restaurants. Our total was $46 for 2 sandwiches and the extra side. Definitely enough food for me to get a 2nd meal .
google avatar

Marla R.

Yelp
Miracle Mile does not disappoint. I used to come here from Tucson when it was at the Christown Mall, after shopping at the Dillard's outlet. Now that I live here I go a few times a year. The men on the cafeteria line have not changed in all of these 20-30 years. And they are always smiling and seemingly happy to be serving up great deli sandwiches and other foods. And they get the food out really fast. Today I got the brisket sandwich with fries. Fries were hot and crispy and my sandwich was filled with tender beef. I was only able to eat a bit there because I was running short on time. In the car, the fries got soggy, but they were strangely still delicious. And I will finish my sandwich for at least one other meal. $22 for a sandwich, side and drink is more than I usually spend for lunch. But the portion size and great food makes it worthwhile.
google avatar

Bob Z.

Yelp
Great food had a pastrami sandwich and my wife had the matzoh ball soup with the tuna melt, and it tasted great. Made us feel like we were right there in Chicago on the miracle Mile.
google avatar

Martha C.

Yelp
What a delightful place to have a wonderful lunch. Cafeteria style where they serve you hot warm dishes and sandwiches. I had hot cabbage roll mashed potatoes and marble bread. Servers are friendly. Plenty of seating.
google avatar

Olivia R.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting. I came during my lunch hour and came with a hungry belly! Huge sandwiches and many to chose from. Their latkes were fantastic. The apple sauce that came with the latkes was so good ! My favorite combo. My patty melt was very delicious, I ate the whole sandwich. They had many sides to choose from. The matzoh ball soup was good but I've had better. Overall, great lunch spot!
google avatar

Yvonne G.

Yelp
Close to NY style meats but not exactly. Fresh and moist corned beef and pastrami. I went there for Knish and they didn't have any. Take it off the menu then. Had matzoh ball soup - nothing to write home about. The corned beef sandwich on brioche was good. Nice portion. Fries were crispy. It's a long way from home. Would not make the trip again.

Fred L.

Yelp
We ordered and got the thanksgiving family feast this past November 2024. It was way overpriced for processed turykey, instant mashed potatoes and uncooked apples in the apple pie. Back in 2023 it was a good meal. This year it was terrible and expensive $266.07!!!!
google avatar

Diana B.

Yelp
The best family owned. George the dad,Jill the mom & Josh the son are great, as well as Tomas & all the staff. They loved my mom & dad. They serve the fresh food in front of you & cut all meets in front of you. Been around 75 yrs. We have been going 34 years.

Yelp
Always our go to lunch spoke when we travel north to Phoenix. Thanks Josh.Next time we come during the week.

Yelp
Although it is famous for corned beef or pastrami sandwiches, I chose turkey this time. Wasn't quite holiday turkey not quite lunch meat. Bread fell apart so hard to eat. Maybe it was a busy time.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
A Phoenix staple that I have been going to since childhood when it was at Park Central. They have the best and leanest pastrami I have had anywhere. Including famous New York delis. The service is lightning fast even during the lunch rush. If you want the best pastrami sandwich in Phoenix this is your place
google avatar

Jody B.

Yelp
The very best Delicatessen in Az! Be sure to get the Pastrami or the New Yorker sandwich! Pastrami piled high with Cole slaw on Marbled rye! A taste treat!!
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
Pretty good food here. They're very pricey, it definitely worth coming here as a treat every so often. I got the New Yorker which is loaded with hot pastrami and has a special sauce (I think it's thousand island?) and cole slaw. Great flavors! You can choose from a ton of sides, but I went with the fries. Pretty tasty with just the right amount of crisp. Overall, I paid about $25 for the sandwich and fries. I still like Chompie's New Yorker a little more due to it being a little bigger and tastier, but these guys are a close second.
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
What a glorious day! I've been a huge fan of Miracle Mile for years (going back to the Park Central location in the 80's!). I moved away and didn't know about this location, so I was delighted when I discovered it. The aroma of pastrami and onion rolls were heavenly! They have an expanded menu, offering burgers, fish, stews, soups and salads in addition to their famous sandwiches. I had the Combo pastrami and corned beef on onion roll. And a side of potato pancakes. Heaven! My companions had the Rueben and New Yorker. So darn good. Service was quick and everything was so fresh. It was a good meal and a great day!
google avatar

Shelly Y.

Yelp
Came for lunch yesterday, wow! True NY deli here in Phoenix with awesome food. Place was busy but worth the wait. My corned beef was perfect, perfect, perfect! Right brain had the Big city chopped salad, large portions and yummy. Very satisfying and they have Matzoh ball soup that was so good on a chilly Phoenix afternoon. Ambience is cool deli, service good. Definitely coming back to explore more of the menu. We're here for the month, lotsa time!

Yelp
It was a balmy 104o and we noticed the waiting crowd just before the 11 am opening. We suddenly decided that was where we needed to go for lunch. We were definitely not disappointed. Coming from the east coast, we long gave up expecting "real" pastrami in Az, so imagine our delight when the staff was piling sandwiches with the real stuff (not the compressed imitation.) My sandwich overflowed (I'd order a half next time) and the accompanying potato salad was great. Hubby had the coleslaw and we had a hard time deciding which (if either) was better. My sandwich brought back a lot of memories and I could only eat half. I snacked on the other part later and then didn't eat dinner. This place has easy, ample parking, was immaculate inside and the ordering/serving line was like a well-oiled machine. I guess I would describe the décor as practical/utilitarian--nothing fancy or memorable--but I was there for the food. I certainly got my East Coast fix. Loved it!
google avatar

Shiloh M.

Yelp
This is how all restaurants should be! The service was excellent, with our needs being anticipated. Someone helped us carry our extra tray, asked if we needed refills, and even brought our toddler a toy and a cookie when he started crying. The place is clean. It felt like one of the cleanest restaurants I've been in in a while. And the food is great! Fresh and delicious. Sandwiches are huge. Prices are a little on the high side, but everything is so good it seems okay. I will be back.
google avatar

Donna M.

Yelp
What's there to say about a Phoenix institution? This place has been around for years and never disappoints. The brisket sandwich is a favorite. Lately I've been obsessed with their BLT; the bacon is plentiful and crispy, as it should be. The chipotle mayo has a nice kick but isn't over the top spicy. I've also enjoyed the Straw and the Reuben. Everything is fantastic here!
google avatar

Keith M.

Yelp
It's funny reading some of the reviews with people complaining about the service being too fast and the food being pre-prepared. Yeah, pastrami is made in advance after being brined and slow cooked for hours... They have a very efficient cafeteria style set up that gets your food quickly and accurately. I mean, they're making it right in front of you, so if there's any issue, you could deal with it immediately. I get the "Straw" every time. Always an excellent sandwich. My onion roll was soft and fresh and the pastrami was piled tall. Not New York City tall, but tall enough. The mac & cheese was very good, but not great. I'm not a fan of the velveeda-ish cheese, but kids are bound to love it. Overall, it's a great place. I've been here many times over. The years. If anybody knows of a place better than this in the valley, I'd be anxious to hear about it! For the people complaining about the price here, cut yourself a coupon and go to Subway.
google avatar

Amy B.

Yelp
I haven't been here for quite some time (since their old location) but my husband and I went the other night for their $7.50 1/2 sandwich and a side special. It did not disappoint! The biggest portions and tasty food. So many sides to choose from makes it difficult. We each ordered The Straw. So much meat and sauerkraut!!! Very friendly service. Gonna go once more before their special ends.

Patty L.

Yelp
This is the best deli I have found since the late 60's in Cali. Opens at 11 am and the line is continuous, people keep coming in, it's that good. Service is FAST.

Steve K.

Yelp
I enjoyed my pastrami but it ain't NY or Chicago. Cafeteria style loses something. The quality is good, but there is something to be said about fresh from a slicer. Cole slaw and potato salad were ok. Nice place nice servers behind counter. Actually Chompies is better.
google avatar

Yelp
The best deli in Arizona sandwiches are huge the corned beef and pastrami yum yum and yum

Yelp
There was a fly in my salad that I got to go and the cashier was very rude when I asked for a refill

Yelp
Excellent service, great food, and speedy delivery and service. I enjoyed the hearty portions and the atmosphere at this place. It reminded me of a delicatessen from the east coast.

Yelp
They're a little pricey but the food is usually pretty good. Except the most recent left much to be desired. I got the patty melt and the bread was weird and hard like oven toast on one side. I was expecting buttery pan-grilled goodness but it was not.

Yelp
Solid 4 star! 1st time, but I was craving a hit pastrami sandwich and I've quite a few positive comments on this place. Stopped by around 1:30 on a Thursday and walked right in - no wait. I was locked in on a Hot pastrami but this place didn't make it easy on me; there were several variations of hot pastrami sandwiches. I decided to go with the New Yorker - hot pastrami (a good amount), Cole slaw and Miricle Mile sauce and you get a sudevwith it and I stuck with French fries. The sandwich was really good, but the cole slaw and sauce over whelmed the pastrami. Next time (and there will be a next time), I'm just sticking with a Hot pastrami on an onion role. It's almost cafeteria style so once you get through the food line and pay then you just grab a table. They had a good crowd but there were plenty of tables.
