Does a Cruise That Goes Nowhere Help the COVID-Weary Traveler? - Eater

"The cocktail menu at Mixt, the cocktail bar, was the same as the one at Bubbles, the Champagne bar, and, I eventually learned, the same as the one at every other bar and restaurant I went to on the ship." - Andrew Genung

Mixt Review - Cow Hollow - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This place sounds as much like a startup as it does somewhere you’d go for lunch. However, we can’t complain because the salads, proteins, and vegetable side dishes here are generally excellent and priced well compared to the other healthy neighborhood options. On a nice day, they open up the side windows and it’s a very pleasant place for a quick, healthy meal. And they have cookies, so you’re not really losing out." - Taylor Abrams

Google
Great food with a lot of options. I was a little overwhelmed at first when I walked in, but the gentleman at the counter was able to walk me through everything. I made my own bowl and it was super fresh and tasty. I appreciate the overall quality of the ingredients. This will be my go to for healthy lunches when I forget to pack food for work.

Google
MIXT has some of the best salads on the market with a variety of organic lettuces used and a breadth of protein and vegetable add-ins. They offer chef-developed salads as part of the standard menu and for seasonal specialties ... (bring back the Spicy Brussels and make it permanent!), or you can make your own. Servings are generous for one, but worth the price. I'm a fan and wish there was a location in the south suburbs so it wasn't just a work-week option for me

This was my first experience here. The salad and taco bowl was decent. The Agua Frescas were muy delicioso!

For some reason, I wasn’t able to order ahead online once I entered my ZIP Code, so I went ahead and came directly to the restaurant knowing I wanted the elote salad, which is a seasonal salad that cost $15 i believe bc it is served a generous portion. It is very flavorful I’m not a fan of cold chicken but was a pleasant visit.

I was greeted upon entering the restaurant. The restaurant has an open kitchen, so you can watch as they prepare your order. I ordered the Mediterranean bowl which was amazing and topped with grilled chicken and a incredible dressing. Service was quick and efficient.

Google
A fabulous salad joint with an incredible selection of specialty items to make your salad even more delicious. This place does salads the way I would want them with roasted veggies, crispy toppings, and diverse grains. By the way, all the vegetables are organic and they promote local agriculture with a strong focus on sustainability.

Google
Got the orchard salad - not the best in the world but it was pretty tasty. I had been fasting for 8 hours so I was super hungry, plan to go back and try something else to update my review for a potential 5⭐️. Parking underground with validation. Carrot turmeric lemonade was good too.

Work in the area and eat here for lunch 2-3 times per week. Always able to get through a busy line and gray door. Great spot for something healthy and quick

Yelp
I ordered a tofu sandwich. It was the worst sandwich I have ever head. Cold, soggy and wet! The bread was soaking wet. How is this a sandwich?! Crispy cauliflower was anything but crispy. It seemed like everything was prepared the night before and was being served under the name of fresh ingredients and fresh food. Very disappointed in the quality of food!

Yelp
Their Asian chicken salad is packed with flavor. The mix of greens, crispy wontons, and grilled chicken is tossed in a sesame ginger dressing that's so addictive. It's a great balance of crunch and freshness.

Yelp
2nd time trying Mixt. Just as disappointing as the 1st. Picked up a to-go order. Bland EVERYTHING. Barely any dried out bland chicken in the bowl. Hard, crunchy "roasted" potatoes. The "carmelized" onions were one step from raw. The lime crema was watery. The side of bread was a hard and old piece of sourdough. Huge waste of money. This has to be a training issue because there is no way any food place would serve this on purpose. Or they are going out of business and just don't care. If I ate this at the location, I'd seriously be asking for a refund and go somewhere else. Definitely won't be back. Edited to add: My son opened his salad and had a nice visitor sitting right on top. See pic. Seriously Mixt.

Yelp
There was a green stink bug in my salad. I absolutely HATE bugs, and the last place I want them is in my food. I dish I had taken a picture but I literally scooted away from my salad so fast and forgot. My partner lost her appetite as well. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Delicious salad, had it delivered to work. Very nice combination of tastes (ordered the Cobb Salad) and would be happy to try more!

Yelp
Dumbass Customer Service. Charged me for delivery fee for no reason . Thats why chipotle is better

Yelp
I found Mixt on yelp and it was pretty disappointing. I came around 1230 on a Wednesday earlier today, and there weren't many people ordering. While there were a decent amount of takeout and delivery orders being processed, I was shocked by how messy the salad bar was. The lady making my salad also used her gloves directly in many of the bowls of each ingredient. Yes there were gloves. But no... hell no do I know where those gloves had been. ICK. I should have walked out right there. I got a vegan salad, and the chick peas were pretty undercooked; hence my tummy ache post. Lastly, I did see a little bug crawling out of my salad when I first opened it, but I kind of chalked it up to having been flying around, and I was HUNGRY. Totally not worth it and I will not be visiting again.

Yelp
This is my favorite go-to place if I'm getting dinner for myself, because: 1. Love the fried cauliflower. It is so tasty and tender and I know it's not healthy anymore but it's just so good. I like it better than any of the protein options, and I always get a side of this. 2. They didn't have it on my recent visit but I always get the fried chicken. It is delicious, tender, and the batter is just right. It is MUCH better than the grilled chicken. 3. Great variety of veggies for you to mix and match, to make your perfect salad. 4. The sauces are great, my fave is the cilantro jalepeno. 5. The Heath cookie is wonderful.

Yelp
My first visit to MIXT was prior to the 'Covid-19 Stay-At-Home' orders and I am very impressed with them. MIXT is a California based chain that serves healthy food and they do it relatively quickly. In addition to salads, they also serve plates (protein and 2 sides), grain bowls and sandwiches. With all these options they have mostly everyone covered when it comes to a choice of entrée. When it comes to their salads and grain bowls, there is an option to build your own in the you do not want one of their signature items on the menu you. Upon entering I was immediately greeted and impressed with how clean and organized everything was. From there I grabbed a menu and began to look at the many options available. Since it was my initial visit, I decided I would go with a signature item which ended up being a salad aptly named 'Bachelor'. When I placed my order, I was informed it would take ~10 minutes as they to cook the flat iron steak that was included in the salad. I was also given the option to swap for a different protein but I decided to wait on the steak. As the steak was cooking, I continued down the line; ordered a drink and found a table to sit at. Within what seemed to be quicker than 10 minutes my salad was delivered to my table. At first I was not certain I would be able to eat the entire salad and would have leftovers but that quickly changed after the first bite. I knew immediately I had made the right decision in waiting for the steak and was pleased with how well all the ingredients blended and the balsamic vinaigrette makes for the perfect dressing. Needless to say, that salad did not stand a chance when it comes to leftovers. Keeping with the healthy choices them, the beverage selection includes unsweetened organic teas, lemonades and kombucha. I chose the 'cranberry lavender lemonade' which was refreshing and tasty. Unfortunately, the parking is limited to paid choices which are a nearby garage or valet parking ($5).; both serve multiple restaurants in the area. MIXT does validate for the garage parking so remember to bring the ticket with you. Despite the parking situation; I look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Yelp
This place is located in the midst of an office building and several other eating establishments. You can valet, park on the street, or I believe there might be a parking garage available. Everything in this area looks new and classy! I think this place is great if you work in the area. It's perfect to stop by and grab a quick, fresh lunch. I ordered the bachelor salad ($14). It comes with steak, potato, blue cheese, caramelized onions, breadcrumbs, veggies, etc., it's on a bed of spring mix. Yum. It was a good size and filled me up. My husband got a bowl ($10). His came with quinoa, cabbage, mango, chicken, veggies, seeds, etc. The bowls are HUGE! It weighed like 2 lbs! If I had ordered that, I could have eaten on it for like 3-4 meals! He ate about half and was stuffed! Overall, I like the healthy, fresh concept, and our food was good. It was nothing super special, but it was good. I do think the prices are pretty steep. If you're working in that area, you might not mind spending that much for a salad. Its a little too expensive for me for salads. The bowl was decently priced. I wouldn't be opposed to coming back, perhaps if I had a coupon!

Yelp
This is a great salad bar in Uptown Dallas! They have lots of menu options of salads, grain bowls, and sandwiches. I chose to "create your own salad," where they have almost an overwhelmingly amount of options! The food here is super fresh, and they have all kinds of food to choose from like purple barley, roasted brussel sprouts, golden beets, etc. They even have avocado at no extra charge (that's a winner in my book). The size is definitely large; I ate 2 hefty meals from just this one salad. Personally, I think it's worth the price, especially for Uptown, since the portions are so big. If you check in on Yelp, you can get a lemonade for free! The lemonade is pretty good, but a little too sweet for my taste. You can also order online, which makes it super quick if you want to just drop by and pick up your order without waiting in line. The parking is incredibly convenient, as they validate parking in the adjacent garage. If I were in the area, I would stop by for a quick bite. It's also nice to have some food leftover for another meal for later! Definitely a great option for a healthy lunch uptown!

Yelp
My first time and I'll definitely be back. First off, I walked in and was greeted with such pleasure. I ordered a grain bowl to go consisting of quinoa, kale, cabbage, pumpkin seeds, roasted brussels, cranberries and lentils. Huge! So I definitely feel like I got my $8 worth. My only complaint is that I wish it had more greens. It seems like there are more toppings than anything. Also, they currently have a free tea (unsweetened) or lemonade with a purchase and checkin. I got the raspberry lemonade and it's the best lemonade I've ever had
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
Really awesome salad bar! There are menu options you can choose from, as well as "create your own salad" from scratch. They give you a LOT of food for a good price. The salad was very fresh and filling. The lemonade was freshly squeezed and delicious as well! The service was also good. There's a parking garage below the building with ample space.

Yelp
A mixt bag- I ordered the falafel salad and it was weird and not great. The falafal was crumbly dry sand with not much flavor, the marinated tofu didn't seem to be marinated and the lemon tahini dressing was really strange. My colleagues liked the Peachy salad and other order, so the error was on my part. I will say the lettuce was fresh and plentiful on my salad, the garbanzo beans were strangely small. We got it via grub hub delivered to the convention center (actually the Omni hotel)
google avatar

Trinidad L.

Yelp
All these ingredients and the salad still tasted bland. We ordered the Orchid and Bachelor salads with balsamic dressing and both of us were disappointed. In addition, slice of bread that was given with the salads was stale. Very stale!
google avatar

Brittney T.

Yelp
I went to Mixt on my lunch break and it was super clean and surprisingly no crowd. Since it was my first time I was kind of confused on how it worked but basically you can get one of their pre-organized salads/wraps and what not or build your own. I decided to build my own. That comes with 5 toppings and the protein is extra. I figured all of this out at the registered when she told me the cost of the salad. Don't get me wrong, the salad was good. However, I would prefer a cheaper option with unlimited toppings and the protein included like Salata. The price is really what's giving it 4 stars but it was definitely tasty. I would go back.. just on someone else's dime.

Yelp
I'm back!! I used to be able to get this salad in the Bay Area EVERY WORK DAY. OMG have I missed this place when I left that company and moved to the NYC area which apparently despises a legitimately good salad. Good luck finding that in the city. But when I moved to Dallas a few months ago I saw there was a mixt greens downtown, but despite being only 6-7 miles from my house, delivery does not allow customizations. So not my salad! But I'm downtown for the week and it's like a warm blanket (only the cold crisp salad kind) of nostalgia and delicious flavor has been wrapped around me. I may have to buy another one immediately!!

Yelp
Right away, I'll state that I'm not a salad guy, but I was drawn here by a special offer for Yelp Elite members, and after a nice meal, I'll consider myself pleasantly surprised! My girlfriend and I came here for lunch on an otherwise cold, rainy, dreary day, and since I got there first, I had already identified what I wanted: The Bachelor, featuring the signature "mixt greens", arugula, grilled flat iron steak, blue cheese, herb roasted potatoes, cherry tomatoes, savory herbs, balsamic vinaigrette, topped with caramelized onions and breadcrumbs. I omitted tomatoes and added avocado and bacon; the additions were definitely a good call. Additionally, I couldn't resist getting a side of the parmesan cauliflower mash with minced chives, and our second salad was a standard Cobb. My salad was definitely notable in size, and looked very fresh. The avocados are presliced and packed behind the counter, and opened and applied as ordered to keep them very fresh. The greens were very fresh, and the vinaigrette was a great balance of flavors which accented the other ingredients. The roasted potatoes were an interesting addition to a salad, and were cut small, well seasoned and tasty. But the most remarkable thing about this salad were the meats, in my case, flat iron steak and bacon. Time and time again, restaurants will provide nice, artisan salads which are great until you start adding meat. The meats are often afterthoughts, and have little flavor, texture, seasoning, etc. The flatiron steak and bacon in this salad were absolutely stars. Both were well seasoned, and the former was tender and had a great beefy flavor and texture; the latter was cut thick and, while not as tender, was packed with great, applewood smoked flavor. I'd love to have had some of it on a plate! Together, they made an already good mix of ingredients really great. Less impressive was the cauliflower mash; it looked appealing enough, but it was a little too thin for our tastes. Flavorwise, you'd never forget that it was cauliflower, but the cheese flavor did come through and it was a decent side. Adding a good dose of fresh cracked pepper woke it up a little, but still, I wish it hadn't been quite as moist. I will say that they did solve a frequent issue with this dish, that of it not being pureed enough. It was completely smooth, no perceptible "bits" (this is a good thing for me). All in all, this was a good meal that we both enjoyed, and I'd recommend this place to anyone who likes fresh salads, but I'll also point out that they have more than just salads. Further, they put a big focus on sustainability and reducing waste by using compostable or recyclable/reusable items when possible (for example, water is available by means of reusable aluminum cups as a self service option). Check them out!

Yelp
Got my salad to go and when I got home I discovered a golf ball sized mass of what appears to be a conglomerate of rotten lettuce. For a $15 salad I would like to actually be able to eat it.
google avatar

Yelp
I have never before in my entire life had a salad that was as fresh as the one I had here! After seeing pictures online, I had to try this place! I'm one for a good, hefty salad, and this place looked like it would hit the spot! I easily obtained parking under the restaurant and brought my ticket that was later validated. That's enough for a 5-star review in my book (I'm not one for city driving)! They have a myriad of veggies and meats to chose from while also providing basic options, of which I picked a Chicken Cobb Salad. The associate who took my order looked very busy working the lunch rush but perfectly created my meal. After signing up for their email membership, I received a free lemonade as well! Like I said, everything tasted so fresh! The chicken was cooked perfectly, the lettuce was nice and plump, and all of the other veggies were juicy and scrumptious! The salad dressing was perfectly applied and everything was so enjoyable! My lemonade was most excellent and a must have for your lunch break! Overall, Dallas is blessed to have this restaurant within its limits! Make your way over there now and enjoy farm-fresh flavors!

Yelp
YUM! I have been ordering MIXT lunch salads for several days now and love that goat cheese is an offering.. so many places don't have this! The flavors are just fantastic and it is a good deal relative to competitors.

Yelp
I came in on a Friday afternoon for lunch. I got the Caesar salad with Kale instead of Romaine Lettuce. This salad has a great recipe. I appreciate the amount of ingredients in this salad. You can really get your macros in with quality produce. Donté made my salad and he was very kind. I checked in on Yelp and got a complimentary lemonade.

Yelp
First had MIXT in San Francisco and SO HAPPY there's one in Dallas! The service was great! The restaurant was also super clean!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Orchard salad, it's my go to!

Yelp
First time at Mixt and it was DELICIOUS! Atmosphere- clean, refreshing and eco friendly (paper straws) Service- Fast, staff were welcoming and constantly wiping, cleaning, and refilling with fresh veggies and ingredients. Food- I got the GINORMOUS Elote Salad. For $13.99, I get two meals out of it. Tip: Ask for dressing on the side and save for a later snack. Ingredients were fresh, salad was made in front of me. Fresh and crispy! Husband got the Rooster Sandwich. Also, delicious, fresh and the pesto was green, fresh and super tasty! Had a sample of the cauli mash, also super tasty, texture and appeal was just like mashed potatoes. Drinks- watermelon lemonade is refreshing. Regular lemonade and sweet and tart, also refreshing w this weather Come try this place out! Great for lunch and they have some great dinner options like cauli mash and steak!

Yelp
Health-conscious shop offering fresh downtown in a locale that is more used to barbeque and fast food burgers... great effort, but it didn't really make a strong impression on me. \\ Orchard salad - transitioning Texans to having fruit (apples) in salad - but also still plenty of salty processed meat in the salad, too - overall tasty components but it didn't really come together as more than a sum of its parts for me - the vinaigrette was tart but sweet more than fresh; ask for it on the side so you can control how much Also got a free lemonade from my check-in on yelp, which was tasty though a little sweet. I didn't get to clarify, but I hope it's juiced like at Lemonade and not a concoction of syrups. It was a huge portion which might justify the price... but would it still meet the healthy rap that salads have, then?
google avatar

Renita T.

Yelp
So much potential but such a disappointment. I went in around 8pm at night and the staff was SLOW. Like literally two other people in the place and 5 staff and yet I was still waiting for someone to check me out?! One of the staff seemed a bit high and my friend agreed. I got the warm plate with the chicken + miso glaze, the heirloom tomatoes and the mashed cauliflower. Decent portion sizes but over half the chicken was the skin and rubbery skin at that! For $15.95 I was super annoyed. My friend also loved that her elote salad didn't even have corn in it... she didn't trust the staff enough to have them remake it. Basically this place is overpriced, and the food is not good enough. Save your money and go next door to roti grill which is much faster, has better food, and is much cheaper!!
google avatar

Yelp
Rave reviews for this salad and bowl "fast food" restaurant. Everything is healthy (superfood alert!) and delicious. This is how I dream of packing my lunch or eating every meal - except I never pack a lunch or have a lot of time to cook during the week. Especially not the fancy ones that are hard to prepare like quinoa, Brussels sprouts and finely shredded cabbage OR incredible unique vinaigrettes. You can quickly order food off their website as well - I usually have working lunch meetings so I order it during a conference call and run to pick it up and run back to my next meeting. It is easy. Plus the cost is competitive at $11.95 and very filling. AND... their packaging is sustainable. Im a packaging designer and I notice all the careful details they pulled together to make this possible. Rather than bore you with the details of how hard it probably was for them to accomplish this on a corporate level and how much time and money they had to put behind this mission.... I will just say, trust me, this company cares about the environment and it shows... beautifully.
google avatar

Lizzie G.

Yelp
I think that for the price (~$15 after tax) the amount of salad you get is pretty small... that's the only reason I'm deducting a star... it is great quality and the ingredients are fresh, I just feel like they have put themselves at a higher price point than they should have. I can go to another salad place I love down the street that has a lot larger salads with more toppings for about $2-3 less. Staff seemed friendly, store was clean, location is walkable but not great parking (they might have garage validation but you'd have to ask the business about that as I walked)... I'll be back to try more because it's right next to my favorite Starbucks Reserve!
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
I wouldn't normally post a review for a drink but WOW. Such a refreshing and fresh drink. Super delicious and reasonably priced. The strawberry was overwhelmingly amazing.
google avatar

Betty W.

Yelp
I stumbled upon my favorite San Francisco salad place in Dallas! What a lucky day. I am so impressed that the Puebla I get on Valencia St. tasted exactly the same... well done Mixt!
google avatar

Clayton O.

Yelp
Worst experience of all times. Ordered orchard salad, they literally didn't add one ingredient that comes with that salad. They only added the extras like a design your own. They got the dressing wrong. They charged me $30 for a single sale that wasn't big enough to share. What a freaking joke, I actually hate these people because that was theft. They also don't answer phones.
google avatar

Johnathan C.

Yelp
Finally tried this place today. I wish I had tried it sooner! I had the Harvest salad and honestly it was one of the tastiest salads I've ever had. I'm sad that it's only season. I'll be ordering this as often as I can!
google avatar

Allison F.

Yelp
Came to MIXT for the yelp event - I had never been here before and got the build your own salad. It was easy to do although 3 Ingredients I requested they didn't have which was odd (regular onions, garlic, corn) as these are common salad requests. The salad was delicious and a large portion but would I i come back and spend $11 on- probably not it is a little expensive in my opinion with drink and meat it is over $13. The green tea was super blah and nothing special.
google avatar

Ivy Sugar T.

Yelp
What a great lunch spot! If you work near uptown, walking would be recommended, otherwise there is a parking garage and valet options. The relaxing and decorated atmosphere is a great spot for a quick bite. I stopped by on a Wednesday and the line was almost out the door which was a good sign it was worth the wait. The line moved fairly quickly as there was a custom salad or plate option. I ordered a custom salad which entailed of your choice of greens, up to five toppings, protein, and your choice of dressing. The toppings all looked fresh and clean. I would definitely recommend the squash and pumpkin seeds as both added a great unique taste to my otherwise boring salad. As the new year approaches and everyone is being conscious of their calorie intake, this is a great healthy choice. Great customer service added with delicious healthy options is a winner in my book, definitely try your own Mixt salad and enjoy!
google avatar

Melanie G.

Yelp
These salad prices, though. Man, this place is connected to my office building and I was so excited to have a salad place to frequent, but the prices for these salads are way too high. Dallas has a plethora of salad options and nobody's prices for as high at Mixt. The ingredients are fresh, don't get me wrong...but I'm not sure it's worth it at that price point. Plus, the portion sizes are a lot smaller than the other popular salad joints. If you're balling and it's convenient for you, give this place a try.
google avatar

Paige P.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place. I got the herb roasted chicken breast with cauliflower mash and the heirloom salad. My chicken was 60% skin/fat and hardly any chicken. My cauliflower mash was ice cold and my heirloom salad was so salty I couldn't eat more than two bites. I was extremely disappointed after paying $15 for a healthy meal.

Jay P.

Yelp
I love this place. I eat here at least twice a week. Their food is really fresh and super healthy with low carbs. I enjoy their falafel salad the most. The tahini dressing is to die for.
google avatar

Benjamin N.

Yelp
Only in Uptown would office people be foolish enough to shell out $15+ for a simple salad. I went when they first opened and while a fine concept, there was nothing special about the product that warranted the cost. I'm sure the location is expensive, but with so many better places to eat in the area, I don't see this as a repeat for me.

Anuradha M.

Yelp
Loved the salad and great staff! You have a variety of items, fresh ingredients. You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! Really awesome arugula salad! Fresh leaves and ingredients. I'm normally skeptical about salad joints but this place is a must try. Loved the falafel-like croutons!
google avatar

Yelp
Great service and food! This is my first time here and was lost but the salad maker Dontae was so patient and helpful. We literally tried almost all the salad dressing just to find the right one for me. He took his time and focused on me and my needs of making a salad. This is the type of service I love when it comes to food I'm buying. I am not salad person but I have to say eating here was great! Not only do they have salads there grain bowls and healthy plate options. Great place, great service , and most of great people.
google avatar

Peyton S.

Yelp
Such a great spot for a fresh, healthy, and fast lunch! Dallas needed more places like this!!! The salads on the menu are creative and there's more than enough options. Or, you can build your own and get 5 toppings on it. I built my own salad with mixed greens, kale, some veggies, avocado and chicken with the lemon tahini dressing. My only suggestion would be to get light dressing (I got medium and it had a bit too much in my opinion). However the dressing was excellent!!! We also got the cowboy salad and it was very good as well. The Applewood smoked bacon is thick, salty, and a great addition to the salad. Highly recommend. I will definitely be back! Lastly, for parking be sure to validate your ticket if you park in the garage, as the parking is $25. Luckily they were nice enough to waive this for us since we forgot to validate and we were only there 20 minutes.

Yelp
I stumbled across this place in yelp and wow what a find! I had the cob salad with heavy dressing. Daphne gave me a sample of their Tuscan chicken and it was very tasty and rich and they make it there--there was a large pot of it cooking and i asked. As good as the salad was the black iced tea was maybe the best I've ever had. I often judge and pick a restaurant by their tea. And I'll be back. Also they validate parking.

Yelp
My husband and I took the kids to Klyde Warren park and I wanted to eat something healthy; so we thought we would give Mixt a try. I loved the mixt cobb salad and the water melon lemonade. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
This place is amazing! Salads are delicious, and SO many options to choose from. The pre-built salads are amazing, and there are tons of options if you want to create your own. I got the Beetnik, and absolutely loved it! The salad was huge, and Tiffany, Mariam, and Shane were so helpful, kind, and patient and let us make some changes. Conveniently located downtown! Will be back soon
