Moroccan fried chicken, shawarma & Israeli dishes on patio

"A favorite quick and affordable lunch-and-dinner option near the Culver City office, this spot pairs excellent cooking with a top-tier patio and a central location that’s easy to reach. Chef Danny Elmaleh — who opened his first location in Sherman Oaks, developed Cleo, and shaped dishes at Vicky’s All-Day — draws on a Moroccan father, Japanese mother, and an upbringing in Israel to inform the menu; he has also worked with CIM, the major real estate player in West Adams. The food is fun and shareable: chicken shawarma is shaved thin and seasoned with an aggressive spice mix of cumin and coriander, while beef and lamb kofta come in large nuggets, grilled over charcoal, and placed over softened onions and Anaheim chiles. Not quite traditional brunch fare, but a great weekend hang. — Matthew Kang, lead editor, Eater Southern California/Southwest" - Eater Staff
"“Another place I have trouble deciding [what to order]. Their rice is so tasty. Their lentil soup is really good. I love their salmon, kefta, and dark chicken. I just love everything. I had never spent a lot of time eating in West Adams, it’s really exciting there." - brant cox
"We owe Mizlala some credit for giving us plenty of delicious meals over the past few years, but also for single-handedly ruining all other methods for eating brussel sprouts after we tried theirs. Ridiculously good sprouts aside, their falafel is also a highlight: they’re big, soft on the inside, and feel very light with their creamy interior that’s bright green from its mix of fresh herbs. The falafel at this West Adams restaurant also acts as a good mediator between the other flavors of the plate, pairing well with the tangy sumac fries, nutty hummus, and those sweet, spicy, and crispy brussel sprouts that we keep mentioning." - sylvio martins
"With three locations across LA, Mizlala has grown a lot since it first opened in 2016—but one thing hasn’t changed: the excellent Israeli food. At their West Adams restaurant, you order at the counter, grab some pickled sides from the condiments bar, and take a seat on the patio. It’s the ideal place for a quick weeknight meal or a last-minute group dinner that won’t break the bank. The menu is small, but it’s hard to go wrong—you can order any of the main proteins in a pita, on a salad, or as a plate with rice, hummus, and veggies. We especially love their well-seasoned chicken shawarma, and the spiced kefta is a good bet, too." - nikko duren
"Not to be confused with the full-service, sit-down version in Sherman Oaks, Mizlala West Adams is ideal when your “lunch hour” is really more like 20 minutes. Despite a small-ish menu, there are a bunch of options here. You can order falafel, kefta (spiced lamb and beef patties), or chicken shewarma in a pita, on a salad, or as a platter with hummus and pickles. Our favorites are the kefta platter and the falafel pita, but no matter what you order, make sure you take advantage of the full-blown pickle station that’s off to the side of the open kitchen." - brant cox, brett keating
