Man, Mkt. has been on our bucketlist for quite some time now and looks like a pretty sweet place to grab a delicious meal. However, after checking out Mkt's for restaurant week, I left with a pretty sour taste in my mouth.
We made reservations for restaurant week and my wife and I were both excited. Upon being seated, we were told that our meal, due to restaurant week and their capacity, had to be shrunken from 2 hours to 1.5 hours. No biggie at all.
But after ordering our dishes, I'm not exaggerating, we waited 1 hour to get our first two appetizers. With two more appetizers, both of our entrees, and our dessert remaining.
The appetizers were plated beautifully, but at the end of the day, they seemed very copy-paste. The bruschetta and one of the salads comprised of burrata, basil, tomatoes, and balsamic vinegar. The cod and fritter dish were basically fried balls that lacked flavor.
So after waiting an additional 15 minutes, we were given our entrees: my wife got the seared scallops and I ordered lamb.
So after watching a lot of Hell's Kitchen, I was always wondering why Gordon Ramsay got mad and yelled that a dish was dying at the window.
I get it now. My lamb died at the window today. And I was so upset. It was so lukewarm and dry, and either 1. It was microwaved (which I kinda doubt), or 2. It sat on the counter for a long time. There wasn't any heat! There was barely any meat, and the lukewarm nature of the dish ruined my appetite to the point that I didn't want to eat it. The rice/risotto tasted weird and it was just an unpleasant dish that just made me mad.
The seared scallops were good.
The desserts were the best part! Tiramisu was great, and the panna cotta was delicious. But at this point, these desserts couldn't save this meal, and I was already upset and disappointed.
Ok, sure, it's the beginning of restaurant week and mkt. may just need to adjust things a bit. And they NEED to adjust, because the entire time, we were just waiting for our food and becoming hangrier by the minute, only to be served lukewarm and lackluster food. All for $65 a person. Jus thinking about it, being served a bony, sad, meatless lamb shank, plates of tomatoes and fried appetizers, and a (pretty great) tiramisu doesn't equate nearly to $65.
Sorry if this sounds mean, but I expected more. I'm still pretty disappointed with this experience, and I won't be coming back anytime soon or referring this place to our friends. 3 stars that's (barely) saved by great desserts.
