Popped in as i wanted some jellied eels. Whilst there i decided to try Pie and Mash, which was a first for me. The mash was exceptional - very smooth. Like wise the pie pastry was perfectly cooked. The liquor was very bland, and mince in the pie, was a hard lump in the middle - giving the impression that it was pre-cooked before putting it in the pastry.
I'm no expert, but as many people say it's the best pie and mash, all I can say, is it isn't for me.
As for the Jellied eels. The pot is relatively large, so you think you've got a reasonable portion. On opening it it is about 80% "Jelly" - I say jelly because it was more like clear rubber / silicone. There were only 7 pieces of eel approx 1cm thick, 2 of them thin tail pieces.Whilst the eel meat was very nice, the jelly was inedible and very tough. All this for just over £5, and the use by date was 2 days away, making me suspect that this wasn't too fresh.
I tried contacting Manzies Management, before posting this, and was promised a call back, and nothing was received.
