House coffee & beers plus pastries & plant-based fare are served in a funky, art-filled space.
"Just because you can get Modern Times in Walmart, doesn’t mean it’s not one of the best local breweries in LA. Their Downtown location has weekly pick-up and delivery of their excellent flagship beers like Orderville, Blazing World, and Fruitlands, as well as their limited-release specials. Keep an eye out whenever they have crowlers of their dessert stouts, like Modem Tones or Pharaoh Ascendant. Also, any of their hazy IPAs are highly worth your time. Weekly pick-up, delivery, and shipping within California - check their website for more information." - Brett Keating
"Speaking of breweries, you probably know that Modern Times’ Dankness Dojo is one of the best in LA County. But they also roast their own coffee, and it’s great - and also reasonably priced. Get it without ice." - Jess Basser Sanders, Brant Cox, Kat Hong, Marika Jayne, Brett Keating
"Despite a name that makes it sound like a USC freshman’s dorm room, Modern Times’ DTLA location serves consistently great beer. Although they’re based in San Diego, the unique tap lists read like a flagship location - they always have 15-20 special release beers on tap, like barrel-aged cider, and an imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels that tastes like blackberry cobbler. It’s a huge location that’s great for groups, and while the food is fine for snacking (get the House Fries), just note that the menu is entirely vegan. If you’re looking for a full meal, we’d go to Shibumi around the block beforehand." - Brant Cox, Brett Keating
"What It Is: A new brewery/restaurant/coffee shop in DTLA from Modern Times (the beer company) Perfect For: Craft Beer, Day Drinking If we could eliminate the word dankness from the English vocabulary, we would. But we can’t, so here we are with The Dankness Dojo, and at least this new downtown brewery/restaurant/all-day coffee shop from Modern Times (the beer company) is still great. The colorful space is big and open, filled with a low-key crowd all there to do one thing - drink really good beer. The plant-based/vegan food menu is, unfortunately, not very good, so we’d recommend eating elsewhere. Verdict: A cool space serving excellent craft beer. It’s going on the Bar Hit List." - Jess Basser Sanders, Brant Cox, Brett Keating
"Downtown’s Dankness Dojo by Modern Times probably has the highest stacked Beyond Burger on the map, with two patties of Beyond Meat, smoked mushrooms, shallot jam, roasted tomato spread, American cheese made of coconut, pickles, and pickled onion rings on a house made bun." - Mona Holmes
