Saraga Is the International Grocery Store of My Dreams | Bon Appétit

"Momo Ghar. Helmed by Phuntso Lama, a 49-year-old Tibetan woman who was born and raised in Nepal, Momo Ghar—which translates as “dumpling house”—has been a sensation ever since it opened. Lama estimates that she sells thousands of hand-made dumplings each day, from mouthwatering jhol momo—a chicken-filled dumpling drenched in a spicy tomato sauce called “jhol” that is made with heaps of garlic, dried red chile, and soybean seeds—to Tibetan-style dumplings stuffed with pork and chives." - ByZahir Janmohamed

Delicious Mongolian style dumplings. We tried the signature Momo and a chicken momo, liked both but preferred the one with the pork more. Great customer service, the lady out front even taught us how to properly eat Momo. You need to create a little hole on the dumpling, and then pour the soup in then eat it. Yum Reasonably priced. Great location, inside the North Market of Columbus downtown area. With parking garage close by. Highly recommend by @WineDinenVacay

This Little Gem was on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives! Most Yummiest Dumplings we've ever had! These are Nepalese! We had the Jhol Momo (Kathmandu Chicken), Tibet Momo (Tibetan Pork) & Chicken w Veggies Dumplings! Be sure to stop by here & get some! We'll Def be going back!

I came here in 2019 when location was inside Saraga international market. It was delicious back then—a real treat and experience, hard to find. The videos and pictures you see are from back then to give you an idea of what it used to be. *Now it’s only to-go containers. Awful for the environment. *Portions are half of what they used to be. *Flavor is zero of what it used to be. I don’t know how you can ruin something great. Why? I think everything is frozen and steamed on site. Bread is not the same as well. It was a special place. Kitchen was right in front and visible to those lucky diners that sat at the bar. From there it was special to see the food being prepared and served to you in bowls NOT plastic containers with a pre measured plastic container of broth. Terrible experience and food all around. Maybe the original owners sold it to someone capitalizing on the Bon Apetit article and Guy Fieri visit? I certainly hope that’s the case. Nothing makes sense. Either way stay away and don’t believe the hype. Waste of money and time. Perhaps one day one of the original owners will realize what a special place and food they had and bring back the quality and service of the old Mo Mo Ghar.

We got the jhol momo. Dumplings were very juicy. It was our first time coming to the North Market. The woman was very nice. I felt like the price was a little too much for 8 dumplings.

Google
I used to go to their location in Saratoga market, and they haven't skipped a beat. The momo are amazing especially the pork and chicken, and I would drink the jhole.

Never tried Nepalese/Himalayan good before so I knew I had to give it a go. The look like Chinese dumplings but are slightly bigger, almost like a small bao or ciao long bao. There's not a lot if choices and that's not a bag thing. I prefer specializing and playing to your strength than a restaurant going mile wide and inch deep. I wanted to try them all but gotta reserve room for other food so the combo was the choice, with pork and chicken. Both were great but the pork stood out more with a herbal flavor infused in it. The home made sauce went really well with it, a savory and hint of heat in it, I dunked my mom in them and could drink it as a soup all day. That's how good it was. Awesome find!

Google
I am a vegetarian and I was happy they had 2 different flavors momo I could try. I did not like the potato one, way too much cilantro for my personal taste but I did like the other veggie one. My partner really liked the pork ones he got. Overall pretty tasty and fun to try. I love walking around and trying new places in the North Market, however there are some spots I enjoy more than Momo Ghar. I do think it's worth trying though since they have many options and they're quite filling! Plus the people working there were very nice and fun to talk to while waiting for our food.

Yelp
Visiting Columbus, Ohio had a few friends recommend North market saw that this was on diners, drive-ins and dives and had to check it out. They were absolutely amazing the sauce that came with them were just as good! I will be back !!!

Yelp
I went here yesterday (04/29) after getting some oysters at Colo. I ordered the 1/2 and 1/2 of the jhol and veggie momos and they were both delicious and fresh. The order came with a tasty thin sauce/soup that I'm assuming is what comes with the jhol; it tasted like Sambar or Rassam (without the veggies) if you've tried South Indian food. For added spice they had a hot sauce on the side - gave it a nice kick. The service was friendly and quick, and the ambience in the North Market is always fun! Might sound like nitpicking: I did find the pricing to be a liitttlee bit on the higher side, and I wasn't a fan of paying a $1 extra to split two types ‍. Would I come back and recommend? Definitely! Overall it was a very good experience and if I'm craving momos, I'd certainly return.

Yelp
Went for lunch last Saturday at the North Market. I finally had the chance to try the dumplings they're so famous for!!! I really had no idea what to try, so I ordered 10 dumplings, 5 pork and 5 chicken with ginger and garlic. They were good, that's for sure, but not sure they were a 5-star thing. So, these are all made by hand. No small accomplishment, that's for sure. The dough had a great texture, the meat filling also had a great texture. Not too dense but not falling apart. I think my big issue was other than salt and garlic, there just wasn't any flavor. Now, I have never had Nepalese food before, so I can't say if these were great dumplings, good dumplings, bad dumplings, etc. I can only compare these to other Asian dumplings I've had in other restaurants I've visited in other parts of the county/world. I would say the chicken/ginger dumplings were preferable to the pork dumplings because the ginger added another dimension to them. I'm sure I'll try more things from Momo Ghar the next time I'm at the North Market. I'm thinking there are some real gems to be found at this place. I just need to dig a little deeper and maybe ask for some direction from the guy behind the counter. Oh, when you get your dumplings, be sure to ask for the hot sauce!!! Great addition!

Yelp
Fell in love with the hunger chicken momos ... after a friend of ours told me that I just go there while at the convention center in Columbus Ohio

Yelp
Friendly service and tasty dumplings! After 3 laps around the busy North Market I decided to try a half order of the Jhol Momo dumplings (chicken). They were very flavorful and come with a surprisingly spicy broth/sauce on the side. The employee working the counter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and Columbus in general.

Yelp
Every time I come to Columbus for work, I make sure to stop here! Their pork and chicken dumplings are so good and the sauce that they put on top of it I always order extra! The people who work here are also very nice! You will not regret these dumplings! Also try it with the hot sauce!

Yelp
I don't usually eat dumplings, but this place peeked my curiosity because they are the centerpiece of their menu. These "momos" as they are called come stuffed with either chicken, pork or vegetables. I got 5 with chicken and 5 with potatoes for variety, a decision I did not regret. The chicken filling was so juicy and well seasoned, and the potatoes were very fluffy. In addition to this broth that comes served with each order, you have the option to drizzle a little hot sauce on your dumplings. I didn't leave full off the 10 dumplings, but it was okay because I wanted to grab more food at market. Definitely a place to would go if you're looking for a light meal!

Yelp
Another visit, another 5* Momo. This time ginger chicken with veggies. I sat at the bar and talked to the Crew.

Yelp
They are located in the north market. It is an older building converted into a really neat market with mini options of food, spices, wines, and oil and vinegar. They were very quick. The food was very fresh and hot and I would have to say the best dumplings I have had. I highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
The dumpling orders come in 10 pieces. We ordered the #1 Curry chicken. Comes with a curry sauce. $12.50. Nice and chewy exterior, inside chicken with the curry dip is pretty good.

Yelp
I love anything dumpling related so I knew momo was on the list for must try items at North Market. I was sharing a few things with a friend so we could sample as much as possible and we may have gone a bit overboard. Momo Ghar was the first spot we went to and our eyes may have been bigger than our stomachs because we got a sampler with three different types of momo with 20 pieces or something like that. If you plan on getting other things to try, I would suggest getting a smaller portion than we did, but they were delicious. I would say the dough is a little thicker than a xiao long bao or soup dumpling if that is what you have for a reference. Definitely check them out if you're at North Market though.

Yelp
These were some of the best momos I have ever had! I got the mix of pork and chicken. The broth they are served with was fantastic!

Yelp
I flew in from Philly to try this popular place. I love momos more than anything, but this was such a huge disappointment. The momos were tasteless and the wrapping broke apart when served. I bought two orders of the chicken momos and threw half of it away.

Yelp
Went to North Market for this restaurant as it's a DDD spot. Got the momo sampler. It was delicious. This place is nestled in an amazing space of delicious restaurants and various foods and drinks to try.

Yelp
Tried this place in North Market in Columbus, OH. First of all, the marketplace is in a nice area. It's really cute inside with a diverse selection of food & dessert restaurants. There's plenty of seating upstairs. Unfortunately, they are building a hotel high rise so you have construction right next to the marketplace. I'm not sure if this has affected business as I was told a few restaurants in the building was no longer there. I went around 230-3pm, so there weren't too many people and some places were either closed already or closing early. I've never had Nepalese food before but I was told this place was good. These are dumplings. I got the mix momo (chicken w/vegetables & Potato). It came with their special sauce. It was a little spicy but not too bad (coming from someone who doesn't eat spicy foods). The dumplings were DELICIOUS! The flour wrap was just right. Wasn't too hard, floury, or too thin. Both dumplings were good but I have to say, the potato one won me over. Dipping it in the sauce was so good. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Very nice people & yummy dumpling that are different from more common styles like Japanese gyoza & Chinese varieties. I had never had MoMo dumplings before so I asked for a recommendation & went with the Tibetan pork variety. These are a thicker walled than a gyoza but very similar looking. They also are more fully packed with filling. I took my order to go & warmed them up briefly in a microwave later on. They were very good & the orange sauce included reminded me of a watered down Indian curry dipping sauce. I also bought a neat t shirt from the stall & had a brief talk with the proprietor about the dumplings & how she is working on her version of xiao Long bao. Stop & try some!
google avatar

Ines D.

Yelp
I love momo ghar! The momo sampler was the perfect menu item to split with a friend. The dumplings came in a variety; 5 chicken, 5 pork, & 5 chicken/ ginger. All of them were tasty on their own but once submerged in the spicy sauce ..... my taste buds were doing their little dancy dance. This is a great option for lunch at the north market, & the pricing is very fair. I'm looking forward to coming again and trying their vegetarian options!
google avatar

Marlena K.

Yelp
I hate to be the outlier to all these amazing reviews. I was sold when I saw a guy's picture signed that he has been there. I ordered the vegetarian dumplings and waited a while for my dumplings to come out which I didn't mind. When my dumplings came out, they were essentially all stuck together and the sauce was not flavorful. Service was really nice and the seating was good too. I just genuinely thought the vegetarian dumplings were lacking flavor and need a little love. Ambience is great maybe the regular non veggie dumplings are better! .

Yelp
We stopped by Short North Market during a festival weekend looking for something to eat after a friend had recommended that we check it out as first timers in Columbus. As we walked in the entrance, this was one of the first places that caught our eyes. PARKING: Good amount of street parking that wasn't too expensive (but then again, we're used to LA parking, so Columbus folks might have different thoughts) WHAT I ORDERED: 2 eight-piece combos - after tax this turned out to be $30.25 We wanted to try a bit of everything, so we chose the combos which lets you pick what goes in them! We got the jhol momo, Tibetan momo, alu momo, and the darj momo FOOD: The jhol momo was great, flavorful filling and the sauce was AMAZING (we ended up drinking it after finishing the dumplings ...). And the Tibetan momos were better - I think the fattiness of the pork made it way juicier and richer. But I think the stars of the show were the alu and darj momos for me. The potato was such a nice mouthfeel - very tender and almost reminiscent of a pierogi but more flavorful. The ginger in the darj definitely blew everything out of the water. TIP: Get the hot sauce. It's actually spicy but flavorful as well. In terms of portion size, I'd say 8 pieces is good to fill up one person. We wanted to try a bunch of places in the market though, so we split the two combos among four people and it made for a good snack. SERVICE: Everyone was kind but it took a while for the food to come out. Like 15-20 minutes. I'd recommend putting this order in first and then exploring the market and snacking on stuff while you wait. VIBES: There's a little bit of a place to eat at the bar where Momo Ghar is, but I imagine it could fill up during a rush. But there's tons of seating in the back of the market so we opted for that instead. BOTTOM LINE: Go here and get the combos so you can explore what they have to offer!

Yelp
Momo Ghar is awesome! This family-owned biz is easily one of the best vendors in the North Market. Theyre great people and their dumplings are top notch. I recently ordered a sampler platter-- 15 dumplings for $15. I loved every one and demolished them with a friend instantly. The sauce they come with is incredible too. This vendor has been at the North Market for quite some time and there's a reason for it. Go visit Momo Ghar!
google avatar

Olivia G.

Yelp
I really wanted to love these dumplings especially because they have so much hype but I couldn't. The staff were kind and the food came out quick. But the wrapper of the dumplings was very thick and the filling was tough. Maybe I got them on an off day but I wouldn't recommend. :(
google avatar

Yelp
We weren't full from our dinner so we decided to stop by Momo Ghar. We parked at the street parking and was able to find parking quickly. This place is located in a food hall. The dumplings were fresh and flavorful. We got half and half of Jhol Momo (chicken dumplings) and Tibetan Momo (pork dumplings). Both were really good and had a nice flavor. The dumplings came with this curry dipping sauce and we also put some hot sauce on it. It was different than what I was used to which was dipping it with soy sauce. It reminded me of xiao long pao but like with curry soup. I don't know if this would be the best of the best dumplings ever but they were definitely tasty and delicious.
google avatar

Seth B.

Yelp
Absolutely insane. These were incredible. Staff were very friendly. This is located inside a very great market with lots of other shops.
google avatar

Kara B.

Yelp
The dumplings are so good! There is a great variety and something for everyone! You can get the sampler and try multiple or even get a half order! Some of the best dumplings I have had!
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
Loved the dumplings and loved the service. They were just getting started for the day but yet we're very welcoming and accommodating. I tried both chicken and pork - frozen take-home. So easy to make and prepare. They provided both sauce and hot sauce!
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
We ordered the potato dumplings as a snack before a Columbus Blue Jackets game. Excellent flavor! I'm sure the other dumplings are amazing if they can work such magic with a potato. The service is outstanding -- a friend ordered a slice of pizza from another vendor at North Market. While we waited on fresh, hot, delicious dumplings, our friend was given foil to cover their slice of pizza by one of the wonderful folks at Momo Ghar, North Market. The courtesy and kindness...I'm at a loss for words to capture the feeling. The food and service leaves you feeling like you had a fuzzy warm hug.
google avatar

Nicholas D.

Yelp
Service is great and quick. Dumplings are light but so packed with flavor. They have vegetarian options, too.
google avatar

Nelson Y.

Yelp
A little pricey for what it is. The filling was a little salty, but it was okay. The sauce kind of mellowed it out.
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
We got the jhol momo. Dumplings were very juicy. It was our first time coming to the North Market. The woman was very nice. I felt like the price was a little too much for 8 dumplings.
google avatar

Greg M.

Yelp
Saw this place on Tripple D, so had to give it a try. This place is tucked inside the North Market across from the Convention Center. Basically a big armory with a bunch of food stuffs in it. How Guy finds these places, I'll never know, but im glad he did. Ordered the Jhol Momo, split between chicken and pork. Service was quick and friendly. Went upstairs to eat. Food was good, but I didn't get a boner over it like Guy did. The hot sauce is crazy hot. Should have used half of what I did. Very happy this place has a Jeni's ice cream in it too!
google avatar

Kyle W.

Yelp
Momos are the Nepal/Tibet/Himalayan dumplings and I enjoy the sauce that usually goes with them. Here, we got the combo for $13.50 which has 8 pieces, and you get to choose 2 flavors - we got #2 and #5 which is a pork and a chicken/ginger filling, respectively. It came with the momo sauce which is fairly soupy and has a bit of a kick in spice, and it pairs well with the dumplings. The momos are good but some of them are a bit undercooked, and I felt that they were just mostly reheated from the packs that they sell.
google avatar

Ina F.

Yelp
This came highly recommended by Eater and I saw that Guy Fieri had visited this particular food stall in North Market. Had the chicken and the pork momos as well as a side of Alu Dum. My friend and I much preferred the flavor and texture of the chicken momos. Generally speaking, it felt like the food was a little over salted but it was a great lunch. The Alu Dum (potato salad) had a touch of curry flavoring which was lovely.
google avatar

Tymeia T.

Yelp
I got the half order of the number 1. I liked that you could order a half order. I was expecting more flavor. It was good but the sauce didn't pop for me. This was my first time trying this type of cuisine so my review doesn't reflect the quality of the food or service.
google avatar

Dheeman C.

Yelp
Everything about this place is excellent.. from the food, to the service to the ambience. The people running the show are extremely friendly and welcoming. We had the momo platter and the aloo momos. The food is good enough to consider relocating.
google avatar

George L.

Yelp
I had Momo Ghar bookmarked for years since its inclusion to the top 100 Yelp restaurants in 2017, and finally in 2021 I got to try it. Long story short it's good but not perfect. As a Nepalese/Tibetan takeout spot in the middle of the upscale North Market in downtown Columbus, Momo Ghar is just one of many food stalls found in the market and definitely has very interesting decor. To be honest a lot of other stalls look like they have equally appetizing food which my friends tried, and I was the only one who tried this spot despite the huge options in the market. The "Momo" is basically Nepalese style dumplings with small chimney holes at the top of the dumplings, which is slightly different than typical Chinese style dumplings that I'm familiar with. They are make to order by hand individually which does take longer than expected, so be patient. I ordered the Jhol Momo (Nepalese dumplings) and the Alu Dum (Nepalese potato salad) Jhol Momo is a 4/5. To be honest this is more expensive than the typical street food you'd find in Hong Kong, but works well enough. You do get 8 big Momos for about $10 so it's a tad pricey, but still decent overall. The spicy sauce was aight and the chicken was filled the full Momo with little air in between. You don't have to order chicken Jhol Momo as they have other meat and vegetarian options as a choice as well. Overall, it's good but not mind-blowing. Alu Dum: 4/5 Tastes like a potato salad but with curry. I actually like this and it compliments well with the hot Momo that I ordered. Wasn't mind-blowing either but certainly wasn't bad. Overall, neat spot that is a little pricey on options, more of a large snack and is nonetheless interesting in the middle of Columbus.
google avatar

Jocelyn R.

Yelp
We got their supposedly famous dumplings... no bueno and bland. The outside texture of the dumplings were good but the filling left a lot to be desired.
google avatar

Antora S.

Yelp
I have been to the sarega location but this is the first time I have been to the north market location. I love their momos. They are so good. I went on a weekday at lunch time and waited about 5 min to order, few people were waiting before me. And it took about 10 min after I ordered to get the food. I ordered the chicken jhol momo and the Tibetan chicken momo. Both of them were just delicious. Especially when you dip it in their homemade sauce. If you like momos and are in the North Market then definitely check this place out.
google avatar

Irene C.

Yelp
We always make it a point to stop at Triple D places when traveling to new cities and this was another great recommendation by Guy! We had the Jhol Momo (chicken) - tender wrapper with ample filling - the divinely flavorful sauce is what elevated the dish! A tasty bite at the North Market Downtown!
google avatar

Kim I.

Yelp
I went for lunch and the food was delicious. There is a bar with stools if you want to eat right at the counter. If it's too busy or you need more space, you can go upstairs. I believe the man taking my order was the owner's husband. He was very kind and knowledgeable. It was obvious he loved their product.
google avatar

Bailey E.

Yelp
The vegan potato ones I got were pretty okay, but at least one of my chicken and ginger ones had meat that was still pink/not safe to eat. If you like cilantro, this can be the place for you because it's in a lot of things. Service is kind and pretty quick, and it's part of the north market so you go upstairs or off somewhere else to sit and eat. Comes with a sauce, which I didn't love, and I thought the dumpling was a little doughy personally.
google avatar

Michele F.

Yelp
Excellent service. Iconic market. Food is 10/10. The classic momos are great. Pork ones are good too. If in doubt. Get the sampler.
google avatar

Angie M.

Yelp
Who comes to Columbus and does not eat momos? My sister got a chicken one for herself, veggie one for me, and someone else at the table got a chicken with turmeric. Everyone loved all of the chicken ones. But what I love most about the vegetarian one is that there are actually vegetables in it!
google avatar

Payal P.

Yelp
The vegetarian momo was just okay. My partner tried the other variations of momo and enjoyed it much more than I did. 3 stars as a vegetarian!
google avatar

Clare C.

Yelp
I think this place is so fun! It's inside the north market and I love it. Guy fieri has been here on DDD and I think that is a big draw for me. The workers are nice. My friend and I ordered momo to split. They had vegetarian options for her which was nice. The momo was very good and we were able to get two different kinds to try. The sauce that comes with them is flavorful but a little runny. It was ~$12 for 8. It was about a 10-15 minute wait once we ordered.
google avatar

Marissa C.

Yelp
We got an order of the pork momos, which came with a truly excellent homemade sauce on the side. The momos came in a generous portion and were quite flavorful. They have a couple of different filling options, including chicken and one with a meat-free potato base. A very enjoyable option at the North Market!

Yelp
It was nice to see momo ghar at north market! I wanted to try their momo's and I believe I got the johl momo. They tasted great with the sauce! The person who gave me the food also gave me an additional pork momo which I thought was nice :)

Yelp
Since living in Columbus a few years ago, I had heard and read a lot about Momo Ghar but never had the chance to try. On a recent trip back to CBus, we stopped at the North Market and knew this was our shot. If you didn't know about Momo Ghar, you would easily miss it - the stand is nicely decorated but relatively low frills and pizzaz. We were there at an "off" meal time, so it wasn't crowded at all and we were quickly greeted. We tried to ask some questions about what to order but were met with some confusion (maybe we phrased things the wrong way), but no big deal! It was a small menu so not too difficult to navigate. Based on the reviews I'd read, it seemed like the Jhol Momo and Tibetan Momo were the ones to try, so my husband got #1, and I got #2. I had never really had Nepalese food nor dumplings, so I was going in blind, but they were delish! Both orders had incredible flavor, and the outside was so soft while the inside contents provided the substance needed. The accompanying sauce made for a nice touch and extra kick of flavor. There were 8 dumplings to an order, which was quite generous since each one was pretty filling! We are so glad we could try Momo Ghar out, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone in Columbus looking for a unique cuisine that won't break the bank and will fill you up.
