A cute sushi joint in the Pearl District of Portland! Here is what we ordered - Oysters, Salmon Crispy Rice Roll, Tuna Crispy Rice Roll, their specialty rolls spacing in the name but it had seared salmon, salmon skin in the roll. It was delicious! We did order the Anago which was okay. Overall service and atmosphere was great.

This place is phenomenal! Food is excellent! Our waiter David was excellent! Very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. The atmosphere is lovely. Gives a cozy vibe with a touch of Japanese flare! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience! I ordered the Lobster roll (pictured) Rainbow roll with real crab Tuna tower (pictured) My husband ordered the Toro tasting Fuji old fashioned Momo mango cocktail (pictured)

Momoyama is a great place for sushi in the Pearl District. The restaurant is spacious with lots of seating. They have many delicious Japanese entrees. We ordered oysters both with and without uni. I preferred the one without uni. The oysters with uni was a little salty for me taste. I liked both the spicy salmon and tuna on crispy rice. And their momo san sushi roll was delicious! Loved the seared salmon is that roll.

This is now one of my favorite restaurants. The foie gras don is very tasty and worth the money. We have been traveling from Seattle and the foie gras don at Momoyama Restaurant is way better than all foie gras in other French and Japanese restaurants. Sashimi is also very fresh. Besides the good food, we were provided excellent service. We hope to come again the next time visiting Portland.

The food was yummy, the Japanese old fashion was delicious and the service was wonderful. We tried a handful of plates and each one was flavorful. Can’t wait to go back and try more! Great spot for a date or dinner with a group of friends.

Best sushi, atmosphere, and service in Portland. Happy Hour until 6 is a very nice touch. I was absolutely blown away by the attention to detail, quality of ingredients, outstanding service, and selection of creative dishes. I cannot wait to return.

We have the impression that Japanese restaurants are expensive while not offering authentic taste, but the chef here has good taste. Lunch prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is elegant. We had the Braised Pork Belly, Tonkatsu Curry, and Bento Box (Salmon Teriyaki, California Roll, and Shrimp Tempura). Unfortunately, the shrimp tempura in the bento box was a 'deep fried shrimp' than Japanese TEMPURA, and the cutlet in the curry was disappointingly thin and lacked juiciness. Additionally, red pickled ginger is not used in Japan, as it tends to overshadow the curry's flavor. If FUKUJINZUKE, a classic curry accompaniment, is unavailable, it might be better to serve the curry without any side. (By the way, red pickled ginger makes an excellent garnish for beef bowls.🤤👍) The staff was so pleasant.😊✨

Juan was our server and basically guided us into one of the most amazing experiences ever. The food was all so delicious and I tasted unique dishes that I have never tried before, all with incredible flavor. Highly recommend the short ribs, and the other specialty dishes (not good with the names) all of them were amazing.

Food Taste: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Value: 4.5/5 Ambiance: More upscale than casual This place replaced the old Yama Sushi, and based on some other reviews, confirms it. If you're looking for flavorful sushi, Momoyama has it. Rolls are tasty and delicious. I'm a long time fan of the tuna tower. Service was attentive for us, polite waitstaff, regular refills. We did dine at 9pm though where it wasn't as busy. Value-wise, as of Jan'25, rolls are roughly $19-22 on average. A bit higher than the Portland average, but I expected this from this location. I'd come back again.

What an unfortunate experience we had at Momoyama on a Saturday night. We made a reservation for 4 at 6:30 and were seated promptly, but unfortunately that was where the quality service stopped. Every interaction we had after that was horrible. First, after being sat, 30 minutes went by where no one came to greet us or take our order, despite all of the tables around us being taken care of. After 30 min, we got up to ask the host to send someone over and she said she would send someone over right away. Another 5 minutes go by where no one comes, and we had to flag a waiter down. We placed our entire order, food and drinks, all at once. Our order consisted of gyoza, a few crispy rice orders, nigiri, and a single roll. It took 45 minutes before the first item came out. After another 20 minutes (now 8:05pm for a 6:30pm reservation), we had the roll and one of three crispy rice out. We asked when we could expect the rest of the order to come out and the manager informed us we were the longest ticket in the house and they were working on it. Shocking. It's disappointing the service was so awful, because the food was very good. With all the sushi options in town, we likely won't be going back.

Extremely high quality and authentic sushi spot A little on the pricey spot but a very well thought out menu with good service and a upscale environment

The restaurant was elegantly designed, with a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes it perfect for a special night out or a casual lunch. The soft lighting and tasteful decor create an enjoyable environment. Service was attentive and friendly, with staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and eager to make recommendations. The only downside was the pricing, which felt a bit on the higher side. While the quality justifies it to some extent, it might be a consideration for those on a tighter budget.

Had dinner here for the first time yesterday and it was delicious! The server was very polite and explained the menu well when I had a question. We ordered the kitchen squid ink pasta, osaka roll, salmon and scallops roll, and salmon toro nigiri. Drinks we ordered momo mocktail and Sapporo. Again, everything was delicious was quite refreshing. My only negative is that all the mussels in the pasta had sand in it which definitely put a damper on the dish for me in the beginning.

Been here a few times over the few years it has been opened. The food never stood out to me but the last time I went will probably be the very last time I'll step foot in this establishment. We ordered the squid ink noodle and the mussel tasted bad - it tasted like it has been left out in room temperature for hours before it gets cooked. When I complaint to the server, they said they'll reflect back to management but no other actions were taken, not even a "I'm sorry you were unhappy with this dish" or how they can improve... P.S, when I told my friend this experience, they agreed that they tasted the same weird taste when they had ordered it at their visit.

I just got discharged from the hospital. Lunch gave me a 4-day viral infection that caused gastroenteritis. I should be 100% in another few days.

Momoyama is my top pick for sushi in the Pearl District. The menu is not only delicious but also playful, featuring so many highlights that it's hard to choose a favorite! I highly recommend the Omakase menu--it will leave you wowed, full, and thoroughly satisfied. Pro Tip: For the best experience, order the Omakase menu while seated at the counter. Chef Scott Chae's quiet precision truly exemplifies the spirit of omotenashi, and you can feel his dedication to his craft with each beautifully presented dish.

Not vegetarian friendly! Came in, there are a few sushi items, but no vegetarian ramen or sometime warm. Decided to leave because it's winter and we wanted something warm and satisfying

The sushi is absolutely delicious, each piece is incredibly fresh, and you could really taste the quality of the fish. Food arrived at our table super quickly, which was a nice surprise. The service was friendly and attentive. The place itself is beautiful, with a sleek, modern design that fits perfectly in the Pearl District

Momoyama was great, the service was very professional and friendly, making us feel welcome from start to finish. Everything we tried was amazing, but the popcorn lobster roll was definitely the highlight. The mix of flavors and texture was exceptional, and I couldn't get enough of it! The presentation of the food was stunning; each dish was beautifully arranged, and the overall neatness of the restaurant added to the experience. I hope to be back soon!

This is now one of my favorite spots! The interior is super classy, all their plates were colorful and their food was all amazing. The seafood squid ink pasta was so loaded with seafood and garlic, perfect. The tuna tower and korean fried chicken were both flavorful. Salmon sampler had the perfect rice to salmon ratio. And the lobster was basically a fancier shrimp tempura roll with lobster and it was amazing! I loved this meal and will definitely be back! Our server David was super friendly and provided his recommendations, which the ones we ended up getting were amazing! There was street parking but we opted for a parking lot nearby with a 10 min walk.

Kids wanted sushi so found this place based on Yelp suggestions. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance. We ordered our usual Japanese items. Service and food came out quick. Everything tasted good except for the karma, could use a little more seasoning and little over cooked. The cut on the nigiri is on the smaller size (3.5 ) considering the price. We also ordered a chirashi bowl not pictured, which was also very small for $44!!!

Returned to Momoyama today for lunch, every item was so delicious and fresh! I ordered the usual things - uni pasta (still my favorite pasta in Portland!), uni oysters, shishito peppers and toro sampler as well as some other new items: buttered scallop, scallop with foie gras and tuna tartare which Chef Scott made at request. I love this place, food is always consistently wonderful and so is service! Thank you again for a great meal

We had the calamari kaarage and chirashi sushi. Both were excellent. The chirashi was fresh, artful with a generous quantity of fish. Service was friendly and attentive.

Come on. It isn't fair to rank Momoyama anywhere near Portland's top ranking sushi restaurants because it simply CLEARS every other place. Between the servers and ambiance, you can't go wrong. It's a fantastic experience where fine dining meets casual but the food is nothing casual. You will experience flavor bursts of many elegant combinations that the chefs have prepared and enjoy each bite with the pleasure of knowing there will be more afterwards. This is my number one. It makes a great date place, meeting, and casual dinner with friends and family. I've been a long-time goer and I don't anticipate on changing that. Best sushi in PDX for sure.

Our second time here. They serve edomae style sushi (small finger food) so it's easy to try different pieces and more. Food is good and our daughter loves their appetiser. Restaurant is pricey but we had a spacious and clean booth to ourselves which was perfect for our occasion. BTW, if you are parking near by the restaurant, expect to have to wash your car after the meal!

MMomoyama is a hidden gem for sushi lovers! The fish is always fresh, and the rolls are well-crafted and flavorful. I tried the spicy tuna and salmon avocado rolls, and both were amazing light, yet packed with flavor. Their sashimi is also top-notch and melts in your mouth. The service is attentive and friendly, with the staff making sure you're well taken care of without being intrusive. The ambience is cozy and relaxed, perfect for a casual dinner or date night. The simple decor and quiet atmosphere let you focus on the food.

Rachel was the absolute cutest! She's a great server who was very attentive to everything, from our drinks to apps to dinner...and more dinner...and more dinner... We started with the garlic edimame. I got spicy tuna rolls. My friend got multiple items, of which he shared with me. I'm not the biggest fan of raw fish, all by itself, but I got talked into trying his tuna and salmon (and whatever the 3rd fish was) and admittedly, it was good. I prefer my fish to have rice & seaweed wrap, as well as spicy mayo, cripsy onions and wasabi (which is what I got) but his lone fish was fresh and not fishy. The only item I did not try was the eggplant. Nope. Tried that once (elsewhere) and I don't feel like trying it again. The restaurant itself was sparkling clean, to the point where you could probably eat off the floors. And parking in the Pearl is safer than other areas in Portland, so that is a plus. I'd definitely go back, because it's intimate for small groups but can also accommodate larger groups (like for my dinner club).

I came here for a romantic dinner with my boyfriend after hearing raving reviews about it from a friend and, it was such a lovely dinner! The inside of the restaurant is fairly spacious with bar seating, booths, and tables. One aspect I really enjoyed was that each table had dividers, and so you had a lot of privacy as you dined. The inside is dimly lit and makes for a perfect spot for a nice dinner. Service was quick and very polite. My boyfriend and I ordered their uni pasta, a variety of nigiri, their spicy salmon crispy rice, and a matcha creme brulee (from their dessert menu). The uni pasta was amazing. The squid ink made it very fun, they weren't skimping on the uni, and it was the perfect amount of buttery creaminess. All of the nigiri were amazing quality as well and I truly loved the wagyu nigiri. Spicy salmon crispy rice was pretty standard--good and VERY filling. And the matcha creme brulee was delicious, but just a bit too sweet and you couldn't taste the matcha as much as I would have liked. Overall, the dinner was amazing, and I would love to come back for more of their nigiri or sashimi and try other dishes!

This might be my new favorite sushi restaurant. They have grilled octopu, which was amazing. The agadashi tofu was great. They did have a solid grouping of vegan rolls and vegan dishe, including a ton that were not tofu based. The shishito peppers were spicy and delicious. The cocktails had so much detail that sounded a bit odd but actually turned out so good. The spices margarita thing and the fancy old fashion were great selections by me. The service was impeccable. I honestly can't say anything bad even if I nit picked.

Fast service, great food, friendly staff! We got the garlic edamame, crispy rice with spicy tuna, dragon roll, and Korean fried chicken which were all bomb! The only things that were a miss for us were the spicy PNW roll - it had pickled jalapeños in it which gave it a funky flavor. And then the bacon wrapped scallops were meh, just flirting with undercooked and I know scallops are hard to get right so I never expect too much. The desserts were amazing!

We came here for a New Year's Eve dinner, and was able to get a reservation a couple days before at 5:30. The decor and restaurant capacity was on point, and the workers are all hustling and Bustin and had a great attitude which helped the whole vibe. We tried a lot of things such as the lobster, uni pasta, tuna tower, momo mango drink, blossom drink, the Jamison, matcha cream brûlée, crispy rice tuna, and salmon carpaccio. Overall, everything was very good. The uni pasta was really nice with the garlicky and smooth pasta with the kick of saltiness from the tobiko. The uni added a savory creamy fresh ocean contrast to the pasta bites as well. The lobster was our favorite roll with the nice muscular lobster on top of the sushi roll. The tuna tower is also a must get because the flavor and quantity of food you get for your dollar. Next time I go, which I definitely will, I'll for sure get the tuna tower and lobster. Must gets!!! Another shout out to the service. They were all truly awesome.

5* for service and the sea of thank you, when we left. Very nice staff. Nice ambience. Now, the miso was good. The edamame was cooked perfectly. Liked the garlic on it but salts better. The scallops skewer was not a hit for me. Bacon was pretty limp and the scallops were cold cold in the middle. The beef skewers were pretty good but lol comically small. Imo. Now my dissatisfaction is the sushi. Dragon roll, eel was burnt tasting. Not a good burnt. Drowning to the point you couldn't even see the roe on top of it. Meh. All around. Golden roll was good but thin cut roll and just kinda small for the price. Lobster roll, good again. The rice melted off with one dip of soy sauce a couple of times. The lobster its self was good! Cooked well! But over all I was not enchanted by flavor. Thank you! Amazing staff but cost to flavor flop.

Holiday, Pearl District - quite a few restaurants within walking distance from Mariott Residence. No appointment made, sufficient sitting area both Table and Bar seating. Services were fast and food delivery was even faster ! Must have: Seafood squid ink pasta (not common) Various nigiri ordered, all fresh and flavorful, don't think you can go wrong. Great option if you're around the corner for a fulfilling meal!

First time here, and I was very pleased!! The quality of the fish was great, and I can tell that it was very fresh. Everything I got was delicious. The takoyaki had a decent amount of octopus rather than just breading. The roll was good, perfect for salmon lovers like myself, but I want to try something else next time because they had good selections. The place has a very clean modern look and feels fancy. Perfect date night spot! Good service as well. I'm definitely coming back to try other things.

10/10 love eating here! I got a shrimp tempura roll and Korean chicken. The chicken had the perfect amount of sauce to chicken ratio. Had a great waiter named Henry who was able to help me choose. Walking in the restaurant, it's got a nice, relaxing mood to it. I also had another dish but I forgot the name of it was called. Definitely will be coming here.

Momoyama has been one of my favorite sushi restaurants in all of Portland so this review has been long overdue! I first went to Momoyama back in 2021 and I don't think it's lost its spark. The service there is A1, especially David; my favorite server of all time!! Also not to mention the quality of the fish is always so fresh! One of my favorites to get there is the Toyosu Fish Market Special which features fish straight from the Toyosu market from Japan. Another of my favorites would be the tuna tower, a dish that incorporates sushi rice, tuna, avocado, krab salad, and tobiko into a tower. A must-get in my opinion if you like oysters is the oysters topped with uni and tobiko, one of the best oysters I've had in my life.

So happy I finally got to try Momoyama! Veryy good spot for sushi in the Pearl, and after everything we got, it was pretty affordable too. The highlights were the Jamison Roll and Spicy Salmon Crispy rice. The roll was so refreshing and light, and I felt like I could eat 10 more. The crispy shallot topping was not crispy unfortunately, but the roll was still a 10/10 without it, which goes to show how good the roll and fish itself was. The crispy rice was flavorful and warm and I liked how big the size was. All the staff were so friendly and attentive. And we liked how spacious and yet cosy the booths felt. All in all, made for a nice Wednesday night out with friends. Would definitely return.

This is one of the best places to hang out with friends or family at night. We had a lot of fun together here. Personally, I follow a keto-friendly diet, and if you come here, you should definitely try the ribs. If 10/10 is the best food ever, then the ribs deserve at least a 9/10. My family loved the sushi and the ramen, especially the dessert at the end. The place also has very nice vibes. The only con was the downtown parking, which felt a little sketchy at night. But everything else is perfect. Bring someone you love and enjoy your time here. I highly recommend the night vibe.

Came back for my birthday. Absolutely amazing! Portions a little smaller than other restaurants but worth it. The oysters were soooo yummy. Service was great! They brought me an ice cream and the sweet waitress sang me a song for my birthday. Thank you!

Very good sushi & Japanese food. The menu is quite extensive (like a 7 page book) which means they offer many different options besides sushi but also makes it time consuming to pick something out. We tried a few different things, all which we liked. - Jamison roll: light and fresh tasting, not overly sauced and fried shallots gave nice crunch and flavor - Market Fish sampler: flight of 5 nigiri chefs choice. They were mostly snappers and sea bream. Tougher than many other cuts of sushi but I liked trying them since not many restaurants carry them. - Ika- karaage: very good one of the best I've had actual full baby squids instead of those chewy rings where you're not sure if it's a pig rectum - Uni pasta: squid ink pasta w/ uni butter topped w/ a dollop of uni and ikura. Im not a huge uni guy but I really liked this dish. It's not as big as a full pasta entree like you'd get at an Italian restaurant but it's still a good portion IMO, you wouldn't want more than that cause it's rich. And the ikura in there adds a nice salty pop. Lots here we didnt try, they have such a huge menu there's bound to be something everyone can enjoy. My one complaint tho is that if you're looking for rolls, their roll selection is kinda lame. Besides the one we tried none of the others sounded/looked very good.

Amazing Japanese food in this part of town! The booths in the back are really cozy and have a nice authentic charm to them. Try the sake, pair it with your favorite sushi, and get the Korean fried chicken! Service is friendly so ask for recommendations! Definitely great to bring visitors and friends!

Good ambiance and service and good sushi overall. I liked the short ribs a lot and the dragon roll was well done. Also enjoyed the truffle salt on the edamame! I don't think the fish is the freshest/most unique in town but definitely a solid sushi place

Oh man this place is awesome- and I don't even eat seafood! Plenty of other choices, great drinks, and yes my friends loved their fish too. I had the beef skewers, beet salad, and shared some asparagus. Even the plain RICE is excellent.

This has to be the best sushi in Portland (and one of the best sushi spots I have ever been to). The fish was extremely fresh tasting, the drinks were flavorful, and the service was spectacular. I look forward to coming here again in the future. Highly recommend this location for a date or a small group as it has an intimate vibe.

Everything we had was absolutely delicious and tasted so fresh. The fried foods were seasoned to perfection and complimented our meal very well. It can get a little spendy depending on what you order, but it's worth it. It's street parking but there's a lot around. The most important thing to a sushi restaurant is how fresh the seafood is and this place is A+. I will try more of the cooked foods next time as well.

So its more a 3.5 star than 3 because my hubby certainly felt that they were 4 stars but alas that wasn't my experience . We stopped for dinner on a weekend and were immediately seated which is great because I am not a big fan of waiting .The restaurent is pretty big and plenty of seating is available both at the bar and at the booths . We had been to Momoyama before and knew that the food was good. We started with ordering a cocktail each . I stuck to my current obsession -the Old fashioned and my hubby asked for the Yuzu ranch water but with Mezcal . They were not only kind enough to make it with mezcal but also offered us a taste of two of the best mezcals they had . I wasn't a fan of my cocktail so much so that I just couldn't drink it and ended up giving it to my husband ..it lacked any sweetness from the apple cinnamon syrup and felt just nutty and nothing else .The staff was so sweet that I just couldn't bring myself to send it back . My hubby on the other hand was having the best time with not one but two cocktails and two samplers of mezcal . We ordered -Jamison , Salmon sushi roll , Crispy salmon with rice , Fresh water eel and salmon roe Nigiri . The sushi is pretty authentic but to me it felt a little too bland -don't get me wrong I am not a fan of sauce drenched fried Americanized versions of Sushi but this did feel like it was lacking on so many fronts . The fish was fresh , the portions were good and the presentation was pretty appealing but the taste is what was missing specially from the Jamison and salmon sushi roll. I did love both the Nigiris that I ordered . The service is great and very friendly and the staff went beyond on making it a good experience . Prices are slightly on the higher side.

This is by far my favorite sushi spot in Portland, possibly my favorite in the country. Fair prices, the best sashimi and sushi. Excellent service too. Indoor and outdoor seating options.

Fantastic in every way! Great food, TREMENDOUS service, really nice booth! Real wasabi was a novelty, nice texture. Sapporo on tap. Cocktails and sake terrific. Fresh, perfect fish. Perfect miso. Wide variety to offer something for everyone.

Let's start with the pros since I wanted to really like this place a lot. Pros You know it's a decent Japanese restaurant when you walk in. The place is big and clean. Well kept / new interior. Very nice cushy booth seats with high backs. Good for a party of 2 or even 9 because the seats are so large. Suitable for business meetings, friends and family dinners or dates. Large menu selection they includes appetizers, ramen, cooked and raw food, sushi, sashimi and fish shipped in from Japan. Everything is tasty. Great service. Well staffed in both the kitchen, sushi bar and on the floor. I saw on Yelp that the selection of desserts looked really good and I wanted to try but I didn't get the chance at this dinner. Cons Although everything was tasty, but there wasn't a wow factor. The price point was a higher than it's competitors. The sashimi is on the spendy side (refer to online menu for price) since some of the fish because is from Japan - but honestly what the chef gave me was only ok. Expect to spend around $100/person to be completely full for a decent meal with sashimi. But at this price I can get better sushi elsewhere. So unfortunately I probably won't come back unless I'm coming back to eat with dessert.

Can you say perfection! I went to Momoyama recently with some coworkers for lunch and it was just perfect. Lovely ambiance, great service and the food, wow! I had the bento box with salmon teriyaki, tuna rolls and salad. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the teriyaki glaze was great. It wasn't too sweet or too salty, it was just right. The tuna sushi rolls with some wasabi, ginger and dipped in soy sauce, were an explosion of flavor! The salad came with a thick, yellow dressing, not sure which one it was, but it was extremely tasty. The bentos also come with miso soup and rice. The soup was also quite good. In addition, I ordered the smashed, crispy potatoes with Wagyu beef drippings. They were incredible! Very rich and tasty, they were everything and more. I also tasted my friend's Korean fried chicken and it was bomb! It was crispy, slightly sweet, slightly spicy, a total dream. Momoyama is super great and I'm ready to go back already!

Maybe the best sushi I've ever had, and I've had the best from Aspen to Newport Beach to Maui! Chef Scott was gracious, amazing? And generous. The soy sauce is handmade and there's a huge difference! Even the ginger was better than most places. Thanks, Sandie Lynn

What an amazing place. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and I found this spot to eat since wifey loves her sushi and they got a steak for me On the menu. We were late on our reservations but they definitely took consideration for us. Thank you for being patient. We ordered so much food and we devoured all of it. The steak was on point it came with a yummy amount of asparagus, mashed potatoes, sautéed onions and mushrooms. It also came with 4 sides of different salt to dip... boy that truffle salt was my favorite. The sashimi was super fresh and portioned well. We ordered the spicy edamame, the momosan roll, the sashimi sampler, baki Kama (sorry if it's wrong spelling) but omg all was super good. Our server Joy was also amazing and helpful. We had to give our appreciation to the sushi chefs and tipped them as well. Parking is angle or street. Try to get in early and plan for that. Overall great place to celebrate our special day.

The food is always amazing and consistent every time! Chef Scott is very skilled and meticulous in all the dishes he creates. Great food is an expectation but what really makes this place stand out is the staff! The service here is what you would expect for a special night out; this team will definitely make you feel special. My husband and I visit often and we always see the same staff which I think says a lot about the leadership team. Everyone is always so happy to be here and it feels very inclusive! I have attended a sake tasting dinner where they brought a sake master from Japan to teach us about the product. We met new locals and had a wonderful experience! Thank you everyone at Momoyama for always welcoming us and making amazing food that keeps us coming back!! P.S. The uni and tuna tower are my favorite items!
