Loved this place! It’s a steakhouse, but their lunch menu has plenty of other great options. The dining room is beautifully designed - elegant but still super cozy. The staff was really attentive, and honestly, I’m surprised we hadn’t discovered this spot sooner. It’s also super Instagrammable! Alex the manager noticed we were interested in the design, so he took the time to show us around. Such a nice touch!

Google
Delicious food, portions are on the small side, but great quality and well prepared. The prime rib is one of the best I had. The decor and vibe are great, clientele is mostly business crowd from midtown. Great bar, but drinks are on the smaller side. Impecable service, not too quiet not too loud for having conversations.

Google
Food was good. I got the truffle lasagna and I took my time eating it and the sauce inside got really thickened and it wasn't as enjoyable. The flavor was on point. We also got the tableside prime rib and it was good. The mustard seemed like it was house made and was very tasty, it was as tangy as normal mustard (I am normally not a fan of mustard either). The smoky Paloma was good but the salt took away from the drink. At first the servers were very attentive but by the end of the night we were waiting over 15+ minutes just to get our bill to leave. I did not let this impact the review but when reserving, we put that we were celebrating a birthday and when we got here that wasn't even acknowledged. It might not have been fully communicated but it would have been nice to have had a candle or something come out with the dessert we ordered (just a recommendation going forward).

Google
Very attractive restaurant. Excellent, friendly service. Quite empty on a Saturday night, but they say weekdays are their more popular times. Their regular menu is, in my opinion, very expensive, but there were two other appealing options. Their NYC Restaurant Week menu ($60) sounded good, but we opted for their Friday & Saturday night Prime Rib Dinner ($75), which was delicious. Two excellent appetizer, potato, & dessert choices (including Cloud Cake, of which I posted a photo). The prime rib came on an opulent cart, with thick slabs carved at the table.

Google
Solid prime rib. Generous cut carved table side in a classic prime rib cart. I like salt but even for me the crust was a little salty. My only criticism of the cut of beef. Otherwise it was tender and delicious. For the price I would expect the prime rib cart to come with more sides like the classics carts at Lawrys or House of PR, but it only came with a potato puree aka gourmet mashed potatoes, which were good. Au jus was great. Broccolini had a nice kick and the service was very good.

Google
We had a great meal for four, ordering the porterhouse, pasta, oysters, calamari, salad, and a few side dishes. Everything was enjoyable, except the French fries, which were a bit too salty. The atmosphere was lovely, and the food was delicious — but the real highlight of the evening was the dessert. We ordered the Bananas Foster (for two), which came with a live flambé show right next to our table. A fun and memorable way to end the meal!

Google
We were here for a Sunday brunch, a private event. I therefore can’t really comment on the regular menu. I can tell you that the atmosphere is great, the service was impeccable and the food was terrific . The brunch consisted of standard eggs and accompaniments, smoked salmon and standard accompaniments, and the bread that has been mentioned multiple times that comes in a wheel and pieces break off. It is a wonderful onion bread. I wanted to take a bunch of them home. Everything was great and I would really like to try this for a meal off of the menu.

Google
A wonderful dining experience. We were guests of a lady. First time for all of us. We ordered Tenderloin, pan roasted salmon and steak frites. Also a salad to share Appetizer was prawns. Overall a great dinner. Very attentive service.

Yelp
As I entered the restaurant, I was super impressed by the old world elegance of the art deco looking atmosphere. The carved roast beef was cut to order , table side and was tender and tasty. The service is un-rushed, polite and professional . I had two "issues" with this otherwise lovely restaurant: Firstly , they served me a martini in the smallest glass in creation. With the price of drinks these days, a more gracious pour is in order. Secondly , they pipe in loud music. In this atmosphere, something like Sinatra or Ella Fitzgerald, softly in the background would be okay. Instead, it's loud Truck-stop stuff , and you strain to converse over it with dinner companions ! If they address these two issues, I would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Worthy of my 1000th review, a stunning Deco vibe steakhouse upon entering. First thing you'll notice besides the energy is the lightness of the colors of the place. It's pastel seating makes it warm and vibrant. Great for business meetings, social gatherings or a date. Totally a vibe. First thing I noticed once seated, was the awesome Martini bar cart. The menu showcases a few pre-designed drinks or you can customize your own classic with perhaps a twist or a shake. The idea is to watch the Sommelier at work. Then there's the prime rib entree, also served table side -- wheeled over on a cart! It's quite a presentation...get that camera ready. The dome shaped lid unveils a beautiful prime rib roast, just waiting to be sliced. The server knows just how to plate it, some au jus is drizzled on and then served. The prime rib was perfect. Just the right amount of fat on the edges, prepared medium rare. It was a beauty. (Comes with a side of super creamy mashed potatoes and an even creamier whipped horseradish). That was heavenly as well. Other must try items, for starters, the balloon sesame lavash. It was very hot to the touch (be careful when ready to pull it apart to eat). It was like a thin flatbread but presented in this balloon shape. A hint of olive oil flavor paired with the sesame seeds and the carrot tahini spread - it was divine. Another appetizer I had was the Hokkaido scallop. I could never resist the raw bar if scallops are on the menu. Presented with daikon, chive oil, serrano chili and yuzu. Chef's Kiss. It was a beautifully balanced dish both in texture and flavor. My friend had the barbequed prawns for his appetizer. Goodness, the size of the plate and the prawns! It looked like a full entree. They were served over grits, New Orleans style. I couldn't try it due to my shrimp allergy but I can tell it did not disappoint. My friend thoroughly enjoyed his meal and he normally doesn't order any seafood that he needs to "work" with so minus removing the prawns head, it was worth the work. It was quite the sizeable appetizer and delicious I'm told. Another entree we must mention, the Iberico pork chop. I mean, what's there to say besides the name. It was a must try just because. Served with ginger cabbage and mushrooms, house bacon and a smoke pork sauce. What's not to love? The pork and mushrooms were excellent (I asked to try some). So juicy and so tender. My dining companion was celebrating his birthday so you know we had to order some dessert. Truth be told we were both quite content with our meals and our stomachs were at capacity. Between the food, before dinner cocktails, and wine throughout - I couldn't really eat another bite. In the spirit of his birthday, we chose something we could share. The ricotta beignets were delightful. Very light and airy with lemon curd. Surprisingly (and thankfully) they were not coated with powdered sugar. The cinnamon and vanilla sugar worked better as a topping. To our surprise, our server presented my friend with a complimentary slice of cake as well when she brought our dessert. Candle and all. It was nicely plated too. I believe the cake was the cloud cake (which is a strawberry layer cake). That was such a pleasant surprise - so sweet of the server to do that. She must've seen or heard me present him with the Birthday card and gift. Fun fact, if you order the bananas foster dessert, that is served on a cart as well! It is flambeed tableside too. The overall dining experience Monterey provides makes this place so welcoming. It's so lively and fun. Did I mention great for socializing? Even if you're not looking to dine here, drinks at the bar is reason enough to pay a visit. The bar counter and seating area is a whole scene by itself. There's pop music playing overhead throughout the restaurant , I think it sets the mood for a great night on the town. I highly recommend and look forward to returning.

Yelp
The venue is fantastic. It's a great vibe, very bright and colorful. I love the ample space both vertical and between tables; so different from most NY restaurants that are jamming in as much as they can into tight spaces. Service was also great, our server was very friendly and the food came out incredibly quickly. I got shakshuka and found it just OK, I've had better. It wasn't well seasoned enough and without a ton of toast it just came with a fork. Really hard to eat liquidy shakshuka with just a fork... I'd come back but get something else.

Yelp
I come here very often because it's very close to work and the ambience is great; nice high ceilings, nice decor, low mood lighting, and lots of seating. Usually get just drinks but have also gotten the food which has been very solid. Service takes a bit longer though because it does get quite busy later in the evening, but usually at 5-6pm it's not too busy!

Yelp
Called for walk in on a Tuesday at noon, got reservation for 1:15pm Food was excellent overall, would get the scallops, duck & goat ragout, broccolini & chocolate tart again. Wouldnt get the tuna tartare again, it was good but the uni threw me off. I would have preferred without it. Service was also good but similar to other reviews, can be slightly overbearing, bringing it down one notch would be perfect. Had the doors to the outside open, really open and large space overall, hard to find such in nyc. Relaxed & upscale vibe.

Yelp
Came in for a work lunch on a Friday. The place was pretty empty, but for some reason, service took forever. We sat at the table we were seated at for a good 30 minutes before someone decided to finally come over to take our order. Besides that, the food is pretty good. I got the French Dip Sandwich ($27) which I enjoyed. It was a bit messy to consume if you consistently dunk the sandwich in the dipping sauce they provide.

Yelp
4.5 to be exact. We came for their weekend prime rib dinner. The place inside was quite roomy. Caesar salad as appetizer was nice, fresh and big. Prime rib was really the showstopper. They carved at table side. It was melt in mouth and seasoned well. We asked for med rare like we like our steaks. The center was a bit too raw. Could probably do medium next time. Forgot to mention their signature onion bread. It was fluffy, moist and flavorful, but a bit steep for $18. Desserts were the least memorable part of the meal. I would be back for more prime rib lol.

Yelp
Walked by many times on my way to work and finally had the chance to drop in and enjoy lunch. As soon as you walk in, you can tell this place is trendy and new; the space is beautiful - aesthetically pleasing with accents of gold. Started off our meal with a drink: coffee and a carrot juice (mocktail). Take note, free refills for coffee and alternate milk options are available. The carrot juice mocktail was well concocted - was tart (lemon or lime) and ginger-y. We ordered three things to share: comte & onion bread, chopped salad, and the french dip sandwich. DO NOT SKIP on the comte & onion bread. Although it is pricey ($18), it was the best thing we ordered - warm, pillow-y, garlic-y and onion-y, and cheesy. Paired wonderfully with the creme fraiche (and chives). The french dip was perfect to share. Stacked with enough beef and a generous portion of fries. The paired au jus was not necessary - the sandwich was juicy and moist. However, the au jus did give extra bit of flavor. The chopped salad was nothing special - just some greens to balance out the meal. All in all, beautiful spot with an amazing comte & onion bread. I would come again to order the bread and try out their cocktails & prime rib.

Yelp
Great all around restaurant. Would strongly recommend to anyone looking for a fancier place in the heart of midtown. Definitely caters to a business crowd, but still good for family or date dining. Servers were very polite and knowledgeable. There were also a lot. We had a table of 8 and it seemed like we had 3 waiters/servers. Interior lighting was great. Warm yellows everywhere. While it was lit at night, it was not too bright. On Friday and Saturday night they have a very good prime rib special - $65 for Caesar salad, prime rib, mash potatoes, broccoli rabe, and dessert. Very good value. I ordered this and was delighted. It is carved on a tableside cart. The rest of the table ordered the following: Comte bread - amazing with the chive butter Lavash - I didn't love this but others did. Not a huge lavash fan Another Caesar - came with anchovies Strip steak - very meaty and good quality but needed a little more flavor Monkfish - excellent but small. Amazing flavor Pork chop - excellently prepared BBQ Prawns - prawns were a little small. Flavor was very good tho. Quite saucey. Would go great with additional bread or toast Pan roasted salmon - I didn't try it, but people said it was good Crispy artichokes - insanely good Chocolate soufflé - very good. Not super rich. Could use a little more sugar Cloud cake - eh wouldn't order again Fries - perfect I ordered a vesper that was amazing. Unfortunately quite small tho. Wines were excellent and not egregiously priced for a midtown high class steakhouse. Would definitely come back. Loved it

Yelp
Wow! Wow! Wow! I was searching for a new spot. Unique decor and food, a real "nyc vibe" and experience for my birthday this year. Well Monterey did not disappoint. The retro art deco decor was beautiful, stylish, sleek but inviting. The commitment to the decor also went as far as the bathroom which was super cool. The food was exquisite - carefully plated and a fantasy of flavors for the palette. Appetizers were fresh, well seasoned - I might have to go back for just the Madai. My husband got the tuna and liked it. I got the squid ink pasta - delicious, a little spicy, minty and fresh, very interesting. The cocktails were equally great and complex in flavor. The service was slow but it did go with the vibe, a time where life was slower and people talked to each-other and was not being rushed out.

Yelp
10 out of 10 absolutely fantastic! We have had some great meals in the last year but honestly I think this one was the best. We started with the shrimp cocktail and tuna tartare which were both fresh and perfect. Baby girl had the kids pasta with butter and cheese and it was so good that was better than most restaurants signature pasta dish, she loved it. I had the fillet medium rare and the Caesar salad with white Anchovy and the Mrs had the Japanese Eggplant. The Caesar with the white anchovy was fresh and excellent. The fillet was cooked absolutely perfectly, melt in your mouth with a Bordelaise sauce that was simply divine. The Japanese eggplant was so tender and flavorful served with the most delicious mushrooms we have had in ages. The cocktails were as good as the food... basil Hayden paper plane, espresso martini and cosmopolitan. And the best was last with the chocolate soufflé and the dessert of the year, a rhum baba that was sooo light with one of the best homemade whip cream you can find. I highly recommend giving Monterey a try. You won't be disappointed but you might eat a bit too much. It's worth it!!
google avatar

Jesan A.

Yelp
Really cool spot with phenomenal service! They had AMAZING cocktails, from their iconic spicy margarita to their XXX (passionfruit martini). The food was sensational--I had the filet mignon and tried a variety of their appetizers, including the artichokes, shrimp and salad. I highly recommend that you come check this place out for drinks, or for a dinner vibe.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to eat with such a classy New York ambiance! The service is outstanding, the food quality is up to par, and there are big portions for salad with excellent presentation! The desserts are also perfectly presented and tasty - not too sweet and decadent. Definitely a great place a hot spot to book event space as well as brunch/dinner with friends, or a corporate lunch. Will most definitely return!
google avatar

Vanessa D.

Yelp
Visited this place on my birthday while visiting NYC and it did not disappoint. I loved the ambiance and the server was really attentive. We got the prime rib special which the wheeled out and sliced at the table which was fun. We also got the pork chop and that was incredible too. Only thing for 4 stars is when my boyfriend told the server it was my birthday she mentioned they don't do anything special for bdays???? Would have been a nice touch to end the dinner.

Yelp
This review's a little overdue, because I came here for restaurant week, but they definitely deserve some kinds words. The service was very warm and welcoming, and the portions were very large, and the food was good. They were very accommodating to my pesky (but actual) allergy, which I very much appreciate, and I caught a glimpse of their special Friday night and Saturday night Prime Rib Prix Fixe Menu as well as a couple tables around me ordering it, it looked amazing, I can't wait to return to try it!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here twice in two weeks and the food was just exceptional each time. Their seafood and raw bar offers are so fresh and beautifully presented. No visit is complete without an order of the comté and onion bread with the chive crême fraîche. The bread comes out like a bouquet wrapped in a napkin. Every roll you pull apart has the same amazing texture - crunchy oniony exterior, and pillowy soft (like Japanese milk bread) interior. The service is attentive and helpful both times I've been here. If you have a good friend, go in on the Monterey Plateau together. It's a generous variety for fresh clams, shellfish, and tuna tartar. I was even impressed how half a lobster could still feel like more lobster than I expected. The Citrus Spritz is a really light complimentary cocktail to the hearty meal. The space is really ace with that art deco, millennial appeal but really does make you feel like you're in for a treat and feels like a super fancy dinner. Why isn't this a five star review? If they can improve on anything, it's not the food, service or ambiance but there were fruit flies around in the main dining area. It can really you out of an otherwise 10/10 on aesthetics. The bathroom was not particularly well stocked both times I've been there and compared to the decor of the dining and bar areas, seemed a bit like an afterthought.

Yelp
I came here for 2023 restaurant week dinner last Friday after being told to leave the office because I worked too many hours. This spot used to be Maloney and Porcelli Steakhouse. The restaurant has a vibe of being on Miami Vice. We ended up eating dinner in the bar because we started out with happy hour. Dinner menu did not start until 5 pm on the dot. My friend and I started out with red and white wine, respectively for happy hour. For the restaurant week menu, we ordered the shrimp cocktail and fried artichokes. My friend enjoyed the shrimp cocktail, and I loved the fried artichokes. For the main Entree, we ordered the Iberico pork chop and porcini lasagna. The pork chop was huge and my friend took it home for her lunch the next day and it tasted very good. I devoured the porcini lasagna, which to me was not a traditional lasagna. I ordered the lasagna because I saw truffle cream sauce, and I just have to get it. Rather, it was fit for a person in keto. For dessert, we both ordered the cloud cake, and it was light, refreshing, and yummy. I'll definitely be returning for the prime rib prix fixe and happy hour menus.

Yelp
I don't understand why this place does not have more reviews. It was jammed packed on a Tuesday night. Service was phenomenal. Decor is weird. 60s vibe for sure. Mixed group of people in terms of age. Had the dry aged porterhouse which was very juicy. Had the cauliflower and broccoli rabe side to it both great. The Foie gras was fantastic. The Comte bread was fantastic. The beef tartare was nothing special. I would love to come back and try more dishes. The menu has a lot of fantastic options! Sorry for the very poor pictures. I was in a hurry.
google avatar

Dania J.

Yelp
Came here for dinner as a party of 4 for Saturday evening. I absolutely loved the ambiance of this place. It was modern, contemporary and reminded me of a restaurant I would find in Miami. The drinks were on point. I had the XXX 20th and I loved it. For food, I had the salmon which was seasoned pretty well. The cauliflower gratin for my side was absolutely wonderful. So much so that I forgot to take a pic! I was slightly disappointed with the 30 day dry aged steak. I stole a few bites from my boyfriend's plate and I thought it could have had more flavor to it. The bananas foster for dessert was definitely a highlight, including how it is prepared and flambeed right in front of you!

Yelp
Great ambience, service and food. House martini was amazing. Really enjoyed our dinner here.

Yelp
Work dinner for 7 people. We were seated quickly enough with reservations, but service felt very slow from beginning to end. Overall, as a steakhouse-ish, I think it's average at best. I feel like I've been to way better places tbh. We started with the Comte bread, which was delicious - think of a monkey style pull apart bread in swirls, served with lots of crème fraiche style butter. It was fine in seconds. Oysters were okay, super tiny and not Uber flavorful, they also didn't serve it with the traditional mignonette, which felt disappointing. The tuna tartare was pretty delicious, the heirloom tomatoes were again - bland and disappointing. The crispy artichokes were greasy and nothing to write home about. They did have silver oaks wine for us, which was a plus. I got the primavera pasta, which was slightly underdone and tasted average. It isn't a dish I will remember or think again about. Pretty much everyone else at the table had the tenderloin. The meat itself was nothing to write home about, but the bordelaise sauce it came with was amazing and should be bottled and sold at stores. It had the perfect oniony umami taste and you could eat it on a sock lol. The table side bananas Foster was a pretty big disaster and I don't recommend it, fancy as it was. The sorbet trio was pretty sad - couldn't discern any flavors at all. The soufflé was a big hit and I would come back here just for that. Came with a grand marnier based sauce and it was pretty tasty. Overall, average - not something I'd waste a meal in NYC again for.

Yelp
Such a great experience here tonight. We had the Comte and onion bread, chopped salad, steak frites, and cloud cake. Everything was delicious, the space is beautiful, and the service perfect. We'll definitely be returning.
google avatar

Doug A.

Yelp
The most amazing food and excellent service. We've had some amazing food on our trip but this is definitely at the top of the list! The oysters were great and the prime rib was amazing. Also the cloud cake was wonderful. The ambiance is very hip and modern but also very nice that the music isn't too loud. Would definitely recommend
google avatar

Debby C.

Yelp
While I give good praise for the service here, the food was quite unimpressive. I ordered the steak frites, rare/medium rare (as long as still red). The initial plate delivered was very well done. There was no bearnaise sauce, and I asked three times for it before I even saw how well done the steak was. I got salt, pepper, ketchup, dijonnaise, and a steak sauce in response to my inquiry about the missing bearnaise (and no bearnaise) Finally, I tried the steak and ack! It was like shoe leather. They kindly and swiftly took it back to the kitchen. A new plate arrived a reasonable time later, this time with the elusive bearnaise sauce. Fries were fresh, crispy and hot! Unfortunately, while the steak was cooked as I requested, the cut was so chewy, I couldn't enjoy much of it. Five stars for service, but I would not go back for the food.
google avatar

Peter V.

Yelp
Very disappointing. We ate lunch hoping for a good upscale option east of 5th ave. Just not many options on Park and Madison. Food was subpar. Hangar steak was like chewing gum and the chicken sandwich was nasty. Fries were frozen. French dip was pretty good. Service was overbearing and too all over us. Place is pretty.

Joe F.

Yelp
Amazing food and atmosphere 1960s vibes with modern mix to the interior which was awesome Food was very good and convenient for business lunch
google avatar

Alice K.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of trying out this charming place for lunch, and it did not disappoint. The interior exudes an inviting ambiance, ideal for both romantic date nights and lively girls' brunches. To kick off our meal, we ordered a cup of hot coffee accompanied by almond milk, as well as a refreshing sage carrot juice. For our appetizers, we opted for the comte & onion bread and a chopped salad, followed by French dip for our main course. Without a doubt, the standout dish was the Comte & onion bread, served with a delightful scallion cream on the side. Overall, our experience was wonderful, and I can't wait to return, perhaps for a cozy dinner next time.

Yelp
We enjoyed the food, wine, ambiance, and service. Our only negative was the amount of time it took to order dessert and get the check. It took so long that we decided to skip dessert entirely. We almost missed our show. Everything else came out in a reasonable amount of time and cooked to perfection. Our server was very attentive most of the meal. We ordered the Fois Gras Torchon and Prime Rib from the cart. Both were exquisite, but the prime rib was the highlight of the evening. We will definitely come back.

Yelp
Went for a holiday party and really liked the cocktails and apps we ordered. Nice ambience, good decor and service. Overall, it was nice to experience.

Yelp
Day and time : Wednesday at 5:30pm Met up with a friend who works across the street for a drink . When I walked it , it was quite busy full of business crowd which dissipated around 6:30pm . Sat at the bar and was taken care of by an attentive female bartender. Didn't get to try the food ( just the fries ) as we were here for a drink but heard it's a meat place and is good hence I'll be back to try the food . Met some people at the bar who mentioned that it used to be a steak house . I couldn't envision it being a steak house as post the renovation, it's not a typical steakhouse or what one would imagine it to be . Rather , it's modern and trendy ( avra feel but not as crowded )

Yelp
The ambiance and decor are beautiful at Monterey. The service was very good as well. The food was very good. I had the Branzino. Portions were small but it was cooked perfectly through. My guests had Ceasar salad with salmon. They liked it. I would come back and eat at the bar. It's beautiful.

Sarah B.

Yelp
I must start with the decor, because when you walk in the open storefront the decor is beautiful! Retro mid century vibes and a funky floor plan layout. Really fun but classy. Second, the food was AMAZING. The highlights for me were the truffle lasagna, which was rich, but light at the same time?! Lol idk how that makes sense, but it does to me, because it's a small portion of lasagna that 4 ppl shared as a small pasta course. It also had crispy edges that I love for lasagna! The other highlight was the prime rib service...wow. The way they come around to your table and ask you what cut you want, and slice it right there and dress it with au jus is heavenly if you're a prime rib fan! One of the best prime ribs I've had in the city, and I've tried them all...The Grill, Keens, 4 Charles...you name it, Monterey's was perfection! The cloud cake and bananas foster flambé were also really nice finishes to a perfect meal. Lastly, the one con...our drinks were delicious and the martini cart was a fun, nice touch...but every drink came out very delayed, and twice our drinks I think were actually forgotten about and the floor manager ended up serving me himself because the waitress forgot. It didn't even seem packed for a Sat night at prime time, so it's kind of curious as to why the drink service was super slow. And a request to switch out for a different brand of vodka was declined because the waitress said the cocktail is pre-mixed...with the alcohol already. That to me, seems odd for a classy place to premix a batch of cocktails with the alcohol already in it. But also, if the bartender wasn't slammed and if you have all the ingredients, I don't see why the bartender couldn't have made it, with a different brand of alcohol which my friend preferred. The bar seats were practically empty, and the dining floor didn't seem all that busy, because a few tables were empty and the top section was also empty. Anyway, overall, the atmosphere, vibes, and food were top notch, but the slow and forgetful service for the drinks is what brought down my review a notch.

Yelp
Went here for drinks a while ago and met like three ppl that worked there that said they were one of the managers. I found out yesterday none of them were so I am not sure if I was drunk that night or if it was a joke that I didn't get. Regardless, I was annoying with this place yesterday. I called three times to change my reservations because ppl fell in and out. Then, we were thirty minutes late and lost our seat. I tried asking to get the table back, but nope.. not their fault.. We did get a table by the bar that was perfect for four. I want to give a shout out to my fellow Yelpers btw. Spot on with the recs of food. We got the crispy artichokes and wow! Was to die for. We got two plates so that the guys that showed up later were able to try. I got the spaghetti which was crab, uni, and chive butter. If you hate onions and scallions like I do. Trust me, the chive butter is not going to be an issue. Just trust. So delicious. The best uni pasta is still basta pasta, but this one is very strong second. Very fresh! $42 is a bit steep in my opinion since you don't get much crab or uni, but I'd still get it again. (on someone else's dime) Two of my senior managers got the bass and they said it was good. I didn't have it so not much to say. My other senior manager got another pasta which looked good as well. I was very pleased with the conclusion of this place. I must say that this place is one of my fave spots around the office. I guarantee this will be my go-to place for work lunch. Wonder if they have a punch card.

Yelp
Went here for my wife's birthday and wow! The raw bar madai and honey nut squash with stracciatella were both great to start, as was the seafood squid ink pasta she had for an entree and my grilled tuna. But the service and showmanship are even better. We saw one of the waiters prepare homemade martinis from a cart and explain all different kinds of liquor choices to the guests. Then he took another cart and sliced prime rib with au jus. Oh and still another cart to flambé bananas foster! All really cool and you could tell he loved the job. Good ambiance too with the art deco design, albeit a little noisy. Pricey but really nice. Will definitely go back for another special occasion.

Yelp
Really lovely spot in an area sorely lacking for after work spots with ambiance! The food was good, not terribly memorable, but the vermouth service was definitely worth coming back for and the decor is luxe! Great place for a work lunch or dinner, or a fancy dinner out if you're visiting and staying in Midtown.

Yelp
We just had an absolutely absurd experience that does not make economic sense! My husband ordered the $75 prime rib which comes with potatoes. I don't eat potatoes, so I asked if they could substitute with anything else. They proposed french fries! When I pointed out that those were potatoes, they mentioned that I could order a side. I told him I didn't want to waste food and didn't want large side and was hoping they could just give me whatever amount they thought was appropriate of any vegetable other than the potatoes. The chef said no. So I talked with the manager and pointed out that I would be downgrading from the $75 prime rib to the $35 fish which didn't come with potatoes since they could not accommodate a simple request to provide a vegetable that I can actually eat. And the manager didn't care. So we ordered the fish, the restaurant got 40 less dollars and this review, and we are not returning.

Yelp
Atrocious, absolutely horrendous. The portions are TINY. The food was subpar. Service was below average & the prices are ridiculous. -The beef tartare tasted as if it were made for an animal (and I do not ever disrespect food in that manner) -The scallop was nearly invisible & tasteless -The crispy lobster had legit one piece of actual lobster and everything else was just tempura balls and sauce -best thing I ate was the cinnamon donut. Not pictured: -sesame lavash was great but $14 for a piece of lavash is INSANE -comte & onion bread was OK, it was hot on the outside but the inside & middle was not warmed through (not too fresh) -porcini lasagna: absolute trash. It was served cold. (At least make the impression that you are serving freshly prepared food) Our entire order came out within 5 minutes of ordering. That is INSANE. Clearly, the hot food was just reheated and let me say, not properly because the "hot" food was cold. Our drinks took longer to come out than the food. Would not recommend. Bill ended up being $400 and came out hungry & disappointed.

Yelp
We came here for dinner and loved our meal. We pretty much tried a little bit of everything. We started with the martini bar which was very cool. They come over to you and explain all of the different spirits and garnishes and then create a personalized cocktail or traditional one. It's fun to experience once but not sure how many people keep getting it. We then had the following: -onion bread & Comte: this was amazing and you should 100% get it -fried artichokes: these were amazing. They didn't have breading which was perfect since they were light and crispy. The aioli was also amazing that came with it -the circle salad: this was like a wedge salad with blue cheese and bacon. It was good, but wish the bacon was thick cut bacon like they have at steakhouses -mushroom lasagna: this was very good, but very rich -prime rib: my husband loved this. It was perfectly cooked and tender -cauliflower side: good, but not amazing -banana foster: this desert was amazing and more than enough for 2 people Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant

Yelp
Best food in midtown. Cannot wait to eat there again. Excellent service. Try the fresh oysters.

Yelp
Monterey is the new restaurant in the old Maloney & Porcelli space. With Chef James Tracey in charge of the kitchen you know that the food will be amazing. The restaurant is opulent and makes you feel like a high roller out for a night on the town. With everything from martini carts to grand marnier soufflés, you are in for a special treat.

Yelp
Super happy I got to make it to the grand opening! Service was outstanding our waiter Alejandro was super attentive and helpful. The XXX 20th cocktail was so good!! On the sweeter side which I liked and the rose champagne ice ball made it a fun drink Food was all amazing, came out so fast. The chicken was a little surprising bc didn't expect its foot to come with the dish lol. The chicken reminded me of hainan chicken but with a deliciously crispy skin. Spaghetti was cooked perfectly al dente and had plenty of uni and crab in it. For dessert, we really wanted to try the banana foster bc came with table side service but we were too full so opted for a slice of cloud cake instead. It was not too sweet and very light and fluffy, just like a cloud! Loved every bite of that cake, if I could I would buy a whole cake!! Overall lovely experience, highly recommend!!

Yelp
Did not enjoy my time here at all ... It was my first time at this restaurant .. Manager that goes by the name of Florin was very nonchalant and rude about a concern I had about an Allergic reaction my sister caught while eating a dish there ! He told me "well Mam hopefully your next visit is better and walked away ".. Please be more selective on who you make managers or supervisors these people have no empathy for customers .

Yelp
What an incredible dining experience!!! A new gem in midtown manhattan. I loved the table side perks like the martini cart, prime rib cart and bananas foster cart. Amazing service, great drinks and delicious food. Come here if you are visiting the tree this holiday season.

Yelp
Stubborn, unaccommodating policy lost them a future good customer. My father has a law firm two blocks from here. He and 7 other people from his office went there for a business breakfast. If he had had a good breakfast experience, he would have brought one of his partners there for dinner the next night, and this might have become one of the firm's regular eating spots. Instead, he won't go back and here's why... My dad asked for a simple adjustment to a menu item and they refused to accommodate him. He wanted a Western Omelette and they said "no," so he asked for a simple Bacon Omelette and they said that the chef only makes items as listed on the menu. They make omelettes to order there and have both bacon and eggs, but refused to make a simple bacon omelette. In the end, they gave him plain eggs with bacon on the side. Why did they have to give him a hard time? My father does not have food allergies (he's just a 75 year old guy who likes things the way he likes them), but I do have several dietary restrictions, and one of the factors that we use to rate our restaurant experiences is how kind and accommodating the establishment is. I very rarely can just order menu items as is. I never expect a restaurant to magically have ingredients they don't already have, but to the extent that items are made-to-order, it's really important that they try to be nice about making adjustments. If the management for Monterey reads this, I hope you take a look at your policies and consider that it wouldn't cost the restaurant anything to show a bit more kindness and accommodation to your customers, and you might not lose out on another opportunity to gain some regulars.

Yelp
I enjoyed my birthday dinner because of the service, and food. My server was so tentative and sincere. Unfortunately I forgot his name. He should get a promotion to Captain. Loved the oysters but the mignonette was wayyy too vinegary. Hope the chef changes the recipe. The bread and tilefish was outstanding! The ambiance was nice with the lighting and candles. It's like having an intimate dinner at the science museum.

Yelp
This place is super swanky - when you walk in, you feel like you just entered on the set of a James Bond movie. It's got that cool retro vibe going on. Now let's get to the food. Honestly, I'm not s big steak guy... so it's gonna take a lot to really sway my opinion. I have been to many steakhouses that left a lasting impact on me. This place however.. did not leave my mind blown. The steak was good. I got the 14oz prime steak and split that with a tuna with a friend (surf and turf style). The tuna was a bit fishy in my opinion. The sides were all good, but not great. Got a few wine bottles among 6 people - managed to rack up quite a hefty bill. 3.8/5

Yelp
Don't get the chicken. First impression off the bat was an out of line, rude, and hostile hostess. I attempted to change the time of my reservation, which hadn't gone through on OT, due to no fault of my own, and instead of being understanding that maybe it was a platform issue, the hostess argued me on the point and then went on to say how accommodating she was to seat us. She said multiples times "no you're listed as a no show so you didn't change it", as if it was a personal offense to her. Shes like 12? Meanwhile, if they bothered to contact people who were late to a reservation, which is pretty standard practice, I would've been able to tell her over the phone we attempted to push our reservation back. No offer to check our coats when we had a small table with big winter coats, had to ask if we could use the coat check. The drinks were decent & the server was nice& attentive. The onion bread was great. The truffle lasagne had an extremely unpleasant smell that radiated through the entire table. The chicken looked like rubber, the skin was molded to the plate, inedible. At the wrap of dinner we attempted to tell the manager that the one hostess was pretty rude and he had an even bigger attitude than the hostess. Not one apology about how we were treated. Honestly not worth the price ? Like it's not even that cute inside.

This is a wonderful place for dinner! We enjoyed the lobster spaghetti and black bass entree. Ambience was fantastic and service was top notch!

Yelp
The ambience here is great. Beautiful restaurant. The servers are polite but the service is super slow. All orders from appetizers to drinks just took forever to be served. The food itself is good but nothing that I will remember next time I'm back to NY.
