"Montesacro is known for its Roman-style pinsa, but brunch offers a chance to see the restaurant’s spin on the Sunday classics and morning cocktails. The eggs Benedict, for instance, features smoked Mozzarella and guanciale, while a fried egg sandwich gets a hit of Pecorino and prosciutto. Diners can imbibe in a bloody mary, a mimosa, or the trendier espresso martini, but other options can be more fun, like the Wake Me Up, which blends coffee Campari, Cocchi Torino, and coconut oil with gin. Meanwhile, there’s the option for antipasti and pasta, alongside pinsa, in case you can’t quit the restaurant’s star dish." - Dianne de Guzman, Lauren Saria

"Pinsa, the pizza-adjacent delight from Italy, is the dish that helped build the Montesacro name in San Francisco, but in its newer outpost in Walnut Creek, the restaurant has a few more dishes to attract diners. There are pasta options such as cacio e pepe, plus heartier dishes like the cast iron lamb chops to sink your teeth into. Meanwhile, the pleasant bar encourages diners to linger, with drinks such as the bergamot gimlet, made with Italicus Bergamot Liqueur, plus other aperitivi." - Dianne de Guzman

"Montesacro is the San Francisco-based Italian restaurant that bills itself as the first to serve Roman-style pinsa in the United States. It has expanded to the East Bay, opening its fourth location in Walnut Creek. The restaurant is known for its Roman-style pinsas made with a blend of soy, rice, and wheat flours sourced from Rome, with a 72-hour rise for airy and crisp textures. The menu includes pinsas named after Roman neighborhoods, pastas, entrees, smaller plates, and a unique cocktail list. The Walnut Creek space has midcentury modern design with vintage touches and also offers weekend brunch." - Lauren Saria

When we arrived around 1 PM, the place was very busy inside and out. The staff approached us immediately and seated us right away where we wanted to sit. We sat outside. Clean, pleasant, and places in the sun and in the shade. I ordered a spritz which was delicious and refreshing. We shared the fettuccine with mushrooms, chili, and garlic. And the vegetarian pizza. The pasta was perfectly cooked and tasted very fresh. The mushrooms were delicious, but we couldn’t taste much garlic or chili. The pizza crust was delicious.! Tender and chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The toppings were onion, red pepper, mushroom, basil, and olives. Unfortunately, it was watery and made the center of the pizza a little soft. But we ate it all because it was still delicious despite falling a little short of our expectation. The server was very pleasant and helpful and very knowledgeable about the menu. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here and would recommend it to others. The next time we come, I will order a different pizza. I tried to capture some of the beautiful mural art on Locust.

Absolutely loved the food and atmosphere at Montesacro Pinseria! Every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The lamb chops were perfectly cooked and incredibly juicy, and the appetizers—especially the roasted cauliflower and crispy bites—were delicious and unique. The bread with olive oil was fresh and fragrant, and paired so well with a glass of rosé. Service was friendly and the vibe was cozy yet modern—perfect for a relaxing dinner. Definitely one of my new favorite spots in Walnut Creek. Highly recommend if you're looking for great food, great wine, and a great evening out!

Drinks are great! The kale is really salty, saltiness is 11/10. Carbonara is good!

Wonderful meal featuring seasonal ingredients and authentic Italian food! Emily, our server, was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. It’s a small place so suggest making a reservation. A great addition to the East Bay food scene!

Google
Incredible, fresh, housemade Italian fair! We absolutely loved discovering Montesacro on a day trip to Walnut Creek for business. A photo online of their gnocchi drew me in and they did not disappoint! As we often do, we started with an appetizer pizza. The woodfired pizza was perfect. We also shared a lintel soup. My partner enjoyed a carbonarra while I had the gnocchi. The gnocchi were the softest, freshest little pillows of pasta I have ever had! Paired with a meaty meat sauce with bolognese flavor. Everything was fresh and delicious. The restaurant was packed, and we were walk-ins. We settled for a seat at the bar where we enjoyed attentive service. Atmosphere is modern and cool. Highly recommend and make a reservation.

Amazing first time! We made a last minute reservation and wanted to try a different restaurant and Wow!. This will be on our rotation. We sat at the bar and the service was excellent. We ordered the Cacio de Pepe and the Carbonara. Very authentic! We will be back! Randy Churchill- The Churchill Team

Google
Italian restaurant with full bar and good selection of pasta, antipasti and pizza! There are indoor and outdoor seatings. Service is responsive and friendly. Food is delicious with varieties. Good for small groups, couples and dates. Where applicable, you may ask to top (fresh) basil on your pizza after bake though 😉. Parking might be a hassle in WC downtown but doable.

Yelp
I visited an Italian restaurant in Walnut Creek last night and was thoroughly impressed by the delicious food and outstanding service. The meal was superb, and I decided to order a gin sour, (not on the menu) which turned out to be exceptional. The only aspect that didn't quite meet my expectations was the pizza; it seemed a bit basic, but it might have been the one we ordered. Nonetheless, it was our first time trying the restaurant, and we'll definitely return. The service was top-notch, and the restaurant was spotlessly clean. It's evident that they use high-quality, fresh ingredients in their dishes.

Yelp
I think this was one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. The dough/crust was so tough, my jaw hurt chewing it. The crust lacked any flavor making it not worth the extra work to chew on it. There was meat on my veggie pizza. Rookie mistake at a price point this high. Whole Foods pizza is better than this. And cheaper. The suppli was mediocre. Go to Che Fico for authentic suppli that is worth the calories, and doesn't have a stick of mozzarella inside like it's a Chili's mozzarella stick. Brussels sprouts were great but not worth the price. I'll never come again and disappointed that SF Chronicle wrote this up in its food blog.

Yelp
Wow, what an incredible dining experience at Montesacro! The food was simply amazing - we devoured the margarita pizza, a variety of pastas, and the pièce de résistance, the tender and flavorful octopus with a zesty lemon sauce. The ambiance was equally impressive, with dim lighting and a cozy atmosphere that made for a perfect date night setting. But what truly made our evening stand out was the exceptional customer service. Our server, Daniel, was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, ensuring that our every need was met with a smile. He even offered pairing suggestions and made sure we had everything we needed. we can't wait to come back and experience it all again!

Yelp
We came here for happy hour & to grab a late lunch one day. It was nice enough to sit outside on the patio, & wasn't overly busy, which was lovely. The staff was very welcoming & attentive as well! The bread basket was brought out first, & it was amazing! Warm, soft bread accompanied with olive oil & rock salt -- perfect combo! We then ordered the Cavolfiori, which is a roasted cauliflower salad with black olives, capers, cherry tomatoes, chili, & herbed breadcrumbs. We also got the Carote, or roasted baby carrots with gremolata & goat cheese. Both incredible! For our entree, we had to try their Cacio E Pepe, which is a delicious pasta dish, made with tonnarelli, pecorino, & black pepper. Simple yet so flavorful! I also ordered a house salad that came with a scrumptious dressing. Overall, we were very pleased with this restaurant & would love to come back again soon!

Yelp
My new favorite Italian restaurant. This is a great date night spot. Love the mood lighting and ambiance. I've had the opportunity to try a number of things on thier menu, but my favorites are the carbonara and the brussel sprouts. They had a special before for a bone-in ribeye steak. It was so good, it's sad that they no longer have it. I wish they would put it on the regular menu. I would definitely come back again!

Yelp
In WC & looking for something a bit different for lunch/dinner? Montesacro is a hidden gem focused on Roman inspired cuisine that we came upon after a weekend farmer's market, and honestly so happy we did! If you're out and about earlier on the weekend, they do have a brunch menu starting at 10a also! We quickly learned that Montesacro is home to a very unique and special Roman inspired menu item, the Pinsa. Pinsa is a Roman style pizza that is "gluten diet friendly", made from GMO-free soy, rice and wheat flours. Oval in shape, we were very impressed trying a variety of pinsas for the first time ~ so crispy and full of flavor, each one plated with its very own pinsa cutter for you to cut & serve yourself/your party! The Montesacro was a huge hit (Rosemary Potato, Artichokes, Lamb Sausage, Buffalo Mozzarella, Chili, $27) and the Margherita. Other highlights were the Supplì al Telefono (Tomato and Smoked Mozzarella Risotto Croquettes) and the classic, Cacio e Pepe pasta. I can't forget the super fun cocktail list ~ the Montesacro Spritz is a nice bubbly companion, filled to the brim! And for the desserts, oh my gosh! A must try is undoubtedly the Pinsa al Pistacchi (Small size Pinsa Stuffed with Sicilian Pistachio Cream) and the Maritozzo con La Panna (Roman Sweet Bun, Whipped Cream). Literally perfection! Can't wait to return to introduce more friends & family to the pinsas and other Roman inspired specialties. Mixed with the super cozy & cute interior and star studded servers who make you feel like family, this spot will give you all the warm, holiday feels! If Walnut Creek isn't exactly next door, Montesacro also has two SF locations, mangia!

Yelp
I was here with some friends for dinner and had a wonderful time and meal. The staff were so fun. They had funny t-shirts on about things that would make Italian waiters mad when customers order things like "marinara on the side". Not sure if that is a regular thing but that was cool. Everything we ordered was excellent and we were scraping the plates. The pizzas were my favorite, they had some unique flavors and great toppings. I usually don't like and eat the crust but the crust on these pizzas was great. Note that parking in this area was a bit of a hassle with some of the conflicting signs.

Yelp
Higher end pizza and Italian food with cool drinks. Wife loved her reduced gluten pizza. I had their carbonara and it wasn't my favorite but still good. Thought the sauce was slightly too salty and I prefer fettuccine type noodles and not tubes.

Yelp
Was excited to learn that Montesacro was coming to Walnut Creek and decided to give them a try for dinner with my wife and another couple. We made a reservation in advance and the table was ready as soon as we arrived. It is a small space but did not feel crowded at all. Our waitress Cinder was so friendly and answered all our questions about the menu and drink options. The have a great selection of cocktails a nice wine selection. Only a couple of beer options but the choices provided plenty of variety. We decided to start with the Brussels sprouts, the risotto croquettes, and the octopus. All three starters were amazing. The octopus was one of the best I tried anywhere. For main courses we had the Carbonara and it was so good. The pasta had the perfect al dente chew and the sauce was rich with the salty bits of guanciale. I can't imagine anything being better than fresh pasta but we also shared two of the pizzas and they are amazing. The pizzas are Roman style and the dough is so light and has the perfect amount of char from the oven. We had the tradtional margherita and the San Lorenzo which comes topped with marinated vegetables and EVOO. Both were amazing. We barely had room for dessert but they have a dessert menu that can't be ignored. We loved the pistachio but I really wanted to try the Pinsa Al pistacchi it looked amazing! I will be back to try more from the menu! Make a reservation and give them a try!

Yelp
Montesacro ... my secret hidden gem. Don't want to give it away but it's always amazing here. Killer cocktails and the food is always get the croquettes and the pinsa- here Guanciale, pecorino, egg- it's like carbonara on a pizza yum!

Nastaran A.

Yelp
Came back for brunch and it was just as good as their dinner. It was perfect patio weather! The food and cocktails continue to be well made and our server was lovey. My only two wishes is that they had some additional brunch cocktails and non-pork meat options for my friend who can't eat pork. Yes, they have steak, but a turkey or chicken sausage would have been a nice option too. Otherwise, this place is great and I'll still continue to come back :)

Yelp
10/10 walked in 25mins before closing. Everyone was very welcoming my boyfriend and I were very well taken care of ! The bartender helped with taking our order and of course made us a delicious drink . He's the first bartender we seen been so helpful with the whole restaurant! The man serving our food was very polite and made sure we had everything and if our food was at our liking! The food is amazing! The only complain is we had no leftovers to bring home

Yelp
Don't make the mistake of calling Montesacro an Italian restaurant. "It's Roman, says our hostess. It matters a great deal. Unlike the pizza and and pasta one might expect at the normal Italian restaurant, they have pinsa and carbonara. What the heck is a pinsa? It's a flat bread with toppings. They take special care of the dough. They don't fling it around like those crazy Neapolitans. The Roman touch is appreciated. The amount of denari they charge was not. Carbonara originated in Rome, says our proud server. That was $26. I expect Romans to put bread on the table. That was extra ($5?) and a bit dried out. The pinsas, each enough for one person, start at $20. The heirloom tomato salad, $17. But the three of us were in a good mood. After two rounds of drinks. The designated driver had only one, a Negroni Bianco, made with a clear vermouth. We were able to run the bill to over $200. The memory of Rome that Montessori brought back to us? Pickpockets.

Yelp
The Casalbertone pizza and the pistachio desert were superb. I liked the cauliflower appetizer too. Pastas were very good. Great service. Will be back for a date night.

Yelp
Having been to the SF location, I was excited to see there is now a Walnut Creek location and found it less quirky and the food was just as great. Thought they were incredibly busy, service was excellent and paced just right! We began with some red wine picks before trying a lot of the smaller dishes which were spectacular. We began with the red tomato and ricotta salad which was delicious and fresh, then had octopus which was some of the best I have had anywhere! We then enjoyed the bier scallops which were perfectly cooked and topped with a lemon olive oil. Then we tried their mussels and finally a delicious pizza with peppers, mushrooms and Burrata with a delicious chewy crust. Finally we ended with an unusual but fantastic desert that was incredibly memorable and goes on my list of top 10 desserts anywhere - a Panna Cotta with fennel pollen olive oil! It was a perfectly executed Panna Cotta and the fennel was an unexpected surprise! Cool atmosphere with inside and outside dining, great food and drinks and fantastic service! Cannot wait to return!

Yelp
Our family met here on a hot Friday night for my son's birthday, a party of six. The restaurant is small inside but we had a nice table in the corner for our group; however, the tables are fairly close together if you're concerned about distanced eating. A number of the entrées seemed on the gourmet side to my Midwestern pallet and it took me a while to find some thing I wanted to order. At my son's suggestion, I settled on the Margherita pizza, and my wife chose the carbonara. It took a while for the orders to arrive, but our party had some drinks and appetizers in the meantime (pricey). They serve carafes of water, unusual in this day and age, so you don't have to worry about running out. My pizza was good, although I've had better. My wife liked the pasta in her carbonara, but the bacon was soft and fatty, an off-putting combination. For dessert my wife had the flourless chocolate cake, which tasted a lot better than it sounds. I had the pistachio gelato - excellent - but $15 for gelato is an amazing price. I had dressed expecting a restaurant on the cool side with air conditioning running on high to keep up with the heat. Alas, the restaurant was super hot; some people were eating outside and the door was constantly being opened for servers going in and out. The place was also packed, which didn't help. On the plus side we took our time and were not rushed in any way. Because of the lack of air conditioning on an extremely hot night, prices on the high side, and food that was only good to OK, I can only give this two stars.

Jordan T.

Yelp
Started off a little rocky as even with a reservation, we had quite a wait for a table. However this was understandable as it's a small quaint intimate setting. The staff was extremely accommodating, served us wine as we waited and then were kind enough to comp an appetizer for us. Everyone enjoyed their dish, the data was fresh, polpo well done. While the Cacio e Pepe was good, the Carbonara stole the show! Will be returning again to try more items from the menu, the pizza on the table next to us looked too good !

Stacey H.

Yelp
Last night hubs and I had a nice date night dinner at Montesacro in downtown Walnut Creek! It was bustling with people so a reservation might be a good idea in the future but they were able to seat us pretty quickly without one. They are in the spot where Mint 54 was. They have nice indoor seating and outdoor seating with heaters. Our server was friendly and my husband was able to converse with him a bit in Italian. He helped guide me through wine recommendations and choose between two types of pasta. What we ordered: Suppli al telefono -Tomato Risotto Croquettes, Molten Smoked Mozzarella. Delicious appetizer. Loved the smoky cheese, made it more complex. Montesacro pinsa with lamb sausage, potato, artichokes, Buffalo mozzarella, and Calabrian chili oil. Super light and fluffy. The flavor profile is super unique. Amatriciana - Bucatini, Tomato, Guanciale, Pecorino, Calabrian Chili. Perfectly al dente and authentic. Torta Al Cioccolato - Flourless Chocolate Cake, Vanilla Whipped Cream. Nice a light and a good portion to split. Everything we got was super flavorful and fresh! We definitely recommend!

Yelp
Alert: New neighborhood gem We loved the prior restaurant - 54 Mint - and had eaten at the Montesacro SF location before, so excited to see Montesacro come to Walnut Creek . Ambiance - Nicely decorated, esp liked the small table lamps. The bakery display case was replaced with a nice bar and seating area. Parking - Alway hard esp Locust street. If you are lucky, you will find parking on the street or something by the Honda dealer. If not, then a parking garage is across the street. Service - Exceptional. Our servers are from Italy, and we enjoyed chatting with them. It is always fun to learn about others. Enjoy exploring different red wines together! Umbria next time Food - Calamari - Cast Iron Seared Monterey Calamari, Garlic, Calabrian Chili, Parsley, Breadcrumb. This is not the typical American version you might be familiar with (fried rings), but how Europeans eat their Calamari. Nice plump hoods and tentacles in a great sauce. Pro Tip: Don't leave the sauce in the cast iron pan. Our wait team offered some bread (uses the same Pinsa dough) to soak up the goodness. The bread is delicious. By the way, three different bread types are sticks, bread slices, and bread sliced thin and baked crisp. All were delicious by themselves. Tomato risotto croquettes - if you like risotto and deep-fried things, you should try them. It is filled with smoked mozzarella! Carbonara - Chunks of guanciale with al dente pasta; just lovely Pinsa Monestcaro - Rosemary Crashed Potato, Artichokes, House Lamb Sausage, Buffalo Mozzarella, Calabrian Chili Oil. The lamb sausage has a similar flavor profile as the lamb found in Shwarma. If you like that, then you will love this pinsa. Overall - It is an excellent addition to the Walnut creek food scene. Go for the food, and stay for the excellent service and conversation with your wait staff.

Bill S.

Yelp
Fantastic spot. The Pinsas are amazing and the croquettes are a huge thumbs up. All of the pasta is made in house and the service is fantastic. I can recommend them enough.

Semhar N.

Yelp
So.... mid. It's like what a millennial in LA who's never been to Italy would open on a whim. The atmosphere is simple and minimalistic, but it doesn't have authentic Italian vibes at all, which idk is the aim or not. U kinda don't know what ur there for. My fam and I all ordered different dishes and just felt something was missing. The menu is pretty limited so u would think they've got their specialties down and perfected but it's just so... meh. Reminds me of something college roommates would whip up for a dinner night or something. Not rly worth the price, sorry

Natalee C.

Yelp
Was not a big fan of the food here, honestly. The cacio e pepe came out luke warm and was cold in 2 min, the Margherita pizza was small, bland and overall nothing special and the Brussels sprouts were very average (although good). The atmosphere is cute and it was nice sitting at the bar but overall the vibe was just ok. I'd probably rate this a 2.5 stars but obviously don't have that option (it's not horrible so not a 2 star review but just really not impressed). We left feeling frustrated we paid so much for the overall experience. The service was ok, they were nice enough but interesting vibe is kind of all I'm left with to say - again, nothing to write home about. It didn't give me the warm and fuzzies but also was clean inside and cute enough. The menu selection isn't very impressive to me and even the most basic items like cacio e Pepe and Margherita pizza were sub par and in my opinion, not worth the money. I probably won't come back here for food, maybe a drink, but still wouldn't be top on my list in WC - especially since there are so many other options.

Deeps S.

Yelp
This was such a wonderful place to visit - we came around 5 pm for their happy hour. As vegetarians there werent too many options on the hh menu, but we ordered the Margherita pinseria (which comes cut in 4 pieces) and drinks (wine and cocktail). I thought the hh cocktail list was impressive. For mains, we got the house bread and vegetable pinseria. The vegetable pinseria was delicious - it's vegan so we added buffalo mozzarella which was so refreshing and decadent. The veggies were cured in olive oil, but the food was not too heavy and was great. Overall the restaurant reminds me of a cute pizzeria in Rome - it was interesting to note that each of the pinserias are named after a borough in Italy! Our waiter was attentive and provided good suggestions. Will be coming back soon!!! Loved it!

Alex Y.

Yelp
This is our favorite pizza spot in the area and we've embarrassingly eaten this almost weekly since we discovered it. Please do yourself a favor and order the blistered brussles sprouts, casalbertone, tormarancia, patate, and the suppli al telefono! When we come in, the staff is always thorough and attentive and the ambiance is the cutest. 10/10

Gary F.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Quickly becoming one of my favorite authentic Italian restaurants. Great food, service and ambience. Small and quaint but very very good food. There are quite a few Italian restaurants in the EastBay and this one is up there with the best of them.

Eric B.

Yelp
Montesacro is a small Italian restaurant chain of which we've previously dined at the SF SOMA outpost (prior to a performance of Anastasia at the Golden Gate Theater) There's also one in the SF Marina and in Brooklyn (NY, not Iowa). The style is "working class Roman", without the blue collar pricing. Whereas the SF MOMA Montesacro was relatively large and rustic, the Walnut Creek outpost is on the small side, and probably ripe for an expansion into adjoining spaces if they become available. I think there used to be Bakery here (and later Mint 54) and they've done pretty well with the space that they had to work with. Gayle and I made reservations for early evening after a performance at Berkeley Rep with 2 of our friends. We brought our own wine (there is a corkage fee) and we snagged a nice table inside by the window. The place (including outdoor seating) filled up as the evening progressed. Although we were comfortably seated, it was still relatively tight quarters with adjacent conversations pretty easy to hear and/or make style opinions (like one patron who reminded us of an Italian Mafia Princess). We ordered 2 Pinsas which were outstanding in terms of crust and flavor. We felt just as good about the Fish of the Day selection, but were a little less impressed with the risotto. We all thought that the service was interactive, informative, professional, and welcoming. If almost felt that we were being taken care of by a family member. We skipped the dessert and all left the restaurant "happy full". All in all, it was a great night out with friends.

Yelp
Looking for great Italian food in Walnut Creek? Look no further: Montesacro has arrived to bless your tastebuds. A table for two on a hot Saturday evening was accommodated even without a reservation. Our server was polite and efficient and made fantastic wine pairings with our dishes. The cabonara was magnifica, one of the best I've had. The sauce was perfectly creamy and not too heavy/oily, with the right amount of pepper on it. The other dish was the Montesacro pinsa, you got to try the namesake right? FANTASTIC. Buttery potatoes with delicious artichoke and perfect Italian sausage. It was a light and fun alternative to your normal pizza. You got to get it. This is the spot, definitely should be on your date night list.

Bao H.

Yelp
We came here for table of 2 as a walk-in on Friday between 615-630pm and fortunately was able to snag a last 2-person table. Got pretty busy around 7pm. Tried to call for resy but couldn't get thru via phone call. Place is quite small but cozy. Loud music so wouldn't be an ideal spot if you need to have a serious conversation. But it was the kind of vibe we wanted for our Friday evening. Great service! Super friendly and attentive waitresses/waiters. Our table was cleaned off every time another set of food was going to be served (appetizers, main course, dessert). We got the carbonara and amatriciana pasta. Both flavors were fantastic; however, it was too el dente for our taste. I understand that pasta noodles should be a little more el dente but we've had such incredible pasta in Italy and it was definitely not that el dente at all. So it felt like the noodles were a bit undercooked. Prob make a huge difference if it was cooked for maybe just a minute longer. The portion was quite small for the Amatriciana dish but the carbonara seems fair. We also got the Porchetta and Supplì di 'Nduja-- risotto croquettes (not pictured). Porchetta was not what I pictured. It came in strips like bacon just stacked together. Wasn't a fan of it as it just tasted bland but since it has olive oil all over it, that's just the taste I got from it. The croquettes was good but I personally liked the normal kind of potatoes croquettes over these. Me and my fiancé could hardly taste any mozzarella cheese in these croquettes. Lastly we ordered the pistachio pinsa and it was highly recommended by our neighboring table. I'm not a sweets person but I can definitely say, it is incredible and you will not regret getting it. Overall it was still a pleasant experience and I'd come back to try other dishes.

Yelp
My friends and I met for drinks and dinner. We were able to sit outside under a beautiful shade tree and hear the music from the Lesher Center. The food was amazing. We split the Gnocchi with the Oxtail ragu, the Pinsa Maranella, and the Saltimboca. All were fantastic. The service was amazing. Our server was patient, offered his recommendations and suggestions and was very friendly. I highly recommend stopping here for dinner, drinks before a show at the Lesher Center, or a romantic dinner with a special person. I will be back. Say hi if you see me.

Yelp
Raving all about Montesacro! Three of ladies came on a recommendation of a friend and they did not disappoint! Kale salad is refreshing and even if you don't care for Kale, this will delight your taste buds! The next must-have? Croquettes! Just divine! We also sampled the SAN LORENZO 20 Tomato, XVOO Cured Bell Peppers, Zucchini and Eggplant Pinsa. Good, but will try a different one next time because there are so many options. Oh, don't skip the bread basket...very tasty!

Yelp
Had such high hopes for this location as my experience was great in the city. Order was taken 20min after we sat down and food came out an hour later after we arrived. The waiter told me "if you're patient with me, I'll be patient with you"... huh?? I never once complained as it usually doesn't help anyways. The octopus came unappealing as they come. For $17, this was it?? The pizzas were nothing special. Will not be coming back for poor, unapologetic service and mediocre dishes.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were eager to try Montesacro after they closed 54 Mint several months ago to remodel/rebrand. We loved the food, happy hour, and service experience at 54 Mint so we had high hopes for Montesacro. When we arrived, we were greeted and brought to our table reasonably quickly. When we sat down, we noted the updated decor and the newly built wall where there once were large windows that allowed customers to view into the kitchen and bakery. This new construction makes the space feel a lot smaller than before, and not exactly in an "intimate" way. It was very warm inside as well: my girlfriend and I resorted to fanning ourselves with the menus, occasionally wiping the sweat from our brows as we watched other customers and the staff also struggle to keep cool. This was the first properly warm night of the summer, and this weekend is supposed to be 10* warmer... the restaurant faces the afternoon sun so they'd best figure out a way to cool the place off. The food and cocktails we ordered definitely lived up to the expectation of quality and taste, albeit exceptionally pricey! The cocktails started at $17 (!!!) and we were charged $35 for corkage of our bottle of Pinot Noir we brought with us. I was disappointed that, despite charging corkage, our server did not offer to continue pouring our wine despite visiting our table on multiple occasions with empty wine glasses in front of us. I had a clarified Gin cocktail, which was refreshing and smooth. My girlfriend had their "pink drink" which was much on the tart/bitter side. For food, we shared the Porchetta, the Pulpo and their mozzarella/tomato croquettes. The Porchetta was perfect! Ordered the bread and olive oil (not complimentary) which was a nice way to enjoy the thinly sliced roast pork. The pulpo was tasty as well, but $17 for the serving size was spendy. The croquettes were recommended to us by our server, but were disappointing. They didn't come with any sauce and were a fairly bland take on one of our favorite Italian foods, arancini. We also ordered the carbonara and the Tormarancia "pinsa" with hot coppa and basil. Both were passable, though for $23 each, definitely on the pricey side. When we commented to our server how warm it was inside, their response was "I know! I don't know how I'm doing it" without any apology for the discomfort. Out the door, our dinner for two was $185 with two cocktails, corkage, three appetizers, a pasta dish and a small pizza. I'd say "we'll be back" for happy hour, but unfortunately there isn't anything about a deal or value listed there worth revisiting. Really bummed this place has become what it is, it used to be our favorite place downtown to walk to on warm summer evenings.

Yelp
Great service great food awesome selection of amaro . Have you tried this Roman styles food place yet ? Please do . The Pinsa is superb the perfect marriage of crispy and chewy goodness . The service was also good . Parking is street is a bit hard to get but walkable to the nearest parking garage. Hahaha a great way to walk off your dinner or lunch as this place will entice you to try all the food choices they have to offer

Yelp
Had a fabulous first experience at Montesacro! Upon entering, it has a very warm and cozy feel, reminded me of an italian spot youd find in NY. Started with some drinks and the Panna e olio (bread and oil) - bread was warm and drinks were solid! Not Pictured, but we also ordered the rissotto croquettes that were to die for. We went simple and ordered the carbonara and margherita pinsa- carbonara was so creamy and fresh but we were shocked at how perfect the Pina was, absolutely incredible. Both desserts we ordered were very tasty - especially the pistachio gelato, best i've had ever probably. We were served by Enzo, who was extremely kind and made us feel taken care of throughout our meal. Definitely secure a reservation in advance, they get booked up quick, and for good reason! Will surely be back.

Yelp
This is for takeout. We had the mortadella focaccia which was decent, also had a side of crispy potatoes which were alright. We both had pasta for our mains. I had the carbonara and my girlfriend had the pomodoro. The texture was off as was the flavor, odd bitter after taste. Maybe the pizza is better the waiter who brought the order was very polite.

Yelp
Our family enjoyed 54 Mint and wanted to try out this iteration of the restaurant. We ate here this weekend to celebrate a birthday. The table was somehow in the middle of an aisle, with waitstaff and other patrons walking back and forth very close behind the table. Any person that was not petite had to walk sideways to get around the chairs. We had to ask for menus to be brought over and for water to be brought to the table after sitting there for a while. Every server and host passed our table and did not acknowledge us or seem to notice that we didn't have water. The waiter was extremely longwinded and "mansplained" the menu. I would like to hear about specials, but I do not need to hear a lengthy description of every menu item. The food was fine but the service was so mindbogglingly bad for the price that we will not be returning.

Yelp
We got the Cacio e Pepe, house made bread and Polpo. We absolutely loved the bread as it was perfectly crunchy and with the oil and sea salt was a great start but the pasta in my opinion was a bit underwhelming. I would say the best thing we liked was the polpo

Yelp
Saturday evening and Walnut Creek looked like a ghost town...maybe they all went to Halloween Parties. Great opportunity to go back for a second dinner at Montesacro. Authentic Roman cuisine with excellent staff! Had the salad with cacio e pepe sauce, Carbonara which was so rich and yummy and the special Fettuccine al Funghi which was so delicately flavored- but lacked actual mushrooms in the dish. Star of the show was the Pinsa Pistacchi which even the neighboring table asked us about! So crispy and the cream filling is stuff dreams are made of! We had Pinsa (Roman Pizza) the last time we came and that was very good also!

Yelp
Food, Service and Ambiance is amazing. Let's start with the food. So good. We had the Maranella Pinsa and Cacio E Pepe. True Italian fare. The crust is so light and fluffy. The flavors are great. The pasta is house made and the sauce is a mix of pepper and cheese. Our server Enzo was probably one of the best waiter we've experienced in a long time. He was knowledgeable and very gracious. The ambiance is quaint and very well thought out. Simple yet elegant. We had only one hiccup and that was our reservation. We had to wait about a half an hour for our 7 pm reservation, but we had a drink at the bar and really enjoyed the bartender and he created an amazing martini. The drinks are pricey (start at $18 and up ). Food prices are competitive for Walnut Creek. Corkage fee was $35. Can't wait to try more items off the menu soon.

Yelp
My mom and I didn't feel like cooking for Thanksgiving so we decided to order out. She found this restaurant and we thought it looked good, decided to order from here. BEST DECISION EVER. The food we got from this restaurant was extraordinary. The turkey (white meat) was so juicy and tender and full of flavor! Best turkey I ever had. The sides were stellar too. The mash potatoes were so smooth and flavorful! The stuffing had brioche, apples, celery and carrots, which were all cooked to perfection. The croquette was amazing and the green beans were perfect. The dessert was amazing! Truly amazing and not overly sweet. We are definitely coming back here to try their regular menu!

Yelp
The service, food and ambiance is great. Their pastas and sauces are made in house. Overall the entire staff is attentive and outgoing. They use clean and authentic ingredients. We had the the dinner for two. I believe it was a 42oz tomahawk steak. The meat was cooked perfectly to our request. The restaurant is small but overall cozy and cute.

Yelp
Incredible food. There's none better. There was a little too much 'hovering' by wait staff... especially since we were at a party & had arrived very early.

Yelp
This posh little restaurant deserves 10 stars. I'm afraid to even say anything because it's limited seating and can get packed. outdoor seating. Also, their staff is professional, but friendly, and also consistently on point. You'll need reservations for this stylish delightful European style happy hour/dinner venue.

Yelp
The ambiance was really nice for this tiny spot in downtown Walnut Creek. Service was great the food was ok I'd prefer to come here for a glass of wine and maybe an app or two the entrees left much to be desired. If you come expect to pay about $100-125 per person with drinks.

Yelp
Really great Italian, particularly Roman style. If you liked the food when it was 54 Mint, you won't be disappointed with the revamp to Montesacro. Restaurant has a slightly more "Roman"tic vibe now. Darker tones. Bar is still top notch, focused on spirit forward Italian drinks. When your server is named "Enzo", it's always a good sign. Service was definitely as magnificent as a Ferrari.

Yelp
Simply put, a wonderful experience. The authenticity, attention to detail and great service will make you want to return before you even finish the meal. It's welcoming inside, very chic and not stuffy. The food was prepared to perfection, our entire party was very impressed. The authenticity really stood out. The WC restaurant scene has been hit or miss over the last 5 years, but this spot is a definite hit.

Yelp
I'm not familiar with Montesacro. After all, they have 2 other locations in SF, including another in Brooklyn. But when it came to Walnut Creek, I jumped on it. Dimly lit, romantic, cool, nice vibe, nice bar -- I think that's the making for something special. Add to that a wonderful, service-oriented staff in a new, clean restaurant...well, that my friends, is very appetizing. There were 3 of us, and we ordered 2 pizzas and a pasta, and wine. The wine was divine (Montefalco), the pizzas terrific with an amazing crust (Casal Bertone, Maranella), and the pasta was meh. At first, I ordered the Carbonara (I sent back, didn't like the sauce and the pasta was left of al dente), then I ordered a Fungi (better, but mushrooms were very scarce). Pizzas were the winner. Service is a winner. Montesacro, well, a winner.
