"Montmartre, a French bistro, is permanently closing due to the COVID-19 crisis. The restaurant had been a long-running Capitol Hill staple known for dishes like mussels, French onion soup, and duck leg confit. Chef Stephane Lezla decided not to offer takeout or delivery to keep staff safe and realized the numbers didn't make sense to reopen. Montmartre had a 500-bottle wine cellar and a loyal customer base. The venue had been operational since 2001 and underwent renovations in 2012." - Tierney Plumb

A nice cozy restaurant. The French Onion Soup was just ok but the mussels were yummy. My bf got the rock fish which was ok, it's tender, wish the sauce had a bit more flavor, too bland for my taste. However I love the duck breast, cooked to medium exactly how I ordered it and it was perfect together with the sauteed apple. You cannot skip dessert at this place, must get the Floating Island, so soft like a cloud, just look at my photos. Oh! Be sure to order a cup of coffee to go with it. ;)

Read all these reviews, this was the place to be brunching at. We weren't too impressed. The food lacked flavor, it looked great, we dove right in - but the first bite just missed. Hollandaise sauce on my benni was runny, the smoked salmon omelette was also bland. Maybe it was just an off day, or we're picky, but I would try it out if you get a chance. There is so much more to eat - we just didn't have the space to do so.

Nice Bistro restaurant with excellent food. Service was great, food came out fast, staff was ready to recommend favorites. Just an absolute gem of a restaurant. I had the seafood stew and the wife had scallops. I have paid a lot more at other places for much worse food. I highly recommend.

This restaurant is a truly amazing. In the course of a week my family of 5 ate here twice. The first time was great and the second time was mind-blowing. We rented a house a few blocks away and fortunately came early in our trip. Our first dinner was on the patio which was delightful. Service was great and food really good. My son had the lamb which we tried to steer him away from since it was one of the more expensive things on the menu. I had the duck which was equally good. Everything was well paired and balanced with great flavor. It was “simple” French food done really well and it doesn’t hurt that wine is ½ price during the week. The second dinner is the reason I have to write this review. My wife and I both agree it was in one of the top 10 meals we’ve ever had – and I didn’t even have one of the “good” entrees. My wife cooks a very good Bourguignon. It’s a stew but haven’t found a better one out there. My son ordered it (again against my advice since it wouldn’t be better than at home). The Bourguignon here was unbelievably good. It was not a stew but a single piece of meat with kind of a deconstructed stew. The sauce was what really set it apart. My wife had the rabbit which was perfectly done and very unique. I had something good but don’t remember what because of the rabbit Bourguignon. Again, simple food prepared in French fashion, but done perfectly. On the second night we insisted we couldn’t eat desert since we had all but licked our plates. No one listens to me, so the waiter brought out a Floating Island which is what was in the picture. It was so light and delicious that everyone ate it before I could take a picture.

French onion soup, striped bass and marzipan fruit tart were all exceptional. Highly recommend this place.

We had such a wonderful brunch here. The sangria was delicious and the prices were SO reasonable (especially for DC). Its a great spot to grab a bite before hitting the Eastern Market for some shopping. We tried the Croque Madame which was excellent, as well as the pork sandwich which was so unique and recommended by the waiter. The entire table enjoyed the meal. I would definitely come back - delicious classic French food at a good price in a great location.
