Very good authentic Chinese food for the Westside. No, you can't compare with w Monterey Park, San Gabriel, but for the Westside, it's legit. The 4 of us ordered Moo Shu pork (not pictured (it was devoured before I could take a pic), string beans, salty-spicy pork chop, shrimp fried rice and chicken chow mein (crispy noodles.) All yummy. Good luck with parking during lunchtime. You may have to park on the nearby neighborhood streets.

My confident self waltzes right in thinking I'm going to order three dishes because I was hungry. Boy was I wrong. Got the chow fun beef, and it was a generous portion of beef slices on a mountain of flat rice noodles with sprouts. Very delicious. The egg rolls were really good - fresh and crispy! Quiet restaurant, fast service. I'd come back for more.

February 2025 We have become regulars since my first review! It has been a few months since my last review so I thought to write one today. We enjoy coming here for simply tasty Chinese food. The lunch menu prices are a good deal. I really enjoy their Singapore Noodles, so I often order this dish and have leftovers at home. The place is tiny. Parking is on the lot, but also narrow, enter through Bentley. This is a one way parking lot. Service is is prompt, but without a smile. Haha! It is fine. Moon House is for a quick bite to eat and to fill your Chinese food cravings. --------- First time for us to try this place! Nothing fancy, just good food! We came here for lunch during the week. It was pretty crowded, but we were seated immediately in a booth. The place is small, but there is a private dining room, separate from the main dining area for large groups. You would need to call ahead and arrange it first. The lunch specials are a great deal. For $15.95 you get a choice of hot and sour soup or egg drop soup, brown or white rice with one of the several Lunch Special items. We ordered the Orange Peel Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Walnut Shrimp! We also got a nice pot of Jasmine hot tea! Each dish was so flavorful and tasty! I mean, spot on tasty!!! Beautifully presented too. Now we have our favorite Chinese restaurant on the Westside! Check in on Yelp ,and you get 20% off your entire bill! Free parking on the property, enter from Bentley.

Surprisingly delicious! Fish with black bean sauce was spot on! Kong pao was also fantastic! Orange chicken was yum with large chunks of chicken

Super delicious food!! My favourites are honey walnut shrimp and the roast duck! Next favourite would be the fish with spicy black bean. But everything is nice!! The hot and sour soup is also the right amount of spicy and sour!!! The beef is also so soft! It's really big portion also!! I tried something similar in oak tree inn but I think this tastes better!! The portions are bigger too!! The shredded pork with garlic szechuan sauce was too salty for me. And the xiaolongbao's skin was a little thick, not the type that I like. Also, the wonton soup had very fresh prawns but the wonton is mostly flour (I realise US wonton are all like that though).

Delicious Peking duck and congee. Dim sum is acceptable. I think that is the most tasty congee I have tried in over 3 years in North America.The place is not big but good service. And the price is reasonable. There are many different kinds of nice Chinese food, but the dish size is big, so we will try the others next time.

The menu is fairly large and they do have a lot of great options, and overall the food is good however, not great. Los Angeles has a lot of really great Chinese restaurants and this is definitely a good one, but there are other better ones in town. I ordered an iced tea, but received a hot tea, which was fine, because I can go either way. I started with the Har Gow and it actually arrived after my entrée did, but they were good and larger than I was expecting. For my entrée, I chose the Beef and Broccoli and thought it was pretty good however, a bit more expensive than I was expecting for what you get. One of my favorite Chinese restaurants is Chin Chin in West Hollywood, and they charge only a few dollars more for theirs so I felt the pricing here is a bit too high. Overall, I would recommend for a lunch option, especially if you are in the area. It’s not my favorite, but it’s certainly worth trying.

We tried the Peking Duck, and it was flavorful, especially when wrapped into buns with scallion and hoisin sauce. The presentation was lovely. The Beef with Black Bean & Chili Sauce was another tasty dish. The flank steak was tender, and the black bean sauce added a nice kick to the dish. *One great thing to note, if you're a UCLA student, they offer a discount, which is a nice bonus! Moon House is a solid choice for Chinese cuisine, and I'd recommend trying their Peking Duck for a unique culinary experience.

Nothing fancy but the food and portion are yummy and generous. The food comes out fast. The staff are efficient and seem to have worked here for years. We always order a lot so we can take home leftovers!!!! Isn't this what you want in Chinese food? Moon House is located in a strip mall, enter on Bentley from Santa Monica blvd. The parking is free but it is one way only and out.

Another solid deal for westside takeout if you choose their bogo deal! We ordered the bogo chow mein on ubereats and each container was absolutely stuffed with noodles and meat - one container definitely lasts me two meals. This is pretty standard chow mein, nothing mindblowing but well-executed. I appreciated that there was a mix of chicken, beef, and shrimp. They didn't skimp on anything! I would definitely try their other takeout options in the future as well :)

Dinner Friday evening, 9/13/2024 I thought this was a California-type Chinese restaurant. I confused this with Dan Modern Chinese. Anyway, Moon House is a regular Chinese restaurant. Service was basic. The interior was basic. No beer, no alcohol. The food was pretty good. We ordered 3 types of dumplings. I tried the fried one and another type. We also ordered their crispy chow mein Also sauteed string beans And a steamed sole filet

Moon House is always our go to for some delicious Chinese food in the West LA area. We dined in on 1/11/25. We were greeted warmly and got seated right away. We ordered our usual favorites: shrimp lo mein, salt and pepper calamari, salt and pepper pork chop, filet minon beef, won ton noodle soup. Everything tasted fresh and delicious as always. Service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. They were quick to get anything we needed. The staff are always polite and personable. If you're looking for a good Chinese restaurant with authentic food and good service, Moon House is definitely worth the try. They have parking available, clean restrooms and relaxing atmosphere. Our family will always come back as we love the delicious and tasty food they serve.

I think this place is mostly known for their to go, however I had some time in between patients and had a meal there. I don't know if I would drive from SGV just to go here since where I live there's Chinese food everywhere but I think it's a solid spot! The parking lot is small but I didn't have trouble finding parking but it was the middle of the day during lunch time. Food was good, I got a dimsum mixed combo plate of sorts and the spicy fish dish which was excellent

Took care of my craving for dimsum. Nothing fancy but reminded me of an old school chinese restaurant and the service was great.

The good: We were seated promptly. The food arrived promptly and was delicious. The bad: The place has zero atmosphere. Nothing adorns the walls. The lighting is too bright. The waiter had zero personality, was cold, and never checked with us after delivering the food. We also had to flag him down to get the check. And simple requests to customize or add to the dishes were met with a thumbs-down. (Example: I wanted tofu added to my Szechuan Eggplant. No dice. How about, then, putting it on the side? No dice.) It's very rare that an Asian restaurant won't customize a dish to please the diner. I guess they don't want us back.

Expected a little more based on reviews. It wasn't bad but the best aspect was being open late. Took it to go, didn't dine in and ate immediately. Had egg rolls and orange chicken, both good and devoured. The short ribs were eh. Wouldn't order again those personally and the orange chicken was on the pricier side. Again a positive for 2/3 delicious food items, A negative for it being a little costly for the quality . Worth a try but not something I'd go out of the way for. Again the late night food was the reason for the try and it was just so so.

Came in this past weekend looking for traditional dim sum. They have dim sum items on the menu but not where they bring them around on the cart. Oh well blame my wife for not letting me know. We ordered our usual, beef chow fun, salt and pepper calamari, Peking style pork chops, steamed rice. Chow fun was very oily, the Peking style pork chops were good, the calamari was off, not only on taste but crispiness and color - I'd have to pass on those if we ever came back. Service was fine, had to ask for water and they didn't refill our tea pot but hey no big ...it's a Chinese restaurant, I don't go for the service, I go for the food. Maybe we'll try this place again but we usually don't go up to the Westside that much so it'll be awhile.

I love this place, I have to say that the food is very good, but sadly, the Customer Service is not the best but the food is good.

Stopped in for lunch looking for crab rangoons and left with a new lunch spot. It's a great deal on the portions are huge. We ordered the orange chicken and the eggplant and garlic sauce and were not disappointed. I was a little skeptical of eating Chinese food on the west side but didn't feel like driving all the way to 626. The orange chicken is not your average orange chicken. The marinade is amazingly different. The chicken isn't too battered either I would argue it's a little healthier?

Best Chinese food on the west side of LA. Cantonese style bbq pork and spareribs close to the Chinese I grew up with on the East Coast. Staff is friendly and restaurant is clean. Most importantly the rest of the menu is off the charts including their house special beef fillets.

If you're looking for authentic Chinese food in West LA, Moon House would probably be on top of my list. Their menu features almost every authentic Chinese dish that you can think of, including dim sum, Peking duck, fried rice/chow mien/chow fun, soups (egg drop, sweet and sour) and American favorites (orange chicken, walnut shrimp, seafood tofu, etc). The food reminds me more of home-style cooking rather than restaurant level execution, but it does a solid job of fulfilling any craving I may have. Prices are a bit high compared to mom and pop shops in the 626/Bay Area, but it's definitely cheaper than higher end authentic spots like Meizhou Dongpo. They offer both in-person banquet style dining as well as takeout, and have a 20% off discount for students!

Do not trust the business hours of this place. I was told by the other shop next to them that they open and closed whenever they want so you can't trust what Yelp or Google hours say. Uber eats is off too, I wasted time for a pick up order. Call ahead- hopefully they pick up tho Food is average but great for late night eats :) Good luck!

I recently ordered takeout from Moon House Chinese Cuisine, a place I'd been meaning to try for a while, and it didn't disappoint! The Orange chicken was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, while the sautéed broccoli and white rice made for a great pairing. Although the Chinese donut wasn't my favorite, the overall meal was satisfying. Will explore more of their menu in the future most likely.

My family prefers Cantonese food, so I suggested Moon House. I live right down the street from Moon House and had always thought it was one of the best Chinese food options around the area, up until my recent visit with my parents. The parking lot was very full when we arrived, but we managed to snag a spot. The restaurant itself was somewhat busy, still inviting, and still comfortable upon walking in. The servers were also attentive - except they forgot my Thai Tea and we had to remind them again. I think this actually happened the last couple of times I was there too - they always forget my drink lol. The food was still good, but I think their prices increased while their portions decreased since the last time I was there. We ordered the pea pod stems (which I liked a lot), some sort of beef dish, and then a fish dish (per the server's suggestions). I don't even know what they were, but they all came out on these small plates -- the presentation was sort of like cafeteria food and the entree dishes were simply A-OK to us. Nothing special. This was not what I remembered the last time I was there! I kinda wish we ordered something else. I appreciated the server's honesty with my parents though - that the orders that they wanted initially were simply "so-so" at this restaurant. Overall, while I don't think I'll be bringing my parents back here, I'll probably be back whenever I want some Cantonese food.

The west side of Los Angeles is a wasteland for quality authentic Chinese food. Moon House unfortunately continues that trend of restaurants that serve old school Chinese, but for the most part.... Serve mediocre Chinese at high prices. My partner is Chinese, and they were not impressed on the visits to this restaurant. The most recent visit was better with regards to service, but the food is just average. They do offer a lunch menu, and offer it on weekends, which is probably the best reason to come here if you are absolutely craving Chinese food. I won't go into all the details of our recent food, but the shrimp was chewy, as was the pork in our rice dishes. The soup they served with the lunch special was way too thick and tasted more like phlegm. I implore any entrepreneurial Chinese investor to seriously look at opening a Chinese restaurant that offers the same quality and value as the Chinese restaurants in San Francisco and LA in the '90s and 2000s.

On the west side, there aren't many good Chinese restaurants. Although it's in a strip mall that feels a little unsafe, the food was amazing. It ended up becoming my go-to; I even ordered catering for work events from them. I would recommend the Peking Duck, the seafood tofu clay pot, the eggplants, and the honey walnut shrimp! If you live around the area, you might even occasionally get their promo flyers for additional discounts!

Forgot that I'd had this hideous experience here. A friend was ordering food today and it ended up being moon house. Nothing has changed - 3 of 4 dishes straight inedible. Glutinous, slimy tofu, oily, bland chow mein. Hot and sour soup tasteless and gelatinous. Green beans were good. Truly cannot understand all the great reviews. On the upside the service was friendly despite them being overwhelmed for Christmas.

We came on a weekday afternoon without particularly high expectations, the restaurant is pretty small and wasn't too busy, but we were super pleasantly surprised! We thought the prices were a little high at first but realized that the portions were huge. Two lunch entrees were plenty for our party of three and they also came with large bowls of rice and bowls of soup. Flavors were great and very authentic. Overall was very impressed and would love to come again

Cheap eats, but quite decent! At this writing, their HALF PRICE Peking Duck (ends 7/31/23) is drawing a fair amount of customers. For $36 you get a whole duck, sliced table side into nice pieces so you can wrap them in the soft buns with green onions and cilantros, and of course the sweet and savory sauce. This is one of those corner mall mediocre-looking Chinese eateries that foodies tend to avoid. Not much ambiance to speak of. And service sure fits the typical Chinese restaurant's stereotype-- not bad but everyone seems too busy to give you any extra attention .... But if you're the food first type of eaters, then most of these may be overlooked.... We've tried them a few times and even without the duck special they are pretty decent. Most dishes are around $20 and portion size is good. These days it's likely the lowest you'd have to pay in any halfway decent restaurants. Great place to get takeouts! Plenty of free parking in front - which is rare for west LA.

My family took a spontaneous trip down south for my birthday dinner based on reviews on Yelp. I'm so glad we visited. As soon as we walked in, the place was busy, but we were seated right away. They took our order and we probably ordered more than we should have because everything sounded delicious. The duck was my most favorite thing here. I loved everything, but the duck was the best! I would love to come back and have that amazing meal again. I have no complaints at all. Food came out super fast, food was delicious and nice and hot. Service was fantastic. It seems like a family owned business. We didn't interact a whole lot w any of the staff so I can only base our interaction with the fast service. This place seems to be a popular spot because there's a lot of customers coming in and out. The place looked up kept, it wasn't too loud. It looks fairly new and clean inside. Tables were clean and seats were comfortable. There's a back room where they can seat big parties or be in a private area. I highly recommend this for your next visit in the area. Please make sure to get duck!!! Sooo good!

Tasty and reliable! The duck soup was delicious, the dim sum was good not great and the seafood porridge was very nourishing. Went for lunch on a weekend with no wait and no delay in service. Will be back!

A group of us wanted peking duck without driving too far from the Westside, so we tried the one at Moon House. To order the duck, you just need to call a few hours ahead on the day of to let them know so that they can prepare it in time for you. In addition to the duck, we also tried the house fried rice, mapo tofu, orange chicken, and eggplant dish. Overall, the food wasn't the best. The orange chicken tasted off, and everything else was okay. However, there really aren't many Chinese spots with peking duck in the area, so this is probably one of the best options if you don't want to drive far. Service was good. Everything came out quickly and our waitress was friendly and checked on us often.

If you're from the Midwest these cream cheese wontons won't be for you. They weren't that warm and they're a bit delicate. Staff seem efficient and it smelled good though.

Ordered through Door Dash. I got the Garden Chicken and my companion got the Beef and broccoli. Hats off to the dasher as we are at a hotel and he got it to us piping hot. Plentiful, and delicious. Though I was disappointed in the egg roll. The steamed dumplings were tasty too. No complaints on the beef and broccoli either. I'd definitely explore the menu more.

You can't go wrong with Moon House for classic comfort Cantonese cuisine, with all the favorites always available. I especially like their Wanton soup, and crispy egg rolls! I have done pick up and delivery, food is always hot and most of all delicious.

Worst experience! Waited an extra 1.5 hours after the '90 minute' timeframe on Christmas. Christmas dinner ruined and nothing else was open or would have left. Order missing an item and business refused to credit my dish and only offered 20% off next purchase - never going again. Zero respect for customers money or time.

Okay, hear me out. We used to really like this place. The Black Bean Chicken was amazing. I'd even go as far as saying one of the best dishes at one of the best Chinese Restaurants on the Westside. And now this. Ordered from there a month ago. They don't pick their phone, so you figure they've got to be pretty busy. Put my order through online, which is my standard these days. So I get there and the place is basically empty. I get our order and the person helping me isn't overly friendly or customer service oriented. Whatever. I came for my food and want to be out. I get home and the order is incorrect. I should've checked it but once again, whatever. Got two of one dish instead of two of the other one we ordered. Whatever, I'll deal with it; it's my bad. And now this is the part where I start to care. Food tastes good but a tad different than before. One of my family members gets a horrible headache the next day. Mind you, we both had eaten here before, a few years back. On a hunch, she calls the restaurant. The number on the receipt doesn't work. Yelp has a different number, as does their website. She finally gets through and gets the answer she suspected: They still use msg for some sauces/dishes. Done. We avoid msg and there was no way of knowing they used it. Like I said, we have eaten here before, some years ago--no problems or issues back then. I can only surmise that they made a change. And oh ya, it's 2 because someone experienced ill effects afterwards. No msg would put this at a 4/5. It's unfortunate to see Moon House fall. Whatever. Final Word: Done with Moon House and its nasty msg.

12/12/23 Peking Duck special $36 is no longer available. The pictures were on yelp but not removed so a bit misleading. Do not go if you want Peking duck. (I was really sad) Complimentary oolong tea is provided (thank goodness especially on a cold nite). This is more Americanized Chinese food. I wanted duck so ordered Roast Duck w/ noodle soup. The portions are VERY large. The soup had lots of noodles, 2.5 whole pieces of bok choy and (1/4 leg) of roast duck for $19.50+tax+tip. The broth and roast duck was OK not the best but decent. The duck wasn't dry but not as flavorful as Sam Woo (but that would be 1.5 hr drive in traffic). The fortune cookie is good!! Free parking is available but it's shared w/ other take out stores including jamba juice. Restaurant is small. However, a family of 10 for about 4 tables can be accommodated since the tables are large. Service was Great. Very efficient, fast, and customer oriented. They accommodated all my request for sauces including the fortune cookie. Bathroom are segregated by sex (thank goodness) so much cleaner.

Moon House, it is disgusting to find out that they do not use white meat chicken. They are using the back of the chicken instead of white chicken meat. basically, they giving the ass of the chicken it is disgusting

I stopped by here with my family because we were in the area and was craving Chinese food. This is located in a tiny strip mall and parking may be an issue but I would stop by here again because the food is just that good. Not all Chinese restaurants are built the same but their food is just so tasty. We were able to be sat fairly quickly and everyone else seemed to be having a good time. It was quite busy with takeout orders so that made me hopeful that our food would be excellent. We ordered ShuMai, HarGow, shrimp fried rice, and the shaken beef. All of it was perfect. Pricing was fair and the service was attentive. Thank you for serving delicious food.

Food My friends and I went to this place and we were a pretty big group of 10, so I was able to try a bit of what they had to offer. We got an assortment of food like siomai, walnut shrimp fried rice, etc. and I have to say everything was pretty spot on in terms of flavor. I've had a lot of chinese food and this place is definitely up there in terms of taste and authenticity. The highlight is definitely the PEKING DUCK. I love peking duck and when I saw it on the menu for 50% off we had to order it. The duck was cooked to perfection with crispy skin and moist insides. It comes with bao buns, sauces and some herbs and everything just perfectly complemented each other. Service/Ambiance Since we were in a big group we put in a separate room with our own big table. The restaurant itself is pretty small, so I'm glad we reserved our table ahead of time. Despite being in a separate room, the staff were still pretty nice and attentive to us since wait staff usually forget customers if they aren't in the main restaurant. Food arrived in good time and I have really no complaints.

My favorite Chinese place nearby. Never been disappointed. Sometimes get staples like Kung Pao or Mongolian but some of the best dishes are shrimp based I think. I order out mostly.

A go to spot for me on the Westside. Great Chinese take-out with friendly service. Had to pick up a dinner for 9, they make it so easy. Ordered online during the day for a scheduled pickup that evening. Food was ready when arrived, backed up in 3 bags with everything we needed. Everything we got... Chow Mein, Kung Pao Chicken, Beef with Broccoli... was all delicious and we were very happy.

I felt gross eating it, and I feel even grosser afterwards. The chow fun noodles were completely flavorless and I had to wipe all the grease off my lips with each bite. The beef was chewy and rubbery, and the sweet and sour sauce was goopy. My stomach hurts now.

Came here for dinner around 7 p.m. Party of 5 w my friend ALPA, her 2 friends along w my cousin & I 3.15.23 Located in same plaza as Jambi Juice. Service was ok. Not the best. The language barrier could be the difference on service. We did receive our items in a timely manner. The restaurant was a typical Chinese food restaurant. A little bit outdated look w the tables & chairs. Also small. The entrance walkway was a bit narrow too, walking Thru into the restaurant dining area. We were seated right away once we arrived. What we ordered ~ Hot & Sour Soup. Wasn't hot/spicy at all. Good soup, filled w lots of bamboo, elephant ear mushroom. ~ Har Gow. Good w full shrimp. ~ Cream Cheese Wonton. Decent, taste like every Fried cream cheese wonton. ~ Pecking Duck. Really good & not chewy like what ducks meat is. The bum is served in a metal holder that keeps the bun warm & with green onion slices along w somewhat of a hoisin sauce to enjoy it with. ~ Szechuan Shrimp. Really flavorful. Shrimp is huge and it's a big entree. ~ Fish with Black Bean Sauce. Is good for a fish dish. ~ Chicken Fried Rice. Basic fried rice w some chicken pieces. ~Vegetable Chow Mien. Basic also. Great for a carb dish to enjoy with your protein entrees. Everything we got was actually superb. Hot tea was provided in a tea pot. ~Tip ck in on Yelp & receive 20% off your bill.

Only giving one star because zero stars isn't an option. Made a small to go order in person at the restaurant and 25 min later, still hadn't received anything. Patrons who entered after I did and sat down at the restaurant had all been served. Even though I was promised it would be just 5 more minutes (surprising, since the waiter told me 10 minutes earlier he didn't know how long it would be), I cancelled my order. This place is overpriced and has abysmal service -- will never go again (and my family and I have been customers for years, albeit mainly out of convenience).

After seeing that it was over an hour wait at a nearby dumpling place, my group of four decided to give Moon House a try. We had no wait and were seated immediately for Sunday lunch, which was great! My group of four ordered an entire roasted duck with buns, XLB, pan-seared chicken dumpling, fried pork entree (rice and soup included), green bean lunch entree (rice and soup included)... all for $115 WITH tip!! We even had two to-go boxes of food left over. They also had hot tea included. The service was efficient and the facility is clean. The quantity and quality of food for the price is great and I definitely recommend trying Moon House.

Pro tip: check their website to see if they're offering any discounts. UCLA students get 20% off and they usually offer seasonal offers. One of my fav chinese food restaurants in Westwood! Parking is fairly easy to get and there's always walk in tables available. Service isn't the best but that's typical for Chinese restaurants- what is good here is the food. The portions are big and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend: Orange chicken (must have, tender and not heavily breaded with fantastic flavor) Chow mein with beef or chicken (lots of noodles and so tasty and fresh) Salt and pepper fish

The first time I was here, they ran out of ducks. Still, I decided to dine in to see how the foods taste. Is it even worth it to come back again for their Peking ducks? Guess the answer was YES lol I ended up coming back to try their Peking ducks. The Peking ducks was an 8/10. The duck was juicy. I liked the way they sliced the duck. It looked beautiful. That was the main reason why I wanted to try this restaurant in the first place. It sure didn't disappoint. The buns that came with it were good, too. The only part I disliked was the skin. It wasn't as crispy as I hoped for. The food here was pricy, lol. Besides the appetizers, I think everything else was at least $17 plus. However, every item was packed with flavors. If in the area, I for sure will drop by. Don't forget to use the 20% off (dine in only) while it is avail. I didn't know so I couldn't use it the first visit. My friend used it during our 2nd visit. It helped a lot :)

Had the filet mignon French style and Singapore noodles. The filet mignon was very tasty and soft. I would go back just for that! The Singapore noodles were very mild and didn't have too much flavor which complimented the filet dish.

Peking Duck was so good. And they are currently having a promo, the whole size of Peking duck for only $36! Plus 10% discount on top of that! Not only it's delicious, the portion was huge! Good for 4 people and we were so full. Will definitely come back for the Peking duck! You won't find anywhere else with this price and quality!

Really so much better in restaurant than take out ... my friend and I had a late supper and it was delicious. Shrimp in black bean sauce with onion and asparagus was perfectly cooked. And ground chicken seasoned perfectly In lettuce cups was one of the best I have ever tasted... we had a joyous time ... lots of laughter... lots of conversations and lots of yums on many levels. Such a good meal. The prices are not cheap but the quality is worth it! Local and part of my community! Yay times 5!!!

Great lunch menu and very tasty!! Food quality is amazing and good portions, too. Wish we had one of these good Chinese restaurants where I live!
