Moonlight - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"The team behind Guantanamera, a Cuban late night spot in Hell’s Kitchen, have birthed a sibling next door called Moonlight. Grab some zhuzhed-up Cuban classics, like crackling shrimp and seafood jambalayas in the white, marbled space." - Team Infatuation

20-Year-Old Guantanamera Is Getting a Sibling | Eater NY

"Opening this week in Hell’s Kitchen, the new sibling called Moonlight comes from owner Mario Zarate, manager Evelina Klopocka, and chef Marcos Bidart at 772 Ninth Avenue at 51st Street; the menu will feature updated takes on classics such as tuna tartare, crackling shrimp, and jambalaya paella, and there’s no word yet on whether it will adopt Guantanamera’s similar late-night hours." - Melissa McCart

There's a new restaurant in Hell's Kitchen and even though there are so many places to grab a bite in the area, this place really has an amazing vibe about it. The restaurant is classified as New American which is a fusion of multiple cultures, mainly Argentine and Asian with some Polish and much more. (If I'm incorrect, I will edit ☺️). America is a melting pot and it's represented here pretty well. The minute you walk in, you get enveloped in the welcoming energy and relaxing music. Everyone is so friendly and attentive. My server, Jose, was great. He came out to greet me and helped me navigate the menu. Everything looks delicious but I needed an expert opinion because I was torn between the Maple Miso Salmon and the Seafood Linguine. I went with the salmon but am definitely coming back to try the other one when I'm in the area again. Evelina and Marcos, the owners were super sweet and attentive. It's very reassuring when I see restaurant owners on the floor with the guests getting to know everyone and adding to the ambiance. After speaking to both of them, I will absolutely come back again. Service is such a big deal for me and it's not everyday you dine out and feel as warm as I did. I can tell that they treat their staff extremely well. They all look like they authentically enjoy being here. Now let's talk about the food. The Maple Miso Salmon was soooo flavorful. The portion size was perfect and every ingredient complimented the next one. The subtle touch of wasabi was a nice touch. And the 48-hour marinated salmon needed no improvements. 10/10. I'm not typically a fan of bok choy but with this dish, everything just worked. For Dessert, I had the Brulee Basque Cheesecake. If you know me, I love a Creme Brulee and I like cheese cake but putting them together is innovative and I love it. The texture was everything. The ingredients were so fresh and light which is great because the size of the cake was huge. The most satisfying part is cracking the sugar shell on top and getting a bite that is a combination of creamy and crunchy without being too sweet. Another 10/10. This was a pleasant surprise and I can't wait to come here again with more people!

The staff was so sweet and friendly. They sat our surprise party of 8 right away and didn’t seem like they felt inconvenienced by it at all. The food on the menu was a fun unique spin on common American dishes (Wasabi mashed potatoes). The drinks were great! For the price they thankfully were actual high quality craft cocktails. They seemed unbothered (and maybe even amused) by some loud friends in our group lol Me and my friend left our bags there and we ran back and they had all our stuff ready for us safe and sound. Highly recommend! Please go! It seemed it really wasn’t as busy as it should be.

I’ve had the pleasure of dining Moonlight twice — once for dinner and once for brunch—and both visits were fantastic! For brunch, we tried the Fried Chicken & Waffles and the Braised Short Rib Benny—both were delicious. The chicken was crispy and perfectly seasoned, pairing beautifully with the waffles, while the short rib Benny was rich and flavorful, with tender meat and a perfectly poached egg. For dinner, we went with the Steak Volcano and Crackling Shrimps. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the presentation was impressive. The Crackling Shrimps had the perfect balance of crunch and flavor, making them a must-try. The service here is excellent, and Jose in particular stood out—friendly, attentive, and made sure we had a great experience both times. Whether you’re here for brunch or dinner, you’re in for a treat. Highly recommend!

Had came here for brunch over the weekend and the place itself is so lovely and I felt really comfortable. The food was well presented and we didn't have to wait long at all for our food. I had ordered the Passionista drink and it gave the right amount of punch in flavor and alcohol. Me and my friend shared our dishes. We had the Burrata & Tomato Parmesan small plate, which was good but the arugula could have used a light dressing (maybe just olive oil/lemon/salt/pepper). The chimichurri sauce in the Steak & Eggs was amazing and I really liked the salad in that dish. Also liked the home fries, nicely crisped and not over cooked. For the Breakfast Steak Volcano, I wanted more for the demi-glace sauce bc it just tasted that good. They put a good amount, I'm just being greedy. Also, there was a nice surprise when I cut into the crispy mashed potato cake that wasn't mentioned on the menu. It was like this gooey cheese that gave it more dimension to the texture of the mashed potato cake. We also had dessert and ordered the berry cheesecake which was my favorite!! The cheesecake was surprisingly light and not dense. To top it all off, they bruleed the top of it which blew my mind. The berry compote was nice and not overly sweet. My biggest take away from our dining experience was the service. Our server was Leonardo (hope I got it right). He was absolutely amazing!! He is all ears I tell you bc there were things I didn't direct towards him that he heard and took the initiative to be extremely accommodating. Definitely coming back to try their dinner menu and their skillet chocolate chip cookie dessert that ppl (even the workers) were also raving about.

I had a wonderful dinner with my family at Moonlight in Hell’s Kitchen, and every dish was a delightful surprise. The crackling shrimp came to the table still sizzling with a bright hit of lemon, the jambalaya-style paella was rich and deeply comforting, and the watermelon “tuna” tartare was such a clever, refreshing twist. Between the warm, easygoing service and the cozy, softly lit room, the whole evening felt like we’d found one of the neighborhood’s best-kept secrets.

Gorgeous paella with generous portion of seafood. Best and ever roasted octopus. I do like the harissa, which tastes sweet and refreshing. Jose and his colleagues served us. They are quite professional and gentle. Strongly recommend, this new American restaurant has both great food and elegant servers.

Very nice addition to our block. Food, service, ambiance - all was great when we visited. Interesting takes on the recipes, gentle tastes that come together nicely without overwhelming. It could look a little pricey, but portions are generous and definitely well made, so I'd say well worth it. If you're prone to drafts - ask for a table in the back, farther from the front door. Haven't tried their cocktails yet, soon.

Highly recommend!! The menu is diverse and they highlight several delicious vegan dishes. The service is exceptional, everyone is very polite and accommodating. We got the miso salmon, vegan bolognese, and the smash burger. When we come back, I’m definitely getting the salmon again and will try one of their desserts. It might be pricier than neighboring restaurants, but the portion make it worth it.

Yelp
I stopped in here for a happy hour cocktail and some fries. The restaurant atmosphere was upscale and the staff was friendly. My drink and fries were very nice.

Yelp
Waitstaff and host went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Top notch service and surprisingly upscale food for HK without the downtown price. Beautiful decor classy and bright. Can't wait for my next visit!
