Fantastic ice cream! The lavender and honey was delightful, not too overpowering on either flavor. We had the brownie Sunday, and the first brownie was a little dry/hard, so we went in to notify the employee and they immediately went to check on the brownies, giving us a new one without us asking about it. She had great customer service and treated both families in front of us (with small children) with a smile and patience. I wish the brownie could have been heated up, but regardless it all was delicious.

I walked in and had no idea what to expect... When I tell you this ice cream was absolutely delicious. The staff was friendly and the mint chocolate chip was NOT green, which let me know this shop is not about the artificial flavors and colors and I can appreciate that. Definitely recommend

They’re back in business! Generous triple scoop was very worth powering through on. The peppermint stick flavor is especially nice, liberally sprinkled with candy cane bits

Ice cream is just ok. The whole store has this feeling like no one cares. The display freezers are used to store paper towels and empty boxes. The customer area is dirty and in disrepair. There is nowhere to sit, not that you’d want to linger anyway. I got a shake ($8!) which was full of ice chunks and the straw was so small I couldn’t get one drop through it, I had to go to a different shop to get a better straw. I have come several times hoping they would get their act together but each time it’s actually worse not better.

Google
Inexperienced staff who weren’t too friendly and inviting and seemed confused. Employee gave me a cone with her bare hands, not with gloves. If you’re paying in cash, you need exact change too. Sorbet wasn’t that great either, and the scoops weren’t nicely scooped like we are used to in other ice cream shops. Overall disappointment.

Google
Bottom line - disappointing first experience, but will try again. I love small batch dairy products of all sorts, but premium ice cream is my go-to. I bought three pints to take home: strawberry, coconut & pineapple, and chocolate peanut butter. The strawberry and coconut/pineapple both had a minty aftertaste. I'm thinking a batch of some type of mint was made immediately beforehand and traces of it got in to the next batches. It wasn't overwhelming but definitely noticeable and off-putting. The coconut/pineapple flavor also had the texture of having been thawed and refrozen. Spongey and odd on the top 1/3 or so. Chocolate peanut butter is INTENSE. I love that flavor combo and this one is really good, just barely bordering on too much. I'm thinking it would be great for ice cream sandwiches with cookies that are a bit plain to offset the intensity of the ice cream. Will definitely be back, though - very happy to have a small-scale ice cream place in the neighborhood again. Maybe get a cone next time to see if the "fresh" stuff is better.

Google
Locally owned, Moorenko's is an ice cream shop in Eastern Market with a vast menu of flavors, including dairy-free options. My daughter enjoys the milk chocolate ice cream with marshmallow and sprinkle toppings. They also have a chocolate chip cookie dough option with plenty of dough inside. The ice cream is pricey compared to the place inside nearby Eastern Market, but it is good!

Google
Can't understand the hate. Exceptional ice cream with friendly, fast service. It was late so they were out of a few popular flavors, but that's to be expected near closing time.

Yelp
I had been looking forward to visiting Moorenkos since their reopening and, unfortunately, was very put off by my experience. Value: 1/10 - and this is largely because I was charged incorrectly. I ordered a double, but was charged $10 - which I didn't fully realize until I saw the charge on my card because the employees were talking amongst themselves throughout my visit and didn't inform me of the cost Vibe: 1/10 - this could be a cute spot, especially given its location, but I was very put off when the employee who scooped my ice cream wasn't wearing gloves and basically had their hands in the ice cream. Also the inside of the store smelt like marijuana pretty strongly. Ice cream: 1/10 - I ordered a scoop of banana peanut butter, which was icy and lacking in flavor. The second scoop I ordered was chocolate, meant to be the actual dairy chocolate, but given it's similar iciness and lack of flavor I think I was given a dairy free scoop.

Yelp
There is a rat trap in the main serving area, next to the freezer where you pick pints to take home. My toddler daughter started getting close to the trap, and not knowing if there was a dead rodent inside, we promptly left.

Yelp
Customer service here is top rate. I was encouraged to sample several flavors. Very friendly and attentive staff. I do like their cherry stracciatella -- it's addictive. The vanilla is a bit mild to me; like it more intense. The strawberry is nice and creamy.

Yelp
Such a lovely addition to eastern market and I continue to enjoy visiting them !! I'm consistently impressed with how the young people who work here are systemically courteous kind and patient despite sometimes having lines out the door ! I'm only dropping a star since many of the flavors are too sweet for my personal liking - but the dark bittersweet chocolate is wow !

Yelp
Fabulous ice cream!! Great flavors! Nice staff! What's not to like - just go for it!!l

Yelp
Ice cream was decent. The brownie was outstanding though. They were out of a lot of their cookies and coffee though. No seating there. Good service though.

Yelp
Was looking for something sweet after dinner and stumbled across this place... there was a line because of COVID restrictions which I didn't mind. They let us try samples which I appreciated. I got a scoop of cookie overload and my partner got a banana milkshake with honey lavender ice cream. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
The ice cream is good, I was so glad to know that they use Guittard fair trade chocolate. It wasn't as creamy as trickling springs but I'm looking forward to going back and trying some more flavors

Yelp
Incredible ice cream and service, we are coming back later this afternoon for a couple pints. I also want to acknowledge Christopher and Megan for flawless customer service. While visiting today we witnessed these two employees being berated by a woman who was bound and determined to make a scene. She even cursed Christopher out because her 4 year old son threw a tantrum because the blue ice team he wanted was called cotton candy rather than bubble gum. She threatened that she knows the owner and would have them fired for making her experience more difficult. At no point did either employee raise their voice or change their friendly tone. They deserve a raise just for the chaos they endured in those 15 minutes.

Yelp
I've cream is just okay and some of the employees are less than enthusiastic about their employment. It's really a shame since other ice cream/dessert locations nearby are top notch. Just do yourself a favor and save your calories and keep the positive vibes flowing with some other location.

Yelp
Decent ice cream. Not great flavor or texture. Lots of ice crystals- reminded me of grocery store ice cream. Small portions but reasonably priced. Walk a few more blocks and go to Jeni's instead.

Yelp
If you want to pay top dollar for mediocre ice cream look no further than moorenko's. $7 for a tiny cone barely better than the grocery store

Yelp
I was at Eastern Market recently and saw a new business, Moorenko's Ice Cream. I love sweets and ice cream is definitely one of my favorites. The shop is on the ground floor of a mixed use apartment building, and it is charming. The selections are plentiful but because of Covid, samples aren't offered so I got my standard, a single scoop of butter pecan in a waffle cone. The portion size was nice and the prices aren't bad. The ice cream is promoted as rich and creamy but my experience was not that. My ice cream was not really flavorful or creamy, especially not for a brand that is supposed to be premium. It tasted like a generic brand of vanilla ice cream with a lot of pecan pieces. Perhaps post-Covid, I may return and try a different flavor.

Yelp
This ice cream is definitely underwhelming. I got the cookie overload as a milkshake and was told that it was like cookie dough ice cream, but at the bottom was pieces of something like maybe Oreo filling but didn't taste like cookie dough. Also the straw was the thinnest straw I have probably ever used in my life, so it basically just tasted like a vanilla milkshake until I could get home and get a spoon for the few pieces of cookie at the bottom. The milkshake itself was not very creamy. The employee there also seemed totally out of it. I think if they just didn't purport to be premium ice cream it wouldn't have bothered me as much.

Yelp
As someone who has a lot of severe food allergies, it's nice to know that I have quite a few options of ice cream flavors to choose from that I know are allergen free. Customer service is great, the employees are friendly and the prices are also affordable considering the uniqueness and quality of ice cream you're purchasing. The flavors that I have been able to try, so far, that I highly recommend would have to be Cookie Overload, Butterscotch, Moka Chocolate Chip, and White Chocolate Mint. I would 10 out of 10 recommend the ice cream from here if you're looking to support a local business!

Andres R.

Yelp
Great local choice for ice cream, especially if you aren't a fan of the newer/trendier place up the street. Pints are sold from grab and go refrigerators which make it super easy/safe. The employees have been rather indifferent which makes the experience less inviting but I'll overlook that for some good ice cream!

Mary G.

Yelp
For me, Moorenko's is in a tie with Lapps Family Farm ice cream in Pennsylvania for the best ice cream (and sorbet) I've ever had in places that are currently open for business. Super rich and creamy and sweet but not too sweet. Moorenko's has more flavors to choose from, with interesting and changing varieties. Nothing artificial about any of their flavors. Their scoop portions are smaller than Lapps and their prices are higher, not surprising for DC. Check out the interesting sodas in their refrigerator case.
