"The restaurant is located at 1119 Locust Street, in the space once occupied by More Than Just Ice Cream, an ice cream and dessert shop that closed in September of 2018 after a 43-year run in the area." - Audrey Carleton

"More Than Just Ice Cream is closing at the end of this month after 43 years. Owners Rachelle Capistrano-Sorg and Dalton Castano announced on Facebook the last day for the restaurant at 1119 Locust Street will be September 27. Originally opened on Pine Street in 1975, it relocated to Locust in 1998. Starting out as a dessert shop, the eatery later added lunch, dinner, and brunch, serving American diner-style plates like omelets, burgers, turkey clubs, and grilled cheese sandwiches. It was also known as a neighborhood ice cream destination, with scoops, sundaes, and baked goods, including an oversized “mile high apple pie,” available a la mode." - Rachel Vigoda

This is a nice place to achieve satisfying your sweet tooth. They were very pleasant and a Accommodating. The Apple pie was delicious especially the mile high Apple pie. That it's not for the faint at heart. They had at least 16 options for ice creams. Definitely will come back again .

Took a deal from to allow me to hear about this place. Glad I took it. You seat yourself in this laid back establishment and with very little wait, your meal is brought to you. All very tasty... I had the mac and cheese sticks and the "altered" Cobb salad. I didn't like the charge to alter the salad but it was a really good salad after all. Will be coming back!

This is <the> affordable restaurant in the Gayborhood. It's a meeting space for community leaders, recovery groups, and the famished of all stripes. It has a long pedigree that goes back to its original location on the 1100 block of Pine Street (where Mixto is now.) Terrific desserts (don't miss the banana cake with the to-die-for vanilla icing.) The sandwiches and salads are great. I swear by the Cosmopolitan Salad (I add grilled chicken) which is large enough for two meals. Great service with waiters who have been there for years. Must visit if you're in the gayborhood.w

Food is always constantly good. My favorite a are the burgers. Tofu stir fry, spinach salad, carrot cake and of course the mile high apple pie is what there known for. I always get it with ice cream and of course share it.

This place catches your eye when you're walking by. On the portion of it being more than just ice cream, I can't vouch for, but after eating at a local bar my friend wanted a brownie Sundae. First of all, eating and digging out of a cup with a plastic spoon isn't easy. The brownie may have been warm, but it was hard to break in a cup to eat. I really don't think that was effective. Plastic bowls may have been a better choice. Secondly, the crushed oreos weren't crushed. They were full sized, making it even harder. All of this for whopping $8.50 isn't a decent price either. It's okay, Luckily a friend and I split it, so I honestly paid for half of it. My other friend who got something similar only ate half of hers and she had similar problems. The wait staff is pretty nice, and it's really cute inside. They have lots of ice cream flavors to choose from as well as toppings. But my two iffs are, price and effectiveness. I couldn't enjoy it all too well because it really wasn't effective or efficient.

Food & service was really good. Had the grilled chicken w/ arugula, tomatoes, pesto & bacon and it was delicious. I'll be back.

This place is a childhood favorite. Over time they have only gotten better. I use to go there when they were located on 11th and pine. I purchased a cake for a birthday from here and all the guests raved about the cake! I've had breakfast here and it was delicious. I'd have to list this place under my top favorite restaurant/dessert places in Philadelphia.

This is a really easy to miss spot!! No jump out at you curb appeal. But once you find it you'll always want to go back! Not a lot of frills here but I've gone to this place over six times now and every time it's really great food and delicious homemade desserts! And they make them right there in the shop! Try their chicken and waffles, outstanding! Added bonus; on the walls there you'll find interesting artwork by local artists from the area. And it's available to buy! And the cherry on top, for Java junkies like me they serve Philly Fair Trade Roasters small-batch organic coffee! It's roasted right here in North Philly and its sourced from cooperatives in Central and South America! And they're a sustainable company! Oh, I almost forgot the ice cream, it's exceptional! Unique flavors with that local dairy taste. So they really are more than just ice cream, they're just plain cool!
