Best Speakeasies to Sneak Into in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"It may not have the traditional hidden entrance, but this sister bar to Kindred gives the transportive experience of a speakeasy through its far-out space odyssey theme and heavy-hitting tropical drinks like the Heliotropic, a twist on a Mai Tai with kumquats and other exotic flavors. Top-sellers include the Mindkiller — Mothership’s spin on the traditional Painkiller cocktail — with rum, amaro, coconut cream, and a Tang cordial. To accompany the drinks, Mothership also offers a vegan “Earth Food” menu with dishes like a crispy kimchi paella with fried rice, artichoke escabeche, lion’s mane mushrooms, and a saffron aioli." - Roxana Becerril

San Diego’s Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants | Eater San Diego

"A vibey sister bar to the vegan restaurant Kindred, Mothership serves a curated menu of experimental vegan snacks with an Asian diasporic twist, all under the glow of a fiberoptic sky. In early 2025, the menu got a refresh: Beloved staples like Potato 001 — crispy, scallion-studded latkes topped with kimchi cream cheese and everything furikake — remain. New additions include Rice 002, a gochujang-infused paella disk paired with artichoke escabeche and lion’s mane mushrooms, and Tofu 003, a dish of lemon pepper tofu cubes served over a banana leaf, finished with hot honey and opal basil." - Kelly Bone

Mothership is OUT OF THIS WORLD! The ambiance is like sitting in a bar somewhere on another planet in another solar system! If Han Solo walked in I wouldn't even think twice about it! From the seating to the walls and even the bathrooms you are in for an interstellar experience! The drinks are amazing and the food is outstanding! If you are within a few hours of San Diego you need to come here!! 10/10!

First, if you've never been to Mothership, go. No matter about any bad reviews, go check it out. It will most likely be a "One and done" place for you. Primarily because there are limited food options and the drinks are pricey for what you get. So go in with the mindset that this is for the experience. The only time we may go back is if we have out-of-town visitors and want to do something fun. The decor and atmosphere is awesome. My only complaint is the music is way too loud. It was like club-level loud. The food was really good. My only issue with the dining part is the drinks. Our drinks were 90% ice and literally just a few sips of actual drink. The place is very small. Around 10-12 tables and 6 seats at the bar. With all this said, if you haven't been before, go.

Google
Very nice space themed restaurant the menu was so cute. I love that it’s vegan cuisine but I do wish they had some sort of meat option. Nonetheless the vegan dishes were very delicious and well seasoned. Drink was cute and delicious. I recommend a reservation as it got super busy in the evening.

Google
Cannot recommend this bar highly enough! Especially for any sci-fi fans out there the place is dripping with atmosphere the moment you walk in, the themed drinks and menu were well done too. We went as a party of 4, they got us seated right away, wait staff were all very friendly, they had an amazing selection of rum and tropical type drinks which we all enjoyed (the strength ratings are very helpful), overall this was easily one of our favorite bars ever and we're already looking forward to coming back to San Diego to visit again.

Google
This place is really fun! I definitely enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. They did a great job creating an otherworldly experience. You really do forget that you are in San Diego when you’re in here. The drinks are solid, they taste delicious, and I do appreciate that they have a meter for how strong the drink is. I also appreciate their commitment to the theme, it really makes the whole experience more immersive. The food was good and worth a try, but it would not be my first choice for dinner. I’ll definitely be coming back for the drinks and experience though!

Google
We thought it was closed when driving by but as we got closer you can hear the music. The atmosphere was lovely. Truly felt like you were in a space ship either at the bar or tables it was great service. Our bartender was very informative on the kitchen closing making sure we didn’t need food and what drinks would be bitter or sweet. The menu shows you how much you may get drunk depending on what you drink.

Google
Such a fun and unique experience in South Park. Service was great, food and drinks are all vegan and so so tasty (I am not vegan or vegetarian). The cocktails are festive and fun and the whole vibe there is just incredible. Make sure to make a reservation in an advance and show up on time since each reservation is only 90mins long!

Google
This is a 6 star bar easily. Just can’t rate it higher. Drinks are perfect, super strong, atmosphere is great. Even though it gives HR Geiger vibes this is top tier tiki through and through and I would say easily one of the best in the world. The staff were all wonderful. It was so good we bought two glasses. This is gonna be a permanent addition to visiting SD. ***Edit. Went back a 2nd time. Had some of the food. The paella is with the trip alone and just utterly perfect. Almost finished the entire drink menu with my wife between both visits. I’m Sticking with my original statement. One of the best bars in the world.

Yelp
This place was really cool and different! Im glad i got to go here while visiting SD and glad my friend made reservations! Their drinks were delicious! Most were rum based but a few you could sub for vodka and tequila they recommend. We didn't try any of the food, just 2 rounds of drinks! The drinks were strong and had a great presentation. We realized you could only stay for 90 mins per reservation, the pushy waitress told us which was sorta a buzz kill at the end. Covid is over so wish they got rid of this rule, but i also feel like we were getting attitude because we were not ordering any food either. Would still come back because of the unique atmosphere. The bathrooms are a trip!

Yelp
I've been to a few themed bars in San Diego and was not overly impressed with Mothership. The spaceship vibe grew old and the music was boring. This isn't a place to grab dinner since the menu is limited. We ordered five small plates to share: potato, sandwiches, rice, pancake and tofu. My favorites were the potato and tofu. The sandwiches were like bao buns. The pancake was an okonomiyaki (a Japanese savory pancake). The rice was kimchi fried rice. The sandwiches and rice were too spicy and there was too much barbecue sauce on the pancake. For my cocktail, I had the Warbird. It was bitter, but tolerable to drink. Service was great from the staff and we didn't have to wait long for our food and drinks. Reservations are a must since the place is small. On a Saturday night, they were at full capacity.

Yelp
We had out of town guests so we returned to Mothership for the second time. We made reservations a few days in advance and had several times to pick from so definitely easier to get a reservation now compared to when we first visited almost 2 years ago. Thankfully we had been before as the door is not marked well. Upon entering we were greeted and immediately walked through the crowded standing only bar area to our table. As there have mentioned the theming is on point and immersive. It was a bit smaller than we remembered. Our server (Angela R. according to our receipt) was fantastic. When ordering drinks she warned me that the one I had chosen did have a bitter aftertaste and then guided me through the menu to help me pick something I would like, eventually suggesting an off menu drink that they used to have and could still make. When one in our party felt their drink was too strong, she handled it well and helped them pick a new drink. The menu does give you an idea of how alcoholic the drinks were but we found even the weaker drinks to be quite strong. I do wish they had a few "safer/traditional" tiki drinks. Overall we had a fine experience but aren't itching to go back unless we were with friends who wanted to go

Yelp
Mothership was a *vibe* and I was here for it. It's like the new school and more aesthetically pleasing cousin cocktail bar of Oga's Cantina at Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland, if you've been there. I say aesthetically pleasing because look at the ceiling! It's like you're stargazing and there are occasionally "shooting stars," which I love! The cocktails were good, and some were VERY strong. These cocktails were cocktail-ing. If I had to choose my favorite, it would be the "Homing Beacon," which was the sweetest, despite it having two different types of rum AND brandy AND liqueur. I'm glad that I was able to find something that I enjoyed because the menu is limited, so I would say to check out the menu to ensure you see something to your liking. I understand that not every bar has food, so I'm thankful that there are some options to choose from. My boyfriend was not much of a fan of the potato, but my friend and I could've eaten 10 more plates. Mothership is pretty on point when it comes to their 90 minute limit, so don't lallygag too much!

Yelp
Amazing service and drinks. Food was fantastic. Fun atmosphere and great vibe. The salad 002 was great, I would probably call it a young coconut ceviche. Very tender and tasty

Yelp
Pretty cool bar that reminds me of Oga's Cantina at Disneyland. There wasn't any distinctive sign that said "Mothership" but there was a mysterious door. We opened up and were so surprised at the dark dimly lit it was. The vibes were very futuristic/ spacey. Good thing we made reservations and were able to get seated a little earlier than our original reservation time. Service was great and attentive. Drink selection was pretty decent. I was unfortunately not drinking alcohol that day because I drank way too much the day prior. Since I was visiting, my cousin already made reservations for us to go here. I ended up getting a mocktail "x Ray" which was kinda minty and spicy. We didn't order any food. Overall, it's worth checking out at least once. Need to go back for their alcoholic drink next time.

Yelp
Had such a fun time that I stopped taking photos! Mothership is an extraterrestrial themed tiki bar which combines the campy fun vibes of 80s sci-fi film with sweet boozy cocktails. Most of the drinks have some rum basis in theme with tiki bar, but there are other options for people that have been wronged by rum once or twice. There are also nonalcoholic options so that anyway so they don't have to be left out of the festivities. The bartenders are knowledgeable and make some amazing recommendations. There can be a long line but make sure you book a reservation for a secured time spot

Yelp
A great spot your a unique night out! I definitely recommend making a reservation if you plan on going during the weekend. Service was great and the drinks are good but the inside ambiance is the best part. All the food is appetizer size so you'll need a few plates if you're hungry.

Yelp
This spot was so cool! We made a reservation for 2 on a Saturday night at 8:30pm and were seated at the bar pretty punctually. The spaceship theme was on point, with lights, sounds, creative menu, and out of this world drinks! And I think the prices were very reasonable considering how creative the drinks were. Many of the drinks seemed to be rum based, which I was very ok with. We had the annihilator, away mission, and warbird. The annihilator was very strong (limit 2 per guest), the away mission was fruity and delicious, but my favorite of the night was the warbird. I thought the flavors were great, and especially enjoyed the caramelized pineapple - very unique imo. I would highly recommend this immersive experience and would definitely come back to try the food!

Yelp
This was a cool and unique experience; a friend made a reservation for our group at 9:45pm; we were promptly seated (there wasn't much trouble finding street parking by that late). The decor was pretty detailed/amazing and reminded me of Star Wars (having just been to Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland), and even the bathroom had a cool design to fit in with the rest of the spaceship theme. The ceiling was very pretty and covered with stars. Our server was very helpful in recommending drinks to our group; I ordered Nostromo's Stowaway which I thought was very good and sweet. We also got the Time Capsule for our group, which was a good size and mild and refreshing. All the drinks had a cool presentation, and seemed to have a well blended/balanced taste between the alcohol and fruit (though I admit I don't know much about alcohol). The vegan food was also really good. We tried the pancake, rice, donuts, and potato; my favorite was the potato wedges, they were delicious with the sauce. My only complaint is some of the food portions seemed a bit small for the price. I would definitely recommend coming here at least once for the neat experience, our group really enjoyed it!

Yelp
Here's the good: the interior is everything that you would hope it would be and more. This is a very disneyland-esque place that you should take your friends if you're wanting to impress people visiting. The drinks were inventive and interesting, and I actually liked the food options we had although the rest of my party did not agree. The bad: This definitely is a gimmick spot. I can't see myself coming back here again and I'm a shameless bar fly. I thought that the food was good, everybody else at my table did not. This is the same restaurant group that brought us kindred, and their menu is fantastic so I did have higher hopes for it but alas. The service really is another reason why I give it a couple of stars off, our server was less than enthused to be working and that's always a sticking point for me. They were slow to come back to the table, they were snappy when we asked questions about the menu, and when we needed a second to look over it they said nothing and then walked away looking irritated. They were very busy, so probably a hard day for the server. But still very uncomfortable for us. It's getting three stars for me because I'm not interested in going back, unfortunately

Yelp
Me and my two girls went there tonight for the first time and had the best time. The menu the drinks the environment the restrooms the service were spot on. The mothership is a gem of a place and I am definitely going back.

Yelp
One of the most successfully themed bars I've ever been to! Not only the design, but the drinks are very much aligned to this "space/astrology" theme that I adored with my girl friends :) Bartenders were amazing and the drinks tasted fantastic- would love to go again if I visit SD! ** RECOMMEND** Dive Stimulation - lightweight Astro Zombie - heavyweight

Yelp
This was a super unique space-themed tiki bar. My boyfriend and I stopped by on a Friday night around 10:30pm after dinner in the area. There weren't any more reservations available online but we were able to walk in and were seated within 5 min. The vibes are super cool and you feel like you're in a spaceship. I really liked the wall decor by the bathrooms and playing with all the switches and knobs lol. Drinks were pretty sweet and strong which we enjoyed. We also got a pandan-mango dole whip, very unique! It tasted like my elf makeup cleansing balm. Idk if they do this every night but around 11pm they had a little show where they pretended we were in a space crash lol. Very fun! We stayed til closing (12am) and they gave us a 5 min warning before we had to leave. Service was great overall! This was a fun spot and would recommend! Wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come back but was a fun one-time experience!

Yelp
I highly recommend making a reservation when visiting Mothership! With a reservation, you're guaranteed a table and a spot to fully enjoy the experience. If you decide to walk in, definitely call ahead to check the wait time. The bar seating area is small with limited space, so it can fill up fast. This was my first time here, and I can't emphasize enough how magical it felt! The ambiance truly captures the feeling of being inside a spaceship--it was so mesmerizing that I didn't want to leave. Everywhere I looked, there was something new to take in, with stars in the "sky" and even the occasional shooting star if you watched closely! The drinks were not only delicious but also beautifully crafted, and we tried a variety to sample the range of flavors. The food was equally impressive--all vegan and just as enjoyable as the drinks. Mothership is more than just a bar; it's an experience everyone should have. If you haven't been yet, put it on your list!

Yelp
Let's start with the server. She was awesome and helpful. Such a cool, out-of-this-world spot! The futuristic, spaceship-themed decor is so fun and unique, and the cocktails are just as creative. The menu has some great small plates too, perfect for sharing. It does get pretty crowded, and seating can be a bit tight, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars. But if you're looking for a one-of-a-kind vibe and good drinks, this is the place to be!
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
This place is definitely a one-and-done for me. The biggest issue was the drinks - it took 30 minutes just to get one, and when it finally arrived, it tasted terrible. They really need to hire a proper mixologist. If your goal is just to get drunk and you don't care about taste, this might be the spot for you. The theme was fun, and it did make you feel like you were on another planet, which was the only cool aspect. However, I was expecting more excitement. There wasn't a single flaming drink or anything memorable about the experience beyond the decor. Disappointing overall.
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
My friend and I went on a Friday night at 8pm and there was no wait for walk ins. Mothership was a great fun speakeasy experience. It truly feels like you've been transported to outer space with the star studded ceiling. The drinks were also strong and reasonably priced at ($16) compared to a lot of speakeasies in San Diego that would charge $20 or more. I loved all their descriptions for the drinks. I got the away mission which includes Blended Golden Rums, Gold Pot Still Jamaican Rum, Crème de Banana, Kumquat, Papaya, Pineapple, Lime, Opal Basil, and Mint. I loved how I couldn't taste the rum but it wasn't a super sweet drink and it was still super fruity. I also love the type of ice that they use. Everything was on par with the theme with each drink on the menu perfectly curated. I also love how eventhough it was busy we didn't have to flag down the bartender to order our drink and they came to us and asked if we were ready to order. Absolutely great service. Would definitely be back again and definitely a great place to grab a drink after dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
The drinks are majority rum based but pretty once brought out. Definitely giving the alien space theme with a unique vibe and environment. the servers were friendly and accommodating to any questions we had.

Yelp
How do I begin to describe my time at Mothership?! SD does not play with their variety of bars, breweries, coffee shops, or speakeasies. Every time I visit my friend down here, I try to visit a new bar or speakeasy (if time permits). Anyway.. made a reservation to ensure a smooth arrival. I seriously felt like I escaped reality and entered a tiki bar in an intergalactic world. Their menu was so intricately detailed and the drinks were STRONG. I kept admiring every corner of Mothership since I love vibrant colors in a dark space. Oh oh.. They got vegan food and mocktails for folks who have dietary restrictions! Such a unique and out of this world experience.. 11/10 worth checking out.

Yelp
I found this place on instagram forever ago but finally got the chance to check it out! Let me start off with saying that ambiance is 10/10-I absolutely love how themed this bar is. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you're transformed into another world and everything down to the bathroom is super well themed. In terms of the menu, there are a large variety of drink and all of them are so well decorated! Because I don't drink alcohol, I really appreciated that there was a decent mocktail menu. I'm usually pretty indifferent about mocktails but I actually think the one I ordered here was really good! The drinks lean on the pricey end, but given the atmosphere and the quality of the drinks itself, it's less pricey than I would've expected. Service here was also really great and all the employees we interacted with were friendly. This bar is known to have reservations booked way in advance, so if you get a chance, make a reservation!! We surprisingly were able to walk in at around 4pm on a Saturday and get seats at the bar, however, we've tried coming in the past and it was over a 2 hour wait, so it seems like wait times can really vary. Overall, Starship is a really cool bar and I would highly recommend going at least once to check it out!

Yelp
The ambiance is super cute, I love the space theme and music. It reminded me of a little meow wolf. I loved the creativity and uniqueness of the drinks and food on the menu. Our waitress was so nice and sweet. It really made it a complete and special experience. The food is like small entrees, meant to be shared. We had the potatoes, donuts and the ice cream. The potatoes were mashed and fried with a delicious cheesy sauce. Donuts had sweet potato in the middle with a sort of glaze and I believe rosemary. The pineapple curry ice cream was a bit weird at first but very creamy and pretty cool and interesting. Would love to go back again. Everything was really good and different. Definitely a great place for date night and fancy drinks. I was able to bring my daughter which I appreciated.

Yelp
This was the best experience I've had in a long time! They put a lot of effort in the design of the show/decor! The service was okay. We didn't see her much but then again we were entertained by the whole place to really need much. The menu is vegan and the drinks are themed for the experience. I can't do a lot of rum so they have recommendations and alternatives. The drinks are a bit on the sweet side but I had to try one. They have a bar so I'm sure they can make anything you want. I also could post more photos but you really need to go experience it here yourself. It's really cool.

Yelp
I had an amazing time at the Mothership! I made a reservation the day before for 4:30pm, which is right when they open. I checked in and was able to wait for my party inside. The servers immediately brought out water and menus for me. I liked that the drink menu had a scale of how strong the drink would be. I ordered the Saturn and it was a great take on a French 75. We also ordered chips and potatos for the table. I especially enjoyed the potato for their crunchy outside, soft inside and citrus dip. The chips were okay. The ambiance is amazing. The "sky" lights up and you really feel like you're looking at the stars. I enjoyed the shooting stars and meteors passing every so often. I would love to come again!

Yelp
SciFi fans' dream bar! What a fun theme! You feel as if you walked into a small Star Trek spaceship, which crashed into an alien planet, for a drink! The menu has a wide variety of "out of this world" drinks and small bites. You are restricted to 90mins at your table, but you may catch a shooting star occasionally zipping across the starry ceiling or experience a "galactic drill" with smoke and flashing lights. Make sure to also check out the restroom, perfect for a Sith Lord!
google avatar

Yelp
The experience was very different from any regular bar. Loved the place. They had a variety of cocktails and drinks. Loved the appetizers they had. The place tries to mimic a space ship and hence the name. Overall great experience and definitely recommended. #Veganuary

Yelp
The decor was super cool, they didn't skip a single detail. Even the bathrooms were pretty cool and space looking if that makes sense haha, wasn't a fan of the ambiance I felt it was a little dull to be honest they definitely need better music. The drinks were delicious they have a huge variety also don't skip out on the side scream! We tried the green tea and peach ices crema and pineapple and both so delicious. (Reservations recommended to skip the line)

Yelp
What a fun place for cocktails and tapas! It is such an original concept - you feel like you are transported to another world, which I'm assuming the owner/designer intended. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our waitress went over the menu a bit and gave her suggestions. We were a party of 6 ladies for a bday outing. A few of us ordered cocktails, all of which were delicious and nicely presented. Most of the cocktails are rum-based but they also have gin and vodka options. I had the Saturn, and I was happy with my selection. We ordered one of each dish. All dishes were picture perfect! Our faves were the potato cakes (ended up ordering a 2nd dish), the rice (which seems to be mochi balls) and noodles (curry flavored with mild heat). We also had the chips, which were good but I would rather have more of the above 3 dishes. We were less fond of th pancake. It had a nice flavor, but most of us were not fond of the texture. At some point our 2nd waitress, who was a bit more dry personality (don't recall what happened to the first one) let us know it was last call for food. I think that this had to do with their reservation time limit. Our bday girl was given a choice of ice cream (ube or pandan) for her bday treat, which I thought was a nice touch (always fond of establishments that do a little something for special celebrations). At 1.5 hours on the dot our waitress let us know that our table was up for the next reservation. I didn't book our reservation, but I'm assuming 1.5 hours is the limit. Overall, I'd recommended this place for its fun ambiance and both good food and libations. Keep in mind that it's a tapas place, so either be prepared to ordered a few dishes if you have a heavier appetite. For a group of ladies, the amount of food were perfect.

Yelp
As someone who doesn't drink, I never have an amazing time at bars and speakeasies. I wanted to tag along this time, because my best friend was in town and I had been to Mothership once before. I recommend making a reservation. There is no guarantee that you will be seated if you walk-in, especially if you are in a group. The first time I went with a group of 3, we waited at the bar and were seated in about 30 minutes. We were able to order a delicious potato dish that kept me entertained as I was not drinking anything. It had hints of kimchi flavor that meshed well with the potato! The only critique I have is that I want it to be bigger!! The second time I went, I went with a group of 4 and we had reservations around 10. The kitchen was already closed at that point so we weren't able to order any food but our server pointed us to the soft serve which I was so excited about. I had the ube and yuzu pineapple flavors swirled which was the best decision because they balanced one another so perfectly. My three friends taste tested all three drinks that we ordered and this is what they said- 1. Pulse Cannon (left) : Sour and a very strong minty flavor but tastes like fresh juice! 2. Orion (middle) : Citrus, strong! Typical cocktail flavor in the best way (this was the favorite of the night!) 3. Warbird (right) : Different x3!! Unique and spicy (but could be overwhelming for some!

Yelp
Definitely a cool cocktail bar with decoration and ambiance that lives up to the name. It's a pretty small space and we're happy we made reservations because even on a Sunday afternoon at 5 it was packed. I will say you probably need to like rum to really appreciate a lot of the drinks here though. They have cocktails, cocktails and food. The menu is pretty cool with extensive pictures, descriptions of ingredients and the alcohol strength listed for drinks and allergens listed for the food. I got the warbird and found it enjoyable. It was not as sweet as I would have thought and also felt almost a bit savory in flavor. Maybe from the black strap Caribbean rum. My friend and I split the chips which come with 4 different types of chips and a white bean dip. The chips were lotus, taro, red beet and Okinawan purple sweet potato. A fun mix with different textures and flavors. The white bean dip was pretty disappointing though. Almost no flavor. Overall very enjoyable and recommendable!

Yelp
After dinner, my friend had made a reservation for this speakeasy in which she said was super cool. I couldn't wait as I haven't gone to any speakeasy in San Diego yet! It's located in between Carbon South Park and Mazara Trattoria on 30th St in South Park. There's only street parking around the area which wasn't that difficult to find as there were marked parking stalls all around. The speakeasy was definitely very futuristic and cool! I didn't expect how decked out the bar would be until I stepped foot in here. LOVED everything about it as it gave very Star Wars themed vibes. Menu, vibes, everything! Even the restroom was as if we were in the Death Star! LOVED IT! There was also a ceiling of stars where there would be the occasional shooting stars. The friend whose been here also mentioned that there were also smoke machines that go off once in a while (didn't go off when we were there on a weeknight, though) We had a party of four and two of the friends were only going to order mocktails, so my other friend and I opted something light so they could also try our drinks too! Nostromo's Stowaway - I was very excited by the fact that there was black sesame something in this drink and wanted to try it! Definitely a sucker for black sesame things. The black sesame was an infused crème de cacao which actually didn't have much of a black sesame flavor at all. The drink was relatively strong with the mixture of different rums. It was also quite sweet but very still very good with the combination of everything. Polaris - My friend originally ordered the Nostromo's Stowaway but when the server mentioned that this was actually her favorite and that there was a nice ginger taste, my friend said she'll try this instead and let me have the other one LOL. This was very light in terms of flavor and smoothness compared to the Nostromo's Stowaway. The flavor wasn't as sweet and definitely a drink I would have enjoyed more (whoops). But it was great that both my friend and I were able to try both of the drinks! Tracking Device - nonalcoholic drink . It was quite sweet in my opinion, but it had a nice blend of flavors from both coconut cream and water with hibiscus and lime. Tang & Tonic - My friend wanted a nonalcoholic drink and chose this and wanted a flavor in it. However, the flavor she wanted wasn't available (can't remember what) but our server recommended passionfruit and mentioned it was her favorite combination of hydration drink. My friend LOVED it. Overall, a fun speakeasy to hang out with amazing drink options (and cool menu!). I do want to come back to try their Time Capsule drink that is for 2-4 people. Especially with people who aren't lightweights like me!

Yelp
Highly recommend even if this type of place is not your thing. Themed drinks are typically more difficult to make at home. Amazing atmosphere of outer worlds. Service is great since this place requires quick service to keep customer flow. The place is very busy sometimes so always make a reservation if you can. Very similar to the galaxy edge bar at Disneyland.

Yelp
Frequently go down to San Diego to find different types of hidden bars that may be speakeasies or Tiki's in particular. Each bar we went to we asked for advice from the bartenders to see what they would recommend and all of them at some point mentioned mothership. We were able to get a reservation, (don't bother trying to get in if you don't have one). When we went in, we were seated promptly at our time and were given menus to overlook. Instantly when you walk in, you literally feel like you're in a different dimension. It has a extraterrestrial vibe and definitely does not give you the generic tiki vibe that you would typically get at any other tiki bar. The drinks were yummy, the bartenders are very talented and can make multiple drinks at one time, and by that I mean, the bartender that was working in front of us made nine drinks at once, which was very impressive to watch. During the holiday they have a seasonal menu which was pretty good and included different types of hot drinks as well. When you walk in the decor is very impressive. They have different screens on the walls that show that you're on a planet. They have hanging mechanisms coming from the ceiling and the restroom literally reminded me of the ride at Disneyland called rise of the resistance. Overall, I definitely recommend coming to this place at least once to check it out - See if it's your vibe. And if for some reason, it isn't your vibe, there are tons of other cute little hole in the wall bars that are down the street.

Yelp
I went to Mothership directly from their sister restaurant Kindred. Both of them have quirky, moody vibes, but Mothership was more my jam. And IMHO way better overall. The food that we tried was inventive, tasty, and the combinations were alien to us (see what I did there). The food and drinks had an Asian flair. The whole place is set up like you're inside a spaceship or hanging out in a galaxy far, far away. You can watch the ceiling and see shooting stars, the bathroom is a must visit; It's like you're on the Death Star. You have to be 21 to get in, I believe. It's also fully vegan, which is out of this world!! I went with my husband and our two friends, all of which were not vegan but they enjoyed everything just the same as I did. We each got a drink. Things were priced pretty good. I really wish they would've had a menu for sale, as a keepsake and I wish they would've served the drinks in the cups shown in the pictures (that are for sale). The service was great. There is a hidden drink on the menu that creates an immersive experience; I can't remember the drink name, but I'm sure if you ask a server, they would know which one I'm talking about. It's a big drink and a little bit more pricey but worth it. I guess my favorite thing was the squash donuts (I forgot to take a photo of), and the potato dish. We also tried the pancakes which were okay but the other two dishes were superior. Noise level was good. It was easy to have conversations. If I ever go back to San Diego, I will definitely have Mothership on my must revisit list.

Yelp
This place is rad! The drinks were delicious and creative, the food was pretty good for a trendy bar, and of course the ambience was super fun! From start to finish, the design of the place was pretty amazing. My friend told me the ambient music on loop was created specifically for the bar! It suited the place perfectly! Also, the sauce on those noodles... amazing. I tried the seasonal squash tempura donuts- sounds like a mouthful!- and they were okay, but when I dipped them in the noodle sauce they were even better. What a fun experience, would definitely recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
Tiki bar with niche intergalactic terraform aesthetic. Ambiance is fantastic to start the night at nearby South Park with soothing ambient music. Drinks may be cloyingly sweet for someone more used to traditional cocktail bars.

Yelp
Really cool bar! I love the space theme in here and they certainly went all out, from their unique menu to the presentation, to the entire decor. Every drink tasted great and we were pleasantly surprised by how good is food is. It seems that walk in is also allowed but reservations is recommended.

Yelp
Finally checked this place out now that the craze has died down a bit. The decor inside is sci-fi down to the menu and cave-like entrance. Ordered the "away mission," which was very good. The punchbowl is a skip for us, way way way too sweet :) Bathroom is hidden but clean. Looks like a bathroom in a movie spaceship haha. Saw families of all ages. Very welcoming place. Street parking only.

Yelp
Could not wait to try this new little bar that our tiki friends recommended. We stopped by when they opened to see if we could get in. Even though many open tables we were unable to get in other than a little counter space at the door. The place only holds 49 so reservations are recommended. Interesting bar menu with a lite food menu. We did not get to order so the 3 star is for the cute dark inside a space ship atmosphere.

Yelp
This is a one and done type of place. I'm glad I went there and had the experience, but because of the cost, likely won't be back. I thoroughly enjoyed my drink. I had the miss modulater, which is kind of like an expresso martini with rum. Most drinks here are rum based and I would suggest checking out the menu before you arrive because there are a lot of drinks to choose from, and you only have 90 minutes for your reservation and it goes by fast. The music was lounge tiki and the bathrooms were a kick. I would go again if I had a friend who really wanted to go. But not likely to go in a whim.

Yelp
Get a reservation; it's super tiny and it seems always busy. You don't want to get stuck in standing only because it's very bump-into-your-neighbor. Host and bartenders were super nice and accommodating. We appreciated how many staff were masked in cold and flu season given the low airflow and high patronage. The interior is super interesting to look at - lots of little details to notice and even the bathrooms keep the illusion going. Didn't eat this time but the bites looked good and will try on a subsequent sit-down visit. Drinks are very tiki but at least not too terribly syrupy sweet.

Yelp
We were in luck and found seating at the bar, but only for 2 people, so one of us had to stand. The other times we tried to go, we were unsuccesfull LOL. I heard it's easier to get into now though. My visit was back in August. My friend and I both opted for the Tracking Device Mocktail. It was a bit tart and very refreshing. My other friend ordered a cocktail that was pretty and yellow. I like that you really do feel like you're in a spaceship. They had some smoke and alarms going off at some point. Lines to the restroom was pretty long. I didn't get a chance to try the food- maybe next time!

Yelp
So, decided to take a chance and walk in knowing without a reservation, there would be no way we could get a table. We were offered standing room only which we took since we were just staying for a drink. Very small crowded bar. Very loud! Poor bartenders were working overtime! Menu, both beverage and food is very bizarre!?!? Fun experience, not sure if I would go back.

Yelp
Vegan food and drinks!! I'm not a vegan but I was so surprised by their menu! I ordered the potatoes and OH. MY. GOODNESS. It was like the biggest wedge french fries heaven on earth!! Idk how else to compare it... but I love it and I would totally order it again! I also ordered the pancakes!! Presentation was amazing. These dishes were super shareable for four people and will definitely be back to try more of their vegan dishes!! The drinks were good but I wasn't really wowed by it. I do like how the menu tells you how strong each drinks are. I think I liked the food more than the drinks! But that's just me!(:

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Price: 4/5 I went for the first time, and I made a reservation at the bar top (highly recommended to make reservations). This bar is nearly two years old, and all of the hype behind it is valid. Victoria and Alfred were the two bartenders working while I was there. They were so engaging and friendly and made amazing recommendations for drinks and food. If you love tiki bars or sci-fy, then check this place out! If I was a local I would definitely be a regular.

Yelp
Unlike any other!! From ambiance to menu to drink garnishes ... Mothership has thought of every last detail. We made our reservation well in advance for a Saturday night, and were so happy to be seated in the main room with a beautiful view of the "night sky". Our server was attentive and answered all our questions. We just got one round. I had the Away Mission and my partner got the Star Rider (not pictured but just as delicious). We will definitely be back for another visit!

Yelp
Oh my, what a fun surprise this place is! The drinks all have a caliber/legend of how strong they are and it is so fun to try a new style each time. Excellent artisan cocktails is an understatement. My guy and I sat at the bar and had the honor of being served by Alfred. He really made the night with his interesting conversation and mixologist skills.

Yelp
The most unique bar experience l've ever had. Also my first tiki bar experience. It's designed like a Star Wars sci-fi set. With a unique menu design. The staff were professional and accommodating. Surprisingly affordable with food options. I only had the drinks this time but there's variety of theme options. Just like the music, the menu is intergalactic. There's art decor every square feet with the artsy menu items. I had the "tracking device". Picture with listed ingredients, tasted tropically sweet with the coconut layers and splash of hibiscus. The water closets are designed like an imperial holding room with interactive ship control buttons. Looking for a late night theme, the mother ship is calling.

Yelp
Take Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Gallactica, and Halo, mix and shakeup in a cocktail mixer, you get Mothership...the most amazing sci fi nerd and geek bar! Words can't describe the science fiction themed space bar...you'll have to see all the pictures to believe it. MAKE A RESERVATION! Reservations are required almost always! My friend and I walked in around 4pm on Saturday, and got lucky to get spots at the bar. Staff were all friendly. Cocktails ranged from $14-19, pretty standard these days. The two we had were delicious! Can't wait to come back with my friends in our Star Trek costumes!
