Mount Everest Deli & Grocery in Ridgewood is your go-to for delicious Nepalese and Indian bites like cheesy momo paratha wraps and spicy momos, plus great grocery finds.
"The small bodega opened right before the pandemic. There are several new items on the menu, but the jhol momo stands out. An order costs $10 and comes with eight chicken or vegetable dumplings in an oily, orange broth. The broth has a slight kick thanks to ground chiles and masala seasoning." - Eater Staff
"At what looks like a run-of-the-mill convenience store in Ridgewood, you’ll find momo-based innovation in the form of momos wrapped in paratha. That shouldn’t work—it sounds like a haphazard carb-on-carb creation at best—but it does. Very well. Swing by the deli counter for a quick meal, order juicy, well-spiced momos wrapped in the flatbread and coated in cheese, and toss in an order of momo sans paratha, too. "Momos in paratha shouldn’t work. The concept sounds too carb-heavy, but Mount Everest Deli & Grocery pulls it off exquisitely. You can order your dumplings wrapped in flatbread at the deli counter of what appears to be a very normal corner store that also sells boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Coated in cheese, the momos are juicy and well-spiced. You can also get them on their own, sans paratha, or you could supplement them with a hefty portion of samosa chat, or chili chicken over rice. "A Nepalese convenience store in Ridgewood, Mount Everest Deli & Grocery is one of the best places in the area to shop for South Asian snacks and groceries. It also has a giant flat-top grill and fry station next to the checkout counter, where you’ll find breakfast wraps, samosas, and other to-go food that will have you coming up with excuses to buy masala potato chips, just so you can grab lunch since you’re already there. Mount Everest's especially gooey egg-and-cheese paratha wrap with a chai is the closest thing to a guaranteed good morning you can get in this city. Later in the day, go for a cheesy momo paratha wrap: yes, that’s a lot of words, and it’s the first time we’ve ever had dumplings inside bread, but it works. The samosa chaat is a great anytime snack. There’s nowhere to sit inside, but just across the street there’s a triangle with a few park benches where you can take your haul." - Carina Finn
"It’s definitely a sort of social space as well as a deli, for a certain cohort of people, particularly Nepalese people in the area,” she says of a recent video highlighting Mount Everest Deli in Ridgewood, Queens, which sells paratha breakfast sandwiches and pani puri." - Emma Orlow
