"At the western end of Chinatown Square sits this traditional malatang restaurant. The specialty here is a type of Sichuanese hot pot but the kitchen also dabbles in seafood boils. Enjoy lobster, crab — king, blue, or snow — crawfish, shrimp, and more swimming in sauces like garlic butter and lemon garlic. For those seeking spice, they’ll find it in abundance at Mr. Wang." - Jeffy Mai, Eater Staff

The decorations were very modern and hip inside to cover up the fact that the food is just okay. I’ve honestly had a lot better at other places. It’s strange there seems to not be waitresses. Definitely didn’t wow me but the spices weren’t bad.

We had the hotpot and the Louisiana style seafood. The Louisiana dish is a bit disappointing, the flavor is great, but it didn't go into the meat. Or maybe there wasn't enough sauce, too much oil and not enough sauce.

It was okay but I wouldn't go back, nothing special about this place. Regular hot pot is much better and I liked this place more before they change into this business. And I think customers who don't speak Mandarin would have a little trouble ordering if you are not familiar with everything there. Or it could just be that one person I was talking to.

The crawfish was very tasteless. It was not juicy and it was overpriced. Not worth my money. The thick clear noodles were alright and the soup had a unique smell and taste to it. The crabs were good and juicy with flavor. They also gave me pieces of gum at the end, enough for everyone.

Way too pricy. The way they charge the food was weird. They actually weigh your food on a scale. I was so excited to try the Malatang in Chinatown and I picked some of my favorite food from the bar. The fish was frozen, the meat was frozen which added a lot of weigh to my dish. They even barge the bag of noodle for $1, it was just noodle. And the scallop was so expensive I forgot how much exactly they charge but it ended up to be $55 for two serving of Malatang for me and my boyfriend. The broth was too greasy and not tasty at all. It was just like they out the food into water and boiled them and put in some broth afterwards. I didn't enjoy the food. And I felt robbed.

I love the food but I don't know how I always end up getting over one pound of food. Compared to other restaurants in Chinatown this one is expensive. Great food, though. The spiciness level is hit or miss, "little spicy" varies from unbearably hot to not hot at all.

A great place if you are a seafood fan, I had a mix pot and did med heat, that wqs quite spicy. If yoi want soup, do not order dry pot, dry is just all the ingredients cooked presented like a salad (my friends mistake). They let us stay past closing, were quite accomodating, definitely recommend this place !

Won’t go this placed any more, we order 2lb food but in fact we got less than that, we let the sever put two times of the corn that were 4 little piece then we finally got 3.I think they took some out when they cook in the back kitchen. The ridiculous part was they charged us 13% service fee for two people, not high at all but it made me felt robbed!!Because they don’t have service at all! Ordered by the counter, no water provided, no one asked during the dining time, horrible service!!
