Murphy’s Review - Virginia-Highland - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"As crazy as it sounds, there once was a time when ATL brunch had nothing to do with hookah or hot honey. Murphy’s, a modern American mainstay in Virginia-Highland, has been around for just that long. A restaurant that looks like your way-too-neat aunt’s house, Murphy’s brick-accented atrium is perfect for brunch, a business lunch, or a Saturday dinner where you’re trying to score meet-the-parents points. Ordering the flash-fried calamari for the table is a good start. But every order is worth it here, from evenly-seared Carolina trout to the Murphy’s Mule cocktail. Just end with the gooey Tollhouse Pie, which is a neighborhood legend on its own. " - DeMarco Williams

Google
What a cool place. I had the pleasure of eating lunch here with the Murphys as part of the MVP experience. I had the Comeback burger and fries. Both were delicious. The burger is huge and cooked just right. They are permanently closing after the All-Star game in 2025 so hurry if you want to experience it.

Google
The food was alright. Ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich. The chicken piece was small, nothing like the in the menu picture. Fries tasted like fish. Service staff was not great, they were pleasant, but they were overloaded. 3 people seemed to be waiting on the entire restaurant customer load. Never got checked on before bringing the check, never got a refill on my empty glass. Credit card charge shown before they even took my card.

Google
Popped for a dinner after Blade Show at Cobb Galleria, very convenient location. Enjoyed the Philly Steak and Chicken Wrap with fried okra!

Google
Stopped by during MLB All star weekend. The staff were so friendly, patient, and kind. They had great suggestions for food choices and took extra time to help us with our order. There's a cool gift shop inside. The owner was pretty cool too😁

Google
First time coming here and will definitely be coming back. The food and service were phenomenal and the atmosphere was awesome. I’ve been a Braves fan my whole life so it was cool to see all the baseball stuff around. They even have a small shop with souvenirs. It’s not fast food prices but it’s not fast food quality or portion size either. If you leave hungry, you did it to yourself. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Google
Best place to eat in Atlanta. The atmosphere is a perfect mix of baseball nostalgia and good times. Great service and great food...and Murph!

Google
If I could give this 10 stars I would. I’m a huge Braves fan and Dale Murphy has always been my favorite baseball player so I knew while in town for a game recently we had to stop here! Now the parking around here that day was insane so keep that in mind. I got seated quickly, there were only 2 waitresses but they seemed to keep up fine with the customers. Ours was really helpful with picking food out. I loved all of the Dale Murphy memorabilia there, posters, pictures everywhere and a cute little area to shop and get some cool Braves items and Dale Murphy shirts. We splurged and got the chocolate 🍫 cake 🍰 oh that was so good. Well the biggest surprise of all was Dale was in town for a meet and greet and was so nice I got my picture with him! Talk about the best day ever!! 💥

Google
There’s a sign asking guests to please wait to be seated, but no staff seemed to be actively managing the queue. It felt a bit disorganized—two or three groups who arrived after me were seated before I was. I understand the team was likely busy, but it was a bit frustrating.

Yelp
Food was good! A little expensive maybe but it's in a convention hall, I wasn't expecting anything cheap. I didn't specify how I wanted my burger cooked but it wasn't dry. Good burger and fries for the price.
google avatar

Yelp
Murph's best attribute is its location to Brave's games, outside of it's easy access to the ballpark everything else was average. The beer was served in plastic solo cups. The appetizers were just okay, the fried pickles were straight out of a frozen Sysco box, average at best. The hot honey cheese balls were good, but five in a serving for $10 makes it's not worth buying. The boneless chicken bites, again straight Sysco concession stand quality food. The service was good but not enough to make the whole experience rise above just okay.

Yelp
Great food. easy access to truist park. Full bar. Many choices and desserts . Good alternate choice to the battery at Truist

Yelp
I was craving a turkey burger and sweet potato fries. In searching for a place to satisfy my craving Murph's was basically the only restaurant near by that had both items. The restaurant is located inside The Cobb Galleria Centre. Admittedly, I have never been to this location in all the years I have lived in Cobb County! Since it is essentially inside what I guess we can call a mall you do have to park in a parking deck that has an associated cost. Note that the restaurant will validate your ticket so be sure to bring it with you. I arrived around 4:30pm on a Friday afternoon. There was only one other table with patrons. This is the restaurant that you have to be intentional about visiting. I highly doubt that people just stumble upon this place. I was greeted when i walked in and told I could sit anywhere! The wait stuff came over quickly and took my drink order. When she came back with my order I went ahead and placed my food order. The food was delivered within about 10 min. I enjoyed the turkey burger but would not order the fries again. I don't really know what was off about them, but they just did not satisfy my craving. Overall this is a decent place to grab a meal. There is nothing exceptional about the place. However, it will get the job done when you need a decent meal!

Yelp
Feb. 13: best service, generous portions, fresh great food! It's not Braves season, but we were staying at The Renaissance Waverly hotel and we were tired of the hotel food but also didn't want to get out in the cold or drive so we walked through the CGC and found this gem. Even though it was almost empty and getting late we had The Best Service ever! Our waiter made us feel like MVPs even though we only got salads and waters, a steak salad and a chicken salad. The food was fresh and delicious even on a slow night and we had the best time!

Yelp
This place is fantastic! The burgers are big!! I had a bourbon bacon burger...great! My son had the come back burger-also great. My wife had the philly which she loved! The buns on all were amazing! Top quality. Fries? Seasoned and great! The staff? Courteous and friendly and fast! The entire place is clean and TV's everywhere. We'll be back!!

Steve T.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Nice atmosphere. I'll make it my go to place before attending a Brave's game every time. It's only a 10 minute walk to the stadium.
google avatar

Yelp
The staff was awesome and the food just as amazing!! Dale Murphy has a great place !!

Yelp
This restaurant was located underneath the hotel in a old mall for a convention I was attended. The service was a bit slow but they also appear to be a bit understaffed so no complaints. The food itself actually came out really quick. The stuff is very friendly here and happy to help. One of the staff members help me do a little work around the rules in order to get some alcohol up to the convention center. The food was nothing to complain about it also wasn't anything that stood out very much. I did enjoy the buffalo chicken sandwich so I cannot complain whatsoever. It's a generic food, kind of like the menu was written by the food distributor. Their TVs throughout the place they can always watch a game that's on one of the many screens.

Yelp
Don't bother specifying how you want your burger cooked. It won't matter. Pros: Food came out quickly- not busy because braves game already started. TVs all around- good seating for larger parties. Nice server- good appetizers. We really enjoyed the chicken sante fe rolls and the cheese curds - both with the comeback sauce Problem: all 4 of us ordered burgers .. 3 medium rare and 1 medium. All came out well done and dry. We called the waitress over to let her know and normally, most places are willing to remake as ordered. Nope. We were told "oh, they must've gotten busy and backed up in the kitchen and when that happens, they cook them and don't pay attention to that even though we tell them. So they were just backed up." Mind you, there arent many people here and it's close to closing time (we ordered by 8:25, closes at 9pm) . No attempt to correct or talk with manager to make right. Just "I'm sorry- that's just what they do" . I politely told her that would've been helpful to know that ahead of time because we likely would've ordered something else. She said she had no way of knowing. Very disappointed and more so that there was a way to make the situation better, but an attempt was never made. Won't be back

Yelp
Great food and service! While at Cobb Galleria, this place is a must to go for a lunch or even just a break. Very friendly staff and great food and cold drinks.

Phil K.

Yelp
Burger was overcooked and fries ok. Felt bad for our server who had to wait tables and handle the whole bar herself. Inside a dead shopping mall and absolutely no sports bar vibe other than stuff on walls.

Jessica B.

Yelp
We had a fabulous waiter named Decklin. He took really good care of us. The food was flavorful & delicious. Loved all the memorabilia in the restaurant. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
Atmosphere Food Service Awesome place! If you're a Dale Murphy fan, you have to try this restaurant!

Ryan D.

Yelp
Great place to stop before the game or just want some good pub food! Especially if you are a fan of Murph himself!
google avatar

Yelp
I am not sure why this place has so many stars. I went there for lunch today. It's located in a rundown shopping mall and the food selection is dismal. Typical bar food chicken sandwich ,burgers , chicken wings. I had a turkey wrap. It was mediocre. I'm not sure what the draw is here other than it might be cool on game days but with so many options over at the stadium now I do not see the need to come here. I also paid $16 for a turkey wrap, needless to say I am not coming back.
google avatar

Jonathan P.

Yelp
I'm a biased Braves fan but I love Murphs for a pregame drink and/or snack. I stopped in before a day game today and had a couple drinks and some fried pickles. I always get good service. They have good food and better prices than anything in the Battery. I normally walk over from the Cumberland mall area right past Murphs so it's a no brainer to stop. Fried pickles are about 12 bucks really not a terrible price for a place that close to the ballpark. That's what I had today. They were fried well and weren't overly greasy. I've never had a bad experience at Murphs. If you are a long time Braves fan it's a must stop

Yelp
Attending a conference at the hotel, we were looking for a good lunch spot not far away. I ordered the burger, rare, no cheese or bacon. It was delicious. Manager says they use Hereford beef exclusively. With coffee and tip, bill was $21.

Tom W.

Yelp
I thought it was an enjoyable, accommodating and clean establishment to visit. Service was excellent and food was good. Kristina was prompt and treated me with exceptional courtesy. I would recommend.
google avatar

Yolanda W.

Yelp
Nope, not another time. Waitress slammed my card. Slammed my ticket. Irritable beyond acceptable. Well not be back. Charged .75 for ranch with wings!
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Limited menu is why I gave it a 4 stars. It's definitely a burger/fries bar food only type joint. They had a good dessert list if you like desserts but again no real entrees other then burgers and definitely didn't see vegetarian or gluten free options not that I am either due to my health but sometimes I am doing a low gluten diet due to inflammation.
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
The pita and hummus appetizer was amazing and the bourbon burger was absolutely to die for
google avatar

Esther E.

Yelp
I came in after the home show. The meal was pricey ($20 after tip) but they validate parking, so it comes out about right. Bring your parking receipt with you. I ordered the pot roast fries, 1/2 order was huge! So delicious! Everyone seemed so happy. Families having a good time.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Great service and a nice place to each lunch but they serve standard bar food that isn't anything to be excited about. Great place to grab a beer before the game and if you are staying in the hotel a better place to eat lunch or dinner than the hotel itself.
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
We had appetizers to start with : Cheese Curds and Mini Crab Kickers. Had the Cordon Bleu snd Philly Cheese sandwiches. Was a wonderful time there would highly recommend it to some one before a ball game. Service was outstanding, food was exceptionally had a really great time. Will be back when down in the Galleria area.
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible experience to start. The place looked severely understaffed. Waited for 45 minutes to be seated after a game. While that might be expected, the fact that there were constantly 4-6 tables available while people waited was the kicker. It didn't feel organized. Everyone waiting was standing around and wondering what was going on. Wait staff was busing, seating and serving. There was a large watch party for UCF football AND a playoff game for the Atlanta Braves. It seemed like management bit off more than they could chew with the scheduled staff. The UCF party took up 50%-65% of the seating and bar area. Probably more. Sorry Once we did get seated, our waitress hustled. She was busting her ass. Food came out quickly, and was pretty good. I had the comeback burger which had good sauce, but make sure you have a lot of it because the burger is virtually plain without it. Got cheese curds for the table, also good. We got some deserts and sampled. All pretty standard, but good. 1 Star for the first half, 4 for the second. I gave a three because the waitress was awesome, a real all-star, like Dale, I guess.

Yelp
I've been to "Toby Keith's I Love This Bar" and have never met Toby Keith. I've been to Margaritaville in Nashville, but never ran into Jimmy Buffet. But in one visit to Murph's in Atlanta, this guy comes up to me and thanks me for stopping by and introduces himself as Dale Murphy. I never put 2+2 together and didn't realize this was his restaurant. I had to tell him that I still have my main baseball glove which is a Rawlings Dale Murphy right handed glove. The food here is very much comfort food. The buffalo bites and crab bites are very good. Great craft beer on tap. They accidentally brought out a beer for me that I didn't ask for and didn't charge me either. I made it up to them with the tip. I'm not sure if everyone who goes there gets to meet Dale Murphy, but I can say he's a really nice guy who is genuinely happy to have you as a patron. He may not have made the MLB Hall of Fame, but he's certainly in mine.

Franco l.

Yelp
Food was decent. Really slow service. Automatically added 18% tip to the bill because there was a convention. Charged extra .75 for ranch. On top of that, charged me for a drink I never ordered. Charged my credit card twice because of the refunded drink. Pretty much, don't eat here unless you want to get swindled and wait 15 minutes to pay for your bill
google avatar

Yelp
First off, Murph's is owned by a class act of a person. Not only should Dale Murphy be in the Hall of Fame as a player, he is a genuinely great person who has touched many lives. I had wanted to come to his restaurant for some time now. But we're talking about the restaurant - and it is a great place to eat! The decor is, as you would guess, Dale Murphy and Atlanta Braves themed, with lots to look at as you wander around the building. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. The menu is primarily apps, burgers and sandwiches. We ordered the cheese curds (Murph's signature item that Dale mentions often on Twitter) and the fried mushrooms, and both were very very good! The comeback sauce for the curds was delicious! For the main meal, I had the Hawaiian burger, which was 1/2 lb of beef with pineapple, ham, Swiss cheese and BBQ sauce. The burger was nicely done (and I like them rare to med-rare), and the roll it was on was soft and very tasty. Our dessert was a chocolate spoon cake which was moist and tasty. Our server, Wendy, was very personable, warm and friendly, and an excellent server as well. She made sure we were taken care of at all times, and even grabbed our picture in front of Dale's "3" before we left. Take good care of this gem - don't let her get away! It wasn't a cheap meal, but it was a great meal and a terrific experience!! I would go back again in a heartbeat!
google avatar

Mario A.

Yelp
Solid pre-game restaurant. I had the sweet chili wings, burgers and buffalo chicken sandwich during several visits. Service has always been friendly. Fries are good and salty. The burgers were decent, but not great. The sweet chili wings I had the other day had great tasting sauce, but the wings came out chewy. They need to work on that as hot wings should be tender. I recall the buffalo chicken sandwich being good. Overall, a decent place better than most options nearby.

Paige T.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Our waitress was wonderful! Get the crème brûlée cheesecake! Great spot before a Braves game - or anytime.
google avatar

Rebecca P.

Yelp
Good food. Good service. Can't ask for much more during times like these where everyone has staffing shortages.
google avatar

Roch B.

Yelp
I'm goin' 5 stars for the Club House Sandwich, for the sweet tater fries, for the nice pour on the Jameson, for the real nice service and for the happy conversation. It had the CHEERS vibe written all over it.
google avatar

Branch H.

Yelp
Great food with the worst service and snarkiest waitresses I've ever seen. I understand slow service, I don't understand rude and mean servers. They'll probably stand around later complaining about their tips.
google avatar

Mick D.

Yelp
I hate to say it, but I wonder how long Murph's will stay open. Will any foot traffic from the other side of the interstate be enough to keep them in business? Is this place enough of a draw to get people away from the battery? Time will tell. In the meantime, I was not impressed with our food options. I mean, it's bar food. I had expected more. I had expected food with more soul. More, I don't know, sportsmanship. Regional flair or something. Plus, with a name like Murph's, I thought there would be more of a memorabilia homage to the man for whom the place is named. So much of that seemed lacking. On the day we visited, the place was very nearly empty. That's why I'm wondering how long it will last.
google avatar

rachel w.

Yelp
Highly mediocre restaurant with decent food. The restaurant was very busy with both anime characters and World Series fans. The wait wasn't too bad but I had to call the hostess out for seating other parties before us when we were there first. Table size was not the issue. Not really sure what was. Hostess yelled out another name and I politely pointed out we were there before them. She asked my name, I replied, and she tried to save herself by claiming that was the name she called. Bahahahaha. No. Anyway, our waitress was lovely and efficient. Cheese curds and boneless wings were amazing. My only complaint about the food was that the kitchen put the fries on the same plate as the boneless buffalo wings so about half the fries were drenched in buffalo sauce. I doubt I would return to this spot unless, like last night, it was incredibly convenient.
google avatar

Bonnie O.

Yelp
We had Murphs tonight and it was amazing. Our awesome server suggested the Bourbon Burger. It was delicious. We loved being able to watch the Dodger game in such an inspiring space. Cant wait to go back.
google avatar

Ron F.

Yelp
Went here on Friday night. When we got to the hostess stand, we waited for like 5 minutes while servers walked by us. No one said hello or even acknowledged us. We finally stopped a female server and told her we had been waiting. She responded with 'the kitchen is backed up so we decided not to seat anyone.' She had walked by us several times before this so not sure why she didn't say anything prior to this. We asked if we could sit outside and order a drink, and she basically told us to do what we want and walked off. When we went outside, the male server was actually very good. He got our drinks and was on top of it. We didn't order food based on the female servers comment. Overall this could have been a better experience but the first female's attitude was unacceptable.
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
Just had appetizers. The fried artichoke hearts were very light and crispy and the boneless wings are honestly the best I've ever had anywhere and I'm not normally much of a fan of boneless wings! Light and crispy breading and the the buffalo sauce was amazing. The cheese curds were about standard but good.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
Fantastic menu, great quality food, venue was inviting and service was SUPERIOR!! Burgers were juicy and delicious complemented by fried okra, crab cakes flavor deliciously enhanced by the "comeback" sauce, cordon blue sandwich and fries...perfection! Salad greens farm fresh and delicious! Great family friendly restaurant ! We will definitely be returning! Thank you for a great experience! Special shout out to our waiter, Ellis. He provided excellent service and made our experience FANTASTIC!
google avatar

Kerstin L.

Yelp
Because I have a grain allergy, it's not often I find places to eat. This is one of those places. Salads: black and bleu and the grilled buffalo salads are both good. Wings: the baked bourbon wings are excellent. Burgers: the bourbon bacon burger with sweet potato fries is excellent. The cheesecake with drizzle is excellent, too. I love the atmosphere. Ask for Ellis. He's great!
google avatar

Yenly C.

Yelp
Stop for late lunch, service was excellent, I had a black and blue salad, very generous portion and good. My hubby had a huge burger with sweet potato fries. Great place to grab a quick bite.
google avatar

Caleb F.

Yelp
Customer service was absolutely top notch, and the food was fantastic. If you find yourself hungry prior or post Braves game...I couldn't imagine going anywhere other than Murph's!
google avatar

Cindi R.

Yelp
Standard bar food. I understand you could have the honor of meeting Dale Murphy. We did not but good to know. Great friendly service. I had the Greek Salad. It was fine. One member of our table had a burger with bacon and peanut butter!! Never heard of such a combo but she ate it and liked it. We had dinner the first time here second time while in town was lunch. They were very busy due to the convention. Service again was very good but the kitchen was a bit behind. That happens but we had to eat and run.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
Murphs is great! I highly recommend it to everyone. It has a nice layout with some great old photos of murphy's playing days. One time I was there Dale Murphy even brought out my food and talked to me. As for the food the prices are very reasonable. The one thing I love about this place is the quantity. You are guaranteed to leave with a fully stomach. The food taste great from the hockey tenders to the burgers. It is a great place to go before or after a braves game or any event in the battery or Cobb galleria. The only downside is the location. It is a little off the beaten path to get to.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
It was nearly impossible to come up with a star rating for this review, because everything at Murph's is either off-the-chain excellent or pretty awful. I landed in the middle, and want to explain the reasons I enjoy this restaurant in Cobb Galleria Center as well as the things that frustrate me every time. The Good: * Location. I can't imagine going out of my way to deal with the parking situation, but if you're at a Braves game and already in the SunTrust Park area, it sure beats the crowds and inflated prices at the Battery. Just a five-to-ten minute walk from the stadium, it's a perfect stop for a pre- or post-game nosh. * Food. It's bar food, plain and simple, but it's solid bar food. I've never been disappointed with an order there, and have tried several of the appetizers and sandwiches. There's nothing I wouldn't try again. I highly recommend the cheese curds and fried beef tip sandwich. (The chicken fingers were fine but not outstanding.) * Dale! If you're a native Georgian between the ages of 35-50, chances are that at some point in your life, Dale Murphy occupied a place in your heart more or less between Jesus and Luke Skywalker. I was fortunate enough to meet Murph himself on my first visit to his namesake restaurant (a modern-day Sam Malone, he is extremely approachable, willing to sign autographs and take pictures as well as share his thoughts on the current Braves roster.) It's rare that our childhood heroes live up to our inflated expectations if and when we finally meet them, but I am happy to report that Dale Murphy is absolutely as nice a guy as you'd ever imagine him to be. The Bad * Service. The hosts are generally very friendly. I can't speak to the bar, because my girlfriend and I have always eaten in the main dining room, where there is one server whom we've encountered a few times who seems to go out of her way to be rude. It's really baffling. I've been to Murph's four times now, and on both occasions she waited on us, we were stuck waiting for about 10 minutes to order drinks Inevitably, by the time she checks on our drink order, we are ready to put in the whole thing. Both times, we ended up getting our meals a good 10-15 minutes before our drinks arrived. It's just plain inattentiveness. When we politely remind her "hey, we're still waiting on water" we're met with a brusque nod or hand wave, as if to say "yeah yeah, it'll get there when it gets there." Really strange, because everyone else seems friendly. We've decided in the future just to avoid her section and hope for better somewhere else. All in all, recommended.
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
Attempted to order from Murph's last night. Just wanted takeout. Called to find out phone has been disconnected. Drove over to order in person and discovered the restaurant was closed. Might be temporary with COVID-19, but real disappointed that there was no indication anywhere. YMMV.
google avatar

Barbara A.

Yelp
That place was super awesome. Very friendly folks. Our waitress very knowledgeable about the food gave tips on what to order. Got to meet owner Dale Murphy himself.

Ronald S.

Yelp
Nope. Chicken tenders were tough, burger was dry. Cheese curds were ok. Pot roast wet fries passable but scant on the pot roast and and spent just a little too much time under the heat making the cheese dried out. The Diet Coke was the best thing I had there. Not sure about the average 4 stars--3 would be generous. Mediocre at best. Too many other places out there to try. My suggestion is try one of them first.
