The 10 Best New Restaurants On The Westside

"A USC undergrad launches a fine dining pop-up in 2022. Two years later, his first restaurant opens next to Giorgio Baldi. We’d tell you what we’d done by 24, but it wasn’t that. Muse’s backstory is impressive, but it’s the polished confidence of this upscale French spot that surprised us. The chic Art Deco space is sexy and intimate. The smooth, boozy cocktails with vermouth and amaro are elite. Then there’s the food: ambitious dishes that, while not perfect, are fresh and interesting, like braided brioche that crackles like a croissant, juicy veal bonbons in a pesto-y sauce, and an herb-crusted rack of lamb we’d put against any in town. Who’s behind it? You’ll probably meet him. The young chef touches every table with the confidence of a floor manager at Le Bernardin." - brant cox, arden shore, sylvio martins, cathy park

Muse puts a youthful spin on old-school fine dining - Review - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Picture a fancy French spot next door to Giorgio Baldi with sharply dressed servers, tableside dessert trays with chocolate tarts and tiramisu, and an eccentric chef who greets every guest personally. No, we’re not describing some faded hotspot that Demi Moore and Emilio Estevez went to in 1985. We’re talking about Muse—a restaurant run by a group of friends in their early 20s that goes all in on glitzy flourishes of yesteryear and makes them feel entirely of the moment. Muse’s backstory would make for a great made-for-streaming movie: A USC undergrad and his roommates launch a popular dining pop-up on campus in 2022, and a few years later, they’ve opened a lavish restaurant with Art Deco touches one block off PCH. It’s a wild story that informs every aspect of the place. On any given night, one roommate might be helping with valet while another pours white negronis at the marble bar. In lesser hands, a grand production like this could feel like an amateur cosplay, but the friends run the front-of-house with the grace of someplace that’s been humming along for decades. photo credit: Jessie Clapp photo credit: Jessie Clapp photo credit: Jessie Clapp photo credit: Jessie Clapp photo credit: Jessie Clapp Even if you were oblivious to its youthful backstory, Muse delivers a dining experience that’s refined and intimate, the kind of place that warrants getting dressed up and impressing somebody important. You’ll sip boozy amaro cocktails in booths with fluted felt walls, watch the Palisades old guard glide in with diamond broaches, and eat fussy nouveau French food that might seem dated if it wasn’t so delicious. Not every dish is a hit, but the ones that do impress grab your attention in presentation and flavor. That includes a braided brioche starter that crackles like a croissant as you rip it apart, roasted beets topped with a wavy beet crisp that looks like something Dolly Levi would wear to a bar mitzvah, and a spot-on rack of lamb bathed in tangy jus. If at some point you wonder who is behind all this, you’ll meet him. Whether he’s describing the showstopping St. Honoré dessert or how the lobster risotto was his favorite thing to cook for his friends the morning after a party, the young chef pays a visit to every table with the confidence of a chief steward on a private yacht. Feel free to ask him if he's still taking roommate applications. Food Rundown photo credit: Jessie Clapp Cocktails A good bar goes a long way at a place like Muse, and the cocktails here are so silky we’d make a trip just for a drink. The menu is heavy on boozy stirred concoctions that make use of herbal liqueurs and eau de vie. We love the Di Volpe made with apple brandy and two types of amaro, and the Calliope, their take on the white negroni with orange blossom and dry London gin. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Brioche Feuilletée Your first indication that Muse did its homework on classical cooking. Each crunchy woven loaf arrives with the kind of detail you’d expect from a croissant up the street at Petitgrain Boulangerie. Sometimes they're not listed on the menu to avoid the kitchen running out in a matter of hours (they're popular). But just ask. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Veal Bonbons Along with the brioche, this is the other must-order from the first section of the menu. The golfball-sized veal bites are fried crispy outside and extremely juicy inside. They disppear quickly—which is why our only complaint is we want more than three per order. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Roasted Beets This is what happens when you send a solid plate of beets and goat cheese to RISD. Does the beet-infused crisp add much to the dish? Not really. But it looks great and you’ll hear plenty of “oo’s and ahh’s” from the table. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Saffron Risotto As explained by our server, this was one of the original dishes from Muse’s USC pop-up. It’s a fine risotto, but for $65, we were expecting more oomph from the lobster tail and gremolata. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Rack of Lamb This dish reads like something from a 2003 issue of Gourmet magazine. Then it arrives and looks like one, too. But then you’ll slice into the tender, evenly cooked meat with a flavorful herb crust and realize maybe 2003 was onto something. photo credit: Jessie Clapp Dessert Even if it means skipping an appetizer, do what you need to and leave room for dessert. All your options are presented tableside on an opulent tray, each one more beautiful than the last. You’ll likely freeze with indecision. Start with the stunning caramel-glazed St. Honoré, pause for dramatic effect, order the chocolate tart, take another pause, and then throw in the tiramisu for good measure." - Brant Cox

LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"An easy way to make yourself feel like an underachiever is hearing Muse’s backstory. This gold-tinted restaurant in Santa Monica is run by a 24-year-old self-taught chef who started the concept as a pop-up while studying at USC. Muse has a stylish, Art Deco dining space and serves a French-Italian menu that features lobster pomme souffle, heirloom tomatoes with comte fondue, and rack of lamb à la Provençal." - sylvio martins

Former USC Pop-Up Kings Open Art-Filled Muse Restaurant in Santa Monica - Eater LA

"Muse debuts on Friday, August 16 in the H.wood Group’s shuttered Mason supper club with European fare in an intimate modern Art Deco-laced room. The space will be filled with handpicked art that seats 35 plus another four at the bar. Khayami will be collaborating with seasoned industry professionals, including Juliet chef Jason Gonzalez and Matthew Rogel, previously of Felix Trattoria, who will serve as general manager and wine director. One glance at the menu shows classics from France and Italy, with heirloom tomatoes and a Comte fondue, a lobster pomme souffle topped with caviar, and brioche puff pastry for the table. The team will also prepare veal bonbons, eggplant cappelletti, a wild-caught fish of the day with beurre blanc and herby tarragon pistou, and a Provencal-style rack of lamb. The menu’s only Southern California-flavored curveball is the hamachi with yuzu olive oil and Calabrian chile coulis. The a la carte menu is divided into four sections, allowing diners to choose their own adventure within its staple categories. Though prices are not listed for the current menu, a spokesperson says diners can expect to spend an average of $125 a person. Rogel’s bottle and glass selections include Italian, Spanish, and French winemakers. Gelland designed the Au Soleil cocktail with vodka, saffron, and clarified apricot. Khayami’s former roommate David Gelland is the bar director and he developed a concoction titled the Barbarossa that uses mezcal, Brucato Orchards Amaro, Vermouth di Torino, and cacao. Muse will also rotate art exhibits. For the opening, visitors will notice work by Catalan-Spanish painter Joan Miró. Marc Ange Design Studio designed the space, lighting, and furniture. By September, Muse will also offer a 12-person private dining room. Muse is open Wednesday to Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m." - Mona Holmes

A hot and new French restaurant on W. Channel Rd. right next to Giorgio Baldi. This is very close to the Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades border and it’s honestly one of the most beautiful parts of Los Angeles. The food taste and quality is very high, but the portion sizes are quite small. I love the design on the inside, it feels like the 1930s but in a really upscale way. Our server and the rest of the staff were extremely polite and very welcoming. The menu is à la carte and they do have a ton of options on it. They don’t have a dedicated parking lot and street parking is difficult to find in this part of town so the best option is valet for $15. As mentioned the food is honestly delicious but the portion sizes are quite small. It’s a great place for a celebration or a date, but not someplace I would choose if my goal is to be as full as possible. We started off with the Roasted Beet Salad, Lobster Soufflé, And the Hamachi Crudo. Of the three the Hamachi Crudo was the star and had tremendously fresh flavors. The Beet Salad was also very nice and refreshing; it would make a great summer dish. The Lobster Soufflé was good in flavor but honestly super small. About the size of a quarter. It was three quick bites and then done. More so a finger food that you would get at a cocktail party. I would recommend the Beet Salad and the Hamachi, but I would skip on the Lobster Soufflé. For entrées, we chose the Rack of Lamb (most reviews mentioned this is a must and we agree) and the special for the evening which was Black Truffle Risotto. The risotto was absolutely fabulous and covered in black truffles. It was a bit expensive for $80, but the flavors were wonderful. The Rack of Lamb was probably my favorite dish of the night because it was cooked perfectly, and seasoned well. I wish it would’ve came with a side dish or salad, but I really enjoyed what I had. Finally for dessert we finished off with the Vanilla St. Honoré and we were big fans of it. The caramel and vanilla flavors really mixed well and we loved every part of it. Overall a really delicious and trendy French restaurant in a beautiful part of town. It would perfect for a date or a celebration and I was honestly very impressed with the meal. Portion sizes are small and the pricing is steep, but I feel that it is worth it.

Nestled between Santa Monica and the Palisades, Muse is a culinary experience that captures the spirit of a charming, romantic restaurant while honoring the beauty of modern simplicity. The sleek, contemporary décor combined with warm lighting and carefully placed mirrors and accessories, create a sophisticated yet comfortable ambiance, making it an ideal spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. As a USC alum, I had heard about Museum but never had the chance to try it so was pleased to find out that Muse, using a similar menu, was opening minutes from our house. The restaurant takes pride in its farm-to-table philosophy, with locally sourced produce and fresh seafood featured prominently. We started with the Brioche, Lobster souffle and Hamachi crudo and each delivered on the expected flavor-profile. The brioche was flakey, and much more croissant than bread and was accompanied by butter flown in from France. The Hamachi was drizzled with yozu olive oil and Calabrian chili coulis which provide a subtle hint of fire. The Lobster in a Pomme Souffle was the only item we tried that was not excellent. For the main course, we tried the fish of the day, a Pan-Seared Halibut that was cooked to perfection, with a crispy golden skin and moist, flaky interior. It was paired with a delicate citrus beurre blanc sauce and tarragon pistou. We paired it with a eggplant cappelletti with pasta of which Felix would be envious. We ended the meal with a few desserts, a Tiramisu and St. Honore. Both were amazing but you can’t leave without trying the St. Honore which is an individualized puff pastry with a delicious cream and caramel. It really capped a fantastic night of dining. With all that said, the real treat of Muse, is the atmosphere and servicer. The service at Muse is impeccable. The staff are attentive without being intrusive, and each member of the staff felt like old friends by the end of the night. Whether you're sitting at the bar or at one of the intimate tables, the servers provide the perfect balance of helpful suggestions while ensuring that each course flows smoothly. Muse is a welcome addition to Santa Monica and highly recommended for those seeking a memorable dining experience.

Muse is absolutely the spot. I went there with a group of friends, and we were blown away by the vibe—cool, intimate, just perfect for hanging out or a date night. But what really stood out was the hospitality. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like we were the most important people in the room, and that vibe lasted throughout the entire meal. And the food? Incredible. They paced everything perfectly, and every dish was a hit. The rack of lamb was out of this world, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. And the yellowtail hamachi appetizer was so fresh and delicious; we were still talking about it days later. The drinks were on point too, just the right mix of creativity and flavor. If you're looking for a new spot to impress, whether it’s for a date or a night out with friends, Muse is where you need to be. 5/5 without a doubt.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in LA, you absolutely have to go to MUSE. Every dish had me exclaiming “wow” with each new bite — it’s that good. From the second you step inside, Muse makes you feel like a VIP and a cherished friend all at once. The staff is incredibly warm and attentive, creating a vibe that’s both luxe and homey. It’s the kind of service that makes you want to linger and soak up every moment. Definitely plan to stay for a while and just enjoy. Now, let’s talk about the food. The fillet with sauce? Next-level amazing. The meat itself is already of the highest quality, but that sauce? It takes it to an entirely different plane of deliciousness. And those veal bonbons — oh my goodness. They’re a must-try. Each one is a little burst of flavor that’s just divine. Here’s the deal: every single dish on the menu is worth trying. It’s a sharing kind of place, so bring your favorite people and dive into as much as you can. You’ll want to savor every bite and experience together. Muse is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience that celebrates food in the most exciting way possible. Add it to your must-visit list — you won’t regret it. It’s one of those rare places where you'll leave planning your next reservation.

There aren’t words to describe what a success this restaurant is. From the food & drink, to the service and atmosphere, Muse fosters the ability to ensure each guest leaves a happier person. The food is designed to perfection and absolutely delectable. The drinks are unique and delicious! The employees are kind and personable, and the atmosphere/decor is simply outstanding. This is by far the best dining experience I have had in LA and I have lived here my whole life! Thank you to the Muse team for an unforgettable experience. Cannot wait to go back!

Every last detail was well thought out at Muse. Definitely try the Tuna tartlets & veal bon bons!! I had the Cresti pesto which was delicious! Save room for dessert because its all made in house. The tiramisu is my favorite but the Strawberry tart was great also. Highly recommend especially for a date night.

Google
MUSE is a great place to experience French cuisine and I want to try more of the menu! There aren't a lot of new French or French inspired restaurants opening these days so I was excited to try MUSE and extremely happy with the experience. MUSE replaced another restaurant in this location but the interior has been extensively remodeled with moody lighting and art deco inspired decor. It really hits the mark for style. Everything we tried was prepared and cooked perfectly from tuna tartare to squash mezzaluna to lamb. The cocktails were imagonative and well balanced. The wine list had great variety for all tastes. Service from the moment we entered was fantastic and friendly. I definitely want to go back to try more and see how the menu evolves. I would highly recommend MUSE if you are in the area it's one of the most unique new restaurants I've tried this year.

Yelp
You know a restaurant is good when you're already thinking about the next time you'll be back. I absolutely loved this place, everything about it was well thought out and you can tell the owners made it with love. From the stunning interior to the friendly fine dining service and amazing food, easily one of my top meals of the year. - Brioche feuilletée with softened Bordier butter: best bread and butter. So flaky and tender. A must get. - Hamachi with yuzu olive oil & Calabrian chili coulis: melt in your mouth, comes with 6 pieces. - Saffron risotto, lobster & gremolata with lobster glace: amazing, the lobster was perfectly cooked. Although it was pricey, it's worth trying. - Pommes purée with rosemary: Creamy and the rosemary was infused so well. A standout side. - Tiramisu: amazing - they scoop it out right in front of you - Mango passion fruit sorbet: refreshing Small inside but such a great vibe, it takes you out of LA and felt more like you're eating dinner in London. The details are amazing and the staff is so so nice. Valet parking out front for $17 with cash.

Yelp
What an exquisite restaurant! I was recommended by a friend who just raved about this restaurant. Made a reservation about 2 weeks for my birthday celebration. Ambiance- cozy atmosphere, beautifully decorated. Started with the Voyant Spritz/ fabulous! Ordered the roasted beets, hamachi, Branzino, broccoli and roasted carrots/ all delicious. Portions for the veggies were kind of small. I noticed the table next to me ordered the filet mignon which I will be ordering next time. Dessert was tiramisu with a candle! And when I left, the server presented me with a box of macarons. I met the owner Fardad and he couldn't have been nicer- a fellow Trojan! Muse is a very special dining experience, I highly recommend and I look forward to returning to this neighborhood gem!

Yelp
Wow! What an amazing experience at Muse! Came here for a date night and it exceeded our expectations. Everything we ordered was delicious and flawless but the one dish we can't stop talking about is the Eggplant Cappelletti with gruyere and madeira caramel. It was so good that we contemplated ordering two more but were too full after the steak and lamb entrees. Dessert presentation left us in awe and ended up ordering 3: The St Honore, Strawberry Tart, and Tiramisu. I will be dreaming of all these for a long time until I can make my way back to Muse. Service was amazing and was shocked to learn they had only opened for 5 weeks. Our waitress, Allison and rest of the team offered top notch service. The owner and USC Alum, Fardad made his way to introduce himself and is the nicest guy ever. It felt like we were right at home. I think Muse is on its way to a Michelin and can't wait to bring our friends and family to our new favorite spot!

Yelp
This was our second time dining here and I cannot say enough about how impressive it is. We arrived early and were greeted outside by name and recognized for our prior visit. We were seated at a lovely table in the corner and had another spectacular meal. I could go on about the world class food, the stunning decor and the outstanding service, but having done that last time, I would rather take the opportunity to give credit to the overall warmth and kindness the entire staff shows. From ownership on down to the floor staff, the team is the best I have ever seen. The personal touches we were given left us overwhelmed. If you haven't been here yet, I cannot suggest it more highly. This is the best restaurant in LA.

Yelp
What an incredible meal! We were blown away from the moment we were greeted at the front door. The decor is polished and intimate without feeling stuffy. And they had a great playlist going. Now for the food... ! To Begin: We started with the bread which is unreal - essentially a croissant but done in a different shape. The pastry chef starts his day at 4am and you can feel his dedication. First Course: We shared the hamachi, lettuces and one canapé between 4 of us. The execution was impeccable along with the flavors. Hamachi was silky in texture and I really enjoyed the sauce combo. For the canapé style dish we did the veal bonbon with another fantastic sauce. 2nd Course: Lobster risotto and eggplant cappelletti. I could have ordered a 2nd of the eggplant dish it was so delicious. The lobster in the risotto was creamy and delicious. 3rd Course: We shared the lamb and branzino. Again the cook on all proteins was perfect. You can see and taste the French style cooking without it being overwhelming and leaving you feeling heavy. Dessert: We couldn't leave without ordering the St Honore. It was just as decadent and delicious as the photos. This was one of those dinners where we all left wanting to go back and try other things on the menu. So excited for this new restaurant!!!

Yelp
The food service and ambiance was 5 stars. Truly. While we waited for our table, we were guided to the bar where they pulled out the chairs for us. The cocktail list had ingredients that were unique. The food was not food it was art. Yes very tasty and also small portions. It allows you to try everything. Honestly i felt like what i didn't order off the menu i was missing out on. The atmosphere was quaint and intimate. Easy to talk to other guests. And the service again was just immaculate. They really put a lot of care into this experience.

Yelp
Absolutely love what they're doing here at Muse. Love how involved and friendly the staff is - so impressive how young the chef/owner is and how talented he is! Every course is impeccable; especially loved the winter squash pasta with cocoa and the St Honore. Not to mention the interior of the restaurant is gorgeous and the concept of rotating artwork is so cool.

Yelp
Everything was perfect from the moment we walked into Muse. The space is small and intimate with warm lighting and exceptional service. Chef and owner, Fardad, is not only a talented chef but a hospitable host that can be seen spooning sauces on dishes at your table. The branzino is the best with crispy and perfectly salted skin and so fresh and tender in a beautiful herb sauce. The lobster in saffron risotto is delicious. There are several dishes to choose from in each of the three courses offered. Fardad's brother, Nicky, is the pastry chef and offers an array of yummy desserts. I definitely suggest you experience this new establishment, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I wish I could give Muse more than 5 starts. Food is delicious. Staff is welcoming and wonderfully accommodating. Must haves: the saffron risotto with lobster, the filet, and all of the desserts! Such an amazing space filled with so much love for guests and an appreciation of great food.

Each dish is a masterpiece, skillfully crafted with the finest ingredients and presented with flair. The menu is a testament to French culinary artistry, offering a delightful range of flavors, textures, and seasonal influence. Stand outs are the lobster risotto, tuna tartlet, filet, and the DESSERTS!! WOW The service at MUSE is nothing short of outstanding. The staff are welcoming, attentive, and genuinely lovely to interact with. They go above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience, providing insightful recommendations and detailed explanations of each dish! This new restaurant is a true gem in the Santa Monica/Palisades area, and it's no surprise that it's quickly gaining a reputation. Yelp
Muse is a fantastic addition to the Palisades/Santa Monica area and has instantly become a favorite! Every detail here is spot on: the food is a solid 10/10 (we've been twice already!), with each dish full of flavor and beautifully presented. The service is genuinely welcoming, attentive, and relaxed, creating a stress-free dining experience. The ambiance is a unique blend that feels like a slice of NYC--chic, intimate, and energetic. It's clear the owner, manager, and the entire Muse team have put so much heart into this place, and it shows. Huge thanks to the Muse team for creating such an inviting space! I'll be spreading the word in the Palisades. Can't wait to return! - Jim

Yelp
Wow. Jaw dropped. This is the kind of place you bring someone on an impressive date, a place to bring your partner's family for the first meeting, a place that IMPRESSES and blows your expectations out of the water. The services' warmth, the ambiance, and, especially, the FOOD (!!!) makes this place a new mainstay in my restaurant repertoire in Los Angeles. Some recs: veal bon bons (a must starter), the filet (cooked and rested to perfection), and the eggplant capaletti. The desserts are all divine. Get here as soon as you can.

We had a great experience here at Muse. The ambience, the food, the service everything was great. I really enjoyed every drink I had and the lobster was phenomenal. I highly recommend coming to this restaurant as it is the best new and upscale restaurant here in Santa Monica. I really enjoyed the vibes here, including how beautifully decorated the restaurant was. I would definitely recommend Valet or Ubering because the parking was a bit tricky. If you're looking for a great upscale restaurant with very unique food I would definitely recommend coming here.

Yelp
- cute decor (pretty intimate space so make sure you are enjoying your company) - better to skip the first course - food is good but portions are absolutely tiny like amuse bouche level tiny so not worth the price - skip the bread - we got one small bread for 3 people - very reminiscent of a crescent roll - mains are well portioned and overall quality is fine but not worth the exorbitant prices - overall - nice service and not bad food but 2x the price of the quality and not worth the fine dining check of $150-200 per person.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I have been to. I would give them 100 stars if I could. The food was fantastic. The service was fantastic. The restaurant is tiny which I thought I wouldn't like at first but it turned out to be just fine. I will definitely come back soon.

Yelp
Absolutely superb food and what a charming resturant. So nice to eat in a small and intimate environment rather than a giant space with no personal attention. Every one is right there. Including the owners. The staff were wonderful and Farbad (one of the owners) is the most gracious host. The branzino was the best we have ever had. Light and perfectly prepared with a delicious crisp to the top. Perfection. My wife, who will only go to Madeo for Branzino was blown away and said it was so much better than Madeo. Filet mignon was like velvet and the lamb was perfect. The lobster risotto was so delicious, as were the cappelletti and make sure to over order desert so you can take some home. Nick certainly knows what he is doing. Overall a wonderful and special resturant that feels so different than anywhere else. Not a branded PR spot. Just a fantastic resturant with great people and wonderful food. Thank you. If you want a treat then treat yourself here. Delightful! Trust me, you'll be glad you did. Almost forgot about the pommes purée. Yes...... I licked the spoon. Tacky I know but had to be done. Bravo!!!

Yelp
This is absolutely a restaurant to watch in LA. I've been anticipating this opening and it did not disappoint. Brand new, started by two incredibly talented and ambitious gentlemen from USC, Muse is an elegant, sophisticated, and wildly exciting French/Italian inspired restaurant. Muse incorporates art into every form of the experience, from the tasteful drinks, to the beautiful plating, the incredible interior design, to the artist spotlights on the walls, to the flavor mixtures, your senses will not stop being amazed. As for the food, be sure to order the eggplant cappelletti (as someone who is not an eggplant eater, consider me reformed) it's a knockout dish. The heirloom tomatoes and veal bon bons were blasts of flavor in my mouth. Their catch of the day was cooked to perfection and my partner and I nearly cleaned our plate. The service is excellent. The staff is lovely and welcoming and the waiters are very professional but also engaging. Overall, you will not be disappointed by your visit to Muse. It's new, it's exciting, it's fresh, and it's going to be an LA go-to in no time (so make sure you get to tell your friends you were there when it first opened).

Yelp
Amazing food, ambiance, and service. This beautiful restaurant features some of the best food and desserts I've had in Los Angeles, and is exactly where you should go to try new and unique plates you won't find anywhere else. Truly the perfect spot for a date night or a night out with friends... Don't get me started on the staff, they were so welcoming and curated an absolutely unforgettable night. I will definitely be visiting again!

Yelp
THE NEW HOTTEST RESTAURANT!!!! Unbelievably delicious food in an incredibly designed space. The ambiance is immaculate. The steak and branzino are to die for, but the eggplant cappelletti is something I will dream about forever.
