The Best Bagels in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"Bagel pop-up Mustard’s comes from Kyle Glanville (who also founded Go Get Em Tiger) and his brother, Brent. The pop-up serves 72-hour fermented sourdough bagels, with a bubbly exterior and a fluffy interior. The bagels are available in flavors including salted plain, roasted sesame and sea salt, everything, and nori everything. While Mustard’s doesn’t have a permanent location, its bagels can be found at Sightglass Coffee in Hollywood, topped with schmear or in a lox sandwich. For the full Mustard’s experience, keep an eye on its Instagram for the next pop-up." - Mona Holmes

Mustard’s open-faced bagels are worth planning a weekend around. - Review - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This weekend-only pop-up is more like a neighborhood kickback than a bagel shop. Kendrick occasionally plays from the speakers, blasting DJ Mustard’s “MUSTARRDDD” line. There’s no signage, a handful of tables are scattered out front, and the whole operation runs on a “we’re here until we’re not attitude.” But none of that matters once you get your hands on their incredible sourdough bagels that you’ll see emerging from the tiny kitchen every few minutes. The crackly, blistered crust sends flakes everywhere like a Nature Valley bar, but it’s a glorious mess that you won’t bother brushing off until the bagel is gone. If you merely keep it simple with a few loosies, which come in flavors such as salted plain, toasted sesame, everything, and nori everything, plus schmears like miso scallion or chimichurri, you’ll leave very happy. That said, the open-faced sandwiches are where things get interesting. The Grampa Sam is their excellent albeit fairly straightforward interpretation of a classic lox bagel, but for something less traditional, there's the Deanna Michelle layered with chili oil and cucumbers, and the Weezy, a breakfast-dessert hybrid with cocoa spread and bananas—two of our favorites. We’re not sure what the future holds for Mustard’s, but from our view, it looks pretty bright. Their crackly dough rings are absolutely worth planning your weekend around and are the most exciting addition to LA’s bagel scene since Courage landed on Virgil. Our sole advice is to make sure you arrive early, since they usually sell out by 1pm. There’s excellent single-origin coffee available while you wait in line, but since Mustard’s is run by one of the founders of GGET, don’t expect any cream or sugar to be on hand. Food Rundown photo credit: Cathy Park Grampa Sam This is what happens when a classic lox bagel adds some pizzazz. You’ve got house-smoked salmon draped over a crackly sourdough base, while the pickled onions and cucumbers add a refreshing pop. The fried capers are a fun surprise—crunchy flavor bombs that taste like salty Pop Rocks. photo credit: Cathy Park Deanna Michelle A simple but brilliant combination of toppings that reminds us of Din Tai Fung’s cold cucumbers in bagel form. The miso-scallion schmear lays down a solid base of umami, the crisp cucumbers are neatly tiled like dominoes, and the chili oil seeps into every nook and cranny." - Cathy Park

Google
Saw Miles crunch-time @mustardsbagels and decided to roll in for brunch on Saturday. We dined on an assortment of uniquely crunchy bagels with some uniquely flavorful topping combinations. The Grampa Sam’s smoked salmon is incredible with fried capers! The Deanna Michelle’s cucumbers are set off with a miso scallion schmear and the Weezy was a fitting end with the sweet taste of house made hazelnut coco spread with bananas and honey. It was so good that we’re bringing Mom in for Mothers Day!

Google
Holy hell. We stopped by to grab two bagels to-go and we were handed a bag of piping hot, spectacularly fresh bagels and a container of "the best butter in the world." We didn't even make it home. Sat alongside a parking lot a block away, ripping hunks of bagels, swirling them around in butter, and stuffing our faces. This was the ultimate elite bagel experience. Please don't go, they're all for me.

Delicious bagels! Tried the Deanna Michelle and the dill pickle special during their popup at Sam’s Place. The bagels are crispy and chewy and the topping combinations are great!

Google
This place is clearly trying too hard. The bagels are too precious. While the stellar ingredients definitely make these a decent meal, they fall short of what they promise. The bagel is dense and crispy, lacking in that essential fluff that defines a good bagel. The flavors of the toppings lose themselves in bourgeois overcomplications and end up tasting mediocre at best. Would not recommend.

Google
Made it there a couple minutes before close and they graciously took my order. Delicious and unique flavors, definitely a must try!

Google
Pretty close to both Belle’s and Courage, but this place managed make themselves distinct and unique in their approach to the glorious bagel. Impressive. Had the Grampa and the Weezy, both were awesome.

Yelp
Delicious & unique bagels, barely any wait in the morning & the staff was so sweet. Lots of seating too, parking can be a little hard.

Yelp
Look for the green sign at the corner. Concealed in a residential neighborhood in Highland Park, there was a short line when we arrived. We found parking on Hamlet Street and plenty of parking on Figueroa Street. The staff was welcoming, and the service was speedy. There was plenty of outdoor seating. We ordered two bagels, an everything and a sesame with their house plain cream cheese. The portions are sizeable, and each bite was so flavorful. I like a lot of cream cheese, and they were generous with the smear. The brininess of the cream cheese was a nice surprise. The sesame bagel was more fluffy, and everything had a pleasant char taste. Their coffees are only served black, and there are no substitutes and/or add-ons. We asked if we could get their blueberry compote, but it was only available for their signature bagel, The Weezy. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and were satisfied.

Yelp
Loved this spot! Crunchy, airy bagels (similar in style to Courage), but with barely any wait time. The nori everything bagel was delicious! We'll definitely be coming back next weekend. (Btw - Would love to see cold brew/iced coffee as an option in the future, currently they only serve hot coffee!)

Yelp
Friendly, unpretentious, great vibes at this walk up bagel / breakfast spot. Great coffee made by people who love good coffee. Nice shaded sidewalk seating area. This was an accidental find and a home run in a neighborhood that has needed a spot like this!

Yelp
Mustard's Bagel is a MUST NOT. LA bagel lover reporting for duty. Came here to check out the hype...waited nearly an HOUR AND A HALF only to have the menu half sold out, only an hour after opening. As we got to the front, only 1 person stood before us to order. They then marked that the rest of their signature bagels were sold out. The whole reason all 40+ of us were in line. No heads up or warning, no checking in with the entire line wrapped around the block, nada. Not even an apology as we got to the window to finally order after we were all clearly upset. We can't control how they run their business but we CAN control where our money goes. We left immediately. Extremely disappointed...you can say what you want about their menu being limited or fresh or whatever, but they're playing dumb like they don't know they have a following and tons of people out front. They don't tell you they're sold out or just about to be, because they're hoping (like any giant restaurant money making chain would) that you'll still end up buying SOMEthing from them because you "may as well" since you waited so long. Not coming back here any time soon. Go support literally ANY other professional bagel place that takes themself seriously. Smogen, Yeastie Boys, Layla Bagels...you name it.

Yelp
I literally can't wait until the weekend so I can my fix! These are my favorite bagels in Los Angeles (so far).

Yelp
Best bagels I've had in LA! The owner is also such a friendly guy. Incredible bagels, great service and good vibes. We've gone 3 times in the last month... they're that good.
