Hot San Diego Restaurant Openings You May Have Missed, August 2025 | Eater San Diego

"Opened July 4 in Clairemont, this first West Coast location of Na Tart—joining two existing branches in Flushing and Chinatown in New York City—offers more than a dozen versions of the Portuguese egg tart next to owner YiBo Wang’s existing restaurant, Pho Hut and Grill. Using premium imported French butter and pastry dough made from scratch each morning, the team churns out 1,300 to 1,400 egg tarts daily, often selling out by the afternoon. Popular flavors include the original Portuguese egg tart, ube cheese, and the sunflower egg tart, which is less custard-y and cupped in scalloped layers of thin, crispy dough, while a standout savory option is the Salty Boy Tart topped with thin, dried chicken floss, barbecue seaweed flakes, and house-made milky mochi. Wang tells Eater they’re already looking at opening a second location in Mira Mesa, National City, or Del Mar." - Helen I. Hwang

10 Chicago Starters That Are The Main Event - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Whenever we visit one of the Chiu Quon bakeries in Chinatown or Uptown, we always start with their egg tarts. Specifically the Portuguese version, which has a rich, creamy filling, a carmelized top, and a delightfully flaky crust. Don’t order just one. You’re better than that." - veda kilaru, john ringor, nick allen, veda kilaru, veda kilaru, john ringor, nick allen, john ringor, veda kilaru, veda kilaru, john ringor, john ringor, nick allen

First time trying egg tarts here!! Got the Ube egg tart and really enjoyed how it wasn’t too sweet and there were also some savory notes to the natural ube. I really liked how they made it on the spot as well and the whole cafe/shop is really cutesy, with the brown aesthetic and art postings. Love love love!! Will definitely come back and try different flavors! I think I’ll be trying the taro egg tart next time 😝

I’ve been wanting to try this place due to the reviews but I heard the line is usually long so I’ve been putting it off. I came by around 7pm and there’s no line at all. I got a four pack - original, pumpkin, taro and ube. Original was my favorite. I like the flaky crust and the silky filling. Taro one tasted different than others. it’s mochi texture which I liked. The shop is small hence the long line. I’d like to try other flavors but i probably wouldn’t go often for the sake of my waistline and my wallet. IMO the price is too high for an individual tart.

Google
Clean bright and fun interior. Friendly service and delicious tarts. The crust was so flaky They were super nice and explained everything so we got the flavors we wanted. The tiramisu latte was not too sweet I love it. I'm so excited to come back !

Google
The dessert shop near Aldi that specializes in egg tarts is absolutely stunning in appearance! This time, I tried their recently launched promotion: the "Random Egg Tart Blind Box." For $6.99, you get a box of four egg tarts, each with a unique flavor and its own distinctive design. The value for money is absolutely incredible! Unboxing it was such a delightful surprise—I couldn’t resist taking a photo before eating them, and I almost didn’t want to dig in! Their egg tart shells are handmade and freshly prepared, not store-bought frozen ones. They’re crispy and flaky, and the filling has a rich, creamy milk flavor. The staff mentioned that the ingredients are healthy, low in calories, and contain no trans fats. Flavor Recommendations: 【Espresso Egg Tart】☕️ Bold, bitter espresso meets velvety egg custard—every bite is filled with the sophisticated aroma of coffee! The top is slightly crisp, while the filling is soft and rich. The bitterness is balanced with a subtle sweetness, making it a truly grown-up comfort dessert! 【Taro & Salted Egg Yolk Egg Tart】💜 Silky taro paste paired with grainy salted egg yolk—double the richness! This perfect balance of sweet and savory comes with a crust that crumbles with every bite. The filling is soft, chewy, and aromatic—one bite and you’ll be hooked! 【Classic Golden Egg Tart】✨ Back to basics with perfectly restrained sweetness! The crispy, multi-layered crust envelops a rich, milky filling that’s smooth and not overly heavy. The flavors of egg and milk blend perfectly on your tongue—a must-try for egg tart lovers! Sometimes, simple and pure is the ultimate delicious delight!

Google
I really like Natart’s Durian flavor — it’s super creamy, rich, and has that bold, unique taste that durian lovers go crazy for. The texture is smooth and custardy, and the sweetness is perfectly balanced so the durian flavor really shines without being overwhelming. Their Matcha Crème Brûlée Sunflower Tart is amazing too — the earthy matcha pairs beautifully with the caramelized top, giving you that slightly bitter, slightly sweet balance in every bite. The sunflower tart crust is buttery and crisp, which makes the creamy matcha filling and brûléed top even more satisfying. It’s one of those desserts that feels fancy but still comforting, and definitely worth trying if you love creative twists on classic flavors.

Google
The egg tarts did not taste fresh even though I came in about 30 minutes after they opened. The crust was flakey but somewhat firm. All of the tarts were overly sweet and pretty oily except for the espresso tart. I wouldn’t come back.

Devin W.

Google
I really like the Natart Cinnamon Pumpkin Egg Tart — it’s warm, creamy, and has that perfect mix of sweet pumpkin and cozy cinnamon spice. The crust is buttery and flaky, and the filling tastes like a fall dessert packed into a little tart. It’s not too sweet, just rich and comforting, and every bite feels like autumn. Honestly, it’s the kind of treat I could eat again and again, especially with a coffee or latte.

I appreciate the variety and would go back to try other flavors. The ube and taro ones went bad overnight. Customers should be informed of the shelf life of these. The tarts were delish when I reheated them in a toaster oven.

Yelp
So goooddd !! Very friendly and lots of options. Very cute place I would come again. Drinks and tart options

Yelp
Na Tart sells delicious sweet and savory egg tarts! My personal favorite is the Cheese & Corn Savory Sunflower Tart, but you can't go wrong with the original or really any of the other flavors! The staff is always friendly and helpful. I love the variety of flavors and how fresh everything tastes. Check out Na Tart and grab some yummy Portuguese egg tarts!

Yelp
Are you ready to have some of the best egg tarts in your life?!?!? Welllllll, even if you are, they might already have sold out before you even get there, because yes - they do sell out!!! Look. I can go on and on about how amazing the egg tarts are. I'm telling you, dear Yelpers, to go try them for yourselves. If you want suggestions on which ones SLAP, continue below . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . D) All of them / All of the above You CANNOT go wrong with any of them. However, my usual pickups are: * Original * Salty Boy * Corn and Cheese * Chocolate I also tried their coffee once. It wasn't anything to write home about, and I thought it was overpriced. Note: If they are out of the tart(s) you want, please be patient as they make them to-order. It is worth the wait!

Yelp
I saw the place while driving, took a U turn(safely) to try it out. It's a small cute shop with all the tarts displayed nicely. I got a few suggestions and picked up two. They were quite flavorful, specially Ube. The patty was flaky, crumbly and well baked. I however thought it was a bit expensive to come back for it. May be once in a while when I am in the mood for a savory tart.

Yelp
As soon as you walk in !!! The yummy taste hits you !! You have to go try these yummy tarts

Yelp
I return to Na Tart and am ordering my favorite salty boy tarts for my friends. There's a lot of new options such as Dubai chocolate, creme brulee, and even a sparkling grape mojito drink! The shop is as cute as ever with the decorations and staff are pleasant. I hope to return for coffee and share the boxed goods for the holidays!

Yelp
Omg! What was there not to love about my boxes of goodies from Na Tart?! I decided to try them out on a whim when driving home from San Diego recently. BEST DETOUR EVER MADE! Placed the order via Toast app and everything was boxed perfectly upon my arrival. The store has cozy lighting on and nothing sterile and optic white like some bakery shops. There's nowhere to sit down and eat inside, so it's really a pick up and go type of place. No bathroom to wash your hands or anything either. I can imagine crowd and queue management being difficult if there's more than 1 person in the store. I am glad I decided to order it as to-go ahead of time. The location has tricky parking arrangements. Many of the storefront spaces are dedicated to specific shops only, which makes sense. But during rainy weather or peak hours, it really sucks! I had to essentially park on the other side of the building/ parking lot altogether only to discover closer spot become available as I was walking towards the bakery. So frustrating! At least the parking is free and it's more too difficult to get in and out of the car park. The actual egg tarts and savory tarts were to die for. Nothing was too sweet and my favorite one was actually the chocolate ones. I loved the crispy chocolate toppings that nicely contrasted the perfectly filling and buttery tart shells. The tiramisu, crème brûlée, and original flavors were also very delicious. Loved every bite of them. The savory tarts ones were ok. I can take it or leave it. It wasn't something I remember enough of so much so that I don't recall what they were called. Regardless, I'm looking forward to getting my refills again in the near future!

Yelp
A tip is to order online! I placed my order the night before, and the pick up was such a smooth process. Placing the order beforehand also allowed me to get all of the flavors that I wanted. I ordered the 12 pcs any Portuguese tart combo ($46). In order of my most liked: 1. Salty boy (we ordered three): This came with milky mochi, chicken floss, and seaweed flakes. We loved the savory and sweet combo. I highly recommend this one! 2. Chocolate bobo: This had a delicious chocolate filling, and I loved the dark chocolate crunchy pearls on top. 3. Original Portuguese: You can't go wrong with the classic flavor. 4. Creme brulee: I liked the crispy creme brulee top. 5. Taro (we ordered two): We enjoyed the fresh taro with mochi filling. 6. Espresso: This had a nice coffee flavor. 7. Pumpkin (seasonal flavor): I liked the pumpkin flavor, but not the texture. 8. Ube Cheese: This had a mix of purple sweet potato and mozzarella. It was an interesting mix. 9. Durian: If you like durian, you'll like how fresh the durian tastes.

Yelp
We busted a mission to stop by here and it was soooo worth it. Crème brûlée egg tart- 10/10 FAVORITE Signature egg tart- 9/10 Matcha egg tart- 9/10 Durian egg tart- 8/10 It was no wait on a Saturday afternoon. There's really no tables to enjoy and eat inside so be prepared to take it Togo! Notes- large parking lot

Yelp
The first time I had na tart was in NY and was so excited to find out they opened one in SoCal. Went during opening weekend and they could not keep up with the customers. For opening weekend and third day (went in a Sunday afternoon) they were low. After two days, I would've expected them to be more prepared to be fully stocked but they were sold out of a lot of their flavors. So we just got three different kind to try: ube, salty boy and original. Still as good as I remembered In NY, better if you retoast them so they're warm. Haven't been back since their opening but hoping it's not as crazy crowded where theyll still be fully stocked

Yelp
Na Tart is an egg tart shop that makes their tarts with premium French butter in house. They also serve drinks. AMBIANCE Compact, modern. SERVICE Friendly, and helpful, although a bit slow with one patron ahead of me, and staff recognized this and apologized for the wait. Online orders can be placed ahead of time for pickup. FOOD 5/5 Portuguese Egg Tart: Flaky Pastry Shell | Caramelized Top | a very luscious, melt in your mouth creamy Custard Filling - this is the best egg tart I've ever had and it was worth the wait PARKING Plenty in the lot.

Yelp
This was my first time trying the egg tart here. The tart was delicious, especially the thin and flaky crust paired with the smooth filling, very well balanced and not greasy at all. However, the price for one tart is a bit high... so it might be a long time before I come back.

Yelp
Some pretty good Portuguese-style tarts in SD. Went for a weekend snack - grabbed a couple original tarts - they were very good, but still had be longing for the days of when I visited Lisbon and Porto. If I'm in the area, would have one but would probably not make a trek for it.

Yelp
Stop by to try their egg tarts! They had so many flavors and seasonal items as well. But I went there to just try their signature Portuguese egg tart and the original sunflower tart. The place is located in a plaza next to aldi with plenty of parking. Location is small with a chair or 2 but no tables. They also have drinks. There was no line when I came, only one person in front of me. I went home to air fry the egg tarts and they were still crispy and fresh. The Portuguese egg tart was too sweet for me and crust was alright just tasted oily. I actually prefer the original sunflower tart it's less sweet and texture is way better flaky and buttery. But overall there egg tarts are good but nothing special. I would definitely get the sunflower tart again

Yelp
Portuguese Egg Tarts in San Diego, California... I heard about this relatively new takeout business from Elite All-Star Yelper, Emmett T. He said that Na Tart has only one other US location in New York. I had to convince my cousins to go along with me. The verdict: excellent! Flakey, crisp crust with creamy custard filling! The little egg tart was still warm when we received it in a sleeve! It really melts in the mouth! There are other flavors such as matcha, chocolate, and durian. We just got the Original flavor for $3.50 It was worth it! Best wishes to this cozy, efficient business!

Yelp
I went for the 6pc Portuguese Tart combo ($23) so I could sample a variety. My box included: - Classic Durian Tart - Crème Brûlée Egg Tart - Ube Cheese Egg Tart - Salty Boy Tart They were all good in their own way. If I had to pick a least favorite, it would be the ube one, but honestly, still not bad. The salty boy tart was savory and I would definitely get it again. The crème brûlée tart was also good, with its caramelized top, and the classic flavors hit the spot. Not only do these tarts taste good, but they're also pretty and totally Insta-worthy. They also reheat beautifully. I popped one in the air fryer the next day, and it came out even flakier and better than when fresh. They went well with my morning coffee. If you like egg tarts, you'll love this spot.
google avatar

Fely L.

Yelp
Tarts were delicious. Nice and fresh! You can choose from sweet or savory so get best of both worlds. The crust was nice and flaky and the custard was smooth. I got a dozen for $23. Original, 2 crème brûlée, 2 espresso. Ube cheese. My GF got savoy ones and they were good too. I'd say my favorite was the cream brûlée and I'd prefer to have the Ube spread across rather than blob of it on top. Even spread across the whole tart. The expresso was to strong of a flavor for me and I love coffee. But now I know which I like so it's all good.

Yelp
Tasty!!! I love Portuguese egg tarts and this place hits the spot. Service was great and the interior clean and captivating as well. I tried their creme brulee and chocolate tarts on a different occasion, and thought they were a creative spin, but the original was far superior. The original egg tart is flaky, tender, and had a great balance of sweetness but not overly sweet. This time I bought a half dozen of the original for $20 and thought the quality justifies the cost ($3.33/piece).

Yelp
Na Tart is a spot focusing on reinventing the classic egg tart with some new and innovative flavors. This spot is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. Inside, they do not have any seating but do have seating in their patio area outside. For their menu, they have a nice selection of different Portuguese and sunflower egg tarts to choose from as well as some drinks too. Wifey and I ended up getting a spread of four egg tarts: the Cheese & Corn, Taro, Original Portuguese, and Matcha Creme Brulee. Overall, we enjoyed all of the egg tarts and they all had unique flavor profiles. My fave was forsure the Cheese & Corn one! All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. This is definitely a great spot to grab a sweet treat for yourself or some goodies for the family.

Yelp
I'm came here Saturday night after a fancy omakase anniversary dinner for some egg tarts. My husband and I got 4 egg tarts to share. We got two original Portuguese egg tart, ube, and espresso. They were out of the original in the display window but brought more out that were fresh. The egg tarts were flaky and had a nice crispy crunch when you bite into it. The filling was smooth and rich. It's a bit of a splurge but I'd come back and try some of their other flavors. The original is a must try!
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
Came and got a few different flavors for a get together. They were all very creamy and had great texture with a flakey, crispy crust. Crème brulee had a nice burnt sugar top which very good. The chocolate was my favorite, when I was in Portugal I found a place that said they made chocolate ones but when I got there, they said it was only a few times a year so I didn't get any. I was super excited that I was able to find chocolate ones. The Ube wasn't as sweet as I would have liked. It was just Ube purée put on top of a standard tart. Which I guess is the same as all the others but the ube wasn't sweet. The espresso was my least favorite, kinda bitter. I wish it was a sweetened flavor like a coffee candy. I think I preferred the sweet flavors. I tired to get some a week earlier and there was a line out the door. So this time I went early and got them. By the time I went to eat them the crust was all soggy. But I put them in the toaster oven on fan bake at 400 for like 6 minutes. It crisped up the crust but you should let cool a bit before eating it so that the crust crisps up and the custard is not molten hot. Service was kind and welcoming it's a small shop with a few reserved parking spots but you can also park in the large parking lot that they share with Aldi or around the corner near Taco Bell.

Yelp
I have always loved egg tarts and when I heard from my friend about this place -- I just knew I had to try it out. I thought it was interesting all the different flavors they made, while still being diverse it was also limited. At the time I went, it was around 10:30am and nearly half their trays of each flavor were empty. Hopefully they were baking more. The prices for each singular egg tart truly varied, I thought it was a little on the expensive side. Since their egg tarts seemed to be varying in sizes. We even ordered two of the same flavor and they were different sizes-- if they could work on consistency that would be great. I also noticed that some toppings, were also limited in terms of quantity given (if you compare it to their poster image that's displayed in the shop). I ordered: - 2 Crème Brûlée: the crème brûlée was both delicious and sad. It's because the interior was quite runny compared to your usual egg tart. But the burnt sugar topping added beautiful, rich, caramelized flavor that contrasted the sweet custard. The pastry itself did flake nicely and was hot! I think, if you give it 10-15 min, to slightly firm the egg custard part-- Then it tastes superb! I def recommend you keep the box open because you want the brûlée part to still have its crust. - 2 Espresso: this one had a strong and bold espresso flavor, it was good-- but not for me. It was quite powerful and not as sweet as I'm used to eating. - 2 Taro: the taro was interesting because it was your average egg custard tart piped with freshly mashed taro paste. The texture reminded me of red bean or mung bean. It was nice for my mom, but I didn't prefer it. Overall, they were nice to try, but I wouldn't come here too often as the price for them rack up easily. They had both egg tarts & something they call sunflower tarts which seemed more on the expensive side with a little bit complex flavors. Na Tart is based on Portuguese egg tarts, which I have never had before. I only know of the Chinese one and I'd say they are a different in terms of taste and texture (pastry). On the box given, it says you could put them in the fridge for the next day. And then either microwave them or toast them, I'd recommend toasting it. The crème brûlée one doesn't get the same effect if you eat it a day after though, so def keep that in mind--unless you have a torch! They even have savory egg tarts and coffee drinks available. As a special moment, I think Na Tart would be a nice tasting experience for people since you can get a box of 6 or 8!

Yelp
NA Tart has officially landed in San Diego. They've taken classic Portuguese egg tarts and freshly bake them with a twist (and a few more $$$). They have what they call their original egg tarts with flavors like original, ube cheese, espresso, chocolate boba and taro and then they have sunflower egg tarts which have a curvy crust and are slightly more expensive. I came on a little after their grand opening and ordered a box of 6. They make them fresh and some were even coming directly out of the oven! If you're used to a hard crust, you'll be surprised by just how delicate and delicious these are. The crust is flaky and the filling is very custard cream like. They are delicious, but the price tag is rough! $23 for a box of 6 felt like a huge splurge, especially when you can get a 2 pack of these from 85 for so much cheaper. Again, the quality difference is pronounced so I'll give you that, but these feel more like an indulgence than a regular treat!

Yelp
If you love egg tarts, you need to come here. What a treasure to have this place in San Diego where I feel like the truly unique niche East Asian creations don't really come down here or stay long enough ( Looking at Hui Lau Shan for example or Bambu *SOB*). I am really hoping they stick around, and it seems they are at least for now, extremely popular. The place has lines upon opening, so my personal recommendation is to try to arrive when it opens so you have a the gamut of tarts to choose from. Other reviews mention that they would arrive later in the day and a lot of the different types of tarts were gone. The store is fairly small, clean and cute. I wanted to try all the different assortments of egg tarts they had here, but at the time (I'm not sure if they have changed their policy) only allowed me to order 6 tarts max (I'm assuming it's due to how many customers they have at the time). I ordered - taro - ube cheese - the salty boy - the sunflower - the original - the cheese & corn savory sunflower I wanted to try the creme brulee tart but they were all out at the time that we arrived. I hope to try one at a later time. I shared that tarts with my parents who also love egg tarts. My dad loved the cheese & corn savory sunflower egg tart. The sunflower was delicious, but I think my favourite was the salty boy. The savory and sweet plus the texture of the pork floss along with the smooth custard was perfect. What na tart has down is the flakiness of the tarts. The price is also reflective of the higher quality. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to pick up the tarts since I live fairly far away from the location. However if I were in the area, I would 100% buy a couple tarts the next time to indulge in my favourite tarts - mostly the original and the salty boy (and the yet tried creme brulee). They also have seasonal special tarts (currently listed on their web site) they may offer in store. It's tempting to order all of them to try out, but alas, one can only order 6 at a time!

Yelp
I've already been here more than a couple of times. I love the variety of flavors for a simple egg tart. The place is small but very cute and I think they sell a lot bc their case barley has any tarts out but they're always baking them. Our fave is the crème brûlée and the espresso. The original is nice but the flavor is very eggy. I compare all egg tarts to Ranch 99 bc that's my fave. I also ordered the iced Tiramisu latte with coconut milk and it was ok. Very coffee forward and no sweetness at all even with the crème top. I will have to try other drinks. Service is nice and quick. Not sure but it seems family owned.

Yelp
The egg tarts were light and crispy, so delicious! I would definitely recommend this place for speciality egg tarts. I've never had egg tarts like this before and honestly happy they opened a shop in San Diego! We ordered the chocolate boba, taro, crème brûlée, espresso, original Portuguese and durian egg tart. The original and the durian were my favorite. The durian wasn't too strong and blended well with the creaminess of the egg tart. The crusts of each tart were light and crispy. There is plenty of parking in a shared lot of the store. The shop inside has minimal seating so it's more like a to go spot rather than a place to hang out. Service was great - the cashier was informative and gave her recommendations on the best tasting ones. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Delicious egg tarts! They were able to accommodate for our party an hour before closing! Will be coming back!

Yelp
Amazing service and amazing egg tarts! They have a lot of options to choose from and staff was super helpful
google avatar

Yelp
My group came right before close and they still had large selection to choose from. The egg tarts are sooo good and they do the brûlée tarts fresh when you order. We also tried the pineapple fizz! Definitely recommend!

Tiffany L.

Yelp
This was my favorite Chinese pastry growing up, and I'm so happy to see a whole bakery dedicated to the delicious egg tart! Na Tart does their tarts more similar to the Portuguese egg tart style, meaning a more flakey crust (as opposed to a denser crust) with a filling that is more custardy (rather than eggy). I love their modern twist on this pastry and all the contemporary flavors they offer. They offer all their tarts baked to order, so you'll get to experience the freshest pastry of your life. I loved their savory tarts (especially salty boy), which was the perfect salty-sweet combo. Their sweet tarts are also really tasty and the egg tart affogato is a must try! They also offer two types of pastry shell, regular and sunflower. The sunflower shell is more layered/crunchy, and I personally prefer their regular tart shell. The service is friendly and relatively quick (considering that they're constantly baking), and I would advice against visiting at the end of day as you'll probably have to wait a bit longer. The shop is small with no seating inside, so be prepared to snack outside at their limited seating or standing up. I will definitely be back to try all their flavors!
google avatar

Sylvia H.

Yelp
They have a lot of different flavors but the original, classic Portuguese egg tart was the favorite for me. We also liked some of the savory ones like salty boy and the corn and cheese one. Also tried the espresso, chocolate, and tiramisu ones. Chocolate was pretty good. Espresso wasn't strong. Tiramisu, we made the mistake of warming up the next day and the cream melted into a puddle. Whoops. Though there were a a decent amount of people on a Friday afternoon, the wait to order wasn't bad at all and we waited maybe about 10 minutes for our order. But looks like they have online ordering which is a huge plus. Unique place, fun to go to, and introduce to friends but I probably wouldn't come often unless the line was short and I just wanted to get an original.
google avatar

Kathy T.

Yelp
Checked out Na Tart on a weekend afternoon. There were a lot of people waiting outside to pick up their order. The selection was pretty bare when we got there at ~1pm but staff were actively making a lot more tarts. We placed an order for 6 tarts and were told it would be about a 15 min wait since one of the flavors we wanted was still coming out of the oven. Classic egg tart was superrr soft and flaky! The custard was not too sweet and very creamy. The chocolate tart is VERY chocolate so be prepared for decadent dark chocolate flavor. My favorite was the salty boy tart. So unique and since I love pork floss, this was perfect! I will say that this flavor profile is quite unique, but if you're willing to try it, I think it's worth it!!
google avatar

Richelle S.

Yelp
I've been here so many times already! My favorites are the salty boy, corn and cheese sunflower and the original egg tart. Their sweet egg tarts were not bad but I just prefer savory. The crust is super flaky and crispy while the fillings are super soft and flavorful. Parking wasn't too bad since there was a pretty decent sized lot. It's also super convenient that you're able to place an order online for pick up now! I'd definitely come back again.

Yelp
Na Tart is an egg tart specialty store based in Flushing, NY that has made its initial presence on the West Coast in San Diego. It's a rarity as the LA and SF markets have bigger customer bases to support such a business. This Clairemont location is on the ground level of a multi-story professional building with neighboring eateries on either side. You can park in the lot to the north of the building without having to infringe on the spaces belonging to the neighbors or ALDI. The official grand opening was on July 4th. I visited the week before this date during the soft opening period in which only the Original Portuguese Egg Tart was being offered. Pieces of this egg tart were set on the service counter as taste samples. Some menu photos depicted a dozen different flavors that are now all available. A promotional offer of buy six, get one free was my choice. The worker who staffed the service counter said it would be about 15 minutes before my order was ready. Unfortunately, the kitchen was slow despite only producing one kind of egg tart. It took close to 45 minutes before a box was handed to me inside a branded tote bag. The size of each tart was similar to what you find at a dim sum house. The differences were that the handmade crust was flakier and French butter with animal-based cream made the center of the tart more decadent. I haven't returned yet to try some of the unique flavors like durian and ube cheese. They are a bit pricey at $3.50 to $4.50 per tart. If the staff can optimize the baking process to ensure enough supply is available at all times during business hours, then I think Na Tart will succeed in the competitive local Asian dessert market.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Sunday night. The store interior is really small, with no tables inside or outside for guests to eat at. This is really a stop and go type of store. That being said, I ordered the 6 pc Portuguese egg tart combo and got the original, creme brulee, ube cheese, durian, espresso, and taro egg tart. Of the 6, I enjoyed the espresso egg tart the most. The crust is very flaky and soft and would recommend eating as soon as possible as it the crust becomes soggy quick. As this place only sells egg tarts and drinks, I would skip the original egg tart and go for all the unique egg tarts!

Yelp
I've had the original Portuguese egg tarts in Portugal and had to try these. We were 5th in line and it took 20 minutes to take our order and another 20 to receive our order on the second day of Grand Opening. They have 7 original flavors and 2 sunflower flavors. We got a box of 6 and I wanted one of each flavor but they didn't have salty boy or crème brûlée. So I doubled up on original. The sunflower edition has two flavors and it's not part of the 6 combo. You can get one or a pack of 4. It's just bigger. 6 pack: -Original x 2 - too eggy and thick -Espresso -the espresso over powered the custard but this is my fav -Taro - I scraped the top layer off -Ube cheese - I scraped top layer off -Chocolate boba - my fav, could taste the chocolate flavor blended w custard -Cheese and corn Sunflower x 2:overs this series, it's flaky, thin custard layer and more spread out, not so dense. The outer shell is extreme flaky but the flavors were not all there. They're not overly sweet. I could taste the bold flavor in espresso and chocolate boba. Tastes like flan. The taro and ube didn't cut it for me. It was mushy and pasty. The original was too eggy. It's smaller in size than I'm used to so it's thicker. I prefer the center to be thinner in height which the sunflower series represents. The wait was long when they had flavors ready on display and could have easily taken it from there. Perhaps when the hype dies down, it'll run smoothly and quicker.

Yelp
Finally we came here yesterday after a long discussion with my wife, she finally decided to get off the recliner, but there is a trade off, we have to go shopping. Before we went shopping we stop by here and ordered 6 different tart, so far the one that I ate were so good. I don't remember what we got but the chocolate one and the chicken were delicious. I'm not sure if I can pick the ones I want because the cashier/server pick the ones she gave me. When we got there they were restocking the empty pans. At least the selection was still good, the last two espresso tart was already being taken, good thing I can't have anything that is coffee because my stomach and coffee are disagreeing with each other or I'll be upset that we came here late. Nice little bakery/ pastry store.

Yelp
I saw this new place when I was shopping in the Aldi plaza and had to try it. It's a small shop with lots of different flavors of egg tarts to select from! The service was quick, I tried the creme brûlée and the taro tart. The creme brûlée was really good, I'd get it again. The taro tart seemed under baked like the pastry was doughy, I didn't want to finish it unfortunately. I'd probably give them another shot at some point, I hear they have cheesecake now too.

Yelp
Been seeing this place everywhere, and I love egg tarts, so I had to come try them out! The interior is small, but cute and modern. Not really any seating though except for a chair or two to wait for your order, so it's more of a grab and go place. CREME BRULEE & RED BEAN: I was most excited for this one but sadly it was a letdown. I wouldn't say it was bad, but the red bean flavor was nonexistent. I didn't even see any red bean filling while I was eating the tart so not sure if they just forgot it? Otherwise it pretty much just tasted like a regular portugese egg tart with some mild creme brulee flavor. TARO SALTED EGG YOLK: Was excited about this one but the taro and salted egg yolk flavors were both super light in my opinion, just wish they were a little stronger. UBE CHEESE: Such a pretty tart with the contrast between the deep purple of the ube, and the gold flakes. The ube flavor was very light though and I wish it was stronger. CHEESE & CORN SAVORY: My favorite of the bunch I tried, but I've always preferred savory to sweet so I might be biased...and I also just love corn in general. Still had a good, mild balance of sweetness though from the corn. I didn't get to try all their flavors since they were out of some when I went, and also I can only eat so many egg tarts. I need to go back to try their Salty Boy and Original flavors for sure! Overall, great spot to try some special flavors of egg tarts. I do wish some of their flavors were a bit stronger though, and not sure why their creme brulee red bean had no red bean flavor. They're still relatively new though so plenty of time to work things out. Cute packaging too, perfect for gifting!

Yelp
I think because I came in on a random day, the wait wasn't too bad. Note that there is not really any seating, just a few chairs outside and I believe like a couple inside. What I got: (total spent $9.45) - Cheese and Corn Savory Sunflower: This one had a touch of sweetness and a garlicky flavor which worked well. The pastry shell was flaky and light. - Chocolate Bobo: I expected this one to be super sweet, but it's one of those, "it's good, it's not too sweet" kind of desserts. I love the added crunch from the little chocolate pearls. Both tarts were really filling, but didn't leave me feeling uncomfortable. I would go back to try out their other flavors. At first I dreaded the parking situation, come to realize they have a whole back section of parking lol.

Yelp
So yummy -- Can't wait to try all the flavors! Located inside a plaza with a parking lot and wasn't too busy when we stopped by (around 2:45pm), though there was about a 15 min wait to get all the flavors we wanted.

Yelp
The egg tarts were good, I appreciate the different flavors and options. My favorite was the OG Portuguese egg tart, but the Salty Boy was a runner up (if you're a fan of dried pork floss). The crust was made well and was flakey. The creme brulee torching could use a bit more work though. Food aside, the service wasn't the best. My friend went to go pick up some tarts for us and was planning to order online since we had a large order (around 20 egg tarts). But the online ordering system was closed, so the only choice she had was to walk in. She showed up after a few hours of opening and was given attitude by the worker about not placing an online order... when she told them it wasn't an option, she wasn't given any reasoning behind it besides a glare. The tarts were rushed and just overall not a welcoming experience for her. So unless you're only going to order 1-6 egg tarts, you might have to call ahead of time to warn them of a large order (if they even answer).

Yelp
First time trying Na Tart and we loved it! Top 3 - Creme Brulee, Salty Boy, and Chocolate Boba. The classic egg tart is always good! Love that they offer elevated and delicious flavors. The worker who helped us was so kind and helped us figure out what flavors to get. We'll be coming back for sure!

Yelp
Egg tarts or something I discovered in the last few years and I absolutely love them. I saw on Yelp a few days ago that this new store had opened and told my co-worker. We decided to stop in during lunch and try these egg tarts. I will say it was around 11:30 in the middle of the week and I was surprised that there was little parking and we had to park on the other side of Aldi. When we walked in there was a line outside and inside but probably only one person ahead of us to order. There were only four types of egg charts available. There was the original Portuguese egg tart, the Ube, the taro, and the espresso. I went ahead and ordered two original one for myself and someone else and then an ube. After waiting about 15 minutes I went and asked the status of my order because I purposefully ordered only items that were available. Everyone else had a wait of about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the type that were still in the oven. The gentleman working at the counter said he would grab mine and then I was ready to go. Unfortunately people that had ordered way before me had still been waiting so even though they were quoting about a 15 to 20 minute wait, the wait seemed more like half an hour. The original egg tart was very good and I would definitely order it again but I really enjoyed the ube. I think the prices are fair and the tarts are very tasty. I can't wait to try more flavors; however I think I will wait until they can get the opening kinks worked out and hopefully lessen the wait time. I will say they ring up my coworker for an incorrect type she didn't order and the person who took the order did not understand what the issue was and was having a very hard time understanding people ordering. I think they need to make sure the person working the register understands what the customers are saying or they need more training.
