10 Chicago Starters That Are The Main Event - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Whenever we visit one of the Chiu Quon bakeries in Chinatown or Uptown, we always start with their egg tarts. Specifically the Portuguese version, which has a rich, creamy filling, a carmelized top, and a delightfully flaky crust. Don’t order just one. You’re better than that." - veda kilaru, john ringor, nick allen, veda kilaru, veda kilaru, john ringor, nick allen, john ringor, veda kilaru, veda kilaru, john ringor, john ringor, nick allen

These egg tarts are absolutely delicious! The outer crust is super crispy and flakes perfectly with every bite, while the filling is incredibly soft and creamy. I love the rich, milky flavor—it’s sweet but not overly sweet, which makes it just right. I’m already a big fan and can’t wait to try other flavors! Hopefully, there will be more options to explore. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
A must visit dot for egg try lovers! The crust incredibly crispy and flaky and you can hear the crunch with every bite me the custard is smooth and banged in sweetness. I love the classic flavors the most but honestly everything I tried are amazing!

NaTart is a hidden gem! Their Portuguese egg tarts are incredibly flaky, creamy, and fresh out of the oven. You can really taste the quality ingredients. The shop is cozy and staff are super friendly. Definitely a must-try if you’re in San Diego. I’ll be coming back for more!

Absolutely loved this egg tart shop! The crust is perfectly flaky and crisp, and the filling is silky smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. Each bite melts in your mouth — pure happiness! The staff are super friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Whether you’re treating yourself or picking up a gift, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

Google
These egg tarts were insanely good! They were nice and warm and the crust was so flaky. Two of us bought four flavors to share, and although we were a little full from lunch, we gobbled them all up immediately. They were all amazing! And they had just opened less than a week ago when we went so there was not much of a wait.

I visited Na Tart on July 4th for their grand opening—and regrettably, it took me a full three hours from stepping in line to finally receiving my tarts. The ordering process was utter chaos: unclear, disorganized lines with minimal signage and staff that seemed overwhelmed. By the time I got my order, the custard was far too egg-forward—more like a Taiwanese egg tart or even a mini quiche—rather than the light, balanced pastel de nata you’d expect from Lisbon or spots like Holy Nata in San Francisco. Here’s hoping they streamline their service flow and dial back the custard intensity soon; at three hours invested, I’d wait for those fixes before returning.

Google
Flavor is solid and texture is soft and creamy. Definitely some fun flavors, but tbh I can’t justify regularly buying these tarts at this price point. I think I get the same amount of satisfaction from a Chinese dimsum restaurant (but in SD there’s not many options) so it’s still unique! Unfortunately they sell out so quickly! Probably because they are new, people in front of you will clear out a whole tray of specialty flavor.

Google
We were excited to hear about the new egg tart shop in San Diego. We stopped in at Na Tart for the original Portuguese egg tarts and also tried the creme brûlée egg tarts. These egg tarts were sold out when we got there so we waited 20 minutes for the freshly baked egg tarts. The original Portuguese egg tart was spot on, hand-made, super flaky and crispy puff pastry with a delightful, light and savory, silky egg custard filing and French butter to enhance the flavor and texture. The creme brûlée egg tart was a disappointment as the torching needed more work and the creme brûlée flavor was definitely MIA. The creme brûlée topping was oozing out of the tart and made the pastry shell soggy, not good visually. Na Tart is new to the San Diego Asian scene and is trying to work through some growing pains like the workflow and tart presentation. It’s a small shop with no seating inside. There are 2 self service kiosks to place orders. There are varieties of tarts to choose from. Tarts are a bit pricey averaging $3.50 - $4.75 each but you can get small price break if you get the combo & set (example: 6 piece original Portuguese egg tart set for $20 and 1 piece is set for $3.50). They also serve beverages from Espresso to Mocha and even egg tart Affogato which consists of layers of flaky signature egg tart crumble, vanilla ice cream and expresso in one cup. We will probably not going to visit again in the near future but open to future visit again once they smooth out their growing phrase, tart presentation and perhaps improve price point so they can compete with the nearby Asian shops.

Yelp
Best tart in San Diego! My favorite is original and chocolate and salty pork son (salty boy?) recently has been very busy and need to come early to get all the flavors

Yelp
Salt boy is tasty. So good . Also they have interesting games for rewards. I enjoy the service and food a lot! Highly recommended.

Yelp
Smells Delicious! So glad to visit and try the tarts. Ordered 6 pack to try them all. It's was not too busy at 6pm to visit.

Yelp
The egg tarts were light and crispy, so delicious! I would definitely recommend this place for speciality egg tarts. I've never had egg tarts like this before and honestly happy they opened a shop in San Diego! We ordered the chocolate boba, taro, crème brûlée, espresso, original Portuguese and durian egg tart. The original and the durian were my favorite. The durian wasn't too strong and blended well with the creaminess of the egg tart. The crusts of each tart were light and crispy. There is plenty of parking in a shared lot of the store. The shop inside has minimal seating so it's more like a to go spot rather than a place to hang out. Service was great - the cashier was informative and gave her recommendations on the best tasting ones. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
They have a lot of different flavors but the original, classic Portuguese egg tart was the favorite for me. We also liked some of the savory ones like salty boy and the corn and cheese one. Also tried the espresso, chocolate, and tiramisu ones. Chocolate was pretty good. Espresso wasn't strong. Tiramisu, we made the mistake of warming up the next day and the cream melted into a puddle. Whoops. Though there were a a decent amount of people on a Friday afternoon, the wait to order wasn't bad at all and we waited maybe about 10 minutes for our order. But looks like they have online ordering which is a huge plus. Unique place, fun to go to, and introduce to friends but I probably wouldn't come often unless the line was short and I just wanted to get an original.

Yelp
Checked out Na Tart on a weekend afternoon. There were a lot of people waiting outside to pick up their order. The selection was pretty bare when we got there at ~1pm but staff were actively making a lot more tarts. We placed an order for 6 tarts and were told it would be about a 15 min wait since one of the flavors we wanted was still coming out of the oven. Classic egg tart was superrr soft and flaky! The custard was not too sweet and very creamy. The chocolate tart is VERY chocolate so be prepared for decadent dark chocolate flavor. My favorite was the salty boy tart. So unique and since I love pork floss, this was perfect! I will say that this flavor profile is quite unique, but if you're willing to try it, I think it's worth it!!

Yelp
This was my favorite Chinese pastry growing up, and I'm so happy to see a whole bakery dedicated to the delicious egg tart! Na Tart does their tarts more similar to the Portuguese egg tart style, meaning a more flakey crust (as opposed to a denser crust) with a filling that is more custardy (rather than eggy). I love their modern twist on this pastry and all the contemporary flavors they offer. They offer all their tarts baked to order, so you'll get to experience the freshest pastry of your life. I loved their savory tarts (especially salty boy), which was the perfect salty-sweet combo. Their sweet tarts are also really tasty and the egg tart affogato is a must try! They also offer two types of pastry shell, regular and sunflower. The sunflower shell is more layered/crunchy, and I personally prefer their regular tart shell. The service is friendly and relatively quick (considering that they're constantly baking), and I would advice against visiting at the end of day as you'll probably have to wait a bit longer. The shop is small with no seating inside, so be prepared to snack outside at their limited seating or standing up. I will definitely be back to try all their flavors!
google avatar

Richelle S.

Yelp
I've been here so many times already! My favorites are the salty boy, corn and cheese sunflower and the original egg tart. Their sweet egg tarts were not bad but I just prefer savory. The crust is super flaky and crispy while the fillings are super soft and flavorful. Parking wasn't too bad since there was a pretty decent sized lot. It's also super convenient that you're able to place an order online for pick up now! I'd definitely come back again.
google avatar

Yelp
I returned to na tart for a variety 6-pack. Service is attentive and cashier kindly helped me pick my 6 flavors. Salty boy is my favorite! Not only is pork floss topping really yummy but the mochi in the tart makes it next level. I picked up a combo today as a celebratory gift for a friend. Glad to see Na Tart has been open later with good business and has all the flavors.

Yelp
These tarts are tasty! We were helped immediately and didn't have to wait for our food. There's some seating outside and a little photo op inside. The matcha was tasty too!

Yelp
Na Tart is an egg tart specialty store based in Flushing, NY that has made its initial presence on the West Coast in San Diego. It's a rarity as the LA and SF markets have bigger customer bases to support such a business. This Clairemont location is on the ground level of a multi-story professional building with neighboring eateries on either side. You can park in the lot to the north of the building without having to infringe on the spaces belonging to the neighbors or ALDI. The official grand opening was on July 4th. I visited the week before this date during the soft opening period in which only the Original Portuguese Egg Tart was being offered. Pieces of this egg tart were set on the service counter as taste samples. Some menu photos depicted a dozen different flavors that are now all available. A promotional offer of buy six, get one free was my choice. The worker who staffed the service counter said it would be about 15 minutes before my order was ready. Unfortunately, the kitchen was slow despite only producing one kind of egg tart. It took close to 45 minutes before a box was handed to me inside a branded tote bag. The size of each tart was similar to what you find at a dim sum house. The differences were that the handmade crust was flakier and French butter with animal-based cream made the center of the tart more decadent. I haven't returned yet to try some of the unique flavors like durian and ube cheese. They are a bit pricey at $3.50 to $4.50 per tart. If the staff can optimize the baking process to ensure enough supply is available at all times during business hours, then I think Na Tart will succeed in the competitive local Asian dessert market.

Yelp
I've had the original Portuguese egg tarts in Portugal and had to try these. We were 5th in line and it took 20 minutes to take our order and another 20 to receive our order on the second day of Grand Opening. They have 7 original flavors and 2 sunflower flavors. We got a box of 6 and I wanted one of each flavor but they didn't have salty boy or crème brûlée. So I doubled up on original. The sunflower edition has two flavors and it's not part of the 6 combo. You can get one or a pack of 4. It's just bigger. 6 pack: -Original x 2 - too eggy and thick -Espresso -the espresso over powered the custard but this is my fav -Taro - I scraped the top layer off -Ube cheese - I scraped top layer off -Chocolate boba - my fav, could taste the chocolate flavor blended w custard -Cheese and corn Sunflower x 2:overs this series, it's flaky, thin custard layer and more spread out, not so dense. The outer shell is extreme flaky but the flavors were not all there. They're not overly sweet. I could taste the bold flavor in espresso and chocolate boba. Tastes like flan. The taro and ube didn't cut it for me. It was mushy and pasty. The original was too eggy. It's smaller in size than I'm used to so it's thicker. I prefer the center to be thinner in height which the sunflower series represents. The wait was long when they had flavors ready on display and could have easily taken it from there. Perhaps when the hype dies down, it'll run smoothly and quicker.

Yelp
Been seeing this place everywhere, and I love egg tarts, so I had to come try them out! The interior is small, but cute and modern. Not really any seating though except for a chair or two to wait for your order, so it's more of a grab and go place. CREME BRULEE & RED BEAN: I was most excited for this one but sadly it was a letdown. I wouldn't say it was bad, but the red bean flavor was nonexistent. I didn't even see any red bean filling while I was eating the tart so not sure if they just forgot it? Otherwise it pretty much just tasted like a regular portugese egg tart with some mild creme brulee flavor. TARO SALTED EGG YOLK: Was excited about this one but the taro and salted egg yolk flavors were both super light in my opinion, just wish they were a little stronger. UBE CHEESE: Such a pretty tart with the contrast between the deep purple of the ube, and the gold flakes. The ube flavor was very light though and I wish it was stronger. CHEESE & CORN SAVORY: My favorite of the bunch I tried, but I've always preferred savory to sweet so I might be biased...and I also just love corn in general. Still had a good, mild balance of sweetness though from the corn. I didn't get to try all their flavors since they were out of some when I went, and also I can only eat so many egg tarts. I need to go back to try their Salty Boy and Original flavors for sure! Overall, great spot to try some special flavors of egg tarts. I do wish some of their flavors were a bit stronger though, and not sure why their creme brulee red bean had no red bean flavor. They're still relatively new though so plenty of time to work things out. Cute packaging too, perfect for gifting!

Yelp
the original egg tart is the best one to get. The flavored ones are fun to try, but I find myself going back to that original one every time. One egg tart is enough maybe split one. It's s very rich egg tart so not something I would get often, but over all it was good. The line goes by fast and you can see all the tarts behind the glass.
google avatar

Erika T.

Yelp
The egg tarts were good, I appreciate the different flavors and options. My favorite was the OG Portuguese egg tart, but the Salty Boy was a runner up (if you're a fan of dried pork floss). The crust was made well and was flakey. The creme brulee torching could use a bit more work though. Food aside, the service wasn't the best. My friend went to go pick up some tarts for us and was planning to order online since we had a large order (around 20 egg tarts). But the online ordering system was closed, so the only choice she had was to walk in. She showed up after a few hours of opening and was given attitude by the worker about not placing an online order... when she told them it wasn't an option, she wasn't given any reasoning behind it besides a glare. The tarts were rushed and just overall not a welcoming experience for her. So unless you're only going to order 1-6 egg tarts, you might have to call ahead of time to warn them of a large order (if they even answer).
google avatar

Nolita N.

Yelp
I think because I came in on a random day, the wait wasn't too bad. Note that there is not really any seating, just a few chairs outside and I believe like a couple inside. What I got: (total spent $9.45) - Cheese and Corn Savory Sunflower: This one had a touch of sweetness and a garlicky flavor which worked well. The pastry shell was flaky and light. - Chocolate Bobo: I expected this one to be super sweet, but it's one of those, "it's good, it's not too sweet" kind of desserts. I love the added crunch from the little chocolate pearls. Both tarts were really filling, but didn't leave me feeling uncomfortable. I would go back to try out their other flavors. At first I dreaded the parking situation, come to realize they have a whole back section of parking lol.
google avatar

Shannon Z.

Yelp
HOLY these egg tarts are amazing! I love how innovative they made the original egg tart by having so many flavors. The egg tarts themselves were crispy, flaky, and had a generous custard layer that was sooo delicious. Our favorite was the crème brûlée egg tart which was sweet and creamy. I also really loved the espresso egg tart. Although the pork floss one was unique, I didn't love the blend of salty and sweet. Even though we came on a Friday evening, they still had all the flavors available (you just have to ask even if you don't see it in the counter).
google avatar

Esien N.

Yelp
Came here after my friend recommended it. There was no line and we got the mix and match 6 egg tarts. We chose the crème brûlée, original, salty boy, chocolate, taro, and espresso. My favorites were the crème brûlée, original, and salty boy. The espresso and chocolate were lacking in flavor and I personally don't like taro. The shell was really buttery and flaky. I would come back for the crème brûlée and original. It was a bit pricey...~$23 for the box.
google avatar

Alice Y.

Yelp
I love Chinese egg tarts and was excited to come across this new spot! Tried their taro egg tart, which had a lighter taro flavor, and the salty boy. I was surprised how much I like the salty boy because it seemed a bit unconventional, but it made me feel nostalgic of my childhood rou song (pork floss) in congee. The egg inside the tarts does seem a little bit runnier than I'm used to, but the pastry was nice and flaky, and we got the salty boy fresh out of the oven. Service was nice. There isn't any seating inside, but there are a few chairs outside and they're currently doing a ring toss challenge for free egg tart giveaways.
google avatar

Natalie C.

Yelp
Delicious egg tarts with unique flavors. We came on a weekday around 4pm - an hour before close and expected just a handful of tarts left and it turns out they had their whole menu available! We got the 20 pack and really loved the original the best. The salty boy was a close second. Both weee flavorful and fresh. The crème brûlée one was overly sweet and the espresso was a too bitter for us. We'd just stick to original. Wait time was about 15 min for fresh tarts- I wish they would have warned us. We probably would have still waited but good to set expectations up front
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
Egg tarts or something I discovered in the last few years and I absolutely love them. I saw on Yelp a few days ago that this new store had opened and told my co-worker. We decided to stop in during lunch and try these egg tarts. I will say it was around 11:30 in the middle of the week and I was surprised that there was little parking and we had to park on the other side of Aldi. When we walked in there was a line outside and inside but probably only one person ahead of us to order. There were only four types of egg charts available. There was the original Portuguese egg tart, the Ube, the taro, and the espresso. I went ahead and ordered two original one for myself and someone else and then an ube. After waiting about 15 minutes I went and asked the status of my order because I purposefully ordered only items that were available. Everyone else had a wait of about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the type that were still in the oven. The gentleman working at the counter said he would grab mine and then I was ready to go. Unfortunately people that had ordered way before me had still been waiting so even though they were quoting about a 15 to 20 minute wait, the wait seemed more like half an hour. The original egg tart was very good and I would definitely order it again but I really enjoyed the ube. I think the prices are fair and the tarts are very tasty. I can't wait to try more flavors; however I think I will wait until they can get the opening kinks worked out and hopefully lessen the wait time. I will say they ring up my coworker for an incorrect type she didn't order and the person who took the order did not understand what the issue was and was having a very hard time understanding people ordering. I think they need to make sure the person working the register understands what the customers are saying or they need more training.
google avatar

Candace C.

Yelp
3.5 stars. Original egg tart was pretty good, custard was soft and creamy. Ube was pretty to look at but didn't have any ube flavor in my opinion. I came 3 hours before closing weekday and they were sold out of all the savor ones. Service was friendly but you could tell workers have been working very hard and were tired. It was very busy for a weekday afternoon. Parking is easy in the lot, small store inside but cute decor. A lot of people ordered the 6 tart combo.
google avatar

David Z.

Yelp
Came here before their soft opening. You can park in the lot outside. Service was very quick and friendly. They only had their egg tarts that day, but it was delicious. The inside is small with no tables, so you are expected to get it to go. Would come back to try their other flavors.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
A brand new dessert spot in San Diego!? Sign me up! It was busy when I went and for all the right reasons! These tarts are delicious. They offer a variety of flavors and I got a pack of 6 for $23. I'll definitely come back to try more flavors. The savory ones sound very interesting.
google avatar

Eunice H.

Yelp
Such a cute place to fulfill your tart cravings! They have both sweet and salty tarts and have flavors including crème brûlée, ube, taro, chocolate, tiramisu, original, matcha, etc. You can order by the piece or in boxes of 4 or 6 or more. We ordered the salty boy and the ube tart. The salty boy had lots of umami notes and was savory and buttery and flaky. The ube had the perfect level of sweetness, and the custard in the middle was beautiful. If you're lucky, some of these tarts come fresh out of the oven! Plenty of cute photo ops in the store! Prices range from $3.50-4.50 per tart and they also offer a whole drink menu! They have designated free parking outside their store.
google avatar

Lien P.

Yelp
If you come towards closing time be prepared to wait a little if you're getting flavors that have run out! They are making it to order. We got the taro egg tart and waited 30 minutes. The egg tart is really good and I would definitely come back to get more for my family to try! There are no tables and is an order and go type of deal.

Yelp
3.5/5 Overview: Really cool concept of different egg tarts, not that great of an execution yet ---- The only one that really stood out to me was the Salty Boy Tart ($4.50), that was the best one I tasted. At 11am, they didn't have any of the crème brûlée egg tarts or durian egg tarts. They have combo sets and I got their 6 piece combo set for $23. ---- Original Portuguese Egg Tart ($3.50) - 3/5 - not as sweet as I would like it - the ones you can buy at Costco tasted better in my opinion Ube Cheese Tart ($3.95) - 3/5 - Ube flavor was too subtle, couldn't taste it - mozzarella cheese I think was on the top? (I couldn't taste it but it had the chewy texture of the crispy-ish cheese on top) - the scented osmanthus was unique and I enjoyed that part Espresso Tart ($3.95) - 3/5 - a bit too bitter for me - not as sweet as I'd like it - strong coffee flavor Chocolate Boba Tart ($3.95) - 3.5 /5 - I enjoyed the dark chocolate crispearls topping - the best thing about this was the crunch of the topping - it was a good chocolate flavor and unique but not really my favorite as an egg tart Taro Egg Tart ($4.50) - 3.5/5 - sadly didn't taste any salted egg yolk - mochi filling inside the egg custard - mashed taro on top tasted fresh and not like the powder Salty Boy Tart ($4.50) - 5/5 - my favorite one out of all of them - super savory and delicious - the pork floss, seaweed, and mayo sauce - mochi filling - MUST TRY ---- Service: - quite chaotic and disorganized, understandable as they are just opening and starting out - not super efficient after ordering, long wait - the workers didn't seem that well trained but again as expected bc they are just starting out Ambiance: - the inside is pretty small and cute decor - you can see them assemble the tarts in the back - cute custard cutout where you can put your face through and take a pic - they have drinks and combo packs as well ---- Overall: I would come back only for the salty boy, the packs are worth if you'd want to try out the different flavors, I'm sad they didn't have durian or the crème brûlée tarts, hopefully as they get the hang of it everything will improve. I'm rooting for you guys!

Yelp
I went to Na Tart for their grand opening on 4th of July. The first 50 people get a free egg tart so there was a line going. They said they would have all the flavors available but when we ordered the creme brûlée flavor, they said they didn't have it. So I ordered chocolate, original, taro, and espresso. Then we were told we have to wait 20 mins. We ended up waiting over an hour. A lot of customers were unhappy with the wait time including myself. It seems that they didn't put a lot of thought into the logistics of having a grand opening given that there about 80 people total in line. There were a lot of egg tarts sitting in the display so I'm not sure why they were not filling orders and letting it sit. The egg tart itself filling was sweet and the exterior was flaky. The espresso flavor dominated and you won't taste any egg tart there the taro flavor was just on the top so it's just spilled out so that was a bummer. The chocolate was ok. We would have waited longer but we kept checking and they pulled our order ahead.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
I came to their Soft opening and tried their Portuguese Egg Tart. So far, that's the only item they were selling when I came. The lady at the counter says their other flavored egg tart will be available at their Grand Opening on July 4th. The Egg tart has a nice crisp and the filling is smooth and not overly sweet, I can't wait for their grand opening to try more of the Flavor of their Egg tart. Staff are friendly. There's a lot of parking around.

Yelp
Brand new egg tart spot and I have high hopes for this place in the future. Went on a Sunday afternoon so maybe it was also due to it being towards the end of the day, but a lot of the options were out and we saw a lot of small errors with the staff. The worker taking orders didn't seem to know what was still available, orders being given out to the wrong people, etc. The shop is also small and quickly got cramped with the line which made it hard to look around. However, the tarts themselves were great! Tried the ube cheese egg tart, the espresso tart, and the chocolate boba tart. Chocolate was my favorite but honestly each one was good. Will be back eventually and wishing them all the luck in getting their operations figured out.
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
Na tart is located in the same parking lot as Aldi they have a few dedicated parking stalls in front but you can also park in the other parking spaces that are shared with the other businesses. There is no seating so it's all take out. I got a 6 pack of the original Portuguese tarts ($20) it came in a custom box which held them nicely. The crust was crispy and flakey. The filling was nicely charred, very smooth and slightly sweet. Overall they were very tasty but I wish they were a little more eggy. Service was friendly, there are other flavors that will be available after the soft opening which I'll come back and try. (Ube cheese and espresso) They also have an espresso machine so you can have a coffee drink to go with your tart too.

Vanessa T.

Yelp
This place is so cute! I went at 11am on a Sunday and there was no line, but they were limited on the original Portuguese egg tart since they were probably busy earlier! Staff were so helpful and friendly. I got 6 of the smaller tarts for $23! The Portuguese egg tart was so creamy and good. They are very rich so it's good to share with friends.

Yelp
So excited that Na Tart is finally open! Their soft opening started today June 28th. The shop is tiny but mighty with a good amount of parking. Definitely a to go place as there is no seating inside. There are 2 self service kiosks to place your order. For their soft opening they are only serving their Portuguese egg tarts. I ordered 2 and they came out pretty quick. The service here is great! They were slightly warm and absolutely delicious with a nice flaky crust. The egg tarts were the perfect amount of sweetness and not overcooked. I am looking forward to coming back and trying their other delicious flavors.
google avatar

Anna N.

Yelp
Saw this place popping up on IG & I had to go check it out. Came here on a Sunday morning about 5 mins before opening. There was plenty of parking and no line, which was perfect. The shop is small and clean. We decided to order the 12 pcs tart combo, which is $46. We really wanted to try everything. The egg tarts are made fresh to order. The staff were friendly & ordering was quick. Once we got the egg tarts, I tried the signature one right away. It was tasty & the crust was so buttery and flaky. I like that it's not too sweet. I'd definitely come back here for egg tarts!

Yelp
These are beautiful "dan-tarts". Heard about this pastry shop online and had to try it out. The egg tarts have buttery flakey crusts and a beautiful silky egg custard. They have a variety of flavors like crème brûlée, espresso, ube, one that's called salty boy which has a pork floss (yook sung) and seaweed topping. Think bacon maple donut - the salty umami with the sweet. Delicious. My daughter also ordered an afogado which had just a drop of the espresso pour over it. So it was like a little syrup topping. Honestly I watched him make it and I think he should have poured that whole small cup of espresso into the cup, I guess it was served more like a sundae rather than a coffee drink. It was expensive here. Basically each bite is about a dollar a bite-- if you're not taking too big a bite! But it's a delicious one, and I will say that they did not ask for an automatic tip which is a big plus these days. There are no tables. This is just a pastry and coffee shop where you pick out your order and they box them up and you go. Definitely worth a try!!

Yelp
Oh man, San Diego was in desperate need for a place like this. The tarts are so good! Flaky, buttery and NOT TOO SWEET. Ordered the original, ube, taro, espresso (this was just ok), matcha flower (just ok too). Yes, they are on the pricey side but for a good reason, you can taste the quality. We happened to get some when they were warm and fresh, it really blew my mind. I'm excited to come back next time to try their other flavors and drinks. Service is straightforward and standard, nothing to write home about. The venue itself is small but decorated well, plenty of photo op spots. I went on a Saturday afternoon and there weren't too many people. I can foresee parking being a challenge here.

Yelp
Employees are very nice and have quick service! There's a small, fun activity you can do while waiting. There's a lot of different egg tarts to choose from! They have both savory and sweet. Would definitely come again to try more

Yelp
BIG WOWZA! I just love unique restaurants, and this is certainly one of them. Huge Variety of Tarts, especially the various Egg Tarts. ($4.50 ea) Friendly Staff all around, great parking, super clean and fresh. Happy to return. For me, this is a "to-go" kind of place. Take them home (heat them), and eat them later.

Yelp
Egg tarts finally make their way to San Diego! Definitely a good change from "big dim sum" tarts, which let's be real, have been on the down trend the last couple years. Crispy and flakey edges with a mild sweet center. It's easy to eat 3 or 4! Haven't tried the drinks yet, but they look legit!

Yelp
Cool twist on Chinese egg tarts! I tried the ube flavor and salty boy. The tart was crispy and flavorful. The egg texture was a little softer than expected but the taste was really good! The pork sung surprisingly complimented the egg well too. Service was seamless and quick even as the line grew. There's seating on the outside and the store decor is super cute. I would definitely come back and try more of their flavors!

Yelp
Very exciting to see such a creative addition of egg heart tart in San Diego. This is a small bakery located next to Aldi's in Claremont Mesa and I made a quick stop to buy a few snacks to try after lunch. Although small, the place looks great and parking was easy to find. They have several options for you to choose from and the staff were really nice. The egg tarts were also delicious. I can't wait to come back to try more flavors.

Yelp
A new Taiwanese/Portiguese egg tart bakery just opened near me off Balboa Ave and Genesee Ave near an Aldi store and next to a Pho Hut & Grill restaurant. I think this use to be a shoe repair shop and now it's home to yummy egg tart pastries. This is as good it gets when it comes to home made tarts besides maybe Chinatown in SF. We went with of course the original Portuguese egg tarts and they were flaky and delicious! We also tried other flavors like the chocolate bobo tart, espresso tart, taro tart, and the creme brûlée tart. But my favorite is still the OG Portuguese tart. We also tried the cheese & corn sunflower tart and that was also very good. It's savory and a little sweet. It has mozzarella melted with sweet corn inside on a buttery crust. It's a little thicker than the regular tarts but it's so crunchy! Having two of those are perfect snacks to crave your hunger. Their service is quick and they box everything up for you. It's a small shop so you're in and out in no time. I can't wait to go back and try some more!

Yelp
Been hearing all the hype about this place from social media. This place is great, they specialize in egg tarts & have unique flavors. We tried the creme brûlée, chocolate bobo, Ube cheese, & taro salted egg. Everything was delicious, our favorite was definitely the creme brûlée. It was nice & creamy. Overall, this is a great spot to grab dessert!

Yelp
We had Original, Espresso and Chocolate tarts Two coffees Parking is tough and there is no disabled spot or any spot at all in front of the store. You're competing with a grocery store and a couple restaurants. Is it good? Yes. You would have to toast it slightly to get the crispy texture. Microwaving it makes it soggy and greasy. It's not good eaten at room temperature. We came around 2:00 p.m. Most of the flavors were sold out and whatever we got was not really that fresh from the oven. End of the day, it's pricey so we will stick with the Chinese restaurants on Convoy because you can taste the light, airy and layered textured of the tarts even if you don't reheat them.

Yelp
Delicious custard mini tarts. The traditional one was by far best I've had. The crust was sooo buttery, and it was still slightly warm. I also tried the durian filling because I've never tasted durian. It was pretty good, but the durian had an odor that was a little off putting. The crust in it was just as good as the other flavor. They have quite a few different flavors--I'll be back.

Yelp
I went by a few minutes after they opened and the line was long. But it was worth the wait. Small shop but they work fast. Good customer service. I tried the popular cheese and corn savory sunflower tart and the original Portuguese egg tart. Both were delicious, flaky and the filling was smooth.

Yelp
These tarts are delicious! Tried 6 different flavors with my friends so that we could try them all, and were more than satisfied. My favorites were the crème brûlée with red bean egg tart and the original portuguese egg tart. The staff were kind and service was quick. The inside of the cafe is very pleasant, although it's a buy and take out type of place, no seats to sit and eat there. Definitely swing by if you're an egg tart fan!

Yelp
San Diego finally has a Portuguese egg tart spot -- very long overdue! Located in a plaza next to an Aldi, there's plentiful parking. They have so many different varieties including a savory one! Buying more saves you a bit with the 6 box combo running for $23. The tarts are constantly being baked so come out steaming hot. I really like the salty boy which has pork floss, milky mochi and furikake. I also enjoyed the taro salted egg which has the perfect sweet n savory combo. They do something very interesting, matching each flavor with an MBTI. Although I am an ESTJ (cheese and corn), I liked the ISTP (salty boy) a lot more!

Yelp
Perfectly crispy and flaky- there's sometimes a bit of a wait but totally worth it! Fresh and flavorful- my favorites are the original and the espresso. They're a little pricey, but good for a "treat yourself" day. The store itself is small so it can get crowded when busy, but very cute!
