"$30.78. That’s how much a burger with fries and a Coke costs after tax and tip at Not A Damn Chance Burger (or NADC, if you’re short on breath). If that number doesn’t make you blink, then you can rest comfortably knowing that you’ll get a pretty good—if very salty—smashburger at this small East 6th joint. It comes as a double by default, made with wagyu beef, american cheese, grilled onions, pickles jalapeños, and enough “secret sauce” to guarantee the bun gives up and goes soggy about halfway through. But the patties have a great crust, and they’re juicy throughout. This is the type of burger that might knock you out for your 2pm Zoom call, but it’s perfect for soaking up a few drinks after a night of barhopping on the East Side. Despite its tiny footprint, this is actually the flagship location of a fast-growing mini-chain with outposts in Austin, Dallas, Chicago, Denver, and probably half a dozen more cities by the time you finish reading this sentence. NADC is a solid burger that won’t disappoint on quality alone, but you’ll find similar meals at Patty Palace or Golden Tiger for less money. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary
"NADC’s burger is made with wagyu beef and served on a Martin’s potato roll with american cheese, pickles, jalapeños, and some tangy secret sauce—essentially all the smashburger buzzwords jammed into a small $16 burger, without fries. It’s saucy enough that the bun will probably collapse into a soggy mess about midway through, and it’s a little too salty, but the patties have a great crust and are juicy throughout. This is the kind of burger that’s best enjoyed after one too many beers—thankfully, NADC is open very late. Otherwise, there are plenty of burgers in Austin that offer more for a lot less. Your Order: NADC Burger ($16). Ask for extra napkins." - nicolai mccrary
"Ah yes, the burger that’s responsible for Au Cheval’s three-hour waits, and the first thing Hot Take Harry can’t wait to tell you is overrated. It’s not. It’s a consistently excellent combination of griddled smash patties, dijonnaise, a squishy bun, and shouldn’t-be-optional egg and thick-cut bacon. There's an impossible amount of hype surrounding it, but that’s not the burger’s fault." - nick allen, john ringor, adrian kane
"Called out as one of several cool new spots in East Austin, part of the neighborhood’s influx of fresh, noteworthy places this year." - Erin Russell
"A wagyu smash-burger concept that transitioned from a Rainey Street stand to a brick-and-mortar spot, serving smash-style wagyu burgers, fries, and a selection of drinks in a casual walk-up format." - Nadia Chaudhury
